Went during the very popular "Glow in the Park" event. They did a great job at having everything setup and managing the crowds. It might be a "zoo" but it has more of an animal sanctuary type feel with lots of large open spaces. Still we were able to see all the wildlife and was much closer to a cheetah and hyena then I'd ever been before. It's not that big and you can easily see everything in a few hours and not feel rushed. They also do a good job of keeping the walkways shaded. Aside from that the staff was friendly, the paths and eating areas were immaculate and very well maintained. Despite it being crowded there were no lines to enter, plenty of parking, and the lines to get food were short as well. Well worth visiting. Get there when they open to beat the heat and you won't be disappointed.

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens is amazing. We went in at opening when animals where active. Once we entered, the zoo volunteer/greeters were very nice and proactive in providing information about the park. Kids really enjoy feeding the giraffes, petting coral and animal encounter shows. Place is big enough for kids to explorer for a few hours. Animal enclosures were open and laid out right. Made you feel physically close. The gentleman/docent by the mountain lions was super friendly and patience with my kids question. Free parking. Friendly staff. Zoo grounds and restrooms are very clean. Food /drinks price are reasonable price for a non profit. Cool G-scale model train exhibit where you can enjoy with coffee. Zoo is a great family attraction when you are in the Palm Springs area.

Great destination for kids !! They get to see the animals roaming freely in their own area ( similar to their natural habitat), instead of cages. The zoo wasn't crowded heavily even during holidays. Enough places to sit and relax if you are tired walking. All walkways are stroller friendly. The giraffe feeding experience closes at 3 PM, so go early if interested. The miniature rail road model is very beautiful.... Nicely designed and maintained !!

I say this place was wonderful. I enjoyed all the exhibits. It was nice to see the animals interact with the keepers. The volunteers were simply lovely to talk to and full of information. Helen and Cindy were the ones we spoke with the most, very nice ladies! I truly will love to return with my grandchildren. The only negative I say is the fact there was NO paper map! I get it, it is the age of technology but trying to bring it up on my phone was too small and annoying to have to use my phone. Plus it used my battery so at the end I almost had a completely dead phone. I would purchase a map for 50 cent or a dollar just to have one!!!

A wonderful visit in March of 2022. I would love to come back to see the lanterns at night! They were still very beautiful and fun in the daylight. The kids all loved them and I think it made it a bit more exciting for them! We went early so all the animals were moving around and eating breakfast. Truly wonderful experience.

We were so impressed with this zoo. All the exhibits seemed large enough for each animal and comparable to their natural habitats. We were super impressed by the desert animals and the Australian exhibits. We were also thrilled to see North American animals as those were all super beautiful. They currently have a mom and baby yellow foot wallaby in exhibit. We saw camels, goats, giraffes, rhinos, and even a lizard in the animal hospital getting a wellness check. This is a great place for families and kids. The train area was also unique. They are refurbishing some areas. Worth the trip for sure.

Nice place to spend day-time with family and friends. Perfect gateway from LA and greater LA. Good way to visit a lot of animals that you don't get to see otherwise. Some animals have ample space and you can experience how they might behave in their natural habitat but for some we felt the space is not enough at all and management should do something about it. Positive- convenient restrooms, drinking water outlets, restaurants , free parking and you can bring own food inside, not much crowded. Negative - some construction going on, food options not that great but pricey, navigation in the zoo is not perfect and maps are not super easy to understand directions.

Our first time visiting this zoo and gardens. It was a great experience for my family. The zoo wasn't crowded at all on this Wednesday we visited and was able to go through the place in less than 3 hours. While we didn't intend to purchase our tickets online, we did because there is a slight discount by purchasing in advance online. Best part feeding the giraffes and the huge miniature train live running display, which we totally did not expect. Staff were friendly and appear very knowledgeable about the animals, often providing insightful hints about the park to make one's experience even better. We would come here again.

We were very lucky to enjoy a private tour with Dave today. Not only did we get to see every exhibit the zoo includes, we also received detailed information about the animals and environments we were witnessing. Dave was an excellent host, providing us a comfortable, safe, and fun experience. He was very attentive to the children in our group and made sure they got a great view of everything. The giraffe feeding was awesome, and it was a nice benefit to cut the line via the private tour. Overall it was a wonderful way to experience everything this very well managed, clean, well-signed zoo had to offer. Thanks Dave and everyone there!

