Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum is hidden gem in the heart of Vadodara. While I was little short of time however I could appreciate the vast collection. Located within the sprawling Lakshmi Vilas Palace Estate, the museum showcases art pieces that belong to the illustrious Maratha family. European Renaissance and Rococo paintings, portraits, marble busts, and a collection of portraiture by Raja Ravi Verma (more than 30 original paintings). After enjoying the museum you would come across scaled down version of the flying scotsman and it happens to be ...in 2023 The original Flying Scotsman in the UK is celebrating its 100th anniversary, unfortunately the museum here was surely not aware of or else they could have done something more to make it special for the visitors. If you're lucky you might be able to catch a glimpse of cricket at local cricket club right next to the museum.

Museum is hidden inside the lush green surroundings. Gate number 4 of the palace is the entry gate for museum. Due to its secluded nature, you may find it hard to get out of this location. Book ola/uber or ask the auto to wait unless you have your own vehicle. Ticket costs ~150. If you buy ticket along with Laxmi Vilas Palace ticket, they give you discount. So plan to visit palace first. The collection of paintings and statues is impressive. Although Felici's masterpieces dominate the view. There is a Headgear collection which has variety of headgears used in the olden days. At least 1 hr is needed to see the complete museum. Photography is prohibited inside and the mobiles will be collected at the ticket counter. Timing is 10:30 am to 5:30 PM except Monday. Worth visiting, if you have an eye for art. Don't miss to locate peacocks in the surroundings.

The collection of Greek Roman sculptures is only one of its kind in Gujarat. Raja Ravi Verma's painting collection is the main attraction. The most irritating and stupid rule is you have to submit your mobile before entering. They should allow photography on the payment of charges.

Maharaja Fatehsingh Museum is one of the best places to visit in Vadodara. It was originally built as a school for the children and now houses a wide range of art pieces that once belonged to the family of Maratha. It also exhibits paintings from the European Renaissance and Rococo art styles, and a collection of portraiture by Raja Ravi Verma. It is one of the famous museums in Vadodara.

Do not miss this museum, you can find here great art collection. You can buy the tickets at the entrance here or at Lukshmivilas Vilas. It's 2km from the palace. You need to deposit your mobiles at the counter. Inside you find many marvelous artifacts. Especially a huge collection of Raja Ravi Varma's painting, a whole gallery is dedicated for his work. Apart from this you can find mind-blowing spectacular paintings by many European artists. These paintings will take you back in time and leave you wondering how beautifully they have captured everything be it nature or the people. Also in the gardens here you can find peacocks.

The place gives you serenity in the middle of city. A must visit place if you are in Vadodara. The lavishness of the King Gaikwad and the history behind the rulers of Vadodara is well portrayed. The place is clean, highly maintained and perfectly detailed for the visitors.

It's an amazing place with a wonderful painting & sculpture collection of the Gaikwads. I recommend that you buy a combined ticket at the palace itself as the ticket machine breaks down often here.

This is the largest Raja Ravi Verma painting collection we've seen... not many people visit this place but if you're in vadodara, please do make time. Also, the combo ticket is available at laxmi vilas palace. There is a toy train that the king bought for his son's school, world's smallest steam locomotive - spot it bang opposite the museum 😀 Pro tip: spend most of the time at the Ravi Verma paintings and skim through rest. There are many copies, read carefully and don't spend much time. Pretty large collection, save yourself from fatigue 😜

Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum is a museum housed within the Maharaja's palace (the Lakshmi Vilas Palace) in Vadodara, India The building was constructed as a school for the Maharaja's children. Today a large number of works of art belonging to the Maratha Royal family are displayed in the museum. The museum contains works of art collected by Maharaja Sir Sayajirao Gaekwad III during his numerous trips out of India. The major works of art in this museum are the paintings by European and Indian artists including a collection of the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, who was specially commissioned by the then Maharaja of Baroda. The collection includes portraits of the Royal family in addition to the paintings based on Hindu mythology for which Raja Ravi Varma was famous. There is a collection of sculptures in marble and bronze. These include copies of great masters in bronze commissioned by the Maharaja and also originals by renowned artists. One of the artists commissioned by the Maharaja was an Italian artist Fellicci whose works adorn not only the Museum but also the Lakshmi Vilas Palace. Some of Fellici's works can be seen on the Public Park ( Sayaji Garden also known as Kamati Baug by the locals). The museum has an oriental gallery which houses Japanese and Chinese sculptures and other works collected by the Maharaja on his visits to these countries

I had the pleasure of visiting the Maharaj Fatehsingh Museum during my recent trip to Baroda, and I must say it was a truly exceptional experience. The museum's architecture is breathtaking, and the exhibits are exquisite. It was fascinating to learn about the rich history and culture of Baroda through the carefully curated displays. The museum houses an impressive collection of artifacts, including paintings, sculptures, and textiles, which provide a glimpse into the glorious past of the region. The audio guide provided insightful information, which made the visit even more enriching. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the facilities were well-maintained. The museum's serene atmosphere was an added bonus, making it a perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Overall, the Maharaj Fatehsingh Museum is an absolute must-visit for anyone interested in art, history, or culture. I highly recommend this museum to anyone visiting Baroda!"

Just loved it. Whenever you visit do add this palace in your list. It is eye pleasing.. A treat to your eyes. You can also go for Maharana Fatehsingh Museum. The palace and the museum displays the top level of architectures, beautiful sculptures, mind blowing paintings. You can know about different history of different countries. Do visit. The fun fact is the royal family still resides in this palace on the top floor. And the ground floor is entirely dedicated for visitors.

