Thol is a bird sanctuary around 30 km far from Ahmedabad. You can go there by your own vehicle. Parking facility for both 2 and 4 wheeler vehicle is available. Entry fee 50 Rs. / Person or 500 Rs. / Four wheeler vehicle in which there is no individual entry fee for number of persons. We have to go around 1.5 km far from main gate where there is a parking area , garden, drinking water, toilet facilities etc. It is "plastic free zone" so don't carry any food in plastic bags otherwise you have to submit them all at the entry point. There are few islands nearby this parking area where we can watch flamingo and other birds nicely. We can walk around the lake and can explore the place. There are many points where we can take photos. Earlier there was a cafeteria but it is non functional now. The other main thing is there is binocular available at the point nearby the entrance. You have to push 2 rupees/ 1 rupee big coin in the coin slot given in the binocular and you can watch birds from binocular. So take lots of 2 rupees coin or 1 rupee big coins with you and enjoy watching birds with binocular. It was a great experience to watch birds from binocular. This place could have been more developed for tourists.. more binoculars are needed at all the points or at least at 4-5 points to watch birds and people are encouraged to watch birds through binocular that's how revenue also will be generated.. There should be arrangements of food available only at canteen so people will not hide and carry any food stuff inside.. only fruits can be sell in paper packing or foods can be served in reusable dishes like in all tourist places in Kerala..

Thol Bird Sanctury Ahmedabad Gujarat Situated on the banks of the Arabian Sea, Gujarat is the fifth largest state of India. The state is famous for being the birthplace of the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Apart from that, it is also known for its rich ancient history, its unique cultural background, and mouth watering delicacies. The state is the owner of the famous Indus Valley Civilization. Approximately over 50 ruins were discovered by the archeologists of the extinct civilization. Gujarat is home to many historical monuments and various other tourists’ spots. In this era of artificiality, Gujarat owns a man made artificial lake, located in Thol Village and named after it as Thol Lake, in the Mehsana district of Gujarat. Features of Thol Lake Thol Lake, owns a famous Thol wildlife sanctuary and welcomes dozens of birds from different species. The sanctuary has an in-build shallow water body for the birds. Many migratory birds visit this sanctuary, nest and breed in the water body. Some prominently noticed bird species are Flamingoes and Sarus Crane, which are pretty rare to be found elsewhere. Apart from birds, mammals such as bluebull, striped hyena, wolves, golden jackal and blackbuck also reside in this particular sanctuary. One of the main attractions of this particular lake is that it is surrounded by marshy plants. Other than that, many different kinds of flowers and thorny plants are also to be found here. This lake is appropriate for a one day trip. In this fast and monotonous work life and unrealistic study pressure on the kids, managing a vacation for a few days is just not affordable both in terms of money and time. We all are searching for a location for a one day outing or maybe a small family picnic, Thol Lake is appropriate for both. History of Thol Lake Looking on to the history of Thol Lake, this lake is a fresh water reservoir, artificially constructed in the year 1912, by Gaekwad regime. During that time, India was facing a severe water crisis. Hence the ministers or the authority at that time built this reservoir to provide water for irrigation purposes. Currently the lake is maintained and controlled by the forest and irrigation departments of the government of Gujarat. What to expect at Thol Lake If you are a nature enthusiast person, a one day trip to this lake would boost up your mood like none other place would do. Being around nature in this polluted and toxic era is a luxury and Gujarat provides you with such luxury without much cost. One travelling here can expect to see lots of birds of various different species. Different species usually found here are like different varieties of flamingos, purple colored swamp hen, spoonbill, bulbuls, sandpipers, ibis, little ringed plover, snipe, common species of snipe, green colored shrunk, heron, sun bird, peacock and many more other species. Other than the flying fauna, various earth crawling mammals such as zebras, jackals, etc can be observed during a safari session. It is preferable to carry enough required food items and water as the availability of these is an issue. The locals here are humble and act as a tourist guide showcasing various special features of the bird sanctuary, and also offer to show around the beautiful village of Thol.