A very nice area. A lot of beautiful landscaping. The animals weren't too active, but I was expecting that. The only thing I would wish for would be a Senior morning. One weekday without trying to walk through hordes of school children would be wonderful .

A well planned animal zoo. Summer is definitely not the best time to go though the zoo has made arrangements to handle hot weather well. Restaurants inside the zoo are well staffed and has a decent menu and of good quality. The fee seems like a premium compared to other zoos but there are carousel and a mini-train area that makes it worth the time and money for kids. PS: The tour on trolleys is not of the full zoo but only of the inside areas and skips the actual attractions that have to be walked through. So read through info before getting on to the zoo tour trolley which is an extra charge.

The living Desert Zoo and Gardens was a great experience! Especially for the little ones looking at all the different animals from all different areas of the world was awesome! From Africa, Asian, North and South American! Garden areas pretty. They have petting goats which was nice. I recommend being a wagon or a stroller if you have kids and bring cold drinks.

I had previously been to the Living Desert many times being desert grown and a desert resident for many years! I have always had an enjoyable time from all of those experiences so I thought it would be nice to treat my toddler and boyfriend to this adventure! We were all so excited to finally get out and do something and this was money and time well spent. For parents: there are restrooms everywhere which helped us because my son is still using pull ups! There are food (dining and snacks) options that are all delicious. There is everything you would need for a day at the zoo available at the stores. Activities are endless. Lots of sites to see. I would recommend going early due to the sun being nice and bright. Lots of sunscreen is required. There are some things I would recommend bringing cash for ease. Feeding the giraffes is a MUST. I would suggest making that your first stop if possible upon entry! Love the staff and everyone is helpful and kind.

It was great visit. So many active animals. Big variety of plants. Well taking care of animals and the place itself. Love that the staff were ready to answer questions even before you ask them. So knowledgeable and helpful. Lots of drinking fountains. A big pleasant surprise was the mini village with different trains, soo cute! I will return

A lot of zoos try to make their exhibits natural looking but I think the Living Desert Zoo really excels here. The animals all seemed to look pretty stress-free. As well, there were lots of helpful volunteers to offer directions and tell us interesting facts about the nearby animals. A zoo definitely worth visiting!

Do not come here! My husband and I were harassed by a male employee while shopping in the gift shop. My husband was asked before stepping into the shop to wear his mask above his nose. He complied. While shopping he was being uncomfortably watched and scolded when his mask slipped beneath his nose again & There was absolutely no one near us. Before leaving the shop my husband took his mask off and he was literally being chased like a criminal while being asked to put his mask on. Personally I think it’s ridiculous that we had to wear our mask for the entire outing and to even be hunted down while we were inches away from the park exit door. If the park took covid THAT serious why still be open to the public? Experiencing exotic wild life is not essential. Freedom just isn’t what it used to be in America. Wake up people. Prices are the same while exhibits and vendors are even closed due to the pandemic.

Nicest zoo I’ve ever visited. All the animals are out. You can feed giraffes which is an awesome activity. The staff are the nicest people ever! So educational. There’s clean bathrooms every turn. Food isn’t too expensive. 10/10 would recommend whether you’re a kid or adult.

This is very beautiful place. The Living Desert is part of a worldwide Zoo species preservation effort. Best time to go would be between October and May. I went in August and if you go in the summertime it is best to get there as early as possible while it is still cool. This is one of those places where you can ask the staff just about anything about any creature there and learn a lot that you didn't know. Lots of shade and plenty of water available for visitors. Good food and snacks and they also carry cold beer. :-) VIP safari-style tours are available. Budget yourself at least half a day if you want to experience it all. If you are in or near the Palm Springs area I strongly suggest visiting this wonderful wildlife preservation facility. Visitors can also tour at certain times their world-renowned wild animal hospital. And they have meerkats. :-) and Kookaburras. :-) and... go find out!