Located within the premises of the Lakshmi Vilas Palace, the museum is housed in a building that once served as the home-school for the Maharaja’s children. Today, you can find a treasure trove of art collections within the walls of this building. Major works of art by famous painters from Europe and India are displayed here, including a special collection of paintings of Raja Ravi Varma. The museum is in the same campus of Laxmi Vilas palace, but with a different entrance. The museum majorly consists of amazing paintings and artifacts belonging to Gaikwad family. The museum is well kept and ensured all the paintings are in good shape. Some of the paintings were humungous in nature. They also have a small souvenir shop in the same premises.

They won't let you take pictures of anything.. They will keep your phone outside.. nd you'll not be allowed to touch anything inside. Also the ticket costs much more.. so if you don't like art & Craft and paintings much... Nd you just want to hang around and have fun this is not the ideal place for you. Also i got little disappointed coz they didn't let me take any picture for my Instagram. I they should allow the camera inside

We visited on a weekday afternoon and it was not at all crowded. Ticket price per adult is ₹150. You'll have to deposit your mobile phones at the ticket counter but they didn't check our bags to determine if we are carrying any other electronic device. So deducting half point for low security. The museum is good, especially the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma. When you look closely, the detailing will blow your mind. The arrangement is also done very neatly. Only issue is the lighting arrangement. An art gallery needs to have specialized lights to focus on the painting and not a general white tubelight due to which viewers were seeing their own reflections in the paintings. Cutting another half a point there. More investment is required to change the lights which will do justice to the paintings in real sense.

The Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum is a prominent museum located in Vadodara, Gujarat, India. It is named after Maharaja Fateh Singh, the last ruling Maharaja of the princely state of Baroda (now Vadodara). The museum is housed within the beautiful Lakshmi Vilas Palace, which was the royal residence of the Gaekwad dynasty. The museum showcases an extensive collection of artifacts that offer insights into the rich history and culture of Gujarat and the Gaekwad dynasty. It houses a diverse range of items including sculptures, paintings, textiles, arms and armor, royal portraits, manuscripts, and various other objects of historical significance. The exhibits span different periods and provide visitors with a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of the royal family. One of the key highlights of the museum is the collection of European paintings, which includes works by renowned artists such as Raphael, Titian, Murillo, and Rembrandt. These artworks were acquired by the Maharajas of Baroda during their travels abroad and add to the cultural wealth of the museum. The Maharaja Fateh Singh Museum is a popular tourist attraction and draws visitors from both India and abroad. The grandeur of the Lakshmi Vilas Palace, combined with the fascinating collection of artifacts, makes it a must-visit destination for history and art enthusiasts.

Museum entry fee is Rs.150/- per person and Rs.30/- extra if you want Audio guide. Photography is not allowed inside the museum. You have to deposit all your luggage to entry counter. The museum - a pvt collection of the Gaekwad family; erstwhile rulers of Baroda ; is very rare, rich and impressive. The highlight is the 43 paintings by Raja Ravi Verma...just priceless. The artist has drawn situations and people from Hindu Vedas but with a maharashtrian touch - you will see damyanti, janki, etc dressed in maharashtrian attire and jewellery. Don't miss it. Mobiles, cameras not allowed and need to be deposited at entrance. A combo ticket along with Laxmi nivas palace will save 25 bucks. Free parking available. Small cafe with limited options available.

The place visually is very attractive and gives a sense of royalty. There is a guide who explains you the detail and the backstory of all the paintings and statues. There are some specialities in some of the statues, like some are made of only one rock. Then there is furniture of China, and the paintings made by Raja Ravi Varma which look so real, some paintings that are double sided and some made by the English people. And then at least there were these detailed accessories of their time some of China, Japan and the Marathas like utensils, clothes and caps and pagdis. A must visit place overall 👍😀

Museum has excellent collection of pictures of Raja Ravi Varma and other masters. Collection of beautiful artifacts, statues, and glass work. Audio guide is good and come with extra cost. Just ensure that they have changed it properly. Photography is not allowed.

Museum is a super place for those interested in Art and culture. Raja Ravi Verma has been phenomenal with his art presented here. Each of his paintings is a true art delight and has intricate detailed work.

Don't buy tickets for museum along with palace ticket at the palace. This place is 2km away from the Luxmi Vilas Palace so if you visit the palace first then you'll feel exhausted and feel like not going to museum and if you don't have own vehicle the better skip this place. This place has hundreds of rare stunning paintings, antiques from various countries, beautiful bronze, stone, marbel, wooden Statue. Phone is not allowed inside the museum.

Beautiful pictures are there. But lighting is not good. We can see our own reflection rather than the fine details in the art. Please take care to illuminate properly so that everyone can really enjoy such beautiful works

Not worth of 150₹ tickets 🎟 Small museum without modern facilities like AC.. Tickets are costlier It’s better if tickets price 25₹ only

A place worth visiting for art lovers. Apart from Raja Ravi Varma's mythological paintings, there are painting of several European artists as well.

Lavish palace. Wide collection of artifacts. Entry tickets are costly in comparison to the area offered for tourists to visit. Audio guides are old and useless

The museum presents history of Baroda in a pretty interesting way. The change in culture which British brought is depicted even with the accent of walls, and dinnerware set. I really adored the porcelain cutlery. Though one is not allowed to photograph the place and as soon as one enters the museum it is understandable why it is forbidden. Also They provide locker facility for mobile phones.
