Super interesting experience when a show is playing. It feels like you tare in ancient Greece, super nice. There are spectacles all the time there, info available at info point outside. Really hot in summer but worth the money and the sweat. Not the best sound for orchestras and operas and stuff but the experience is wort it

Beautiful amphitheater that is still in use today! Unfortunately none of the shows lined up with our stay in Athens so we could experience one first hand, but I heard from locals that they are really something to experience. You can also view the amphitheater from the Acropolis grounds, which give an interesting top-down view and shows how the theater is functioning to this day!

Amazing :) A great evening with "Mm. Butterfly", full moon and this Atmosphere.... fantastic. One of the Highlights in life. The Amphitheater is worth to see, even without an event.

An absolutely beautiful experience, esthetically and energetically. Surprisingly in the heart of the city, an easy Uber ride and surprisingly quite intimate. The staff was very nice, patient and very helpful. They also had a bar available to purchase drinks, including champagne, but no drinks aloud inside. The acoustics were simply divine and there seems not to be one bad seat there. They did provide cushions and covid distancing between seats. Side note I stayed after to soak in all the history and got to meet my favorite artist. If you ever have a chance to see a concert here, you won't regret it. Definitely a beautiful experience

I've been here before for sightseeing. The last time I came to listen to an evening concert. The concert was very nice. The amphitheater was magnificent. "I am still standing tall," he said, with all his glory. The pleasure of listening to a concert here is very different. It was also extra nice to have the Acropolis in the background at night.

Sitting in this theater is like travelling back in time. This is one of these ancient Greco-Roman theaters that have been restored and now host performances. Awesome!

Unbelievably beautiful theater. The most complete I’ve ever seen. The backdrop of the Parthenon combined with it’s own backdrop of the stage really make for an impressive site to see. I always knew these were steep, but when you see it in person, you really get a sense of how truly steep they really are. What’s amazing is there are still concerts here from time to time. Would love to come back and check one out in the future one day.

I had the pleasure of attending a Concert by the Moscow Bolshoy Theater Orchestra played here at the Odeon. Wow, what an experience. The atmosphere was fantastic and the music great. A truly cultural experience. Highly recommended. One word of warning: there is no back rest on these marble seats, so you may experience back/neck pain, good stretching routine before the venue - recommended

This place is magical. I visit every time I'm in Athens. I just sit in front of it, sip a take away coffee and watch the world go by. It's not possible to enter the theatre unless there's an event. If you're here in the summer, you can buy a ticket to watch a concert at this venue, which I highly recommend doing!

We went for a concert during the festival in June and it was absolutely worth it. The atmosphere was incredible, and even though we did not know the performer we enjoyed it a lot. The capacity of the theatre is 4.7k people and it was almost completely booked out. It is good to come a bit earlier as most of the people started arriving 20min before the beginning which delayed the concert start and created a big queues.

I'm happy that even after so long, we can still enjoy the history in such a large scale. Hopefully it will be preserved as well always.

Beautiful open theatre still hosting performances. Steep marble steps with cushioned stadium seating don't detract from the incredible 360 degree views. Breezy but pleasant. Modern toilets and good refreshment selection and service.

I had the opportunity to watch a live performance of the great actor and comedian John Cleese here. It was simply quite breathtaking to be inside this Iconic Roman theatre. So if you have the opportunity to go and watch a live show here instead of the tour then please do so.

We saw a ballet performance here. Outstanding venue, amazing acoustics. Foam pads are provided for the seats. Steep stairs up to and down from the seating, however there are plenty of ushers to assist people in getting to their seats. Not just giving directions, but also physically assisting those having difficulty with the climb. If your seat is in the center of a section, arrive a bit early as leg room is limited and squeezing past people already seated is tricky. No photos or recordings of performances are allowed. Take your photos before the show begins. Magical. Highly recommend.

I love all the Greek mythology. I was so excited when I visited the Odeon of Heroes. I can't get a close look at what was in my dreams. The area has lots of traffic. The streets are very narrow with so many tour buses. The bus drivers are having a difficult time getting a parking spot too. The walkway has many steps go up hill. It was a good exercise for me. Some older people were just watch from a distance!