Peaceful in the daytime. The staff and volunteers are extremely nice. I hope all animals are treated well at all times. I normally don't go to zoos only sanctuaries. Shout out to Christina the young lady who works in the refreshment stand that's near the camels and in between the goat petting area. She's very nice and has really great customer service. We tried to tell Chad and David her bosses but we could not find them anywhere at the zoo throughout the time we were there from 1:00 p.m. to closing time. We even came back for the second evening light festival. Give Christina a raise. Extremely overcrowded in the evening. They should definitely have a capacity of how many people can come in. Or they should definitely have some kind of structure when people are taking pictures or people are waiting in line to take photos. It might even be a great idea to implement photographers as well as people being able to take their own pictures. The lantern festival is very pretty but I would never go again to the Palm springs location because the patrons really don't have any manners, (adults and children). People were just walking through when other people are trying to take pictures, not even saying excuse me which was very rude. Also for better pictures and lighting it's probably a good idea to put lights on both sides of any area that has a festival lantern because if there's no lighting on the other side all pictures come out really dark. The only thing you can see is the lantern not really the people in the pictures.

Great zoo! On this visit we really focused on the birds and gardens. The newest aviary is beautiful and I loved it! The little ground hogs were adorable! (I know, not birds) The rhinos were beautiful. What a special place. Pro tip: if you want to use the hiking trails do it early and not in summer! It's too hot and there is very little shade, if any.

We had such a great time here. I loved seeing the desert animals and knowing that they are a non-profit. Everything you buy helps them take care of the animals and supports their efforts in increasing their population. If you can, do the rhino experience (about $50 each). You get to learn about rhinos, their plan, and you can touch and feed one of them! (8am daily, I suggest you pay for it in advance) You can also pay to feed the giraffe(s) ($10 per person, 3 pieces of lettuce, worth it for the close up and to help them with their efforts). This was an on-the-spot decision. Lastly, it will get hot because it's the desert and especially if you're coming in the summer. Be prepared with water, sunblock/screen and whatever else you may need as it takes a bit of time to go around to see all of it.

Love it here. Have been several times, but pics are from the Glow In The Park event in May 2023. An absolutely amazing and beautiful experience. I highly recommend you go. There are lots of things for kids, but we adults loved it too. Go early enough to see some of it in daylight, but the best experience is after dark. Outdoor speakers provide nice music. Paths were lit. Took a couple of hours.

Loved the zoo. It's in Continent sections. Each portion has animals and plants according to the region of the animals that you find there. It was so much fun to see them in their made habitat. A trend takes you around with a guide that tells you about everything or you can walk. It was really hot the day we went 117゚ so we took the tram. There's an animal hospital that's open any time for people to come in and view them as they work on various animals if you like. All animals are taken care of well and most are friendly. The Giraffe ate lettuce of my shoulder with the lead of our guide. It was quite fun. They are adding a rhinoceros portion very soon that will give even more room for many other animals to roam within it too.

Our 4th time coming here. Kids had a great time. Recommend feeding giraffes and camel rides. They have an area where you can pet and brush baby goats!! They have wheelchairs and strollers to rent. Wear shoes and I always bring a backpack with snacks and drinks🤫. I do wish they had better accommodations for their eagles though. There are 2 eagles in a very small glass tank they can not even flap their wings. It saddens me for the eagles. All the other animals looked very happy. Plan on going again.

It's not a big attraction, but you will see beautiful animals that are well kept and cared for in a very natural environment. It makes sense to have desert and Savannah creatures in this locale. We were impressed enough to get an annual pass. I look forward to visiting often.

Omg! What a fun little zoo! All the animals are warm weather critters, so they were all awake and active. I fed a giraffe! I also got up close and personal with a wallaby! It was a fun way to spend an afternoon, and the food was pretty good too!

COVID measures taken. Tickets should be purchased in advance. No animal feeding allowed due to the pandemic. They are building a home for the new rhino exhibit. It was a beautiful day and lots of fun with my niece and nephew! 😍 Not the largest but just as fun as well as interesting. I would go again for my next visit to Palm Springs CA.

Great and fun experience for the whole family. They have Beautiful animals and even a feeding time for the giraffes (we fed them lettuce 🥬, for seven dollars). The babies had a lot of fun, it was a safe and family friendly environment. We went in February so it was not too hot nor cold. They have a new construction going on to bring in Rhinoceros into the zoo. I think it is going to turn out awesome. Had an amazing experience and would recommend others to go as well.

