I recommend arriving early around 10 or 11 AM, that way you can enjoy watching many of the animals be fed. Catching meal times ensures that the animals are active and you see the interactions with their handlers. There’s a decent amount of parking, and make sure you bring your walking shoes as there’s a fair distance between some of the exhibits. There are even some enclosures that you can walk into any animals roam around you. There’s lots of space for families to spread out and enjoy!

First time visiting, came here after recommended by friends. Had a lovely day out, despite the rain, lots of animals to see including penguins 🐧, Monkeys 🐒, Red Pandas 🐼, snow leopard 🐆 and many more. There was no queues to get into the park and loads is parking available. Animals can be seen clearly, through glass and enclosures, so young children to adults can enjoy the experience. This is an Ideal day out for anyone, babies, children, on your own, couples, elderly, wheelchair users, as there is slopes to make the park more accessible. There is a lot of land and a fair bit of walking to do around the zoo, so bear that in mind, however, there are benches and seats all around. Had lunch in cafe Graze, it's quite small, but plenty of choices of food, from cookies, cakes and muffins, to chip, jacket potatoes or lasagne. There is probably only 10 tables inside the cafe, but there is a large outdoor dining area. All the staff are very friendly from the man who sold me my ticket at the entrance, to the lady who served me in the cafe and wished me a happy new year, to the gentleman who answered my questions in the tropical enclosure. Would definitely go again one day, but not for a while. If your looking to go often, you can upgrade your day ticket to an annual membership. The only thing, I felt let the zoo down, was the lack of toilets.

A friend had said she was disappointed how few animals there were and we agree. The grounds are beautiful and the animals seem well cared for. There were none of the following: elephants, lions, bears, ostriches, kangaroos, wolves. The food prices were very good. Parking is free but the spaces are not marked so people carelessly park anywhere they want. This results in lots of wasted space.

I have visited Marwell Zoo many times over the last 15+ years and have always enjoyed my time here. They have a large selection of animals and have upgraded enclosures and added new ones over the last few years. The Tropical House and the aviary are currently closed due to the avian flu so you won't be able to see the birds that fly here or the sloths. The restaurant serves lovely food with large portions, although on pricey as to be expected at these types of attractions. The staff are always polite and helpful and the zoo keepers take great care of the animals. Would highly recommend to anyone interested in wildlife.

Fantastic day out for families. I had not been in 30 years and I have to say that some of the place looked a bit tired and some of the old enclosures have been left to rot but what they do have is a fantastic range of very healthy looking animals. The range of animals from Tigers to monkeys, birds and a big hit if a red panda, is just right and the ability to see the animals as you walk around is just right. It's a good few hours of walking with a land train that lets you see the whole thing of you want. There are lots of picnic spots, and play parks dotted around. Kids that normally moan after a few hours were well entertained.

Incredible, sunny day at the zoo. Started the journey and got on the M3. Clear signage to go to the place. Lots of parking spaces. Prices as shown in pictures, paid on the day (so not sure if its more affordable online). Great open spaces for the animals. Fairly clean throughout. Many kiosks, a restaurant and cafes. We enjoyed the day so much and took amazing photos. A place that I highly recommend for an entire day to have time to see as much.

The 1st half of the park was good, but a lot of the second half is very overgrown also some of the cages have so much vegetation in them, unless the animals are near the front of the cage you can't see anything. I've been here lots of times over the past 20 years and always loved it so was a little disappointed. I understand Covid has probably had a big effect, but a little TLC and a petting area would really make a difference to encourage people to come back again.

Always great fun for everyone. Will disagree with previous reviews that there was no animals. We managed to see most of them. We actually had a nice meal in the zoo canteen. To compare to another this to type of places ( mainly theme parks) food was very tasty and reasonably priced. Also, the ice cream by the playground was awesome. Clean toilets all around the park. Free parking.

25th.09.2020 I visited the Adelaide Zoo The weather was slightly cold, cloudy and after walking around to visit each of the enclosures, started to rain. Don’t forget your rain jacket on a day like this. The Animals were amazing. They appeared happy, well fed and they were all in deluxe enclosures keeping them happy. Plenty to see. Well worth the visit

Really nice day out; reasonably priced tickets although hot food was a little pricy (but nice and served hot). We chose to eat around 1130 and so glad we did. On a cold day it seems that tables are at a premium. We are outside which was fine on one of the covered benches. Animals were mostly around and some keepers on hand to answer questions which was really informative. Highlights for us were a standoff between two white rhino (huffing, puffing, and charging), the giraffes (just being themselves), and a sloth going for a high wire adventure in the tropical house.

