Beautiful and serene high altitude lake. Aparently you can't swim or kayak in the lake though, due to Alkaline levels, and it being a sight of special environmental interest.

We walked all the way round, an easy pleasent walk. You can escape the crowds, plenty of places to park, lovely countryside.

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful place. So quiet that it’s beyond belief. It was built as a reservoir. It is quite big however very shallow. Around the lake the temperature drops by few degrees because of the wind and open space. Make sure you have extra layer of clothing with you, especially out of the summer months. Loads of boulders to sit on around. If you don’t fancy walking from Malham National Park Centre, there’s a car park nearby. Highly recommended place to Visit if you want a bit of silence and peace.

Absolutely stunning views. Me and my girlfriend have walked for hours and were amazed by the incredible sceneries. It feels like being in another world, a very ancient one.

Love the space and peace. Went on school holidays but not many people about. Parked on top and walked anti clockwise. Including the boardwalk and bird hide, it took around two hours.

Imagine a place where the earth meets water at one of its highest points, with a panaromic view of the Yorkshire Dales to greet you. This goes a small way to convey the magic of Malham Tarn and the surrounding area. It's an easy wander from the car park. If you're able and have good mobility (and decent walking shoes and layers) do continue on to the idyll that is Malham Cove. I've also done reviews of the Cove and the 'Watersink car park'.

Very nice place to have a walk as far as you could possibly walk in a day as it's part of the dales way. The whole area is stunning

A great place to walk. There is a small car park serving both the tarn and the cove which is free. A small stretch of the path is part of the Pennine Way. A toilet is available at the Field Centre, which also has a small information room on the fauna and flora that can be seen. At the far end of the path is a circular board walk.

It’s a beautiful place to come and relax. You are not allowed to swim/Kayak/paddle board here. It is one of only 2 Alkaline lakes in the whole of Europe with a unique biodiversity that could get disrupted by human contamination.

Lovely scenery and walks, great for photography. As it was so nice we visited the tarn a few times during our stay in Malham. Especially nice early or late after the crowds have gone. But watch those midges in the evening.

Although the weather was quite dull, it was a lovely peaceful place to visit. The boardwalk was a nice detour. Look out for the wooden carvings.
