Enjoyable woodland walk with lots to see along the way, nice bridge's, small waterfalls, historic buildings, Reservoirs and scenic views.

Nice woodland walk. We did the circular route from visitors centre up to reservoir, then past the begining of Darwen Moors back down Sunnyhurst Lane. Was achievable for 6 and 3 year old. Tired them out nicely 😄 Next time will park near Moors entrance and head up to Darwen Tower, which was just visible through the clouds.

This is lovely area to walk with the family. Is also ideal for your dog. Never too busy and most of the other dog owners are responsible.

Had a fairly pleasant walk in the sun. I don't like the new paths stones are too big and hurt your feet. Lovely to hear the sound of birds singing. Saw some deer. Nice place for walking dogs and photographers.

Amazing public access woods, footpaths, streams, lake area, band stand, historical visitors centre. Cared for mainly by volunteers, some council investment. Minutes from the town centre by car, but a different world, with good access and from there, great walks onto the West Pennine Moors and Darwen Tower.

A great area of forest, streams, pools and various flora. Dogs are welcome, and people mostly keep them under control.

Natural Woodland. NOTE: NO BIKE'S Easy access from Blackburn road. Nothing commercial, perfect for a quiet walk away from the noise of the town/city. Hidden pieces of history can be discovered.. My brother, grandaughter and i went for a walk for an hour aprox, and according to my guide (my brother) only covered a small section of the woods!! A perfect excuse to explore more on another day. Visitor Centre situated in the woods and easily accessible.

I went to the woods with my grandson he loves going to the woods . We had a walk stopped at kiosk for a drink and snacks played on swings. Ducks wanted feeding but no food, but we did see a rat looking for food .

New found woodlands walk with a sad tinge of neglect. Things happened here in the 2000' but now left to be absorbed back to nature. Nice pond area probably built for interested school children now corded off due to safety. Boating lake full of silt and fallen tree branches and oversized dog sticks. Visitors centre showing on the signed post"open" but door locked and deserted. Looks like the friends of Sunnyhurst have moved on. Shame

Conveniently located near Darwen Town Centre, Sunnyhurst Woods is justifiably a beautiful place to visit for a meander through nature, or just a walk to contemplate life. Unlike most urban woods, Sunnyhurst seems to be very well maintained, with minimal rubbish, and it is home to a surprisingly large number of animal & plant species (Kingfishers can be found here if you're patient !) Although it doesn't look big on a map, the Woods are actually much larger than I thought, & to make a complete circuit of the woods could take at least 1.5 Hours ! The woods also have a Visitor Centre & Cafe - which seem to be nice places to visit - and definitely make the woods a more attractive as a half day out - but unfortunately they were closed on the September Sunday afternoon I visited - with no sign I could find explaining why. Hopefully this will change the next time I visit.

Such a shame, the significant drop in the river's water level. Several places have been allowed to silt up, reducing the water level to inches. The main waterfall was reduced to a trickle, hardly the photogenic view photographer's look for. Still, Autumn is on its way and one of the best times of the year, when Sunny Hurst Wood puts on an awesome display of colours. Still worth a visit.

Excellent place for exercise or dog walking etc. Lots of bins for dog waste (so no excuses!!). Only knocked a star of as some paths are dangerous in places with big drops. It's the result of previous landslides that have been pinned back up. Just beware if you take small children up on the higher paths....

Great place for a walk when the weather's nice. Very hilly so bear that mind before setting off. Little cafe there with inexpensive drinks etc on sale. Not too much for young children (few swings) but great for a peaceful amble.

Lovely place to while away an hour or so and to enjoy nature at it's best. Streams meandering here and there. "Paddling pool" near the cafe. Beautiful trees coming into bloom.

Lovely woodland walk, you can access Sunnyhurst Res which then leads up to Darwen Tower. The Kiosk is available for weddings, there's also a small house that hosts frequent craft & art exhibitions Bit of a shame that the Himalayan Balsam has been allowed to run riot though.

Great place to walk with or without a dog. A walk of contrasts. Sheltered on a bad day. Use the disabled entrance to avoid steep paths up and down and so can have a walk mainly on the flat. Streams for kids to splash in. Paths are suitable for wheelchairs and buggies. Great any time of the year.

I absolutely love walking my dog here! Car park is very small (has a bin) but there is plenty of street parking nearby. Lovely pram and wheelchair friendly walks and some a little off the beaten track for explorers. Lots of interesting things to see and a small stream running through to add to the lovely nature sounds. Lots of benches and bins on main paths and some picnic benches. There is a large building that accommodates private functions. Drinks and ice cream/chocolate/crisps etc can be bought from a small kiosk at side but they WILL NOT let you use hand washing facilities. Small building with toilets which are clean but no hot water, soap or hand drying facilities. Highly recommeded for people of all ages!

👍👍 Darwen has a number of parks each of which with their own special character. Bold Venture in turn has the remarkable World War memorial which commands a dominant spot in front of the lake. The lake itself is a peaceful place to sit and watch the ducks and swans. Walking through the park you can get...