Superb. Clean with plenty of space, even on a busy summer holiday day out with kids. There is ample parking and people on hand when it opens to ensure visitors park quickly and safely. There was plenty of space to see all the animals. Obviously being a zoo, the animals are always wanting to be out in the outside enclosure, but you still see loads. There was a bit of a queue for the tropical house, but it was worth it. The gift shop is a little expensive, but as you know the profits are going back to the zoo and looking after the animals, you don't mind too much. The food isn't super expensive, but also not cheap. It is, however, very tasty. There are also two children who will vouch for the yummy ice creams. A little disappointed that the train wasn't on when we got there, but it didn't detract from a great day out.

Absolutely blown away with the place! Managed to get some beautiful photos of the animals there, abd we were pleased to see that they are so well cared for. You can really see that the keepers are trying their best to make each animals enclosure as close to their natural habitat as possible. Lots of open spaces and walking around which was nice, and lots of different variety of parks for the children. I would definitely recommend this as a place to visit if you are in the vicinity, or for a day out as we did from the Isle of Wight. Beautiful place and a great attraction. We liked that the price was so good also!

We really enjoyed our visit. The giraffe paddock is nice to be able to look at the giraffes from different view points. Unfortunately a very long queue for restaurants, it wasn’t particularly busy and on the day and it took us 25 minutes to order food. I will deffo bring a homemade snack next time. Overall good experience, highly recommend.

Had a lovely time with my wife and new born daughter 🥰 lots of new animals to go see! We upgraded our tickets to the season pass as well be back quite a few times now! Extremely clean and tidy, cafés are all open, a few places are being upgraded but still OK to see them😀disabled friendly, loads of space, and bring the kids they'll be mesmerised! 😂 5*

Came today for a school trip again. Really enjoyed it. Loved the extra surprises of a lego dinosaur trail. We were so lucky to have see so many of the animals up close today. Zoo layout is fab, so many toilets facilities o site is great when there are so many people around. Lots of areas to sit and have a picnic. The friendly staff are always so willing to answer questions. The free water stations are so hand.

Lovely zoo and a great day out for the family. Loved the animals especially the red pandas and the giraffes as they are both so cute. Best spot was the tropical house and we spent a while in there as it was awesome. Quite pricey to get in but knowing that money will be helping conservation efforts, I guess makes it worth it. The train is not worth going on as the best thing you will really see is the back of the gift shop as the animals are too far away too see from it. Overall nice place place to have a day out and see some beautiful animals.

It was fun day. My 3 years old enjoyed. There were plenty of hand sensitisers, toilets were being cleaned frequently, 2m distance and one way system in place. It seemed well organized and followed the guidelines in this Covid time. Supersized creatures were the attraction, unfortunately couldn't see as many animals as I was expecting. Staffs were helpful and friendly apart from a rude lady at the gate who was telling people where to go.

Absolutely fantastic place to kill a day😁. Not much activities offered by the zoo but vast area to cover. This place is specially dedicated to Lemurs. Lots of animals to see and if you are lucky, you will see snow leopard and tigers. The staffs and management at the moment (post Covid before second wave!). They have maintained the distance. Hand washes everywhere and the toilets too. They have drinking water taps at different places. Several eateries with takeaway facility. They have lots of animal themed Lego structures at different places. Makes the place colourful. You will enjoy the visit. Only problem is no properly marked parking space. But dont worry, go to the extreme end and you will find one.😊😁

Brilliant day out. Weather was perfect not to hot and not raining, so you actually enjoyed the very long walk around. Toilet cabins were made available with staff on hand making sure social distancing wasn't an issue. The park has one way paw prints so we knew where to go. Not all the animals were open, and some decided to sleep inside. But the ones we did see were gorgeous. We took a picnic, but cabins were around for ice cream and drinks. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The price I think was very good value, as it was a whole day out.

Booking: In their website you have to book quite early but they only allow you to book your day only about 4 days prior. You have to wear your mask in busy areas or when going inside. Parking: there’s a large space of parking so don’t worry much about it. Variety of animals: although it may seem that they have many animals, some animals didn’t show maybe they were hidden or simply weren’t there. But there was a quite good range of animals you can see. Food: there was a cafe but was quite busy so I would probably suggest your bring your own food, other little food shops had a long line of people they sold ice cream coffee and drinks so make sure you bring food for the children. Overall, the zoo was quite nice and spacious I would strongly recommend it.

Wow an amazing day with my 2 children & baby granddaughter, late birthday present to me. Had to pick the hottest day of the year. Great walking round seeing all the amazing animals, certainly has changed over the years. The staff have done a fantastic job keeping it going through the horrendous time over the past 16 months. Will certainly be back soon

Wonderful day out for kids, they all enjoyed. We’ve stayed at Marwell Hotel overnight. Just 2-3 minutes walk to the zoo entrance after a nice breakfast and in front of the queue. It makes the zoo visit stress free.

