The customer care here is amazing. All the staff we met were happy to help. Thie farm visit is perfect for kids day out. You can but a bag of animal feed to feed some of the animals for 50p a bag. There is petting time a few times. The place has wide gravelled paths to walk around. There is free parking.

Love it here, so much to do and see. The animals are all well cared for, the play areas are great, outside space is lovely for a walk around. There's a tractor ride up to the top field for £1.50 each and you get to feed the horses and donkeys which is lovely. Loved feeding the animals, especially the baby animals in spring and there are loads of well stocked hand washing stations around. Really enjoyed watching the cows being milked and then buying an ice cream later on. There's a little shop which I'd not seen before selling dairy from the farm, saw the ladies making the butter today so bought one to try. Pony riding and the little reptile house are great too.

Both my sons (8 & 15) and I absolutely love this place. The staff are lovely, friendly and very helpful if you need them for anything. There are so many activities for the whole family to do and such a fun day out. The animals are all so amazing, friendly and well looked after. No matter how often we go, it’s like the first time all over again. The staff deserve recognition and praise for all they do and their dedication in making this farm, the wonderful place it is. Thank you for giving us lots of smiles and aww moments ☺️

Absolutely loved our visit today at Smithalls Open Farm. Lots of lovely animals. Which we got to feed for £1 which I think is more than reasonable. Accessible toilets. The farm itself was in my opinion mostly accessible. Minor improvements need to be made to some of the paths.

Fabulous farm. Love the interactivity for children - from animal feed (and *all* the animals wanted it) to petting farm shows that included everybody every time, to animal talks, tractor rides, donkey rides. I particularly loved the milking demonstration and windows into the dairy rooms so the children could see how the milk is used. They even make and sell their own ice cream. It was a brilliant day. The staff were informative, friendly, happy to be there and spoke with interest to the children. We came on a recommendation but I have similar farm parks near my house and this was by far the best. More interactivity for less price. We will be back, again and again!

Great day out for the family. Donkeys rides, tractor rides, holding baby chicks and rabbits. Big play area and picnic area. Lots of animals to see. Toilets, cafe, ice cream and gift shop all availble, also a dairy shop where they sell items made on the farm. Brilliant place for the kids.

Absolutely love this place. We brought our friend visiting from Germany. She Absolutely loved it as did us and our toddler. Bottle fed lambs, held chick's and guinea pigs. Met lots of amazing animals. Highly recommend the tractor ride and the ice cream! And the new kids play area is fantastic!

LOVE Smithills Farm! I think this is the 3rd time my family and I have visited. Every time, the whole family has so much fun. When booking (online), I recommend buying your animal feed and tractor ride as the feed is vital for the experience. They have many animals you can feed from Alpacas to baby lambs 🥲 the animals are extremely friendly and we’ve never had a problem with them taking food out of your hand very gently. Even toddlers can feed them. The tractor ride is definitively fun for the little ones, and even the adults. Highly recommend the “meet the baby animals” sessions. The staff come round with all the newborn animals and give you chance to hold them, while also teaching some fun facts! Cafe has nice staff and a good selection of food and drinks. Highly recommend as a day out for adults who love animals, or a family day out.

This is a fantastic and truly amazing experience for everyone. My kids love it as much as I do! This farm is truly one of the best days out you can give a child in the North West. Visit this place. It's great value for the experience you gain. You can wander around, feed animals, learn about dairy farming with a milking demonstration. They have live demos all over the place. They show you how milk is produced. They make their own milkshakes, butter and ice cream which you can sample on site. You can buy not only gifts such as teddies and toys in the gift shop, but fresh eggs from ducks, pheasant and chickens amongst other produce. Visit the café for lunch. Take a tractor ride, feed the donkeys. Sit in the pet corner and handle the rabbits, hamsters, chick's, lambs, goats, owls...even snakes! Have a donkey ride! You can spend the entire day here. My kids love this and they will remember it for years to come. I believe this farm is as close to the most perfect day you can spend as a family. Make some memories. Visit it....It's fantastic.

Really good farm, plenty to see and do from donkey rides, to a tractor ride out to feed horses and donkeys. Pets Corner is brilliant too. Can even watch the cows be milked. Has a big play area inside the ground which is fab. Plenty of toilets.

Good place for going with youngsters. With the price of the ticket, you have food for the animals. There is a small playground too. Riding on the tractor is nice fun for kids especially feeding donkeys at the end of the trip. Sadly is quite short :( The Easter egg hunt was really fun and the whole staff was great! But closing ice creams and shop at 4:40 when you close at 5 pm is ridiculous.

Excellent experience. Lots of signs telling you what you can and cannot do. Lots of animals even in winter. Staff always around to answer questions. Buggy friendly. Wheelchair friendly. Decent sized car park. Food on-site.

