The museum is set up in the Queen Victoria memorial institute buildings located in Jubilee Garden, Rajkot. The museum was named in fond memory of Colonel John Watson in 1888 who was a British political agent of Kathiawar Agency from 1881 to 1889. Watson Museum is the second most important museum in Gujarat, after the Museum of Baroda and is the oldest museum in Saurashtra (region). Colonel Watson was fond of history and archaeology and used to collect information on Rajkot. Most of his collections and other artifacts are preserved here. The museum building was completed in 1893, and opened to the public by Governor Lord George Harris of Bombay Presidency. The Watson Museum exhibits copies of artifacts from Mohenjodaro, natural history, 13th century carvings, temple statues, costumes and design of the houses of the local tribal people. The Watson Museum also houses an excellent collection of traditional, archaeological items and coins. While the museum's archeology gallery also boasts of artifacts of prehistoric period and the Harappan civilization in the archeology gallery, a treasure of sculptures belonging to erstwhile Ghumali - a capital of Jethwa - grace the sculpture gallery.

The Watson Museum exhibiting collection of items from around Gujarat. The items are good quality, and arranged thematically. The items on display is a very eclectic mix of items that would not be out of place in a major museum, but arranged in a compact package. Sadly, there’s very little information except for the labels. The religious statues, marble statue of Queen Victoria and the Durbar Hall of the princely states of Gujarat are the most interesting items in the museum. The museum is located inside Jubilee Garden and can be done in about 30 minutes. The cost of entry is trivial, but taking photos is twice the cost of entrance for a foreigner.

One of the largest and oldest museums in Gujarat, the Watson Museum is located in the Jubilee Garden area of Rajkot, Gujarat. The museum contains many artefacts and belongings of the Jadeja Rajput dynasty, who were also the founder of the princely state of Rajkot. The Gujarat State Government manages this museum and has preserved this as a part of the state’s long and rich cultural heritage. Other than the collections, the museum also has an extensive library. Moreover, it has a few counters from where the museum’s own published materials are sold to the public. Gujarat has a considerably warm and humid climate all round the year, and therefore, the best time to visit Rajkot would be during the autumn and winter months (from October to February). These months experiences a comparatively lower temperature (the average temperature during these months fall down to around 16 to 20 degrees of celsius) and mild breezes, which would make vacationing experiences more pleasant than those during the scorching months of summer.

It is one of the best museum I have seen in my life. Their are many historical things of Gujarat we can't find anywhere. And the charge is also very minimum. It is one of the oldest mueseum of Gujrat having such presence of Art. I recommend you to must visit if you have some time , it takes around 30 minutes.

A pleasant day spent in the Jubilee Gardens is the ideal way to enhance ones body and mind. Nestled within nature’s bounty are the Watson Museum and the Lang Library. The museum is named after a British political agent, Colonel John Watson. Numbers of sections divided into the museums are manuscripts, textile, inscription, sculptures, coins, anthropology, folk embroidery and handicraft, musical instruments, woodwork, natural history and rocks and minerals, 13th-century temple statues, carvings, memorabilia of Colonial rulers, library paintings and the paintings donated by the neighboring rulers are the highlights of the museums.

This museum I felt is okay. The price is affordable and one time visit. The one thing which i am not impressed is that they have different price for taking photos and videos. Photos - 100rs Videos - 500rs. The ticket is so cheap though.. I personally feel that for taking camera inside the price must include both photos and videos.

This museum has a great collection of different artifacts. A lot of the collection is 12th century. It is very clean and well kept. Though the upkeep is missing. There are stairs to climb but no disabled or wheelchair access. Overall it's worth a visit.

Loved this museum! There was tons of historical knowledge and information. Plenty to show for the history of India and the influences of the British empire. The staff were not the most helpful however the exhibits more than make up for that.

So I had read that Watson Museum is one of the best museums in Saurashtra. But honestly, this one is pretty underwhelming and turned out to be a waste of time. The artifacts and are relics are poorly displayed and quite a few things look like a random display of assorted items from the days of yore. Some display items don't even look like they belong in the museum.

The Watson Museum, considered to be one of the best among the seven such museums located across Saurashtra (region) and managed by the Gujarat state Government, it has collections of precious objects from the princely State of Rajkot founded by the Jadeja Rajputs. It holds invaluable articles, artifacts, photographs, a reference library and the museum's publication are sold through a counter.

The region of Saurashtra has gone becoming the house of a large number of princely states of industrial cities. The Watson museum inside the Jubilee Garden, commensurate Colonel John Watson, showcases the district’s colonial history and artifacts found in the sites back to the Indus Valley Civilization.

(Translated by Google) Watson Museum is an invaluable gift of Rajkot..a nice fun place inside the Jubilee Garden .. besides the royal kingdom, the invaluable historical heritage of Rajkot has been preserved. It's like looking at old-fashioned weapons and costumes. Also rare are the coins and birds. Well maintained artifacts, sculptures from history. The museum itself was established in 1988. It is located inside Jubilee Garden. I am sure kids will also enjoy the collection. It may take 30 mins to 2-3 hours based on your interest. Entry ticket is Rs. 5 per person and you need to pay 100 if you want to take photographs inside. There is a small garden and children's play area near around the museum.

Set up amidst the Jubilee Gardens, Watson Museum is a majestic museum, famous for housing artefacts, handicrafts, pottery, and princely relics dating back to 13th century. The museum is named after a British political agent, Colonel John Watson. Numbers of sections divided into the museums are manuscripts, textile, inscription, sculptures, coins, anthropology, folk embroidery and handicraft, musical instruments, woodwork, natural history and rocks and minerals. Indus Valley Civilization artefacts collected from Saurashtra region, 13th-century temple statues, carvings, memorabilia of Colonial rulers, library paintings and the paintings donated by the neighboring rulers are the highlights of the museums. Since the museum holds some vulnerable articles related to the history, it is all taken care by State Government. Also the museum is deemed as one of the finest and largest wide-ranging museums of Gujarat. Every year, on the second week of January, the museum hosts a weeklong Bhartiya Shilp Samrudhi festival. Watson museum is situated at the jubilee garden in rajkot. Museum have collection of sculpture, idols of hindu gods, paintings, pandulipis(manuscripts), pottery and other handicrafts. Main attractions of museum are historical remains of kutchh district and kathiyawad peninsula which dates back to 1500 BC. Museum also have collection of Indus valley civilization remains. Museum have also stored ancient sculpture of European origin which were left behind when british left india in 1947. Every showcased items at the museum have historical details attached to it, which is good to understand the importance of that particular item in history. Museum is good, collection is very good but what lacks is popularity of museum among local public. There is need for special drive to increase number of visitors and popularize museum. museum space also needs to be enlarged.

Watson museum is one of the antient monument in the heart of the city where one can find other historical sites to view. This museum preserves archeological rocks and idols of god and godesses , different kinds of saree fabric which are cultural dresses of people of saurashtra. Museum also contains variety of species of animals and birds found on the land of saurashtra and rajkot and nearby places. The museum is rich source of historical information of British India and one can see reflection of british architecture on the building of museum. Once every year Watson Museum exhibits coins and notes of different denominations of India and foriegn countries. I still remember the grand show of these currencies from olden India to Morden India. You must visit if you are fond of archiological objects and sites. History of India can be seen in this museum. Museum is aligned with a theatere again with british architecture. You will also find Lang Library one of the oldest libraries of Rajkot eminated with good collection of books from antient to modern. Within 300 meters is situated the national heritage GANDHI MUSEUM which is made inside Alfred High School where Mahatma Gandhi studied once.