Plenty to look at, for what it is, of course it's not some massive mega zoo but for a moderate sized attraction, it's very nice. Not the most to do for a toddler but that's more of a covid issue. I would certainly bring water and snacks for kids, also expect lots of dirt, the dusty kind. Did everything, at a slow pace, still only spent 2 and 1/2 hours here.

My wife and I visited The Living Desert last Sunday. We loved how the zoo and gardens were separated into Africa, North America, and Australia. The breadth of animals was amazing. I particularly loved seeing the zebras, various cats (mountain lion, cheetah, leopard, etc.), wallabies, wild dogs, bald eagle, giraffes, and many other animals. It was a fantastic walk around the zoo and gardens, and we cannot wait to go back after the construction is done.

We had a decent day. This must be a bad time of year to visit (August 2021). Everything is either closed, not working or being remodeled. Tickets should have been discounted. Fund raiser tip...If you want donations and members, try not to take advantage of visitors or steal from them. We work just as hard for our money as you do.

Drove 100 miles to visit and was NOT disappointed!!!!!! My family enjoyed every moment. Food prices were not expensive for a place like this, the gift shop was also reasonable. A few attractions were under construction but its for expansion which is totally understandable. Recommend to everyone.

True hidden gem. This zoo is amazing in terms of quality and price. Not only they offer wide variety of animals all across the globe from Africa, America, and Australia, the environments for animals are absolutely amazing, and resemble much of their original habitat. Some of the animals can be harder to spot depending on the time of the day, still this place is great for kids and adults alike. Normally takes about 2-3 hours to walk around and tour the whole park for me with the kids, that is without stopping at attractions such as dinosaurs and the mini railroads, etc.

For the price you're paying this place is great. Went during a weekday in November and the park is absolutely empty and all to ourselves. A lot of the really cool exhibits are still being built but what they do have right now is an amazing zoo with some very happy looking well-fed animals. Make sure you go when it's not too hot. You're going to want to go on some of the hikes, trails start inside the zoo and there's a lot of beautiful little gardens in the park. Buying tickets was incredibly easy and done before we even parked the car.

This is a can't-miss attraction in Palm Desert. I've been three times. The new Australia exhibit is awesome especially walking with wallabies. The giraffes never disappoint. Overall the zoo is very nice! A lot of it was under construction, however, it doesn't take away what a great zoo it is! Lots is nice walking/ hiking paths as well! Landscaping is amazing and very Palm Springs! Taking away one star because they need to offer EV/electric Car Charging/ Parking, I came from 2 hours away and needed to find a place to charge off site. Would have been wonderful to have my car charged while we visited the zoo.

We were denied access for my Non-Verbal Autistic son due to masks restrictions. He is not able to were one as it is a trigger and their "rules" are against the current CDC guidelines Update 2/15:. Got a call today after emailing the company leadership. They are going to work on correcting this in the future and invited us back. I was pleased with thier attention to this. Does not excuse what happened but still happy with how they are trying to correct it

It will be my favorite zoo in the US. It has beautiful architecture that fits perfectly with the landscape. Animals, especially, camels, giraffes, and kangaroos very very entertaining. You can feed giraffes, and enter to kangaroo space. So Fun! The gardens are beautiful. We visited during wintertime, and the weather was great and comfortable. There are a few food spots, and my son had no problem of finding something to his taste. We spend there 3+ hours. I want to go again

The best, smaller zoo I have ever went to. I went with my 4-year old and 1-year old. They loved it. This zoo has it all: animals, plant gardens, carousel, kids play area, animal hospital, discovery center, and an amazing miniature train display. An added surprise for me was that the zoo has access to several miles of hiking in the local terrain. My family did a few miles of hiking before returning to the main zoo. This zoo is a must see! The website says to plan 2 to 3 hours here. I think you could easily plan for longer.

This zoo is so neat!!! They have incredible exhibits and the entire setup is enhanced by having the natural untouched mountainous landscape in the background. The enclosures are large and designed well so that you can see almost every animal when you visit their exhibits. The animals all appear well-cared for and healthy. The wallaby enclosure is particularly special because of how close you are to the animals. This is definitely a must-see adventure for anybody in the area. There was no line to enter and there were minimal crowds.