Came here during Easter; great day visiting animals, learning more about different species, very relaxing. Stayed overnight in the Marwell Hotel just opposite the main entrance, once all the zoo visitors are gone this area is so quiet, lovely escape from always busy and noisy London. You can come here by public transport, there is M1 bus from Eastleigh station (10min) or you can take the same bus departing from Southampton. There are 2 or 3 cafes on site and during my visit there was BBQ stand.

This place is an experience! We arrived there at 12 o’clock on a cold and rainy day, however that didn’t stop us from exploring. Whilst all the animals were in due to the weather, we could still see them, however because we got lost in moment we didn’t have time to go all the way round and see everything, but I can happily say we saw more than enough. The place is huge and every other minute there is something to see. Please take your kids here and allow yourself at least 5 hours to see everything, we only had about 3 hours and we now regret not seeing everything. My son was enchanted seeing all the animals and as I said, not even the rain could have stopped him. The staff was amazing and we were surprised to see we caught the cafe staff playing find the elf. Was nice to see the friendship between them and I have nothing but praise words and appreciation for them. The cafe is cute and has a great selection of hot and cold foods and drinks at good prices. Price - experience ratio is high and would definitely visit again.

Had a lovely day at Marwell zoo. They showed lots of different animals being fed. It wasn’t busy there which was great as I don’t like going to places that are too crowded. Lots of animals there to see and it’s very clean. Wheelchair accessibility is great. We had no issues using our own wheelchair. But they also have wheelchairs that you be an borrow if you need. Free drinking water is available around the park but you’ll need to bring a water bottle. Highly recommend visiting this zoo

Our experience was great (males in 21,22, and 22). A big area with a lot of different areas, animals, terrains, and enclosures. Really liked the exotic area, quite hot, though. Will definitely recommend this if you wanna go to a zoo that is not too pricy and is close to Southampton/Bournemouth/Portsmouth. Used about 3 hours there.

Wonderful zoo. Spread over a lovely country estate. The owners have obviously given great thought to the enclosures and most are huge, bigger than many other zoos. I did some reviews that you don't get to see the animals. This is easily resolved here as most enclosures have more than one viewing point and we went back to some enclosures again on our way out and saw the ones who were asleep etc on our first try. Remember these are living creatures with a routine of their own not "performers" in our "play"

Really great experience we have been many times although lately there seem to be fewer animals and more empty enclosures. Many enclosures are a bit overgrown and staff are few and far between but they are still really friendly and knowledgeable. Maybe a bit overpriced but still good fun

Marwell is my local wildlife park, I have been regularly going for most of my life because I support their breeding programs. I have given a lower rating this time because I was disappointed at how much the level of animal species has dropped in the time since my last visit in 2018 :-( I really hope that this is just a Covid impact and that they get back to their original standard soon.

4 wonderful hours spent here today, for what I believe was a very reasonable amount of money. All the animals looks happy & content in there large enclosures, never saw any pacing back & forth. Zoo was clean & tidy without litter lying around, toilet's plentiful & clean. Nice areas for children to play in. Will return. Highly recommend.

Haven't been there for a while but we went back and spent a excellent day there. They've been working on changing some of the exhibits and are really working hard on the animals welfare and well-being. It's a good walk around, slowly as some of the park is on slight inclines. Lots of animals, good places to get drinks and snacks. Definitely need a new café/restaurant though as it only has the one which is small. Still worth the visit and annual pass is around 2.25 cost of day ticket, so good value.

Always a pleasure to go to Marwell although I feel there is too much wire fencing and some animals still don't have enough space. I am not sure how I feel about some of the larger animals being held in such small areas. I understand however that they are well cared for.

Marwell Zoo is a brilliant day out, I’ve been visiting for years and it’s amazing the conservation work that they do for all animals but especially endangered animals. There’s a lot of great animals to see my highlights are the red panda ‘Tashi’, the snow leopards, the Amur tigers and the clouded leopards, (if you can spot them)! Throughout the zoo, the enclosures are spacious and well thought out for the habitat they need. We always love visiting, the membership is really good value too. The zoo is easy to get to and accessible for everyone. Still yet to see the sloth properly but we keep trying!

Beautiful place for a family day out. Great social distancing measures in place with some face covering areas throughout. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the animals with plenty of fun facts to share. There's an indoor picnic area where you needn't wear a face mask, which was very useful as we went on a rainy day. Would definitely recommend.

A brilliant day out here. Tickets had to be prebooked though. We were given a free map from staff at the entrance which was helpful and used this to navigate throughout the zoo. Returned here as my daughter has always loved it, this time I had to use a wheelchair that I hired - this place is not wheelchair friendly at all! You need to have someone push you as you cannot self propel yourself up hill and they don't have any motorised scooters to rent (which would be my recommendation!) Some of the paths are loose stones and dirt so difficult to manoeuvre. There are huge pot holes to which I was nearly tipped out of the chair! The monkey exhibit you cannot finish in a wheelchair as it ends up in some gardens with gravel stones! So for the wheelchair experience point of view I'd give it 1 star. The zoo does need some improvement but because of the lockdowns hasn't had the money coming in which is a shame. Some of the areas need more animals as they seemed quite sparse but again this is probably due to funding. They should try to get investors instead of charging people more to enter. Still a good half day out for younger children, but lots to improve on.

