I walked in to check in and being my second time, it was like walking into my home. Absolutely fabulous pub. I've stayed here for 5 nights and had a brilliant time with everyone. It's such a welcoming place and very well run. The room was great, plenty big enough with a private bathroom. Tea making facilities and a pot of porridge too. There's plenty going on in the pub during the week. I arrived on a Monday and it was Poker pizza night. There is also a pool table and TV's to watch your favourite sports. Have a few beers or a few shots of "Mini Guinness" and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in the bar. Even if your a solo traveller like me.... I felt very safe on my own drinking in the bar which made it more relaxing. Last but not least..... My only dislike is....other people complaining about the traffic. It is on a busy road and they can clearly see this on the map.

Really good lad Jon who owns the place made us feel really welcome. Room was warm, spacious, and really nice. Nothing was a problem and I would definitely recommend especially because Newcastle are going to Wembley!!! Come on !!!

So this place is rated as 2 star so I never expected it to be the marriott, the room was ok and basic for an overnight stay,I think of I had been given the choice of rooms or asked myself I would have picked a different room as the one I stayed in looked over the 4 way junction outside, being above a pub was never going to be a quiet nights sleep as I was kept awake from people shouting/talking outside on the street and the constant noise of traffic etc i think this is probably due to the building being old and the windows being wooden,I think from a couple of subtle changes the room could have been better ie cleaning behind the bed(litter and dust),tv bracket dusty, change to some nice bed sheets and pillows, the mattress was fine and comfortable, bathroom was very nice very clean, the owner was very accommodating and friendly.

What a cracking little stay! Arrived to a warm welcome by a lovely young lady who showed us to our room. Room was very clean and comfortable, basic but had everything we needed for the night. Had a few drinks in the pub downstairs before we headed out for the evening which was great, true northern pub great atmosphere, nice people! The landlord ordered a taxi for us as we were attending a wedding that evening, nothing was too much trouble. Would highly recommend well done to the castle for a lovely stay over.

Lovely well decorated pub with a very friendly landlord. The rooms are better than expected for the price, with the location being fantastic for exploring the surrounding area. Ignore anyone complaining about noise, this is to be expected as The Castle is next to a road, use a map before booking if this bothers you 🙄

Loved it. Great for an overnight stay in the town. Friendliest welcome from staff and locals alike. Real nice feel to the place. Rooms are good value for money. Good vibe in the bar. Short walk to the football ground if that’s your reason for staying.