Always one of my favorite places. If you're an animal lover then you can't miss this one of a kind spot for the most amazing desert animals. I used to live here in the desert and it's been 15 years since I've been back and this place hasn't lost its charm. From watching the new rhinos to feeding the giraffes and just enjoying a nice walk while spectating some amazing desert animals, it's easy to enjoy a few hours of exercise while appreciating the beautiful landscape and incredible wildlife. If you love animals, I highly recommend The Living Desert for visitors and locals alike.

Probably the nicest zoo/garden I've ever been to! We had a few friends recommend the Living Desert Zoo & Gardens to us, and we're so glad we checked it out while we were in town! The park itself is immaculate– clean, tidy and doesn't even smell like animals. There are a ton of little garden "hideaway" spots where you can tuck away for some peace & quiet, while enjoying the wonderfully kept botanical gems of the park. There's even a couple hiking trails within the zoo! This is a must-see if you're near the Palm Desert region!

I recommend arriving before 9 am because it gets too hot to enjoy. Some of the animals like to hide in the shade to get away from the heat too. Also, paying $10 to feed the giraffe was worth it. It was a cool experience and created great memories to look back on. There is not much shade here but there are some indoor areas with a.c to help cool you off. Like inside the animal hospital self tour. I could've spent more than 2 hours here if more animals weren't asleep and the sun was beaming.

Great program and layout. Best to come when it’s not as hot as the animals are less active when it is. Only reason it’s 4 instead of 5 stars is the cost. Gatorade is $7 each. I know it’s a good cause but after the entry fee, it starts to get really expensive…

My husband and I were amazed by this zoo and we both grew up visiting the San Diego zoo often throughout our childhood. The environment may be smaller, however, it feels like we are just walking through the animal's natural habitat instead of forcing the animals to live in our created habitat in cages like San Diego's. We could see how much all the workers loved what they do, even a lady who was clipping the plants was telling another lady how much she enjoys doing it. We did the rhino encounter, and, feed the giraffes for my husbands birthday and it was an incredible experience! The animals seemed happy, comfortanle, well taken cared of, and, trusted their care takers. We will happily visit this zoo again with our future kids

It's not a very big zoo. I couldn't find many animals there. It's better to visit another zoo. Also when I visited it was under construction so this could be the reason why I didn't like it much. If you want to visit the zoo on a cart then make sure u book it in advance because that is not allowed if u go book on run time. The only best part was they allow you to feed giraffes 🦒 so if you are interested you can go. They charge for $10/each for members and $20/ for nonmembers.

Absolutely amazing day! While they make way for new friends ( we can't wait to meet the rhinos!) There are adjusted walkways, but everything is well labeled and easy to find! The Australia exhibit is an amazing addition! Also, feeding the giraffe was so much fun!

Had a Wonderful Day @ the Zoo. It is in construction (new Rhino exhibit) and shows are closed due to Covid, enjoyed the Animals, giraffe are my favorite & the weather was great.

Very impressive set of animals. They let you get very close and even walk among the animals in a few spots. Landscaping and backset views are breathtaking.

  • 4/5 D. Andrew G. 3 years ago on Google
Great zoo if you want to get close to the exhibits - arguably one of the better ones I have been to for walking and enjoying each site. However, it gets 4 stars because this facility is NOT Covid-19 compliant in the slightest. They don't enforce rules and there were WAY too many people packed into certain areas. Many of the visitors had zero spatial awareness which worsened the overcrowding effect (choosing to run right up to you for a better view). If you are in a susceptible group for Covid-19, I would NOT visit.

  • 5/5 Sandy F. 3 years ago on Google
Overcast day, perfect as the animals were active. Wide open space to watch the animals, clean. Lots of walking, only about 40 people there. Disappointed we didn't get to see giraffes and the tram wasn't running. But a good day all in all.

This place is a great for families to get close to nature. You get to see the animals up close and you get to walk and walk and walk...! We’ve coming to to the Living Desert Zoo for several years now and it never gets old. A bit different during the pandemic, but still can have a great family time. I highly recommend this place.