Very serene place, less commercial. Roads inside from the entry gate till parking (about 1.5km) are not properly built. Also the timing given on Google is not updated, hence uploading a local timing picture along with parking charges. Must visit the place if you like natural habitats and birds :)

Thol is one of the best bird century i have ever visited. If you want to see birds, you must go early morning before sunrise. It is so peaceful and there are really very less people during that time. Canteen is closed due to covid. You can take car inside but it is more fun to go walking. There are really many unique birds . Must visit

Visited there early in the morning, quite peaceful and mesmerizing place. A paradise for migratory birds, where you can get to see flamingos, cranes, and many more bird species. A must visit destination for birdlovers, nature lovers and anyone who wanna take a break from their busy metro life and enjoy beauty of nature. Early morning bird sounds are just amazing😍

Visit Year 2021. October Month. As usual amazing place for Nature lovers like me, Visited Thol Bird sanctuary in the month of October 2021. It’s not exactly the season to spot Migratory birds but can spot Ibis, King Fisher, Heron and other local Birds. Must carry - If you want to spot birds have Good Binoculars. Do’s and Don’ts- Can roam inside and don’t crate any noise which can disturb birds (I have seen people coming here like City Garden and do all around noise) Things to remember before visiting - Plastic Water bottles not allowed in side Sanctuary. Months to visit - Generally all 12 Month you can visit but if you are Bird Enthusiastic then visit between November to February. When you can actually spot migratory birds.

You are in for a surprise to know about Thol Bird Sanctuary. Thol Lake is an artificial lake near Thol village. It was constructed as an irrigation tank in 1912. It is a fresh water lake surrounded by marshes. It was declared a bird sanctuary in 1988 with a habitat to 150 species of birds with majority of them are water birds. Many migratory birds nest and breed in the lake and its periphery.

From the moment I stepped onto the grounds of Thol Bird Sanctuary, I was enveloped in a sense of peace and tranquility. The verdant landscape surrounding the freshwater lake created a breathtaking canvas, further adorned by the gentle symphony of birdsong. My visit coincided with the migratory season, and I was absolutely enthralled by the kaleidoscope of feathers flitting across the sky. Foreign birds, rarely seen in my usual environment, added a touch of exotic magic to the scene. Observing their intricate behavior, from graceful swoops to territorial squabbles, was a true delight for the senses. Thol Bird Sanctuary isn't just a haven for avian enthusiasts; it's a paradise for anyone seeking a respite from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The serene atmosphere is perfect for a nature walk, a quiet picnic, or simply soaking in the beauty of the natural world. There were, of course, a few minor aspects that could be improved. (Here, you could mention any specific challenges you faced, like limited facilities or poor accessibility). However, these were easily overshadowed by the overall positive experience.

Life close to nature is the best life.. Thol lake or Thol bird sanctuary is a beautiful place to be with nature , birds and your self. Awesome place to chill with friends, Also you you can carry your DSLR camera but it's chargeable, But you can afford it if you are nature and birds lover. Per person entry fees is 50 Rs and it's quite good and worth it. And It has a long area at round shape so you can enjoy more walk along and enjoy the view Go early morning around 6am to get the most out of it as day progresses heat increases and carry your sun protection kit with you , sunscreen , hat, cap & your cool glasses.

Visited the sanctuary in mid of January. Lake had sufficient waters. Though birds were there, they keep themselves at a distance on the small islands of the lake and the other side. So you must carry binoculars to have a glimpse of the birds. Entry fee for car with four passengers is Rs. 500. No restaurant facility was available.

When I reach there around 7 AM morning the place the birds are fly away from the sanctuary...so we wait for the sunrise and and that's it.. after this we left the place because there are no other activities there..also the road of birds sanctuary is raw road and fees is per person is 40rs and if you have four-wheel than its cost you 400rs including 6person.

Nice place to go for a sunrise and a small picnic. The place is not well maintained though. Entry fees for car is 500, bike is 100 and no charge for cycles. Do carry a picnic basket if you intend to spend an hour or two with your mates. Also, try to reach early and take right from the main entrance.

Thol lake is the best place if you live in Ahmedabad... But people are very careless, they throw the garbage everywhere... That makes you disappointed..so please teach your kids to respect Nature.. India can be same nice and clean as Europe if people will take the responsibility for their actions and not only scold the government.

