The oldest lighthouse in Europe overlooking the Bay of Biscay and the Atlantic Ocean. This structure served mariners as guide in navigating those perilous waters. I was there many times and as a seafarer, I can't help but be mesmerized by the beauty, function and design which still stands since the 2nd century. Though it underwent many renovations, the original structure is still preserved. Moreover, the view from the top is stunning as you can see everything including the city. They also offer free entrance during Mondays :D

A beautiful place with a lot of history. I had no clue the Celtics had come this far down the European coast till I visited this place and learnt of its Celtic connections. After the tower visit,be sure to walk down the hill to the edge of the cliff to enjoy exhilarating views of the waves crashing onto the rocks below. Gentle trails criss-cross the hillside and one can make their way back using them. Just be aware that tickets for the tower need to be purchased at the base of the hill on the left, just before the start of the climb.

I went to visit family and the birthplace of my paternal grandmother in 2018. My family in A Coruña told me I had to visit the historic lighthouse built by the Romans. It is an imposing edifice. Amazing that such a structure has survived for millenia. And against the backdrop of sea and cliffs, it is unforgettable. Nice walk up to the lighthouse and little museum at the bottom. If you are in A Coruña, make time to visit, you will not be disappointed.

This is pretty fascinating for the age and location. Originally from the first century, remodeled to how it looks today, in the 17th century, this is definitely worth the visit. But the grounds around it are the best feature. Beautiful coastline, hours of walking or hiking, and an overall fantastic day/half day outdoors. Good hike and exercise with scenic photo opportunities. Cheers!

Rating is for the entire area. Sure, the Tower is phenomenal and the tour (buy tickets well BELOW the tower, in parking lot!) is a must-do, but the trails, promenade and public art are equally evocative and special. Terrific small beaches nearby. Glorious!

We first went during the morning and it was impossible to find parking anywhere without having a half hour walk, so we went away to the city centre and returned again the same evening. We couldn't entre inside the tower, but had a lovely walk up to and around it. Impressive tower that is the oldest standing lighthouse in the world. It was reformed in the 1780s and apparently you can still see the original building from the inside. The spiral you see on the outside is also the original walkway up. Definitely worth a visit. The views are lovely. Take a light jacket in the summer. Very windy and fresh in mid August! 😁

Ancient roman tower in pretty good nick. Also still a working lighthouse. Oldest one in continuous use apparently. Good tourist attraction and a relatively scenic walk to it. Cheap enough tickets. Great views of the surrounding sea from the base....obviously.

It's a nice historic place and UNESCO world heritage site. The lighthouse itself is well preserved and renovated! by keeping the original design as much as possible. There is some controversy about the windows but you can read about it there! On its own the sight is not too special, but it's surrounded by beautiful scenery and nice coastal walks. The price to climb up the monument is more than fair and gives you a good impression of how the lighthouse changed over the years. Worth a visit if you are in the area, but not worth a big detour if you are not particularly interested in history. Including the coastal walks you can spend about 2h there.

We took a cab from the port. Small ticket fee but very beautiful, historic and majestic place. We hiked to the top to enjoy the view. Ticket times manage the flow of people to avoid congestion on the narrow steps at the top. Had to walk about 1/2 mile to the taxi stop back to town but well worth it.

If you'e looking for a chance to be blown way, this is where it happens in A Coruna. You don't even need to get to the very top (especially if for unknown reasons the ticket office is closed and you actually can't get to the top) and you might need to make a Herculean effort to remain attached to the ground. Hold your phone, hat, and grandma close—one moment of distraction and they'll all drift towards the cityscape. Lovely views.

For €3 you get to visit this incredible UNESCO World heritage monument. The groups are small, time slots every 15 minutes. The walk up the tower is very informative describing both legends, archeological findings, history and construction. Loved it!

Great experience. Entrance was free, but you have to book a ticket, timeslot, to get in. A bucketlist thing. All the way up in the tower, aged from the Romans, legend says celtic.

It was a very lovely one day trip to Coruña and getting up to the tower to have a panoramic view one the shore and the city. Luckily the weather was just perfect, no raining which gave a special flavor to the experience. While being in Coruña don't forget enjoying the local beer, Estrella Galicia, highly recommended.

Well worth the €3 to visit and book in advance to guarantee a timed entry. Beautifully restored Roman lighthouse with information boards in English at every leve and an amazing view from the top. One of the best restored monuments in Spain.

A beautiful experience! I recommend buying the tickets from the parking and then going up the hill. We went at the entrance thinking we could buy tickets there and we had to go back again. The view from the top is very beautiful - pictures are from there. And they do the tours only in Spanish, but they were nice and offered to answer our questions after we explored it.