For me and my family it is a GREAT place to be with your kids. Amazing live animals! A+ if your kids are interested in trains. They have a huge railroad model with a lot of beautiful scenery details! It is just incredible and very interesting! Highly recommended to have a hat, sunscreen, walking shoes better than sandals, and plenty of water. Then just enjoy as much as you can!

I really enjoyed our walk through the park. However, I think since they do not have any food places open, due to COVID, they could add a few vending machines with sealed snacks for the public. I mean even icecream machines exist, why not? Just a suggestion. There is also lots of exhibits unavailable due to construction! They did enforce the masks which was very nice considering vaccines haven't made it to a lot of people! Overall it was a nice walk for the day!

I love seeing all the different animals and the desert plant life. I had my Walker and I would walk the whole property and then when I left one of the guys on the go-kart that work there because I was told to keep an eye on you to make sure that you got out. I think they were afraid I was tired in my konk out.

Currently half the paths are shut down, no inside exhibits or food. Upside they have touch less entry. Still fun & lots to see. On a normal day tho its SUPER fun & reasonably priced. They have a carousel & a garden (that's open) where the kangaroos aren't even behind a wall or cage. They are litterally right there with you. 😳😍 You can even get within a foot of the giraffes while they are eating.

Went to the zoo today. It is open as long as you mask up while inside. The new Australia area is open. There is a baby Joie that has just started to wonder from mom’s pouch. Great smaller zoo with a train display. All food is closed and there is drink vending machines. Or bring some water bottles to use in the fill up stations. There was not a lot of people there so it was nice. Lots of great animals. Just check the web site for closed attractions.

Went to the Living Desert Zoo and Gardens for my boyfriend's birthday this year. Neither of us had been since we were little, and it sounded like fun. This place is great to visit, my toddler loved it. Our favorite activity was feeding the giraffes. My family went right before Covid shelter-in orders in 2020 and immediately chose to become members. Highlights included feeding the giraffes, the butterfly area, model train section, and expansiveness which reminds me of the world-famous Wild Animal Park near San Diego. This Zoo is certainly worth annual visits, more frequently if we didn't have a long 2-hr drive to get there. Looking forward to our annual pilgrimage!

This zoo and conservation site will let children learn all about natural wonders and wildlife. There are two sections, North America and Africa that provide an up-close look at exotic desert animals and plants. Take pictures of beautiful creatures like the fennec fox, cheetahs, camels, giraffes, jaguars and more. Watch interesting programs from the Tennity Amphitheater and hike along the San Andreas Nature Trail. If you’re particularly adventurous, you can even ride a camel or feed a giraffe by hand. You can get an overview of the whole park on a shuttle ride and then hop on and off as you please.

Great zoo in the desert! You'll see some unique animals here. The habitats are well built and look great. They have a zoo hospital on site which you can observe certain procedures. Zoo docents give talks and a meet n greet with whatever animal is scheduled - we got to hang out with an armadillo. The Australia exhibit allows visitors to walk amongst freakin' wallabies!! How cool and something rarely experienced at other zoos!! Really excited for the black rhino exhibit scheduled to open later in 2021. Hydrate and wear sunscreen, takes about 2-3 hours to see it all.

We have season passes and that's the best way to go, if you're a local .....Even if you're not a local, I would suggest getting the season pass membership because it's the best savings because you get discounts inside the zoo..... At the gift store on the food, at the Merry-Go-Round ... Other parks in different areas you can receive 50% off other zoos just by having the membership to the living Desert so look into that too.... I have a two-year-old and he loves the train area and that's where we spend most of our time... As of recently they installed a Thomas the train so that's really exciting for him because he loves Thomas the train... He talks about going everyday... We are Indio residents but have a season pass and that works out just fine for us wonderful people wonderful environment helpful friendly..... I have more videos than I do actual photo sorry..., I would suggest getting there around 8:00 a.m. because that's when all the animals are pretty active... I wouldn't suggest showing up around 2:00.... Also we can't wait for the new rhino exhibit to open up in November and the koala bees you can walk through if you're there earlier enough and touch him.... SO COOL....