One of my most favourite recreational places in Ahmedabad. I used to study in Rancharda village, so Thol place is near around 7-8 km from Rancharda village. Ever since the college time, I used to come here with my friends. A scenic place to chill and hangout. If you wish to watch migrated birds, try coming in around winter or in the end of monsoon season. It's almost 22-25 kms from Ahmedabad. Now, the road leads to this place is developed and well maintained. There are a few cons of Thol Bird Sanctuary which can be worked upon by the respective authorities. Like a lot of young couple come here to show PDA lol. Outside food isn't allowed. They'll take every last bit of the food from your bag at the entry (maybe to save pollution?) But they have a canteen inside which sells food at a hefty price. And that's why they don't allow outside food.

THOL is a must visit place if you're in a Gujarat. But the main thing is You've to visit in early morning. After morning 9-10 you'll find nothing over here. Better to go in Winter nd Monsoon. (Don't ever try to go in summer or after morning 9-9:30) The best thing that in every morning with the light sunrise and bird chirping you'll get so much of inner peace that any one can't expressed in words. But, Please note that some infrastructure is under renovation. So, not all the things are open here. Parking Fee: 0 for 2-wheeler and 200 for 4-wheeler. (best if you go on 2-wheeler) Entry Fee: 40/- per person if you take DSLR with you then you've to pay for the photography fees also, which is 500/-

A good place for peace of mind, But management is wired, there is 2 to 3 hour slots, If you enter any time before 9:30 needs to exit at 9:30, Management will let you enter even at 9:15 and ask to exit at 9:30, Another slot is 9:30 to 12, There is no such information displayed on, There is suggestion book available, please write suggestions in that, Officials are aware of all but keeping a blind eye on sake of rules, People are parking outside on the road to save bucks and creating traffic jams, 500 Rs for car entry better to pay to avoid getting punctured, The last few km is single lane which, along with careless parking creates madness, Even seen people returning by fear of traffic jam.

Little heaven, In monsoon especially, green Lush is at its optimum beaty level and thousands of birds. Their chirping tones makes it even more natural. Here the soil is very fertile and its smell too good after raining. Loved this place ! Cyclists have some priviledge.

A wonderful place which is destroyed by unruly crowd. People blaring horns, creating a ruckus. saw some of them chasing down birds. This is not ethically right. FYI the charges are 50/person or 500/vehicle in which case you do not have to pay for the person in the vehicle. If you want to enjoy nature, avoid going on a week-end

Awesomeness overloaded! 😻 😍MUST visit nature place of Ahmedabad in Monsoon and early Winter time when the lake is full of water. Look at the Sunrise ☀️ there at early morning and you would think of not coming back to home 🤪😍🥰 Thol Bird Sanctuary is located near Thol village and very near from the Ahmedabad city. It is very popular for the natural beauty and birds 🦅 visiting there from all over the 🌎 world. Place remains so different and unique because away from the city and zero pollution. Because of no pollution present there, anyone can see a crystal clear view of clouds ☁️ in the sky too. The lake is an artificial lake which is created by the Gaikwad regime. To supply water for agriculture during the absence of rainfall, the Lake was created. Thol Lake Bird Sanctuary is one of the most popular Bird hotspots in Gujarat which is around 27 km away from Ahmedabad. Thol Wildlife Sanctuary welcomes dozens of different species of Birds and Mammals. The sanctuary has a built-in shallow pond for birds to attract Migratory Birds. Covering the landscape in pink, the area is very popular in the rainy season and winter. This Bird Sanctuary is surrounded by waterlogged vegetation and different types of Thorny and Flowers Plants. One can find a cozy place below any tree to spend whole day there as one day picnic. Be advised to carry some food or snacks along with you. If you are a nature lover, a day trip to this lake will boost your mood like no other. In this sanctuary, you can see many different species of birds such are flamingo, purple swamphen, spoonbill, bulbul, green shrink, heron, sunbird, sandpiper, ibis, peacock, and many more🥳 Thol Lake Bird Sanctuary Entry Fees: The entry fee to visit Thol Lake Bird Sanctuary is Rs. 50 per person. And, if you carry a camera, you need to pay the Camera Fee, which is Rs. 200. And, The car entry charges are a bit high at Rs. 500.🤓 Timings are 6AM to 5.30PM daily.😎 November to February is best month to visit.🤩

It's a good place. Very quiet and cool. Good place to visit and The best time to visit is during the monsoons, when the sanctuary is at its most vibrant. There are many different types of birds to see. There is a lack of cleanliness and maintenance in the sanctuary, and the staff does not seem friendly. If you are a bird-watcher or simply enjoy nature. must visit place if you're in a Gujarat. But the main thing is You've to visit in early morning. After morning 9-10 you'll find nothing over here

So... This is the second time I went here... Just yesterday only (19.11.2020)... Well the 4 wheeler parking does cost 400 Rs.... But I suggest one shouldn't Come here this time. . As the water isn't evaporated yet... So one won't be able to see birds from closer end... Where the birds so stay in centre part of island... Yes.. The place is good to visit... One will hear chirping but when one comes here, one will want to have a closer look to the birds which isn't possible due to not drying of water where one can walk and go nearby...

