😠 The cathedral is great, BUT: we came from Germany to see Santiago de Compostela and a part of it is Pórtico de la Gloria. The website did not allow to book two weeks in advance. We called at least ten times two different landlines and tried the same on a given mobile number. No one in none of them... People often mention rtico, visit, Mateo, Santiago, cathedral, portico, para, visita, entrance, Compostela,

The cathedral is great, BUT: we came from Germany to see Santiago de Compostela and a part of it is Pórtico de la Gloria. The website did not allow to book two weeks in advance. We called at least ten times two different landlines and tried the same on a given mobile number. No one in none of them picked up the phone. There was just an answering machine saying tickets must be obtained at the museum cash in person. Today we were the first in the queue prior to opening at 10.30am. Well, they had some in two days for us when we will be back home. Even if asked inside the Basilica, where the entrance is placed now, we were not let to pass in, although 4 people of thw visiting group had left and we saw it. What to say the puerta is ok, quitw similar to the one in Toro, same concept just slightly bigger. (I've seen both) The service here is a shame and not worth to be visited. Visiting and booking infrastructure seems to be older than the puerta itself, somr dinosaur age. And the worst is the absolute lack of friendliness of the staff. They even said with such a honest review one would do them a favour, so here we go! All visitors from far away, be aware to visit the beautiful basílica / Catedral but without the Puerta!!! By the way, it seems it is run by another 'fundación' which is independent from the Catedral. Just a shame... Best regards

(Translated by Google) The Pórtico de la Gloria is impressive. An extraordinarily conceived work. Since the restoration carried out, it has been possible to leave a faithful reflection of the work of Master Mateo. You have to come see it. Ah, you can't take photos. (Translated by Google) Excellent representation in stone, although increasingly limited. The pilgrims are no longer allowed to touch anything as they once did when there were several traditions. If all those who go did the blows, the Cathedral collapsed in two days.

Even pelgrims need to buy a 10 euro ticket to see this entrance. What a warm welcome. I'm glad I came by car. No vale la peña

(Translated by Google) The Portico de la Gloria is the western entrance to the Romanesque cathedral, designed by the genius of Maestro Mateo. It is considered a masterpiece of universal art. The figure of Maestro Mateo is associated exclusively to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the goal of thousands of pilgrims who came and go to worship the Apostle Santiago. At least since 1168, the date of the granting of a life pension by King Ferdinand II of León, Mateo was at the head of the works of the Compostela temple, whose construction had begun in 1075 and would not finish until 1211. Mateo and his team carried out important works in three outstanding fields: the so-called "crypt", located under the Portico de la Gloria, the porch itself and the missing western façade. He also carried out a stone choir that was installed in the first four sections of the central nave of the church.

(Translated by Google) We go to the free visit. To be able to access in this way, it is necessary to book one day in advance (for the necessary Monday, book Saturday as they do not open this office on Sunday) at Rúa do Vilar n3. They open this office at seven in the afternoon for one hour, and the visit is made the next day at seven thirty. To access the portico, you must enter through the same entrance as the rooftops are visited (highly recommended visit as well). We thought that the guide would explain something worse should be that being free does not include explanation, they give you a brochure and the girl explains that you can not touch or take pictures. The portico is splendid, with surprisingly well-recovered polychromies. It brought back memories of me when I saw the central pillar so worn out of all the hands that passed there. Being a visit where you save € 10 is not bad.

(Translated by Google) Highly recommended visit to a newly restored porch. A marvel. Short visits (30-45 minutes) with explanation of the guide. Obviously, you can't touch or photograph. We took the combined entrance-Museum-Portico, which comes out cheaper than separately. Take advantage now to visit it because you are seeing how the porch responds to visits so do not hesitate 👌 (Original) Visita muy recomendable a un pórtico recién restaurado.

(Translated by Google) Too much waiting in line. They should establish a system of hour shifts so as not to have people waiting between 3 and 4 hours, missing the opportunity to visit other parts of the city. Also, if you put yourself at noon, you do that tail under the sun and when your turn comes you do not even look the 10 minutes you have inside. It is very nice but the feeling at the end is not good because of the bad organization. (Original) Demasiada espera haciendo cola.

(Translated by Google) More than 3 hours under the sun for a very bad organization. If you already know that every 15 min, 25 people enter to give numbers or put schedules on the Internet because what can not be is that they lose more than three hours in a queue that could be numbered because you know the number of people that fit inside . A shame ... I hope you regulate this soon ... Spectacular portico, but there is litttle space and/or light to truly appreciate its beauty. And it is unbelievable they charge separately to see this, and you better book ahead on their web weeks in advance or forget about it. The Catholic churh business and exploitation of works of art that belong to humanity, not to Rome, know no limits.

The Santiago Cathedral. Enchanting place. Looks divine during the day or at night under the moonlight. It's been said apostol Saint James has been buried there.

I was disappointed that you are not allowed to take any photos but it is a beautiful portico. To see an even better portico, that you can take photos of, head over to the cathedral in Ourense.

Recently successfully restored to much critical acclaim the ‘Door of Glory’ is the triple-columned entrance to the Cathedral through which pilgrims traditionally arrived. Sculpted in the 12th century by Master Mateo (between 1166 & 1188), it is considered to be one of the finest treasures of the Cathedral. The Portico, the high-ceilinged porch area that is attached to the main entrance, has been restored and you can examine again the design and intricate stone carvings. The middle pillar has the statue of St. James with Crist the redeemer above & surrounded by the 4 evangelists. There are over 80 figures from the bible. The base of column has been worn by millions of pilgrims hands. The kneeling figure facing the altar is the master Mateo.

10 euros to see the masterful, polychromatic poético of the cathedral. Opinion was.qbout evenly divided in our group about whether it was worth it. Read about it before going to get more out of.it. do not take pictures. Do not wear a hat. Be quiet and respectful.

It is amazing to see the front entrance to the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Strangely you cannot take photos as they believe the taking of photos will damage the paint on the sculptures. I think they are thinking of old fashioned flash photography. They have an excellent booklet but in Spanish only. The guard is a wealth of information but only in Spanish. It is helpful to designate someone in your group to interpret to get the full explanation.

(Translated by Google) What to say about such a special place. Discovering Master Mateo behind his magnificent creation has enchanted us. The rehabilitation that they have done has discovered a chromaticism that is too lame. I don't understand why you can't take photos without flash. Discovering the vision of hell in the right arch, or the majesty of a Christ of more than three meters where for the first time his humanity is appreciated in those times, as well as all the symbolism that surrounds it is simply fascinating, it is worth doing the tail. (Translated by Google) It is spectacular. A wonder that is worth seeing if you are in Santiago because everything that is represented there is amazing. But nevertheless. The entrance costs 10 euros that good, considering the restoration carried out and that is a good of all that deserves to be preserved I see no face. But they sell you that it is an hour of guided tour when it really is only 30 minutes and the rest is a good waiting time, good time traveling stays. Important. If you do not get tickets online go directly there to buy them because there are usually for many hours. I don't know why they don't appear on the web (Original) Es espectacular.

(Translated by Google) Many hours under the sun due to poor organization for entry, then leave you 10 minutes in front of the portico without being able to get close. Thousands of people taking pictures in the cathedral and a lady who made one to the porch the vigilant and frustrated project of police who saw her, asked her to show her the photos of the mobile phone and to erase that photo. They could already hire people with enough education to deal with the pilgrims, bad manners and arrogance are hanged on the hanger when entering to work facing the public.
