Great place to visit with the family for a quiet walk and escape the rat race. Me and my son are here today to get out of the house we enjoyed the grounds, wildlife and house.

First visit here, and impressed. Staff in the hall were lovely and very informative. Hall is beautiful and kept lovely, amazing detail for a grand small hall. Grounds are big, but small enough to walk around in the day. Peg marked walks, oaths good, take care as path along river a bit overgrown. Fab day.

Been here many times but felt it wasn't being used to the best, there are large rooms with very little in them. Seems to have gone on a downward spirel but what a shame its a beautiful place. And for only £6 entry if your not a national trust member which is so reasonable. The grounds are lovely to walk around but the cafe has gone what a shame. There is a little van outside but for how long and when I'm not sure. It could be beautiful inside,, they have so much in storage get it out and maybe I will come back.

Excellent Hall and grounds, Free entry to the Hall for National Trust members, grounds are free to all. The Hall is wonderful inside, lovely, elegant rooms, the guides very knowledgeable and helpful. This location is definitely missing a cafe/tea room though a lovely dog friendly cafe is well worth a visit in Padiham ( The Fat Giraffe) just a short drive away.

Part of the National Trust so entry was free. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Their were parts of the house we were unable to see, and it's not great if you struggle with mobility but it was interesting. Coffee van on site but the cafe was closed.

Good for an hour or two, set in woodlands with plenty walks and great for dogs. Not in hall ! Currently there's a textile exhibition on the second floor until 5/11/23 which adds another level of interest. Don't think the kids would thank you, But for us anoraks some good things to see.

This place was amazing! The hall and grounds were superb there were lots to see in the hall and the grounds are beautifully kept. The staff shared interesting information about each room also about the family who lived there which made the visit even better, the young man on the desk was very nice. We really enjoyed it here I would definitely recommend you visit.

Hall was closed for winter - probably ok in summer but essentially a dog walking park as far as I could tell.

Really enjoyed having a look inside the Hall. It is in such good condition. The rooms are so light and the Long Gallery looked lovely with the sun shining in.

Small national trust property with woodland walks. Interesting history about the house and family who lived there. A good half day out. No cafe onsite but picnic places and the property is very close to Padiham with cafes and shops.

Great day out at this beautiful stately home and reasonable entrance price, large woodland for long walks, ideal for four legged friends, the coffee shop unfortunately is closed, but there was a lovely mobile coffee van on the grounds, next to the stately home, lovely staff and very knowledgeable on the history of the family who originally owned the stately home.

Unfortunately I didn't get chance to go in the main building however the grounds are fantastic and make for a lovely walk. Very very well kept and 1 of the only national Trust sites I no of where parking is free. Toilet facilities on site extremely clean. Lovely area to have a picnic. All in all well worth a visit. Car park does get full and quickly only down side. Nice clean easy paths good for all abilities will definitely be back.

Gorgeous. Parking is free. Hall and cafe were closed when we visited but plenty of space to walk around and the grounds were perfect for a picnic. Gardens were small but had lots of plant variety- could have been more maintained as some parts were overgrown. Definitely worth a visit. Toilets and cafe on-site. Would return again when the hall is open.

Great 17th century grand family home. The staff are all very knowledgeable and passionate about the house and easy to talk to. The grounds are easy to walk around and mainly wheelchair accessible. The house its self is on many levels though.

Nice garden for a walk but hall is currently closed until later in the year so can't look inside.

It was a bit tricky to find the place To make it easier to get to follow the below: Gawthorpe Hall, Stockbridge Drive, Padiham, Burnley, BB12 8SH Thank me later :) Nice rooms from the 1600's :)

  • 4/5 Carol S. 2 years ago on Google
Lots to buy on the Friends of Gawthorpe stalls, hand made items and a raffle for a Hand made quilt, do wear something warm, rather chilly in the hall, open next weekend 11th and 12th Dec from 10 am, see the hall at Christmas

  • 5/5 Glyn J. 2 years ago on Google
Done free through National trust membership. Small and cozy inside but nice little place to see. Volunteers are informative and friendly. Miss out if you don't ask them anything! Grounds are nice. No tea rooms for now, but there was a travelling bus that did nice coffee. Not there everyday so you have been warned! Worth a few hours for a walk on the grounds too.

