This is a must visit for any art lover and not only. It was a pleasant surprise for me. I wasn't expected to find so many very good exhibits items. You can easily spend 3-4 hours here. Coffee shop also very good. Buy the tickets online to get a discount and 10% on Coffee shop. Definitely will come back when in Athens.

This museum exists through a foundation and a private collection, and yet it is absolutely stunning. Apart from THE great ones, like The Louvre in Paris or Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, for instance, this has instantly become one of my most favorite museum ever. Their collection is nothing short of incredible, with so many different styles of art and famous artists. Keep it going, amazing job!! This museum is fully wheelchair accessible, and it has a "free entrance" policy for wheelchair users and the person who accompanies them. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, as it's in the centre of Athens and quite busy.

One of the best contemporary art museum within Athens. There are not a lot of pieces compared to some other museums, but each of them seems to have been pretty well selected, which means that the quality is there. We spent 3 hours in this museum as there are audio guides for free which explains you most pieces in details. There are both pieces from international artists such as Picasso, Van Gogh, as well as Greek artists.

It's amazing! Very well organized and they have a lot of interesting pieces. They have amazing Picasso,Monet,Degas,Giacometti's paintings. I was very surprised by their 20th Century's Greek Artists collection as well...ASTONISHING. Me and my friend left very satisfied. Tickets are 15 euros and 11 euros for students. Very well kept. I highly suggest to get the audioguides so that you really can understand the history and the details behind each piece. I will attach only two of the pictures I took since I think you should go in person and check each painting out because it's an amazing experience.

The Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation is an incredible place to visit and a must on anyone wanting to get to know the Athen’s art scene. It is housed in a 1920 neoclassical mansion next to Agios Spiridon Church. It is located in the Pangrati neighborhood of Athens. It is about a 10 minute walk from Syntagma Square. If you don’t feel like walking, you can hop on Trolley 4, direction Agio Ioannis. Once inside, you have a place to put away your bag. Also, the foundation provides free audio guides, which is a plus! There is also a small gift shop and a restaurant/cafe with an outdoor court, if the weather permits.

A private collection available for the public now in a renovated classical building. The Collection focuses on the newest and contemporary art of Greek and foreign artists, including rare works of art of big names of the European avant-garde such as Cézanne, van Gogh, Gauguin, Monet, Degas, Rodin, Toulouse-Lautrec, Bonnard, Picasso, Braque, Léger, Miró, Klee, Giacometti, Bacon, Pollock, Lichtenstein, Chagall, Botero, as well as works of distinguished names of Greek avant-garde painting such as Parthenis, Bouzianis, Vassilios, Chatzikyriakos-Gikas, Tsarouchis, Moralis, Tetsis, Stamos, Sorogas etc. An audio guide is available for most of the exhibits, which was very helpful Don't miss visiting the cafe. There is a very nice outdoor sitting and the service is exquisite

Don’t miss this museum if you enjoy art! The audioguide is excellent. You’ll find Degas, Lichtenstein, Picasso, and Monet in here. Greek artists are on the top floors. There’s seating in the galleries so you can actually enjoy the paintings at leisure. I spent about 90 mins here.

No one liked it. What a beautiful collection of artworks, if it wasn’t accompanied by the mean staff. I felt as if these beautiful artworks were placed there to generate maximum profit from the big names. I was not free to explore the art, observing closely, because it was mandatory to be part of a tour which didn’t showcase most the artworks. I was mostly disappointed because the behaviour of the security (who acted as if we were criminals) made the place lose the healthy environment a gallery should have. “It was horrible!” says the colleague.

Excellent little museum. Small selection of 20th century works, beautifully presented. Three Van Goghs, a Monet, a Chagal, a gorgeous little Jackson Pollock, and a few other nice surprises.

A lovely museum with great pieces, however there is an over reaction in what has to do with security and guarding. Even families with kids can feel like bandits. Take it easy guys.

The Goulandris Museum of Contemporary Art features works by a diverse range of artists, both Greek and international. You can find pieces from various artistic movements and styles, spanning paintings, sculptures, installations, and more. The museum strives to present a comprehensive view of contemporary art, so you might encounter works from artists exploring different themes and techniques. It's a great place to explore the dynamic and evolving world of modern art! Don’t forget to visit the perfect museum shop on the ground floor and the cafe-restaurant on the 1st floor, they serve a serious NY cheesecake

My favorite modern art museum in Europe. Best pieces of the iconic artists of modern art. You need to have a hot chocolate and cake in the café.

