I have been visiting this place since I was a little child and it is truly disheartening to witness its progressive degradation. It is a bittersweet experience. On the one hand the Natural Park is still beautiful and worth seeing and walking through, on the other, knowing that its debacle is certain and nearer every year makes my heart weep.

I really enjoyed this monastery. It is surrounded by forest and you can get there following 2 different ways. 1 is to take a transport to the Bridge Cristina crossing river Eume and walking up 500m to monastery. Or, you can hike 7.5 km from the parking lot, 1.7km before the first hanging bridge. This way you can get to know the nature around you. Then go backway, crossing a bridge over Rego De Mazoca, near the Muiño de Sesin ruins. The monastery is quite small and picturesque. As a reward you can have a nice coffee and snack in Taberna de Caaveiro. The staff is very friendly and they speak English.

The hike to this 10th century monastery is what makes it so special. It’s nestled deep within Fragas do Eume natural park. (Free entry. No tickets.)

Beautiful area, though the monastery itself feels rather empty, with only some basic exhibition pieces. Would stil recommend, especially for the view.

👍👍 The Sesín River ethnographic park runs for about 800 m framed in a 2 or 3 km route that enters the Fragas del Eume in the direction of the Caaveiro monastery. The mills are rebuilt, and form a very good ethnographic complex. Each one has an information panel with its plan and specifications. The pat...