  • 5/5 Sheena C. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful grounds, well kept and lots of wildlife to be spotted. My boys especially enjoy hunting the grounds for the bird boxes and having a play on the forest play area. Cafe isn't open so take a brew with you if wanted

  • 5/5 Martyn S. 2 years ago on Google
Lovely old building that has many original features. The barn is great, especially as it has an exhibition in it at the moment.

  • 4/5 Darren B. 2 years ago on Google
Informative guides in each room of the hall added context to the old architecture and furniture on display. There's also a display of lace and textiles in the hall which didn't interest me personally but others may enjoy. The grounds and walks through the woods are excellent too. There are a few picnic tables but also plenty of room to lay a blanket out. The tea room is closed currently (mid 2021), but toilet facilities remain open. Overall, there's enough to keep you occupied for a few hours on a fine day, with probably about an hour for the hall itself.

Great way to spend an hour or so looking at this amazing little mansion.

  • 5/5 Alex T. 2 years ago on Google
Nice place to visit. Quiet setting in a town. Staff are very knowable about the Shuttleworths, who owned the property from 1600 onwards. Good day out.

Nice stately home. Not massive but interesting walk around

  • 5/5 Tom W. 1 year ago on Google
Lovely place for a walk, pristine gardens, a kids play area and access to a beautiful walk by the river. You can pay a fee to visit the hall in the summer but it's free if your local. One of the North's classic manor houses.

  • 5/5 jessica l. 4 years ago on Google
Lovely and unusual hall with some really nice features. Great display on textiles and sewing whilst we were there. There is also a room with toys and activities for children. The national trust staff were really knowledgeable and enthusiastic too, which brought the rooms to life.

  • 2/5 Clive P. 5 months ago on Google
Never been in the house. Cafe not open anymore. Gardens and woodland walks poorly kept. Very wet and muddy after rain. The main driveway is quite narrow with no path for pedestrians. A bit disappointing.

  • 5/5 Jeff B. 8 months ago on Google
This is a real gem of a place. The house is surprisingly large and there are many features remaining from the early 1600s. The grounds are mostly beautiful woods and quite extensive. There is no cafe but there was a coffee van there when we visited and apparently he will be there for a while during the rest of the summer.

  • 4/5 Stefan P. 8 months ago on Google
The hall is beautiful and there are plenty of things to see inside. However, compared to other National Trust locations, the garden could be a bit more taken cared of. Hence, only 4 stars.

  • 4/5 Kevin J. 8 months ago on Google
Was shut during lockdown. Went back now it's reopened. Fascinating story of the owners. Child was given a quiz to fill in during the visit (kept her busy!) Nice way to spend an hour. Nice gardens too. No cafe but a mobile coffee stand served drinks & snacks

  • 5/5 Andy R. 11 months ago on Google
We didn't do the inside tour we just walked around the grounds which took about a hour in the well maintained gardens and the woods. Next visit we will do the hall tour which is £6 per person (adult) .

  • 5/5 Rich H. 10 months ago on Google
Beautiful compact Tudor house set in naturalised grounds with a series of play areas and picturesque walks around local woodland. Sorry not to enjoy the standard National Trust tea room, but appreciated the coffee van that had been welcomed on site as a replacement

  • 5/5 Kay B. 11 months ago on Google
Went to visit this National trust House whilst on a weekend break. Was pleasantly suprised as easy parking and relaxed no rush round the rooms. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and it was a very interesting visit.Grounds were pleasant too and good for dog walkers.