You need to book online during the summer holidays. You can't just turn up, or you will be turned away. There is a large car park and an overfill . The entrance is easy to find and is accessible for wheelchairs. This is a working farm, so no dogs are allowed on the farm. There are toilets, lots of areas to wash your hands, a café, a shop with toys like farm yard animals, an ice cream shop, and two play areas. Things you have to pay extra for is the tractor ride £1.50 per person, food for the animals if you wish to feed them, and the donkey rides.

Visiting Smithills Farm proved to be a delightful experience, enhanced further by the wonderful weather we had on the day. Spanning just over three hours, our adventure through the farm allowed us to explore a rich variety of activities and sights. The farm presents an impressive array of animals, a feature that stands out prominently. From domestic to more exotic species like llamas and alpacas, the animal variety kept us engaged throughout our visit. The donkey rides were a standout, offering both fun and great photo opportunities. While the tractor ride was relatively brief and focused mainly on the donkey area, it added a rustic touch to our visit. Children and adults alike will find the play areas wonderful. They are well-maintained and offer a great space for kids to enjoy themselves, providing a balanced visit with both learning and play involved. A highlight of our visit was the interactive sessions that allowed us to get hands-on experience with some of the smaller animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, and chicks. The engagement with the animals was both educational and fun, offering a chance to learn while getting up close and personal with the farm’s smaller inhabitants. What added a cherry on top of our delightful visit was the opportunity to interact with the farm’s star attractions, the goats, llamas, and alpacas. These sessions not only brought joy but were a great learning experience, especially for younger visitors, offering them a chance to understand and appreciate the animals better. In conclusion, our visit to Smithills Farm was a harmonious blend of education and entertainment. The beautiful weather, coupled with the vibrant atmosphere of the farm, made our day both joyful and memorable. Whether it’s the great play areas or the opportunity to interact closely with a wide variety of animals, Smithills Farm offers something for everyone and stands as a great outing destination for families.

Absolutely amazing farm experience from an animal perspective. A bit rough and ready but in a very good way. Great place to go not long after lambing and calling season. And very randomly a reptile house with massive snakes!!!

I love it here! I have been many of times, with and without children. It’s a great family day out or also great if you just adore animals as much as I do. They all seem very well looked after and you get the opportunity to interact with some of them, feed most of them. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable about the animals

Today is a rainy day. We took the train to Bolton. We have been studying in the UK for three years. For the first time, we felt the enthusiasm of the British in this small town. The bus driver was very enthusiastic. They were very concerned about whether we could find the farm, and they showed us the way before arriving at the station, which is a happy place. The farm animals are very happy and healthy, once again sighing at the level of agricultural mechanization in the UK! Visited the process of milking the cows, it is worth mentioning that the milk here is very fresh!I will come back next time

I take the kids quite often to Smithills. It’s a great day out for a few hours. They get to hold baby animals in pets corner which they love. Mine love feeding the goats for some reason. Food there is good. Plenty of space to eat. They love the Donkey rides too. They are constantly adding to the place so there will be new animals coming too.

Been here years ago with the kids and it was a great day out. I'm voting 5 stars as we get the milk and eggs delivered from here and it's easily the best tasting milk I've had since I was a child back in the 80's. Don't care how much it costs its worth every penny. The eggs are so fresh that you can make perfect poached eggs every time. I'll never go back to super market milk ever.

Had a great day out here last Monday. The farm is easy enough to get to and the car park is quite large so no problem parking. We booked online but when we got there you could pay on the door anyway. The farm itself is quite large with plenty of things to do and an abundance of animals to meet. They also offer donkey and tractor rides for £1.50 each. You can get quite upclose and personal with some of the animals so I would reccomend buying some feed to keep them interested. It is a full working dairy farm so you get to watch the cows get milked, the milk get pasteurised, bottled and then sample some of the finished products at the end in the form of ice creams, butter and milk.

While not a visit to the farm which always seems busy. Me and Beagle passed through the middle of the farm using the "public right of way". Beagle got excited as she had spotted squirrels in a field. It's only as we got closer she became astonished they were bigger than her! I still have not had the hart to explain what a wallaby is! 😃

We love smithills! Staff are all friendly and are happy to answer any questions about the animals. Ice cream is delicious and a very good price. We’ve eaten in the cafe before and the meals are nice and filling. The new park is brill, we’ve been many times before but we spent a lot of time on the new park today and my 2 year old loved it. Animals are fab, they’re happy to be fed and stroked. Every time we come, we buy a ticket to ride the tractor, and every time we come we end up not going on the tractor because we’re too busy with everything else 😂

The petting zoo is my favourite; you get too meet many animals and at the end you can pet animals such as Guinea pigs rabbits and chicks. It’s great. I’d recommend you not to come on a rainy day though it was blistering cold. Still enjoyable; will be returning! 🤩🤩🤩🤩

I attended with my daughter's class as a chaperone. The place was fantastic. The kids all loved the activities and absorbed everything Gabby had to say. Gabby was lovely. So good with the kids and friendly. My daughter got hurt on playground and she was absolutely fantastic with her. Had her smiling and forgetting her bump in no time. Gabby personally did an accident form and gave her an ice pack. My daughter really appreciated the attention. Definitely want to return with my family.

