the inside is no longer resembling anything architecturally authentic from the time of klungkung rajadom but the small “museum” with photos are definitely worth the visit. free to visit with kind “staff” (which may be a family living there, I’m guessing somehow relates to the current regent of klungkung) and free toilet. recommended for those who are interested in the 18th-21st century raja/kingdoms history and players.

Pretty cool. Found it during my trip around Klungkung. Nothing else to do except looking at the beautiful palace.

Puri Klungkung is a historic complex located in Semarapura, the capital of Klungkung regency in Bali. The palace (puri) was built in the late 17th century, but was largely destroyed during the Dutch colonial conquest in 1908. Today, it remains the court pavilion, the Kertha Gosa, and the main door which bears the date Saka 1622 (AD 1700). The complex features typical Klungkung style architecture and painting. The Kertha Gosa is particularly impressive with its ceiling paintings which illustrate the various punishments in the afterlife and the results of karma. The resort also houses a floating pavilion, Bale Kembang, which offers lotus views. I really enjoyed the visit to this place full of history and culture. I highly recommend it to lovers of Balinese art and architecture.