Visited Marwell again after roughly 10 years and it lived up to expectations! Me and my fiancé spent a few hours visiting every part of the zoo and was pleased to see so many different animals. I think that this zoo has become very tired and is in serious need of an update! Such a waste of what’s a massive space. Not a great deal here in reality, empty cages, when it could be amazing if they used the space they waste on more animals. It’s not a cheap zoo to come to so not really worth a visit if there’s not much to see. Revamp time I think.

Bit disappointed with this site. We have come before and decided to come back whilst in the area on holiday. We pre booked our tickets and turned up on a bit of a miserable day. It started of a bit windy and damp but the rain came in later in the afternoon (likely we had left by then) we found most of the animals were no where to be seen and what appeared to be lots of empty paddocks. I know some animals would have preferred to stay in on a miserable day but most of the pens don't have a way of seeing the animals when they are inside which is a shame especially with the British weather. I'm sure we were able to see alot more the last time we came. It is early in the year so maybe things will improve.

Have been many times over the years. Had a great day out with the kids and really enjoyed seeing the animals. Still get the smiles and enjoyment as they try and spot the animals before we do. Lovely play areas where they can go and let off a bit of steam. Its starting to look a little old and tired in places with a few empty cages and areas. I am sure Covid did not help in regards to this. Hope that more animals are added in the near future. Despite this we will be returning again

This is the main local animal park in the area, so it caters for the big parties, school kids etc. We visited 12 years ago and it seems to have gone downhill since then. The lovely miniature steam railway had been replaced by a diesel road train, the house was closed (art exhibition last time we came), there was a smaller variety of animals and some exhibits (penguins) were closed. The parking was also a bit rough and not great for larger modern cars. Many animals were hard to spot; like going to a theatre and looking at the scenery without seeing the play. If I hadn't brought a telephoto lens, I would only have enjoyed many animals from a distance. There were plenty of zebras, however. So if you like zebras you will not be disappointed. That said, there was plenty to see and a good selection of food stalls, cafés and obligatory gift shop

I visited here today (On a Monday), it’s a fair size to get around and the enclosures are big too, however I didn’t feel like there was a variety of animals like other zoos I’ve visited, however don’t let that spoil your trip if you decide to go. Reasonable prices and plenty of parking, once inside you can either walk round or jump on the road train, it’s wheelchair accessible and plenty of places to have a picnic if need be, I went into the canteen and bought a meal. £11.95 for a main meal no drinks included but for extra you can have a drink, I think a can of cola was about £2.25.

I've been before and thought it would be a great day out whilst having the option to continue social distancing. There are some places that have got social distancing right and Marwell is one of them. Queues at the front gate were well managed (though we didn't experience much of a queue), which was a good sign. There was plenty of hand sanitizer on offer, and people were very good about masking up where needed. Queues were well managed by staff and I felt very comfortable at all times. There's also plenty of outdoor space available, and the staff seemed very keen to ensure a safe space for everyone. Is it a strange time? Yes. Has Marwell done their best to ensure their visitors have a great time whilst keeping the Covid 19 impact to a minimum? Yes. I don't want to seem too obsessed with Covid 19, but that's where we are for the moment at least. You obviously have to pre-book which is fine. I'd personally recommend arriving later as there will be fewer people (3pm was very nice fyi), but it was absolutely fine when we arrived at 11am as well. Overall another great visit and I hope to be back soon. Keep up the great work to the staff at Marwell, you've got this 👍

Very well done Marwell. You've done absolutely brilliantly at protecting your guests, staff and animals. Lots of great COVID-19 procedures in place. We visited on the wettest day this summer and your staff were great and continued to be cheerful. We loved our visit. In fact, liked it so much we are considering a membership.

Marwell zoo is an amazing place to go with family. No matter how old you are there is things for you. They have a few free water refill stations dotted around and I would recommend taking a Camara. There is so much to see and do. I personally like the snow leopards the best.

Well kept, with enough parking. Most animals well looked after. On the downside, thought there were too many people allowed in to easily maintain social distancing. Some animals like the big cats didn't seem to have enough space.

A very pleasant visit. Managed to book a last minute visit whilst in the area. Despite the rain, it didn't dampen our experience. Saw all but one of the animals and the time just seemed to slip away. If I am ever back in the area and with members of the family I will treat them to a day here.

