Stunning architecture on a massive scale, the Grand Mosque is a beautiful tourist attraction. Only open to visitors in the mornings and not open to visitors on Fridays. Modest clothing required - head scarf and clothes that cover all the skin for women. My knee-length skirt was not long enough so I was asked to buy a traditional outfit from the gift shop, this was about 5 rials and a good buy. The buildings and art were stunning and the main room has a collection of massive chandeliers hanging over a huge carpet. Attendants within the mosque were friendly and knowledgeable. The surrounding gardens were beautifully designed and looked after.

This is one of the most popular and gorgeous mosques I had ever seen. When you enter, there is a huge garden that is full of flowers and rows of trees, in front of you and there is a water channel with a fountain in this garden. There is a monolithic carpet inside which was woven by Iranians. There is a huge chandelier in the mosque that is amazing. Women must be covered for entering the mosque and men should wear pants. The time for visiting is from 8 to 11 p.m.

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. It is the largest mosque in Muscat, the capital of Oman. and one of the most spectacular in the world. This mosque is built in Islamic traditional design with modern construction. There is a large complex here centered on this mosque. In addition to the mosque, there are beautiful gardens beside it. There are parking zones for adequate parking.

Beautiful magnificent mosque - free to enter As a tourist be sure to be there between 8-11 otherwise you wont be admitted. Only one note: The guards are not letting you to leave the mosque from the side-ways, just to go from the main entrance and ... take a taxi! This is a bit irritating and shouldn't be allowed.

This mosque is way batter and more authentic than the Grand Mosque Abu Dhabi that seems more like a posh jewellery store than a place of worship. The planners, designers and architects have kept it in total tune with Oman's traditions, philosophy and a simple way of life. To me it sums up many things of this beautiful country Oman. Its grand yet humble. Its modern yet retains traditions. Its not over the top extravagant yet its graceful. It doesn't have heavy handed mosaics or extra fancy curves yet it shows class. Its touristy but even just walking around in it has a very calming effect. I love the subtle dark sand colour scheme that absorbs the harsh sunlight and blends it in with its surroundings.

The mosque is huge. Walking in the garden was so peaceful. Guides inside are very polite and helpful. I entered at 8 30 and I was the first visiter. Try to do the same or otherwise its very crowded. Be aware of the dress code. Wear something long that covers the all body.

The grandest mosque of Oman! Really beautiful and stunning architecture. The sheer grandeur and size of this place will surely make you awestruck. The interiors are simply mind-blowing. The amount of art and design incorporated in every inch of this place is just mind-blowing. The grand chandeliers and carpets are truly a feast to the eye. A must-visit place if you're in Muscat.

An architectural masterpiece!! The simplicity and grandeur of the external part and the opulence of the interior makes for quite a visual experience. It is open for non- muslims from 8 - 11 am everyday (we went on a Sunday. Google said that it was closed, but on going there, it was open which rewarded us with a lasting memory). A must visit destination for those visiting Muscat.

One of the most magnificent Islamic architecture can be seen in and out of this mosque. Truly made with a lot of love and passion. A big chandelier is installed inside the main dome which make it more beautiful. Islamic ayats are written inside the mosque. Lamps are decorated outside walls in a way that make it look more beautiful at night with every pillar to give a stunning look.

A very beautiful and grand Mosque indeed! Friday prayer timings are between 12-12.30pm. There is parking on the road sides. Lack of shade which may leave you feeling hot if you stay too long in the mosque while exploring. Other than that the mosque is a wonder and very beautiful. Definitely a must visit.

Beautifully landscaped grounds and gardens surrounding the buildings. Impressive architectural details inside and out. The huge chandelier and carpet in the main hall are absolutely fabulous. Friendly people who are more than willing to provide answers and explain the religious traditions and practices. So glad we were able to experience this amazing mosque. Pleased to drop off a book for local film workshops in Muscat, Oman.

Extraordinary architecture. One of the main feature of the mosque is the carpet. It is a one piece carpet that covers the floor, produced in Iran. Second most amazing feature, the chandelier, 14 feet tall weighing 8 tons and was manufactured in Italy. In love with this place. Definitely a must visit if travelling muscat. You don't want to miss it. Amazing hospitality of their people. The women's prayer area can accommodate 750 worshippers. And men's prayer area can accommodate 8,000 worshippers.

Absolutely wonderful. Beautiful mosque open from 8-11am for non Muslims. Impeccably clean and very majestic. The gardens were very well maintained and the male praying room is just astonishing. Note the hand carved wooden doors and the gigantic carpet. A must see if you’re in Oman. Watch for what you wear as women need to cover their hair and wear long trousers or long skirts.

One of the Biggest Mosque in Oman. The Mosque is embellished in beautiful, colourful mosaic patterns. There is no official number stating how many stones have been used, but it is sure an astounding sight. Take your time to walk the halls and study the handcrafted details of the mosque. It is truly a one-of-a-kind piece of art.