Tolle Aussicht über A Coruña. Stufen zur Plattform gut zu bewältigen. Erwachsene 3€. Kinder 1,5€. Es werden nur begrenzt Besucher hoch gelassen, deshalb auch kein Stau oder Gegenverkehr.

A very special and iconic place in a great location. Make sure you come early in the morning to catch the sunrise light and avoid the masses...

Stunning views from a historic tour and light house. Nice walk from the car park up, but it’s uneven if you have a pram or wheel chair. Toilets under the light house on the right as you walk up.

An astonishing place that was first build in the first century BC. The end of the world for the romans and definitely a place to visit!

Nice rocky coast nearby. Tower itself looks very new, after reconstruction it doesn't looks Roman at all. So making it UNESCO heritage is imho a bit of exaggeration.

A fine place to spend 30-60 minutes. You can buy tickets at the entrance (cash or card), and there is plenty of parking. The place is well organized with walking paths, and there are several stops to observe. The view to the sea is very breathtaking.

Historical landmark in A Coruña, the only working beacon from Roman times in the world. You need to buy tickets in advance (online or on site), amazing views of the coast and town.

Hot but easy walk up to the lighthouse, it was sold out but the views were amazing anyway. I'd be interested to know more about the statues but there didn't seem to be any information readily available.

The oldest operating lighthouse in the world, a legacy from the Roman Empire. Very impressive height and design. I recommend to climb to the top and see the panoramic view of the ocean and the whole city of A Coruña.

Gorgeous views even though it was a storm with impressive waves when we visited, loved the spray from the sea on our faces! Such an enchanting place with beautiful scenery and from here you see the aquarium. Great coastal walk too.. would recommend a visit!

an old roman tower, perfectly restored with amazing views. All the history is fantastic. Don’t miss it, and get tickets online in advance

Beautiful tower.. make sure to buy tickets down in the parking area, they don’t sell them near the tower

  • 5/5 Michelle M. 7 months ago on Google
Beautiful lighthouse, oldest working lighthouse in Europe. Fantastic to visit by day and by night. By day you can climb up its stairs and get a great view of the ocean and by night, you can witness its beam of light warning ships to be aware of Galicia's "coast of death" or "Costa da morte". This is free at night and a must see! Parking is much easier at night and although it looks "closed" many of Coruña's natives go for a stroll up to the base of the tower. Wear flat shoes with a rubber sole, the road is made of cobble stone and not for heels or shoes with a slippery sole. It is pretty well lit at night. If you go by day, purchase your tickets online or at the base of the road up to the tower in a trailer-like office near the parking area on the left. Many people make the mistake of walking all the way up to the base of the tower only to be told the tickets are to be bought at the bottom. You can also buy online. Inside the tower is a sort of museum telling you about the history and legends about the building.

The first light house of the world which is still functioning. Every tourist should visit this place.

  • 5/5 Robin D. 1 year ago on Google
Really impressive sight! I went there at dawn, so I could see the lighting, wich is incredible. Also the surrounding (except for the football/soccer field) are very natural and a joy to see. I was really impressed by this place! It is definately worth a visit if you are in A Coruña. Next to it there are also more very interating places, like the compass or the horn, aswell as the path along the sea. I can only recommend going here for the tower and for a beautiful landscape at the sea.

Great place to visit, specially in windy days, when you can go up to the tower and see in a different perspective the typical Galician day. Difficult to park due to limited spaces, recommended to leave the park in the nearby area instead.

Must visit when in the area. Great views of the city and Atlantic Ocean. Can get very windy so prepare to cover yourself.

Some of the best views of coruna and the coast. Lots of places to rest on the way up and a lot of history to learn about how the tower started ajd has changed so many times.

Very Picturesque and a great view... Unfortunately no ticket available for a climb... But still a lovely 360 degree view.

We took a quick taxi ride from the port to the Tower of Hercules. It was a very windy walk up, but the views were worth it! Note: The trek up was uneven and sloping. There were some people with bikes coming down. We found a dirt path down along the coast that was flat going back to the main road. There were people on the top of the tower. I’m not sure if they had to purchase tickets to go inside(we didn’t try) the views outside the tower were good enough for us. Stop here for a great view!

👍👍 One of the best parks in the city. There are many locations within it to rest, have a barbeque, sunbathe or do the exercises. A strong smell of eucalyptus makes the experience absolutely unique and astonishing. I would definitely recommend it.
