It is true that it is abandoned and there are no plans to restore it. But it is an essential and possible visit. Andrés and Ricardo are taking care of cleaning it up as much as possible by themselves, cleaning and opening some of its spaces, without any support or profit motive. If you are in the area, you have to visit it and let Ricardo guide you and explain his attempt to turn this impressive building into the tourist attraction it should be.

Abandoned and abandoned prison. Too bad, because its architecture is interesting with a main body in the shape of a Greek cross. Perhaps a museum should be set up there to bring the place back to life.

(Translated by Google) Imposing building in front of the Hercules tower, which was the old provincial prison of A Coruña, inaugurated in 1928 and closed in 1998 due to the opening of a much more modern prison in Teixeiro. During its years in operation, it hosted a multitude of common prisoners, and during the Franco dictatorship various political prisoners. Since its closure, it has hosted single events such as a film festival and some exhibition, and for some time there was a threat to open it definitively to the public that did not bear fruit and ended up closing the public until today, while it degrades a little more every day, currently being in a practically ruined state.

It's very nice and interesting building of an old prison in A Coruña. But you can see this nice piece of architecture only from outside. The building is collapsing and is a little shame that is abandoned. It would be nice to see it inside also.

The architecture of the building is interesting for a prison. However, you can only see the building from the outside and everything is in a bit of disrepair so don't expect too much.

An old prison that was active when I was little and even had a couple of people from the terrorist group e.t.a detained there and thousands of people gathered around the prison singing freedom, freedom...now it is abandoned and is falls to pieces

Well, it is an old prison in A Coruña that is in a very emblematic place, in front of the Tower of Hercules. I have no idea why they keep it.

Wonderful place in terms of meaning and infrastructure, which is currently being renovated for public use. A quarter of the space will be given over for artistic activities and the recovery of historical memory, among other uses.

It is currently closed. Only one hallway is accessible. It's a shame that they don't adapt it so that it can be visited. It would be very interesting to see it inside.

Dilapidated building with lots of graffiti, looks like bad business happens here at night. (From the view of our apartment 1 block away). So much potential to be an interesting destination, it should be rehabilitated but right now it’s feeding the seedy underbelly of A Coruña

Pena que este edificio esté totalmente abandonado, en vez de recuperarla para uso público, como la de Lugo.

(Translated by Google) It should be active again, but to lock up some corrupt politicians with a cocky attitude.

đź‘Ťđź‘Ť Strange place, situated just off the coast in A Coruna, it has lots of stones with square holes cut out of them and a rather stranger set of stones which looked like a mini Stonehenge (UK). There are no restriction around the stones so you can go right up to them and take your pictures. The stones a...