Truly fascinating and important mosque in Muscat, Oman! It holds the largest chandelier in the world and a carpet that was woven by hundreds of hard-working Omani women. Please be extra respectful visiting the mosque, as not every mosque would usually allow visitors to come in and tour around. You'll have to take your shoes off and cover your hair (if you're a woman) when visiting. There is also a specific time where women are not allowed in, so just be aware. The Islamic architecture and outside area is very beautiful and they keep it clean, so please do so, as well!

You have to dress properly if you a tourist, but they have clothes at the entrance. You can be assured by a guide to give you a tour and some history of this magnificent place. This is a beautiful place to visit. It is not open to non-muslims on a Friday though, and women must be totally covered including, wrists, ankles and heads. It comprises many buildings but the men's mosque is especially wonderful. Very large and great if you are a keen photographer.

It was one of the most beautiful and amazing architectural building/ monument or I can say a masterpiece I saw in my life, the interior, the walls , the floor, the carpet , the chandelier, the lights , the marbles everything was attractive to the eyes. The people who love those as well as the history is great of that place. Must visit if you are in muscat, Oman. No entry fee , would be sometimes crowded, good for taking photos . But we should wear decent clothes as per the religious beliefs and practices.

The mosque is square in shape which surrounds the central dome with a total height of 50 meters. Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Muscat is one of the most beautiful and extravagant modern mosques in the world. This grand iconic structure in the Arab world took six years to build. The mosque features a blend of Islamic, Middle Eastern, and Omani architectural styles. Despite these things there are few astonishing facts regarding its design, interiors, carpets, chandelier and Architecture that will make anyone to visit this Mosque. This place is open for public. Women needs to wear clothes which cover the entire body with a scarf. Photography is allowed inside. It's a must place to visit.

The landscaping around Qaboos Grand Mosque was gorgeous. We didn’t go on a tour as we had limited time. The opening hours is between 8-11am, closed on Friday. It is a beautifully constructed mosque built in 1994. The main prayer hall called Musalla was large enough to hold 6,000 worshippers! The mosque became busy toward 10am onwards, would suggest going early.

Muscat`s prime tourist attraction and the only Mosque in Oman which admits non-muslims, the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque was commissioned by His Majesty himself in 1992, commenced in 1995 and completed 6 ½ years later. Slightly austere (though magnificent) in its sandstone exterior, its interior is rich and opulent. It houses both the second largest hand-woven carpet and the second largest crystal chandelier in the world, as well as exquisite stained-glass windows, mosaics and tiled floors. The Sultan Qaboos Mosque is only 11.7 km east of Muscat airport (8 minutes by car).

Most trips to Oman begin in the capital Muscat and high on everyone’s list is a visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. It’s a stunning modern mosque that lives up to its name with space for 20,000 worshippers. The extravagant main prayer hall features a massive chandelier, intricately detailed blue mosaic tiles, and the second largest handmade Iranian rug in the world—it took 600 women four years to weave. The mosque’s grounds are a serene place to wander and enjoy the harmonious lines and archways of the various buildings and beautiful gardens. Where to Stay: Beach Bay Hotel has comfortable rooms, a great breakfast, and is only a two-minute walk from Qurum Beach in the diplomatic area of Muscat. You can use the Grand Hyatt’s pool next door for a small fee.

That's because a lot of staff are involved in the hard work of keeping it clean, which is amazing. In addition, they seem to concentrate on the activity of publishing how Muslims behave, which is supposed to be a good opportunity for tourists from all over the world, especially Europe, who are not familiar with Muslims. The guides have gone to a lot of trouble and that means a lot. But it could mean many things. I believe that their great encouragement and their great efforts are eternal here from Muscat speading into the whole world.

What an amazing mosque, lots of people on tours and solo, but didn’t hinder my experience of taking the wonderful architecture and the history behind it all! Would definitely recommend, early in the morning if you’d like it to be less busy, it does close to the public for prayer times so please check before you go if you wish to go inside.

Staggering and stunning. Go early as that is when tourists are allowed, and make sure to stick to the dress code. Here you will see the largest chandelier and Persian carpet in the world! Must visit when in Muscat.

Beautiful mosque. Beautiful architecture. Unfortunately we got late and hence did not get a chance to do guided tour of the facility. Try to visit during sunset to see it better. The main mosque has beautiful architecture to lookout for

Well worth visiting. Please ensure you go early to be able to take more in and enjoy the quiet as it gets busy fairly fast. Be amazed by the carpet and chandeliers. Overall a stunning location. Also enjoy the gardens and lawn area between the building and freeway!

This place is amazing!! Just check opening times before you go, dress appropriately (not hard just wear a jacket and long trousers and remember to go inside the actual mosque, women’s hair needs to be covered) and be prepared to be astounded. We also went to chat to the volunteers to learn about the Mosque and they spent ages with us. Very interesting the whole thing, peaceful and incredibly beautiful!