The living desert zoo is worth a trip. Find out when they feed the giraffes 🦒. It was cool to see them come in. When we were there we got to walk with the kangaroos. Unfortunately many of the exhibits were closed or scaled back (mostly due to Covid) but I look forward to returning in December around dusk to enjoy the evening lights which I've heard are beautiful. It was wonderful but freezing cold and a lot of ppl not wearing masks with is their choice so I left early.. But fun lights were awesome and seeing the animals at night was 👍

Best zoo I have ever been to. All enclosures make you feel like you are in the wild. Easy to walk with lots of resting places. Everyone was very friendly. Check out one acre of minature trains on the way out.

Really fun and nice park to see animals living in the desert! You’re so close to the nature with the guidance of the nice staff! We spent almost 4 hours here

Lots of active animals. Some parts were closed due to construction. But everything else you can walk through. They did change a lot from the last time i was here. So couldn't find one animal i really like. They also expanded the little model train section too. Do recommend coming on cooler days because it gets really hot during the summer. During winter time, it is very cool weather

A wonderful way to spend the day. You can feed giraffes, hang out with wallabies and support conservation efforts globally.

We visited during the Christmas Lights, saw the Rhino exhibit, cute little walk through the park and a visit with Santa for the kids. Lovely 😍

Worth a visit. Loved by all ages. As always with zoos, food is expensive, but worth the cost here. Nicely decorated, helpful volunteers, and plenty of places to take breaks. We went in December so it was a little cold. Take the 100 yard walk to see the San Andreas fault. Great views

This is a very nice and clean zoo. Our kids got to pet some animals and feed the giraffes. Each of the exhibits were clean and the animals appeared healthy. You can easily visit everything in this zoo within the day.

The animal exhibits are great, with wonderful volunteers nearby to share interesting information and enthusiasm! There is also an animal hospital. We were delighted to meet the baby giraffe as well as a baby meerkat, and two newly transported rhinos wallaby, jaguar, and others! The gardens feature interesting plants and are nicely displayed. We were pleasantly surprised to also tour an extensive garden railroad with many trains running on the track across trestles and by hand- made buildings.

A beautiful zoo focusing entirely on desert & savannah based animals and reptiles. The exhibits showcase the animals well, which allows for great photo opportunities. We went in the middle of the day and the only downside we found was the lack of shade in the Australian side of the park - the African side was much better for shade.

Thank you volunteers and staff for making us have an enjoyable time. We decided to become members now that we can see the rhinos and there is plenty to see. One of our family's favorite place to go. Becoming a member is so worth it.

A wonderful zoo on an accessible, human scale. The exhibits are beautiful, set against the mountain backdrop. Animals are right up close and personal, without feeling like they are confined or in an unhappy situation. The keeper talk on the black rhinoceros was informative and enjoyably delivered. The Australian pavilion is small, but the wallabys roam freely and a flock of parakeets flies all around you. Overall, a great experience is recommend to anyone.

Great zoo experience - we had a great time from the grandparents down to our two year old. Definitely recommend getting there when they open before the sun gets too hot, but be prepared for some animals to be unavailable early in the morning. Employees were nice and happy to let you listen in to private tours here and there. The zoo is the perfect size for about 3 hours. My only critique was that the first 3 exhibits by the gate were empty early in the morning. I totally get letting the animals have their own routing, but it seems like poor planning to have people walk on past empty enclosures as soon as they enter.

One of the best zoos we visited. Real hidden gem. Every enclosure was customized to animal's needs but at the same time allowed us to be able to see animals without being interrupted. They have a giraffe feeding, for $8/person it's an awesome opportunity to have close encounter. We each got about 4 leaves of lettuce and giraffes are really gentle picking them from our hands.

Location: Out there, Parking: Okay, Service: tickets(okay), park attendants (good), vending (okay), retail sales (okay), Military discount: yes, Areas where animals lived: some looked great others need to change ( according to a plan areas are being adjusted to better support the animals expected to be done in 2 more phases). Overall: This was a first-time visit and for the outside it does seem to have a good vibe as to decent areas of space.for the animals to roam and not be as caged up as was done in the past. The best example is the Giraffe exhibit. The amount of space is great, and the animals look so comfortable. Where as when you walk over to the Leopard exhibit, it seems cramped and closed in as well as the striped hyena exhibit. Another interesting piece is the huge model train exhibit. This remarkable creation will keep you looking for quite a while as it must be over a quarter acre of model buildings, bridges, and cities along the miles of track. I plan on. going back to see the new changes and updates. Until all the animals are in better accommodations..2.5 Stars...

