The Monastery of Panagia Eikosifoinissi is a historic monastery of the Holy Metropolis of Drama. It is built at an altitude of 753 meters, on the north side of Mount Paggaio. The history of the monastery begins in 451 AD. A must see if you are traveling to the north Greece.

Really beautiful church situated at a high altitude for Kavala region. The road to it is good and offers nice views of the surrounding areas.

Worth visiting.Enjoy the amazing views towards the borders between Greece and Bulgaria.The monastery was established in the 5th century AD .If you're brave enough you can leave the car at the bottom of the hill and take the 6km hike up to an elevation of around 750m

One of the oldest monasteries in northern Greece. Visited during the 15 days leading to the Ascension of the Virgin Mary and stayed for the vesper service . It was beautiful and serene. Afterwards we had some ice cream at the little restaurant there and visited the deer located on the backside of the mountain.

The oldest monastery in the region, and perhaps one of the oldest in Greece. A spiritual place, located in mountain Paggaio. It worth visiting it via the villages Georgiani and Nikisiani. The route is great, really easy and the view is breathtaking. Do not forget to have a jacket with you.

This monastery is very old and the church itself brought on memories of my mt Athos visit a few years ago. For women which are not allowed on mt Athos, this is a good aproximation of the feel that the monasteries of mt Athos have. Off course minus the extraordinary views to the sea offered by those monasteries.

Nice view Monastery, with a very rich history but unfortunately destroyed during the Balkan Wars and later in the II WW from the Bulgarian troops, therefore the old buldings are not there anymore, except the main Church.

An unique monastire from 4th century, the main chearch isdzrk -. No electricity, so bring head lites and use nightsight mode of your camera phone......tio be abale to see the glorious picture