I am really annoyed and frustrated with Marwell. We booked up in advance and went on down today, with the hour we were back in the car, freezing and soaked. There was no where to stop where it was warm, no where for a cuppa, no where just to shield from the rain when it got worst. I understand that covid has made these things hard but we had a wheelchair (which wasn't easy on the bump, stoney irregular path) and the person in the wheel chair was so cold, (even though he had 2 jumper, a coat and a waterproof coat on and a blanket) that he couldn't stop shaking a d was turning blue. I had to take him home. I spoke to someone and say that £66 for a hour out was very expensive and could I get something back, even just to use our tickets tomorrow or anything. Was told no, I should of forecast the weather better and there nothing she can do. Which I don't think was fair. Can you go if your disabled? No you can not. There was also no disabled loos which was annoying. I'm not going back and have two upset children and tbh I'm also upset about our rubbish day out. Thank you Marwell

Amazing place. So much to see and lots to learn about. Good walks round the park. Little train ride is good (check availability before you go to avoid disappointment). Tractor train also operates to take you round the park, or to pick up and drop off at various places round the park if you are tired of walking. Animals are well kept and have plenty of space...which can sometimes make them hard to spot....but that's half the fun. Massive savings on annual passes. Book tickets in advance guarantees you entrance when busy. Plenty of parking and I believe the whole park is wheelchair and pushchair friendly. Team are very knowledgeable and friendly. Happy to answer any questions you may have. Some play parks dotted around. A lovely cafe and some seated picnic areas, covered and uncovered. Great day for all the family.

  • 1/5 Gareth S. 3 years ago on Google
Email me at 21:00 saying my tickets have been cancelled for the next day. Now I check my emails often, but why would I at this time of night! I can only imagine that I wasn't the only disappointed person that turned up with a child that wasn't informed in good time. A two-hour drive with a 21-month-old child to find out once we arrived that you had closed. To add insult to injury on the email you also are asked if you would like to donate your tickets, but nothing about a refund just an opportunity to move dates if you would like once they reopen.

Website front page did not say anything about ‘online pre bookings only’ that we were told at the kiosk, then one of the staff gracefully allowed us to go in stating “ah, we will let you in on this occasion” as if we were desperate to part with the heavy entrance fee of over £50 and did not envisage the day without the trip to the zoo; as she was doing us a favour. We did not ask for favours but it would be nice to feel welcomed, the least we would expect, which didn’t happen on this occasion. Prior to that we were stopped and told that no scooters are allowed, despite we had a lead on it as it was a way for a toddler to be driven around, but we were firmly denied scooter access given the reason that some parts of the roads were too bumpy and there were accidents in the past... having walked around the zoo again (it wasn’t our first visit but we will make it our last one) there were no public paths fitting that description; to add, surely it would be parental responsibility and not that of Marwell, with a brief disclaimer they could have avoided issues, just like we were offered to leave the scooter at our own risk we should have been allowed to carry it in at our risk too. We, of course, ended up having to carry the child around. I went back to the website to only been able to find mention of ‘no scooters’ and ‘online bookings only’ only if you put key words in the search bar, which in turn brings up search results from their FAQs page, should this not be at the forefront of the website and feature on the home landing page? It at least have a wording banner and a link to important things to note prior visiting. The website also did not mention the utter limitations of the wildlife sightseeing apart from indoor enclosures being unavailable. It features summery images of a vibrant wildlife centre, which couldn’t look more different this morning. I understand that no one can guarantee the animals being out at certain times nor wishes to advertise empty enclosures as this would be off putting to visitors, but surely there could be some things put in place in light of the current limitations, for example guidance on animals feeding times, which would encourage them to appear, for example; I am certain those working with animals and knowing their behavior could come up with a few suggestions that would turn the visit from what feels like a very expensive outdoor walk into something more inviting and engaging for children. The stationary trains looked abandoned and they could have been dressed in Christmas lighting and Santa / reindeer figures to make them a feature rather than a dysfunctional machinery that children would find upsetting as it would be one of the things they would be looking forward to, essentially turning the place in a bit of a winter wonderland to substitute for the the sightseeing deficit. Also, we had to guess about all these attractions being unavailable, a lot of guessing today. Signs for the shop... Is there a need to display a sign for the shop which has a huge ‘Closed’ sign on its front? Again, keeping the light on and maybe trying to advertise some items that can be purchased online so it doesn’t look abandoned and still invites people to purchase when they come home? The Lego figures are nice for children to look at, so there are clearly things that can be done to brighten the place up. Partner with Science Museum in London and create solar powered animal figures that move or hydro etc, they have plenty of robotics ideas that could be both educational and entertaining, Winchester Science Centre is also nearby and has plenty of idea potential, I am sure there are many art university students that could help with creating themed art work for the centre, the potential to turn in into a huge local attraction is there. Surely more sponsors can be involved in what is a very good cause. Overall it left us feel that there was no effort made to make it attractive or inviting in current most difficult climate, more like ‘take it or leave it’ attitude.