Exceptional museum come art gallery. Ignore the reviews about surly staff, they are friendly and helpful with a good sense of humour. Some wonderful art with great commentary available. And a beautiful restaurant or café for when you wilt. Well worth a visit.

I went with my 9,5 year old son. Although he's been to the National Gallery and the Modern Art Museum, he told me that this was the best day of his life and that he could not believe that he saw such important paintings!!! As Athenians, we are proud and lucky to have this museum. It's not big but I think that this is what makes it so special. That you can actually feel and enjoy the proximity to the art pieces, in a cozy, wonderful environment. No huge rooms, no crowds. Just you and original paintings of Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Braque, Kandinsky etc....

One of the best art museums in Athens. I've been there three times and I keep visiting every few months. What's very helpful is that you are provided with an audio guide, that provides thorough information about the art pieces. The museum's staff is very helpful and pleasant. Once in a while there are held temporary exhibitions, that are very interesting and informative.

Less of a museum, more of a gallery, but great all the same. My favorites would have to be van Gogh’s Olive Picking & Monet’s Rouen Cathedral in the Morning. Quite a few works by Picasso as well, even a couple piece of his pottery.

Very small private collection, displayed in a modern setting. There is a Picasso, Van Gogh, Gaugien, and Kandinsky among others. The cafe stands out, both for its pristine setting and breezy outside space as well as the meticulously crafted food. They serve decaf Greek coffee among others!

Impressive museum with an exclusive collection of art from famous artists around the world. You will find a lot of art from Impressionism

This is a stunning private museum. The collection and temporary exhibitions are mainly focused on French/European avant-garde. The collection of Greek artists is small (for this I recommend the national gallery). The foundation is not only showing stunning names as Picasso, Seurat, Lichtenstein… it is dedicated to doing own research and publishing catalogues of art historical value. The book shop is a must see!

I had visited quite a few times the beautiful permanent collection of this museum. I went this time to see the neo-expressionist expo showing rarely seen works from the era, as many of the paintings came from private collections. Wonderful experience

We trusted the recommendations and visited the Museum. The collection is stunning! Audio guides are for free, we loved the floor with the Greek artist and the gift shop. We will come back to get some limited prints. Thank you 🙏🧡

Super nice museum! If you’re into modern art then you must check this out. There’s even some Van Gogh and Picasso. The building itself worth checking out!

Picasso is obviously included in most of the museums throughout Europe - this just so happens to be another one. BOY was it GREAT! Other artists across the past centuries also have their works on display

Top-quality museum with a small, albeit very interesting, collection. The recent extension is an architectural gem and the café too makes for a relaxing break. My favourites: Tetsis and Kiefer.

Great art location in the heart of Athens. The building features a great interior architecture. Works of many famous artists like Picasso are on display. Very friendly and helpful staff, most of them speaking several languages. Taking fotos without flash is allowed.

A beautiful art gallery that inhabits a varied collection of modern art, both international and local. The gallery caffe is a real sanctuary of calm and minimalist design and excellent coffe.

Great collection of pieces, that has the ability to transcend across the barriers of those with in-depth art knowledge, down to those of us with the most rudimentary appreciation....and the cafe/restaurant is great

I highly recommend a visit to the Goulandris Foundation. Flawless implementation of the new building by the architectural office Vikelas with respect to the neoclassical one. Particularly commendable is the lighting design both on the staircase, which resembles a sculpture, and in the exhibition, giving you the impression that the colors spring up through the paintings.

Broad and excellent collection of Modern Art. Beautiful building and overall an inspiring, well-ordered presentation of the works based on style, year, size, and mood. A must!

  • 5/5 Stavros A. 2 years ago on Google
The facilities, the buildings and the exposition are marvellous. It is the perfect museum for someone to get an idea on art from the 1500's until today. Like an art history class. Some of the most important paintings can be found here.

  • 5/5 George A. 2 years ago on Google
Perhaps the most interesting collection of paintings and sculptures from renowned Greek and International artists in Athens. The building is magnificent too. A must visit.

  • 5/5 Natan S. 1 year ago on Google
Great artwork! Especially the Rodin sculptures. You can come close to the artwork and even take photos. There's also a cloakroom for your bags and audio guide which is easy to operate.

What a wonderful selection! Carefully curated, not one piece is out of place. The audio guide is included in the price, the museum shop and the museum cafe have a great selection. It is highly recommended even for families with children.
