Sikotar
Mata
is
also
called
as
Vahanvati
Mata.
There
is
one
popular
story
of
Sikotar
Mata
and
Jagdusa.
It
explains
how
Sikotar
Mata
started
to
know
as
Vahanvati.
When
drought
took
over
Saurashtra
region,
a
merchant
named
Jagdusa
came
to
Khambhat
and
entrapped
his
ships.
He
was
true
devotee
of
Maa
Sikotar
and
soon
his
business
grown
full
fledged.
He
became
very
rich.
Wondering
what
to
do
with
the
money
he
had,
he
bought
a
gold
chain
for
Sikotar
Maa.
But
later
on,
being
a
merchant,
his
thoughts
changed
after
he
saw
gleaming
gold.
Instead
of
devoting
to
Sikotar
Maa,
he
kept
the
chain
for
his
wife.
That
night
Sikotar
Maa
appeared
in
his
dream
and
told
Jagdusa
to
see
the
positions
of
his
ships.
Jagdusa
came
out
and
saw
his
ships
sinking
in
the
sea.
He
realized
the
mistake
and
immediately
apologised
Sikotar
Maa.
Maa
accepted
his
apologies
and
saved
his
ships
from
sinking.
From
this
incident,
Goddess
is
called
as
Vahanvati
too.
The
temple
has
peaceful
environment.
There
are
12
Jyotirlinga
in
the
Dhushmeshwar
Mahadev
temple
just
opposit
to
Sikotar
Mata
temple.
There
are
so
many
idols
of
god
and
goddess
in
this
temple.
Hardly
any
god
or
goddess
would
be
seen
skipped.
Almost
all
idols
are
there.
Shri
Rameshbhai
Patel
is
very
kind
person
and
he
is
handling
entire
activities
of
temple.
Every
year
Navratri
festival
is
celebrated
with
full
joy
and
a
huge
crowd.
Every
year
in
the
night
of
Navratri
Ashtami
(8th
day
of
Navratri
called
as
Aatham
too),
during
running
Garba,
Sikotar
Mata
comes
on
the
Garba
Chawk
and
the
sound
of
the
anklet
is
listened
and
its
a
miracle.
There
is
a
tall
copper
pillar
here
near
the
temple.
Legend
says
that
back
in
time
when
ships
lost
their
way,
they
used
to
pray
to
Vahanvati
Mata.
Soon
a
lamp
would
be
lightened
up
on
the
copper
pillar
for
direction
and
thus
ships
would
reach
their
destination
safely.
Temple
offers
Prasad
(free
meal)
everyday
in
the
noon
between
11
am
to
1
pm.
There
is
very
good
accommodation
facility
at
very
reasonable
price.
AC
and
Non
AC
rooms
are
available.
Parking
area
is
very
huge.
There
are
so
many
stalls
of
various
food
like
Khichu,
Corn
bhel,
Ice
cream,
cold
drinks,
Snacks,
toys,
decorative
items
etc.
You
can
buy
Halvasan
(famous
sweet
of
Khambhat)
here
at
very
reasonable
price.
I
have
observed
that
all
food
and
other
items
like
toys
etc
are
sold
at
very
low
price
here.
I
would
strongly
recommend
to
visit
this
temple
in
Sharadiya
Navratri
(sep/oct)
and
to
stay
here
for
a
night.
You
will
enjoy
a
lot.