A playarea with some animals about, honestly a stretch calling it a zoo. Social distancing notices are in place and hand sanitizer is around but it's not being followed or being enforced. I'm shocked that after the announcement of 'rule of 6' you can still have a school visit with no social distancing, they were all crowed in together, about 50 of them. This made it difficult to navigate the zoo without being near someone. Today it was overcrowded and not safe, the highlight of our visit was sitting down and having an ice-cream. If you are taking you child out to play, this is the place for you. But if you want to see and learn about animals, like you would at a zoo, give this one a pass. Most interesting feature of the 'zoo' was Lego models of animals but that doesn't make up for the lack of live ones. We left after an hour, not the day out we were expecting.

It pains me to say it, but the zoo has gone downhill from when I was young. There used to be elephant, rhino, bears x3, jaguar, chimps, and a whole row of large african animals that all seem to have been shipped off elsewhere now. Yes, I realise understanding of how best to manage animals in captivity has changed. The pandas have taken up a huge area that was previously used for multiple enclosures, as has the playground and new entrance. As a result there are numerous dead ends when walking around, that previously didn't exist. There are some great relatively new exhibits such as the siamang island, tiger enclosure and orang-utans.

"MARWELL CONSERVATION WILDLIFE ZOO".. It was a fair distance to travel from 'TORBAY', but worth it.. The weather was lovely when I visited, the photographs were fantastic, thanks to the ANIMALS.. Captured some great photographs of the 'SNOW LEOPARDS, GIRAFFES".. A "CONSERVATION WILDLIFE PARK" that gives you the opportunity to see many species of animals that are assisted by the ongoing "CONSERVATION PROJECTS" funded by "MARWELL".. It is now more important than ever to realise just how valuable these animals are to our life on EARTH.. "MARWELL CONSERVATION WILDLIFE ZOO"..

Great Zoo with plenty of space for the animals to roam freely. Easy to either walk or drive with lots of maps/sign posts making it easy to navigate your way around. The train is great in the summer months, but still lots to see during the colder months of the year. Great day out for all.

We are members so this review is based on quite a few visits... Pros: *Animals have lots of space, they seem happy and you can have some magical close encounters (as long as you go off peak) *Lots of lovely open space for picnicking plus a heated area under cover *Indoor attractions (normal times) are great for bad weather * Remote ordering in main restaurant works very well Cons: *Really hard to navigate, most of the paths aren't marked and you can end up walking a LONG way! *The demo sessions are only on the board at the entrance so unless you take a picture you have no idea what's happening when. *To get from the tiger area to the playground you HAVE to cross on a step bridge, if you have a buggy you are scuppered! *The railway, buses and top restaurant have never been open on the many times we've visited (including before covid) 🤔

This zoo is absolutely enormous (largest in the UK) so expect a fair bit of walking - we did about 7k and covered most of the park. During Covid expect queues for some of the animals. Lots of young kids on scooters - not sure if they provide them or just everybody was bringing their own. Animals get a lot of space in big open fields, but also often means you may not be able to get very close to the animals.

  • 5/5 FT K. 3 years ago on Google
Brilliant. The 7 year old niece absolutely loves the place. Very educational and leads of things to do - including a fabulous train ride. Above all though, are the animals. Plenty of them, easy to see and looked well looked after. In truth I'd rather see animals in the wild (only) but Whipsnade appears to have found a (humane) balance. All he animals looked in good nick and well cared for.

I took my son here for the day, we arrived at opening time and it took us nearly until closing time to walk all the way around. We saw nearly all of the animals (some were hiding). I thought the zoo were very good at making sure that everyone was staying socially distant in the enclosed areas and making sure people wore their masks. There was lots of hand sanitizer stations available around the zoo. It felt very safe. A great day out, i would highly recommend it

Love coming to this zoo. Big, wide open spaces. Great for a day out and walk in the fresh air whatever the weather. If you enjoy photography this place is superb with the large animal enclosures and surrounding countryside. Free parking as well which in today’s age of charging for everything is very welcome. Would be good to see incentives for EV cars being allowed in to the zoo without paying extra or at the least at a discounted rate.

Great for a bit of exercise too as there's acres to walk around or you can use various types of transport on offer.

Rather muddy so go prepared. Absolutely brilliant day. Animals were rather distant due to conditions but facilities were coping well and I must compliment them on the very clean rest rooms.

Another fabulous trip to ZSL Whipsnade today! The staff are really going above and beyond to help people move around the zoo safely. Hand sanitising stations are everywhere you need them to be and the very friendly staff help control how many people are going in and out of indoor spaces. Everything looks really clean and well maintained including the animal enclosures. Can’t wait to go back!

