the britannia is a lovely place to go for food and drinks. me and my partner went on the off chance and im glad we did. The food is excellent we was sat in a quiet little corner near the kitchen the staff were pleasant and the food comes quickly and cooked. it's a little pricey for pub food but this isn't your average pub food. but I didn't mind as its really good quality and well presented. would definitely go back here. its the 3rd time now but always gets better. last time was when pubs reopened for outdoor dining in 2021 the britannia only had a limited menu then but service and quality was still there. glad we went back like I said its only gotten better for us. they accept dogs indoors too. all in all I would recommend the britannia full and a happy service. we'll done to all the staff at the britannia. 10/10.

The food here was terrible all frozen and microwaved, fish was soggy and mash frozen. Not much more i can say except that it was terrible. However the service was great and drinks were good too.

A very nice clean and tidy eatery with a warming and pleasant atmosphere. The meal choices are somewhat limited however there is enough to satisfy most and the quality is a high standard. Drinks are a bit pricey 😕 £8 for a large wine but that does seem to be the case nowadays. There is a choice of two children's menu's that are age related so your cherubs are well catered for. Well worth a visit and yes we shall return.

We had a lovely Sunday lunch here a couple weeks ago. I had the lamb and it was really lovely and cooked perfectly. For me though the nicest part of our visit (apart from the company) was the staff member. She was super lovely and very accommodating (we had someone with an allergy in our group) she double checked with the chef that the choices were ok for this person. I asked what she recommended for pudding and sticky toffee pudding was her suggestion... I'm glad she did recommend this as it was lovely! :)

Went this evening, after lunch last week I recommended it to friends. This time the service wasn't great, from ordering to getting the main courses, was almist 1 hour. You cannot fault the ambiance, lots of ££ clearly been spent in the place its lovely. Lots of staff front of house, but I think the back of house, in the kitchen was possibly very understaffed. Spoke to the young man in charge on the evening and gave him the feedback as above. Like I say nice place my food was lovely, but definitely a breakdown in communication between front and rear of house. Ian

Staff were great, so was the G+T, scampi was ok from a frozen pack, chips were greasy, and salad was rabbit food. Cheesecake with cream was nice but no flavour. Wont be going again!

Dog Friendly, and people friendly, with fantastic food. Nothing much more to say, the staff are fantastic, and the venue is tastefully refurbished, without feeling plastic. A true quality Lancastrian country pub.

Food was amazing, shame it was let down by the service. Waitress tried to remember the order instead of writing it down. Came back to the table to check and still received the wrong starter, so me and my partner ate starters at the different times. Also we ordered a side to come with the mains which arrived with the starters. We also asked another waitress twice for drinks before receiving them. Prawn starter, garlic mushroom starter, lamb shank and cheese and onion pie for main, with cheesy garlic bread, was all beautifully cooked, presented and tasted amazing! Fantastic chef!!!!

Quality service from the new owners from whitebull down the road. Cállum and staff very welcoming. Had the ribs for starter and a steak for mains . Fantastic and will return. Be mindful this has been took over again so disregard any reviews from before april 2023. If its there one thing I wish this place has done is to level the beer garden out on the carpark with maybe deckin etc as its too slanted JJ

Delicious Roast Beef Sunday lunch today. One of the nicest roasts I've eaten. The twice cooked beef melted in the mouth, the roast potatoes were crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. Great selection of vegetables and the Yorkshire pudding was amazing. I can throughly recommend and it's going to become one of our regular places to eat. My daughter had a steak which was cooked perfectly medium and her hand cut chips were crispy on the outside fluffy on the inside. *****

Unfortunately we were left a little underwhelmed. The menu boasts to be high end food but l left disappointed. The steak was over cooked to my requested medium rare, dried out too probably because of cooked over charcoal, not basted towards the end of cooking in butter with additions. It was served with stuffed shallots (which were not stuffed) and rocket. The side ordering situation is very confusing and not many of them go with the meat on offer, making it hard to choose from. Id prefer traditional accompaniments and a choice of potato. Or upgrade to indulgence sides. The arrival time for the food was much longer than we expected about 45 minutes but the place was pretty empty. There wasn't a dedicated team member per section meaning service was disjointed. My sides came out one by one after the meat was delivered, far from ideal. No juices were on the plate. The shallots are still a quandary to me. My partner ordered a burger which was average and smaller than expected, the burger bun was very dry. We ordered another drink but it never arrived. I did mention the steak quality/cook to the manager who gave a small discount but I'm not sure that I'd go back. When I pay £100> for food I expect a certain level of service and food quality. I was left disappointed that I'd paid a lot for something I regularly do better at home.