You can see them by telescope or you have SLR camera with you. They charge for additional camara. Better to go by car inside if you have family with you. There no separate charge for individual if you go by car. Area to roaming around is too less or may be under maintenance. One time visiting is fine.

Thol Bird Sanctuary near Ahmedabad is a paradise for the bird watchers. We started off to this place in the early morning to catch up with the sun rising there. We were in time and the sun had just begun to rise up. This time seems to be the best time to reach here as the nature is at its best . The entry charges levied by the Forest Department, the government of Gujrat is a bit costly with Rs.100/- per person plus vehicle parking charges.

A huge lake with lot of birds. Worth visiting for a walk in nature with sighting of a number of birds, which you see only in zoo. The mornings are misty and you cannot get good photos. Unless you are a pro do not visit for purpose of photography. It is better to take a good quality binoculars and enjoy the moment. You can always come again to enjoy asit is not very far from the city. My experience with Nalsarovar was superior. Both are not comparable. Nalsarovar is good for boating, which is not available at Thol. Thol is good for walk. Though they say it is plastic free you can still see a lot of garbage even used masks.

Natural getaway within reaching distance from hectic and chaotic Ahmedabadi lifestyle. Beautiful lake surrounded by lush green farm fields. Winter the best season to visit always. Early morning 6-8 am is the best time to be there. Only bummer was rs.500 parking fees for your 4 wheelers. (I feel it is way too much for parking fees) And still there is a lot of room for development over there. Overall 4/5

Enjoyed watching so many birds and the sunrise. ☀️🤩 so peaceful amidst the city life. Reach there before 6:30 am. We went on the 16th Feb. Better go this month as I doubt if next month will have many birds. The entry fee for the car was 400rs. (including visitors). Prefer going on weekdays. Weekend fees more. As for the other facilities like refreshments, nothing is there. The toilets are very dirty.

This place is located 25-30 Kms from Ahmedabad. It is a nice place to visit during November for a large variety of birds. You need to pay 50 Rs. Per person and if you take a car, you need to pay 500 minimum as entry ticket. There is one small shop in the camp site where you can have tea and some snacks. It is advisable you take cash and keep change with you because nobody is having change and there is no online payment option available. The destination is 3 Kms inside the main road and nothing is available once you enter the site. If are fond of photography and want to click beautiful snaps of birds, you must visit the place. But the birds can be seen early morning and November month. Enjoy the place...!!!!

There are not much of public transportation available better come by own vehicle. Carry food and drinking water, as there are no shops in the vicinity. It is a absolute place for wildlife enthusiasts, especially who are into birdwatching and photography.

Best picnic/sunrise spot in Ahmedabad during Winter. It's mesmerising to watch the sunrise and listening to the birds sounds. I spotted different species of birds, flamingos, wild rabbit. It's safe for solo travelers. You can also do picnic spot and sit there for hours - Entry starts from 6AM - parking charge is 500 for cars. You can also park your car outside the gate for free.

Absolute delight for bird lovers. Nice pathway around the lake, be ready to walk and watch migratory birds. Binoculars are a must and if you love taking their pictures carry a good SLR camera with zoom. Entry fee is steep for car owner ie 500/- per vehicle. Enough parking space and a good picnic spot. They have small canteen to cater. Early morning winter time is the best for watching migratory birds.

We were late so could not visit whole area. Nice place for bird watching. Better come here in morning hours.. or before 4:30pm. Can view various birds. Even in outside farms also.. worth visiting.. can pass 2-3 hours. Good for photography...

Go just before sunrise. There are variety of birds. Make sure you bring binoculars with you to see the birds swimming in water. Entry charge per car is Rs. 400/-. Carrying food or plastic bottles is not allowed.