Brilliant day out. Lovely helpful and friendly staff who clearly love their jobs. Well cared for animals. Lots to do. Only improvement would be for children with autism : perhaps an autism hour at beginning of day when quieter as my son couldn't manage the queue for tractor ride. Maybe a quiet chilled area (which could also be nice for feeding and sleepy infants). Thanks, we will be back!

Amazing place ran by amazing people. I've been with my family so many times and there's something new every time we go. A great place for all seasons and all holidays. So many happy animals to see and learn about. My son could not believe he saw a wallaby! The staff work so hard and are so friendly and knowledgeable. There's plenty going on whether it's Easter, Halloween, Christmas, or summer. The ice cream is amazing and it's fantastic to see it go from cow to cone in front of you. I love bringing my family here and will do forever. The place is a national treasure and everyone should visit.

I’m really disappointed after visiting the farm today as I’ve heard so many good things about it but a lot of the pictures/reviews online are really misleading. Its extremely obvious the lack of love and care their animals receive from the state of their enclosures and their poor miserable faces just broke my heart. Calves separated from their mothers to be shoved in tiny pens (and I mean tiny), the raccoons (which are so not needed at a farm anyway) pacing their cages from lack of enrichment and stress and about 5 huge owls in basically a box enclosure with no room to fly or anything. There was one small white deer all alone in a small enclosure and I could have cried how sad it looked. Not only that but the chicks and rabbits that are there to pet are thrown around to different families all day while the ONE staff member runs round like a headless chicken trying to keep everyone sat down (COVID rules) and not just go about doing whatever the hell they want- which there was a lot of. The poor girl was so overwhelmed I nearly felt like taking over for her. The rabbit I was given to pet looked exhausted from the constant poking and prodding all day from young children and I so very nearly took him home it was heartbreaking. Like I get it- it’s a fun day out with the kids and it’s all very exciting seeing the animals but the staff had no control (virus or no virus) over the way their small animals were handled and the poor guys can’t get a break. They must be traumatised. If the treatment of the animals wasn’t bad enough the whole day is extremely expensive considering the main ‘events’- donkey rides (which I definitely don’t agree with) and the tractor ride had ridiculous ques and we had to pay for the tractor ride before hand which we were never able to do because let’s face it trying to que up for 30-40 minutes with a one year old is near impossible. Overall I would have much preferred my visit if it was obvious the animals were better looked after but the way the animals at Smithills are kept is disgusting and they have more than enough money to do a lot better seen as it’s extortionate anyway!!

Not enough measures put in place for social distancing when doing the pumpkin picking activity. We had our lunch in the play barn. Approximately 12 highchairs, every one was filthy. Food on the floor and tables and bins not emptied from day before. Farm opened at 10, this was 11.15 Wouldnt recommend it

Have visited the farm many times, it's great at Halloween, there's a spooky walk where the children can try to spot the monsters hiding. The pets corner is brilliant, where you can hold chicks, rabbits, see owls, puppies, alpacas and emus. A recommended day out for the family or even just adults, there's a cafe onsite which is very reasonable and have a great selection of homemade treats and sandwiches. Have sampled the ice-cream in the past, would recommend getting one or even buying some for the freezer. Lots of other activities on a usual day include donkey rides and tractor rides. The staff are always smiling and very friendly.

What an amazing farm. We went on a school trip today and everyone was so friendly and all the children had an amazing time with lots to do. If you go with your child without school its an amazing place with lots to do. Highly recommended

Great local day out with young children. Tractor rides, getting up close with farm animals. Indoor play, pumpkin picking (seasonal) and delicious ice cream. Reasonably priced for a great afternoon out.

An ok day out. The animals farm are lovely and well cared for, especially pet corner and seeing the working farm. Feeding the goats and handling the rabbits were highlights for us. The tractor ride is good too, although a bit short and sweet at £6 for a family of 4, it only lasts 5/10mins. The owl, reptile and other exhibits were very drab and looked uncared for. The eagle owls were in a tiny enclosure and the raccoon looked a bit depressed. The icecream is to die for though, well worth a pit stop to their icecream parlour

Amazing experience, super clean farm with many facilities for hand washing, so many animals, even kangaroos! My kid loved also the tractor ride!

Overall my grandson enjoyed it as kids do, especially the tractor ride. The area they could improve is their eating areas they were very dirty and not well maintained. Great ice cream on the way out and ample parking as well

Always a great place to visit. Animal petting and feeding, tractor and donkey rides and a great playground. Lots of places to eat your own picnic inside or outside and all for a great price. We'll be back.

👍👍 Private safe space to rent. Very reasonably priced £5/half hour (3 dogs). It has training equipment but at the moment it's a bit of a bog... To be expected. Wear wellies. The dogs couldn't care less! They had a fab time. Poo bags and water available. Pay by cash which you put in the lock box or by P...