What a venue! The energy and the scenery are simply breathtaking! We attended an opera from Jiacomo Puccini (Maddama Butterfly) and it was an amazing experience. A couple of things to consider. 1. Bring a pillow with you cos there are marble seats! Truth be told there is a pillow, but you'll need an extra one! 2. Avoid drinking alcohol or too much water cos getting to the toilets requires you to exit the venue and wait in a line! 3. There are refreshments stalls outside. 4.The venue is situated on a cobbled street with slippery (old) marbles, so wear appropriate shoes. There is a small forest in front and to the back so it tends to get chilly at night, so grab a sweater. 6. MOST IMPORTANT There have been many many accidents with getting up and down the steep stairs once inside the venue. Last time, paramedics took a person straight to the hospital with multiple fractions. 7. This is an all-accoustic venue, no speakers are allowed, so expect your operas to sound a bit....dimmed as the human voice can only do so much !

One of the most famous theaters of Athens. Spotlessly clean space, new impressive projectors, unique acoustic. Now about the negatives. Firstly, the prices are extremely raised, of course this also has to do with the organizer. Secondly, I would say it is annoying that they have forced the ushers to shout to the people about the photos and videos as if they are going to sell them in Monastiraki. Anyway, the photos 👇🏻 are from a lovely night in David's Garrett concert.

We went to see a concert here. For a lovely experience enjoy a sunset dinner at a local rooftop close, such as Sense, then head here for an evening concert. No need to pay highest dollar for closest seats - the middle area ones allow the best view. If you get the middle area top seat you get a backrest.

Great experience going there and using the Odeon as a filming location. Meant I could get right in there without all the tourists and tour guides. Unique opportunity as well at night. Seeing it lit up by our production. Awe inspiring being in the splendor of the building and the history of it.

Overall it was great to watch an opera at this theatre. Couple of notes: the usher got our seats wrong and asked us to move TWICE. Also, a sound system might elevate the experience as the singers' voices weren't clear enough for people at the top rows especially when the singers were facing the other way.

I toured to the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in 2013 as part of American Ballet Theatre. It remains one of the most memorable, and awe-inspiring, experiences of my life; performing at the foot of the Acropolis on the ancient stones. It was so hot during the day, the performances wouldn't begin until 11pm as the Marley couldn't rest upon the hot stones. Athenians sat on the stepped tiers as Athenians have done for millennia. Humbling. A direct connection to history.

I loved this, an amazing view and such a suprise when walking upto the acropolis. I couldn't go in at the time but was well worth the view looking over it. You can go inside during concerts which is something I want to do in the future.

If you are in Athens during the summer months be sure to watch one of the performances in Odeon! Whatever performance it is, just watch it and believe me it will be a mind blowing experience. Previously I have only glimpsed of the Odeon from a visit to the Acropolis. Didn’t realize that performances actually still takes place there. Prices are super affordable and more than worth it!! I feel chills just sitting there… and feeling the history and significance of ancient mortals who have sat where I was.

Not to be confused with the Theatre of Dionysus, which is a Greek theatre located further down the hill. The Roman theatre is built very steeply, and one can’t help but be awed when appreciating this beauty of an architectural design. It still stands tall in all its glory, having undergone some restoration. The theatre, while an ancient construction, is still used for performances in modern times, and one can only imagine how delightful an experience it must be to enjoy a performance here.

Another must see sight in Athens. Go when it opens (opened at 8am when I went) beat the cruise ship crowds and the heat (depending on time of year - I went in August; it was hot by 10am.) Get tickets ahead if possible. There was signage for discount but you want to do more research because you had to show your passport - I wasn't carrying mine anyway. Truly an interesting and Inspiring place to visit. Recommend it!

It is breathtaking. Unfortunately, it is not open to the public. But you can see it from the acropolis as well as from the front.