It is wonderful place, specially in early morning, to watch birds, enjoy sunrise moments, experience serenity & spend good time with family- friends

A very scenic place Nature lovers.Prefer going early in the morning so that you can see migratory birds and sunrise. If you are one of those early birds who loves nature, cold breeze, serene lake view then this is a perfect place for you. It has a basic entrance fees of Rs 50/- per person. If you wish to take your car inside the chargers are Rs 500 per vehicle, however you can walk as well. Same goes with bike and charges for bike is Rs 200. Also, if you're a photographer and have a professional camera to capture the beauty if this picturesque beauty you have to pay around Rs 200 to 250 to carry your camera. According to local people best time to visit this place is in January end as you can see lot of migratory birds that time. PLEASE NOTE- Timing for this place is 6.30 am to 5.30pm but due to recent Covid 19 pandemic they allow visitors to enter this place for only 2 hrs. Like 6.30 to 8.30 am Also Note - This is not a picnic spot so you'll not get a place to sit, relax, eat or play much.

Nice natural place to visit.I visited into second week of January. Not found too many birds. Place is little bit dirty. Tickets is also costly. I found Vadhavana Bird sanctuary is better than Thol. But from Ahmedabad Thol is near compare to Vadhavana. We entered in Thol almost at 7.30 am and at ticket counter they ask us to leave place at 9.00 am. You can enjoy photography by your phone. For camera you have to pay extra money.

Visited on a weekend. There was such a long waiting queue of cars, waiting to enter inside the premises/ main gate of the lake. Ticket charges were high even for Indian nationals. Even though it was mentioned that it is a plastic free zone, people still litter food wrappers and other stuff. No security check done upon entering. Some people brought their own Bluetooth speakers, which shouldn’t have been allowed to take it into the premises as its high volume disturbs/scares away birds. A great place for a leisurely walk, its a good idea to wear a comfortable footwear, if you like to take walk and explore it. A Great place to visit especially during winters as lot of migratory birds are found here during this time. And do carry your cameras, SLRs & DSLRs if you love capturing nature, because its a beautiful place. Overall serene and a fun place for all age groups.

A very beautiful place. Natural habitat for birds specially migratory birds... Best time to visit as early as possible.... People tend to go right after entering the sanctuary but Don't miss going left side of it.... The left side of the sanctuary lets you walk into the habitat up close for great pictures..

Average experience. Its Must visit in early morning. You can find different species pf birds in winter season. Good for camping-with group. Not preferred for solo if you want to spend time here. Parking rates are too too costly. 500/- inr for single car. 50/- inr per person. Not worth the charges. Need to maintain the place with greenery and some improvements.

  • 5/5 Mann V. 3 years ago on Google
Must visit if you are wildlife enthusiast. It welcomes dozens of birds from different species. Some prominently noticed bird species are Flamingoes and Sarus Crane, which are pretty rare to be found elsewhere. One can also spot animals such as bluebull, striped hyena, wolves, golden jackal and blackbuck, etc. Early morning is considered as the best time to visit the lake for sighting the birds and enjoying a pleasant weather.

Place is for nature lovers. I can spend days here. Sound of beautiful birds, greenery, lake view with morning sunrise & monkeys makes it so natural. 10/10 to place.

  • 4/5 Milan P. 1 year ago on Google
Calm place very near to noisy Ahmedabad. Reach here in early morning immediately after sunrise to have maximum enjoyment. It inhabits 60+ species of birds. This place is center of attraction for bird photography lovers. You will find couples as well having pre-wedding photo shoot due to the iconic beauty of it. But nowadays, this place gets flooded by visitors in weekend. I would advise to visit this place on weekdays. You need to pay 50 rs entry fees per adult. Outside food is not allowed. If you have DSLR camera, you have to pay some additional fees to bring it in. I found the charges little bit impractical.

Nice serene place. You will like it if you are a nature lover. But I guess the authorities should maintain the basic amenities in good shape. Public toilets are without maintenance.

One of the most serene and peaceful place I've been to. The place was next to empty even on a holiday. The trails were well-maintained, and there were several spots specifically designated for bird watching and photography. There were dedicated parking spots and the staff was very friendly. Perfect for a weekend getaway.

Thol lake is bird century. If you're nature lover you like the most this place. But government should have maintained properly. There is very unhygienic place nd too much pulluted water with very bad smell. Best time to visit in winter morning special sunrise time