Great place to call in for after-work drinks on a Friday. Sampled the new food menu in August and whilst a tad pricey (for me) it clearly reflected the fresh ingredients, creative menu and high-quality food that was served. Minor issues with cleanliness of cutlery (water stains most likely) were resolved immediately and friendly service was provided. Looking forward to more meals here.

Mixed review because the food was good and the place is a nice place to be - we had a good meal. The service gets 2 stars because - we waited 1 hour for food - and there was a rowdy table who were a little offensive- we were concerned for other diners around us. Not rushing back.

Had a great meal at this place, finally restored back to the quality it used to be. The Sunday dinner was amazing with great quality meat served in a good amount, starters we had the French onion soup which was so tasty and the chicken wings. Definitely be coming back not only for the great food but the friendly staff and ultra dog friendly staff who made sure our pooch was looked after too.

We had a lovely meal here. The food was cooked beautifully and the service was really good. The restaurant is really comfortable & the bar is really cosy on winter’s night (sometimes have a fire going). I’ve never had any complaints with the food or service here: staff are always brilliant and friendly.

My meal of steak, that was perfectly cooked and seasoned followed by ice cream sundae was 5 stars. Wife's pot pie was very good but the sticky toffee pudding appeared to have been dried out so was tough. Advertised log burner was lovely looking but not lit and the room was a little chilly. I have visited the Britannia a number of times over the last couple of decades and notwithstanding the above slight issues this was the best it has been. All in all good value.

Nice clean bar/restraunt, very pleasant staff. I has fish and chips, lovely fish in Nice crispy batter. chips and peas could have done to be hotter as they were only luke warm, same for my wife who had steak and ale pie, again lovely hot tasty pie with lots of filling ,but chips only tepid. Young lady did offer to re-heat the chips but they were quite edible. That said we will go again sometime

Went for midweek lunch and the food was great. I had the braised liver with bacon and it was honestly first class. The young lady behind the bar was very attentive and the staff serving on were polite and friendly. Couldn't fault it and would recommend popping in.

Exceeds expectations. We had a table of 11, with some testing requests for the serving staff, but nothing was too much for the young man who served us and the staff were amazing accommodating. I cannot praise ther service enough, seriously. The food was really good too and all 11 of us walked away very happy. Will definitely be visiting again.

AFTERNOON TEA with friends. One of the very best. Vonny the chef is rightly proud of her delicious creations. The ham in the sandwiches is mouth watering. The Brie tartlet with pear and walnut is inspired. The chocolate brownie is well worthy of a Hollywood Handshake. There was flavour in every mouthful. We tried all the options between us (and shared nicely!) so we know they are all to be recommended. We will be back and bringing friends to share the enjoyment. Thank you Vonny and the other equally friendly staff.

Booked in advance but still waited over an hour for our starter. The main course was slow to appear and was cold when it did. We left the food and the venue. It ruined the birthday celebration.

My husband and I were visiting the area and someone recommended the Britannia for somewhere to eat good food. We liked it so much we ate there twice. Really good home cooked food and delicious homemade pies. Lovely environment and really nice staff, very attentive and nothing is too much trouble. Would highly recommend!

1st time been on ages... cheese and onion pie outstanding! Chocolate fudge pudding really good too. Serves an excellent pot of tea, although would be better if accompanied by a pot of hot water.

Very pleasant lunch, varied menu. Was a bit cold when we arrived but once the real fire took hold it was cosy.

We were a bit worried when we read about “small portions” from a previous reviewer. But honestly I had a huge, fresh, delicious chicken salad; my hubby had a tasty steak and ale pie - great pastry and generous meaty filling; my mother in law had a huge fish n chips. Overall great food for a fair price. Staff friendly, would come back again!

This was our first time at the Britannia. My husband and I can not put into words really, how great of an experience we had. From the atmosphere to the service to the food, it was just excellent. Can’t wait to go back.

First time we have been since reopening under new management. It's really welcoming and comfortable inside. Good choice at the bar. The service we received was excellent throughout. The food was delicious. The only thing stopping a 5 star review was one of our meals came out cold. But that was swiftly and courteously addressed by the great team. Thanks for a lovely time

We've been many times before and never had a bad meal, unfortunately I'm not sure if the chef struggled today as my beef in ale pie wasn't the same I'd had before. That said the staff really did try their best and were extremely helpful and apologies. I will be back and i hope you continue yiur great customer service x

I used to come here regularly, not been since it's been taken over. Enjoyed a nice meal of salmon followed by cheesecake and a coffee. The place is very inviting, love the log-burning fires, lovely in winter. Will definitely be returning soon.