We attended and experienced a concert orchestra perform a compilation of mostly music which I was unfamiliar with. The experience was none the less amazing. We had a full moon peeking over one of the walls of the 1,836 year old structure, a 28 piece band and incredibly warm night. If you are considering an activity outside the usual visits to the ruins, please treat yourself to any sort of concert here - who/whatever is playing. The experience will be rewarding and unique.

Breathtaking venue with remarkable acoustics. Padded and comfortable seats. Expect it to be packed in July and August. It can get hard to get to a bathroom during intermission because the venue is tight and narrow.

I like this part of the Odeon. The opposite side is free from charge attached to a beautiful path way around the whole Acropolis. Nice Park with marble bench. Perfect place to sit down and chill down after walking . Please do yourself favour and order tickets online, get good shoes Also check the weather, get some hat , sun cream. By the time you reach top of Acropolis, your skin could be burned. Taking water is a good idea, too. Toilets there outside by exit. This is a place you must see.

One of the most amazing places to enjoy concerts. I've been to a few concerts here, and the sound is excellent. The venue is a historical landmark, which makes it an exciting place to see a show. However, there are a few things to keep in mind: - The legroom is limited. - The seats are uncomfortable, especially after about 15 minutes. - It can take up to 30 minutes to exit the venue after the show, depending on your seat location. Despite the drawbacks, the experience is definitely worth it.

It’s a little confusing getting around, we were making our way up to the Parthenon when we saw Odeon of Herodes Atticus from above. I would love to know how to actually enter this part since I know they have concerts. Hopefully in the future 🤞🏻

To combine an ancient theatre, moreover one of the most impressive ones, with an event, in this case the concert of Kanellidou, youre on the way for a perfect night. And at the end, take your time and don't forget to stop for dinner or snacks and drinks in one of the numerous restaurants, bars and bistrots that have opened recently in Monastiraki and Makrigiannis quarters surrounding Acropolis.

The atmosphere is magical inside this ancient theatre and under the stars, I definitely recommend coming for a concert or an opera. I suggest you bring a bottle of water and a fan, because it can be pretty hot in the summer. Also keep in mind that the seats are uncomfortable (very narrow and without a back), as they are the original marble seats of the ancient theatre, so be patient.

Looks like it would be an awesome place to have a concert or some sort of event. The view walking by from the top is incredible on your way up to the Acropolis. If I could see anyone perform there I'd probably choose to see 50 Cent perform the song P.I.M.P but instead it's G.R.E.E.K

  • 5/5 Heather R. 1 year ago on Google
Wish I got to see a performance there but sadly none was going on at the time I went. Still a sight to behold either from the back stage area or from the poor seats way up high. Stunning at night to walk around and explore the niches and nooks.

Great venue during the Athens Epidaurus festival

While I understand that the structure is not complete to its original design, it is still fascinating to me that the Theatre of Herod Atticus remains standing and in use since being built in 161 AD when we, in current times, have buildings falling apart after twenty years. It would have been an added experience to be able to walk into the theatre and walk around. No complaints that we could not; it just would have been neat.

Good place for any show. Perfect sound. May be hard to sit with no back support for a long time. However it is an ancient theater that gives the understanding how ancient people were feeling in the same conditions.

The atmosphere is amazing! Any performance there becomes more magical because of this place…💫 Only be ready to “suffer” a bit because of the seats. They are super uncomfortable, super tiny… ugh! But still worth it 😁 once a year

Went for a concert (symphony?) and had a wonderful experience. To see the artists perform in such a historic setting with the addition of lighting and modern instruments really takes you to another world. Seating could have been better. Dont know how the ancient Greeks could be the founder of civilization but not invent comfortable stadium seating. Bathrooms were a commute and stairs are formidable. Great venue!

I've been here for several concerts and operas in the past. Bolero was great here a few years ago and this theatre gives a performance a wonderful atmosphere. The last time I saw Stavros Xarchakos give a show. Words cannot describe this place. Take a look at the pictures and they say everything about the place.

Amazing space... Standing for hundreds of years, under the sacred temple of Acropolis. Event organizing is amazing, with respect to the nature of place. It's a must visit sight in Athens