  • 5/5 Jay C. 2 years ago on Google
Absolutely wonder place to visit. Dog friendly in the grounds and plenty of space to have a picnic on a sunny day. The house is beautiful both in and out and the guides were incredibly informative and knowledgeable.

  • 3/5 Louise B. 10 months ago on Google
We visited on a very dull week day so it looks very gloomy in the photos but the hall is a beautiful property with small gardens and some woodland walks to enjoy. The staff are very helpful with good knowledge to share. Disappointed that there's no longer a sit-in cafe. The cafe is there but looks closed down. No signage for a cafe either. Very odd. It was a very cold day and before going on a woodland walk, finding shelter from the cold wind whilst having a coffee purchased from a mobile truck that was there (not sure if that's a regular thing), was difficult. There's a feeling of the grounds being a little unloved. Not the usual standard of a National Trust property. Again a little odd but we did enjoy the house. It's not a full day visit, we were finished in a couple of hours.

  • 5/5 John L. 10 months ago on Google
Wow! What a gorgeous find on my doorstep! Frequented by dog-walkers and couples of all ages. Plus car park is FREE, although owned by National Trust, the site is managed by Lancashire County Council with free entry (apart from interior of house: £6 for adults). Good toilets. Sadly no cafe. Very impressive sight!

  • 5/5 Tony B. 10 months ago on Google
A surprise location within Padiham itself. Lovley walk around the Hall and Gardens. Lots of history for a Stately house of its size. You won't be disappointed. Well worth the visit, lots of parking, and a small coffee stand is available but more seating would be better. Bring a blanket its ideal for a picnic.

  • 5/5 Diane W. 1 year ago on Google
Hubby and I found Gawthorpe Hall on the way back from an artists meeting today. We are National Trust members and love to explore the Trusts acquisitions in new areas. Gawthorpe is a lovely spot, very peaceful and lots of mature trees in the woodland. The house itself is very impressive with knowledgeable volunteers who are happy to impart some knowledge if you’re happy to listen. We understood there was no tearoom here but there was a coffee wagon where we were each able to get a delicious decaf latte and a Kitkat for a very reasonable £7:40. We really enjoyed Gawthorpe and it’s beautiful interiors together with the collection of superb embroidery, lace and textiles.

Very interesting place.well informed staff giving lots of information about the property. The textile exhibition was inspirational, the highlight of the visit for me. Surrounding parkland gave my dog a good walk. Highly recommend.

This is a treasure if a place to visit. I am a local and have 40 years ago completed most of the joinery on the estate. Historical importance, great barn out houses and the hall is just sublime. Visit in summer and have a coffee, bring a picnic stay the day.

An excellent interior. Staff are extremely knowledgeable enthusiastic whilst answering questions or during their explanatory talks and also exceptionally friendly. Three floors of exhibits and artefacts. Well worth a visit for the whole family.

  • 3/5 Carolyn G. 4 years ago on Google
Check opening hours before you go lots of grass and picnic areas around for you to enjoy

  • 5/5 James H. 4 years ago on Google
A beautifully preserved house with a rich history - if you can catch an introductory talk before your walk around the house it's worth it. The grounds are large and beautiful, and if you follow the path up the large stone stairs directly opposite the house there's a beautiful trail into the woods with some interesting stone walls and features. There were quite a few people walking dogs and there's a café by the entrance. Parking is free, though its a rough and unpaved area which was a bit tricky on a wet day.

Lovely place. Parking is a bit of a nightmare if visiting during busy period.

  • 4/5 Steven A. 4 years ago on Google
Nice house and gardens to have a quick look around from the exterior. Haven't seen the interior or cafe as it was all closed (on a Saturday in November). As others have mentioned, it should be made more clear what is and isn't open. Double check the National Trust website opening hours before visiting.

Great Hall to visit with fascinating mixture of history and culture.

  • 4/5 Paul C. 4 years ago on Google
Small by stately home standards but well worth a visit. Located in a large park there are a couple of truly beautifull rooms but not a lot more. The entry price reflects this though. If in the area - go.