This is a great little zoo with an emphasis on deserts around the world. They close early during the summer, but it's too hot to wander around anyway. You can feed giraffes for an extra $10, which was a lot of fun.

I’ve been wanting to come here for a while now. Glad I had the opportunity today. I arrived with no expectations and had a fantastic time walking around and asking the staff questions about the animals. You can expect school field trips to be there as well, but the zoo is quite large. Some of the walkways are a bit narrow and there’s a lot of soft ground and dirt, so watch your step. Different viewing areas for each of the animal exhibits and lots of small gardens to appreciate with labeled plants. Plenty of restrooms and places to stop for drinks and snacks. Plentiful parking and a nice gift shop. Took about 2 hours to make an entire loop around the zoo.

One of the best zoos I've ever been to. Conditions for the inmates er animals are apparently quite good with lots of space and excellent maintenance. We saw active cleaning of enclosures while we wandered about. The grounds are expansive and carrying water is advisable. There are lots of places to get snacks. The model train layout is absolutely fabulous (what it's doing in a zoo I don't know).

A fabulous way to spend the day! The giraffes were such a treat to watch. They animal demonstrations were also time well spent to slow down and enjoy what they were sharing. The tortoise and the snakes were a interesting watch! Family great adventure!

Friendly staff, you can get to enjoy the animals up close since the habitats and exhibits are perfectly thought out so you can really see them! You can feed the giraffes and pet cute goats. Great area to walk and get your steps while you learn about the wilderness that surrounds you however it gets really hot in the spring-summer, so wear sunblock and enjoy the drinks they offer, food is also good!

So much fun the animals here have more terrain then other zoo's loved that. It's definently worth coming you get 3 in 1. The zoo awesome and you can interact with some of the animals, 2. Hiking trail takes you to San Andrea's Fault really cool, 3. Botanic Garden beautiful plants and flowers. Loved it so much. Would come back again.

What a fantastic zoo. The living desert zoo isn’t small; if you’re looking to take your family on a great walk with many attractions and great species of animals. I would highly recommend this zoo. If you’re a big hiker, or just love the outdoors, they do have a trail in the zoo you can bring extra snacks, hiking boots, and a jug of water while you’re looking at the animals, and hike on their private trail. I would recommend to visit the zoo a little bit later in the evening it seems the earlier you go to the animals are sleeping or in hiding we didn’t get to see the Jaguar or the cheetah or the mountain lions. But we did enjoy the giraffes, rhinos and wallabies.

Go!! Omg. This may have been my fav experience in palm springs! The habitats they've created are amazing and the staff is super informative. I couldn't finish the entire zoo so I do plan on returning.

I been to different zoos but this one's the best so far. I love how much space the animals have. We came last minute, so we must come again.

We went on weekend of Halloween. The people working and volunteering were sooo kind and helpful. Chris explained to us how to get around the zoo and about the candy stations and activities going on at the zoo. She was great! The zoo was so beautiful, and we got to feed the giraffe. My son loved it. We hope to come back next year on our visit back to Palm desert.

Always a great time at the Living Desert. Staff is very kinda and goes the extra mile. Carousel is unique and fun for adults and kids to ride. My mom and I are annual pass owners and come back often. Got this awesome photo of the cheetah last time I was there :)

I don’t understand why it took us such a long time to come and visit this wonderful habitat of some extraordinary animals. Do not hesitate to come and bring your family here. We enjoyed each minute of this zoo. First time seeing some of the animals so close and kept in great environments. Keep up the great job The living zoo.

Visited on a Saturday afternoon and it was not crowded at all. A very small nice size zoo that children will enjoy. We were able to do the giraffe feeding and luckily when we got there there was not a line. We were told we just missed the rush. Several places to eat, I cannot comment on prices because we did not visit the cafes. 4 out of 5 because some construction was going on so some places was closed. Also there was like one animal in each habitat. Giraffe habitat was my favorite

Great place to go with the family. Lots of walking but they also have little motor scooters you can rent for the grandparents so they can ride along with the family. They have a nice shade on them too! Lots of beautiful animals and knowledgeable volunteers around to educate you during your visit. We love the big cats and the ice cream!