Truly Grand as the name suggests. It's a 'must visit' place for every visitor to Muscat, Oman. The grandeur, the intricate designs, the single piece carpet custom made in Iran, etc. are par excellence. Both men and women are supposed to wear decent clothing covered from head to toe. Visiting hours for non muslims are 8:00 am till 12:00 noon.

The Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque (Arabic: جَامِع ٱلسُّلْطَان قَابُوْس ٱلْأَكْبَر‎, romanized: Jāmiʿ As-Sulṭān Qābūs Al-Akbar) is the main mosque in the Sultanate of Oman, located in the capital city of Muscat. In 1992, Qaboos bin Said al Said, the then Sultan of Oman, directed that his country should have a Grand Mosque. A competition for its design took place in 1993 and after a site was chosen at Bausher construction commenced in December 1994. Building work, which was undertaken by Carillion Alawi LLC, took six years and seven months. The mosque is built from 300,000 tonnes of Indian sandstone. The main musalla or prayer hall is square and 74.4 by 74.4 metres (244 by 244 feet) with a central dome rising to a height of 50 metres (160 ft) above the floor. The dome and the main minaret (90 metres (300 ft)) and four flanking minarets (45.5 metres (149 ft)) are the mosque’s chief visual features. The main musalla can hold over 6500 worshippers, while the women's musalla can accommodate 750 worshipers. The outer paved ground can hold 8000 worshipers and there is additional space available in the interior courtyard and the passageways, making a total capacity of up to 20,000 worshipers. The mosque is built on a site occupying 416,000 m2 (4,480,000 sq ft), and the complex extends to cover an area of 40,000 m2 (430,000 sq ft). The newly built Grand Mosque was inaugurated by Sultan of Oman on May 4, 2001 to celebrate 30 years of his reign.

Travelled from the US and this was our first must-do thing in Muscat. We read the reviews to get there early to have the place to yourself and we were thankful! We arrived around 8:15am and we were the only couple there for probably 30 minutes - it was great!! To experience the place without crowds is wonderful, definitely recommend getting there early - by 9:30 when we left it had filled up quite a bit with other tourists. Parking was easy, a big lot right in front of the main entrance for visitors. Inside the mosque, a retired professor joined us on our tour and gave us the information and history of the mosque and religion - it was wonderful to hear his insights. It seemed like a lot of men where there to do the same thing, so have someone join you to give the tour! Women must be covered - I wore a head scarf and had a long sleeve shirt with a long skirt. Masks are also required everywhere with Covid regulations. A beautiful place!!

It’s really impressive, a must have visit when you are in Oman. The architecture, the space and the peace you find in this place is unbelievable. Not to mention the stunning ceramic decorations and the stone walls. Dress code, for women make sure you come with your shoulders covered and a scarf so you can cover your head otherwise you won’t be able to enter. The pictures and videos are allowed inside and the guards were very respectful and kind. At the end, we visited the information point where they bring you coffee and Omani dates (They also had a delicious ginger tee which was my favorite 😍, all was donations from Omani people to serve tourist!!). There was a person telling us a bit more about the history and the Islam, it was lovely to hear they are volunteers that come few times a week to serve the visitors and after 11 they go to their day to day work. Thanks to Oman and its beautiful people! 😍

Best Mosque in the entire Oman and trust me this country has beautiful and colorful mosques all over the region. This place is situated near the airport on the road leading to the city centre. Entry for tourists is strictly between 8 am to 11 am on all days except Friday when tourists are not allowed. Women should have their head covered and no skin should be visible evidently while men should refrain from wearing shorts. The main hall of this mosque is huge and beautifully built. Mosque has 2 floors of library where Islamic literature and motivational books can be read. A wonderful must visit place when in Muscat.

Note of opening hours for tourists and dress code. There is an option to rent abaya and other items before entering the mosque. Once inside, it’s such a beautiful space and plenty to explore (and take photos). The chandeliers are nice and all but I just love the stunning architecture and clean lines. However upon closer look you can see all the intricate carvings and interesting shapes. A must-do when visiting Muscat.

One of the most beautiful mosques I’ve seen. Definitely a must visit when in Muscat. For ladies, please bring scarf to cover your head/hair & dress decent preferably loose long pants/skirt and long sleeves as they’re quite strict on the dress code. Meanwhile, walking barefoot inside the area of mosque (interior/exterior) is one of the most pleasant feeling especially now that it’s scorching weather. The flooring of the mosque (uncertain whether it’s limestone or something else) will make you feel cooler a bit.

As well as the mosque, grounds and gardens, visit the information centre where you can get a coffee, talk to people and discover more about the mosque, the people and religion. Note: dress appropriately!!

Very amazing place, I went there from 4pm-7 pm enjoyed the architecture in the sun light and night . For tourists need to wear proper covering clothing and if you want to enter the indoor area of the mosque they allowed visits in the morning . There is also a cafe .