Amazing Zoo. Every easy to social distance. Highly recommend going over the covid festive period. They really need to do something about the speed of people driving round the zoo though. Twice we nearly got run over because people broke the speed limit, made worse with young excited children running around.

Amazing day! Thank you to whipsnade zoo for this day during hard times. Still plenty to see even during this time and makes a perfect picnic spot to while there

We had a very wet day here but still managed to have a good look around. There were not many places to find shelter from the weather and queues were very long to get into cafes and butterfly house due to Covid19 restrictions. We had boots and trainers on but really could have done with our wellies! We made the best of the unpredictable British weather but it would have been a nicer experience and more enjoyable on a dry day. This is a full day out if you want to try and see it all, the place is huge, you will be walking lots so sensible footwear is a must. It will be nice to go back again with less restrictions, hopefully when the sun is shining and play areas are open 😊

  • 3/5 EZAM U. 3 years ago on Google
It is a massive zoo.very spread out. However there were not many animals. Since each area for specific animals are so big, it was hard to spot them and they were too far away. We were thinking of buying annual pass but don't think we will be revisiting.

  • 4/5 Zo S. 3 years ago on Google
Whipsnade is a huge place, I don't think its possible to see everything in one day especially if you have children with you. The enclosures are great and there was so many animals to see, it was a good day out! The only bad point is it was rather busy and crowded so it was hard to social distance and there wasn't many sanitiser stations around.

  • 5/5 Jocelyn D. 3 years ago on Google
We went prior to lockdown and although some of the indoor displays and talk shows were not available, we still had a wonderful time and saw some incredible animals. The staff were great too and the views were something else!

  • 4/5 Rashmi B N. 3 years ago on Google
Lovely zoo, grounds are maintained nicely and clean. Animal enclosures also look well maintained. Four stars because the space allocated for animals is not very big, it will be so much better if they could increase the space allocated for animal enclosures, feels sad to see these lovely furry beings kept in small enclosures (especially the big cats and giraffes, elephants).

An excellent day out, the residents look well cared for & have a good amount of space. The current pandemic restrictions caused a few annoyances, but that's not ZSL's fault. A great destination for a family day out or even just for a couple. Worth taking the car in for £12.50 (winter rate from beginning of November) a bit steep at £25.00 for the summer rate, but it is a charitable venture so it's a way of raising funds without making the ticket prices too high for everyone.

This zoo was amazing! My family I really had a great experience. We went during covid 19, the lines were busy and it actually felt normal apart from the 2 metres apart and wearing face masks. The staff were friendly and people we who visited were ok...apart from one lady I asked if she could take a pic she nodded her head to say no as if I was the human covid plague😂. Other then this we had a wonderful time! Definitely do visit this zoo x

A very lovely place. The animals seemed content, staff were very friendly and facilities clean and tidy. The grounds were really nice, spaced out and not on top of eachother regarding the animal enclosures.

Great zoo. Animals seemed happy and healthily, loads of space for them. Wide variety of creatures to see. Tiger came up to the glass and flopped in front of us like a house cat! 😁 Recommend hitting the food area at 12 or so and going for the barbecue (vegetarian options available). Great burger and only a fiver, and also a very short queue. Really enjoyed it, highly recommended!

Me and my children came here a few days ago, and it was amazing, we loved all the animals, the tropical house was lovely, we saw the wallabies and the kids were so entertained for the whole day. It really was a day to remember. But you do need a full day here as their is so much to see and do. It really is worth coming here.

  • 5/5 Josh E. 2 years ago on Google
Well worth a trip. We went the day before 'Storm Eunice' so looked like a few of the animals had been moved indoors but even then we still had a great time. One of the best things is the animals have large enough enclousers so they have plenty of room to move but you still have no problems seeing them and getting your money's worth. Highly recommended.

  • 5/5 Melissa B. 1 year ago on Google
My husband and I took the children on the bank holiday Friday, booked tickets online which is what the zoo require. Staff greeted us at the entrance and kept the steady stream of people moving through the gates and showing their tickets. Lots of places to enjoy a picnic or there's places to purchase food. We all had a really good day out there and got some souvenirs from the gift shop.

  • 5/5 Dawn S. 1 year ago on Google
A wonderful place to visit with all the family! Plenty of benches for a rest, picnic benches to eat, water stations and beautiful views. The animals are amazing with different viewing levels at some enclosures. All the the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable.

This place is fantastic and really good value for money. The site is huge with so many animals to see. The fact that you can return for free within 7 days is even better, though we'd travelled 2 and a half hours to visit so didn't end up re-visiting. If we'd have been closer we'd have gone back for sure. The day we went was absolutely boiling but there are a lot of free water refilling stations dotted about, and the water tasted great, and cold! There are a few food/snack places dotted about and one main large cafe/restaurant that we found. Price wise it was reasonable for such a place and the food was really nice. Much better quality than some attractions like this. We really wanted to see Santos the Sloth (youngest is Sloth crazy) in the dome which simulates a tropical rainforest. We'd seen on some days he climbed down close to guests - we only managed a glimpse of him but even so, that whole rainforest area was fascinating. The staff were really friendly and helpful throughout the site, they'll chat to you as they're passing through and give interesting insight into some of the animals and their behaviour/history etc. We'd definitely return one day, even with the distance from home, you get the chance to be pretty close to some of the animals. Even with the extreme heat we saw lots and many were trying to keep to the shade so on a cooler day who knows what more you could see. If you visit, be prepared to do a lot of walking!! Though there's a land train which can take you places (at an extra charge).

Lovely day spent at Marwell Zoo, weekday and out of school holidays so other than a group of small school kids it was wonderfully quiet. Great facilities with friendly staff and volunteers throughout the park. Loads of animals to see all in spacious enclosures allowing them to roam as free as possible with excellent viewing opportunities. Ticket prices are very reasonable and there is plenty of free parking. We took a picnic but the food places and food on offer looked pretty good. We did grab a latte, which despite being machine made, was great. There were plenty of picnic areas/tables dotted around the park for those who had brought their own food. Gift shop by the entrance/exit was full of the usual gifts and masses of cuddly toys…the prices weren’t crazy which is a bonus! All in all a great day out, highly recommended…

Great day out, especially on a weekday when not heaving with people. Full of a wide range of animals. Recommend going on a cooler day as when I went it was hot and most of the animals were in shelters/hiding. Would come again!

I've been going to Marwell Zoo since I was young and I now I take my own daughters there who love it. In addition to the animals that they love to watch, they enjoy the huge amount of different playgrounds (with eating areas) which are dotted around between the animals. There's more information on their website about the animal than I could give here but it's a great family day out. From start to finish, you'd probably walk about 3 miles and be in the zoo around 3-4 hours.

  • 4/5 Patru D. 10 months ago on Google
This zoo is really nice but I was a bit disappointing to see many animals missing. The enclosed spaces that simulates natural environments like the rainforest and so on were really cool, and the savanna with that drowned car too.

Had the most amazing day with family ranging from 1 yr old to 77 year old, lots of fantastic walks, animals, parks.Large carpark, staff very accommodating and helpful. There is a Train to see all the zoo.Would definitely recommend wearing trainers and taking your own lunch, picnic and drinks. Some hills if you have a pushchair or wheelchair but manageable. Lots of toilets and facilities. Would definitely go again !

Fantastic family day out. I took my 11 year old and 2 year old. We booked online, under 3s are free. Easy to get around and there is a lovely little train. We went and it started to rain so the train ride came in handy it cost 2 pound per person no charge for my 2 year old. Plenty of toilets and places to eat. Gorgeous animals to see we were lucky enough to watch the red panda playing in the tree and say some gorgeous birds in the open aviary and there is some lovely garden areas and the manor is absolutely gorgeous.

Took my Nephew here last Sunday we arrived 10am for it opening. Still quite a few people waiting. We had pre-booked tickets which helped. It was lovely. Most animals out and about Nephew was disappointed he couldn't see the Red Pandas (due to not having any at the moment). And the Pigmy Hippos. Saw from a distance but couldn't get to the inclosure.

Beautiful Zoo, good variety of animals and some big cats. Their recent new addition Tashi the Red Panda is a beautiful and I’m sure will attract big crowds. I have a annual membership so will be spending a lot of time here.

We had a lovely day here, with 4 children aged 2 -9 yrs. Lovely walk around, it's all set in lovely woodland and well kept open spaces. The staff were so friendly, and the lady in the tropical house with the sloth was so kind and knowledgeable, I wish I had got her name as she was wonderful! We saw lots of animals, particular highlights were the mongoose, all my children found them hilarious, and they were so active and as inquisitive of us as we were of them! Was also wonderful to see a sloth so close up! Would've given 5⭐️ but we felt it needed more directional signage, kept getting lost navigating our way round and nearly missed a huge section completely. The children's play areas were fantastic! Also we thought the price was quite reasonable, although we did use kids pass to get a small discount.

Definitely pre book tickets as saves time. Is a wonderful and amazing experience to see many different animals. I love that they are expanding as well. Is an net zero zoo as well. We've been lots of times this year with the annual membership (highly recommend) and went to the Marwell Glow day before Christmas and it was lovely! We didn't see Santa as there was a 2hr queue, but it's not what we went for in all fairness.

Went recently with the 30 day return ticket, had a wonderful time, been again and hoping to go again before our tickets expire. Friendly staff, clean facilities and areas to eat your own food or buy from the eateries. I hadn't been there since I was a Child so nice to share this with my Son.
