Visited on one of the regular steaming days. The tour was really interesting, the history and how the engines work was explained in an easy to understand way. Finished the afternoon with a coffee and cake in the tea room.

Two magnificent steam mill engines that operate every month. With some operating industrial weaving looms. A well presented volunteer run museum. Well worth a visit, I could have spent a lot longer there!

Excellent, friendly, interesting. However! Make sure you google beforehand if you want to see the engines, boiler etc operating as this only occurs on 'steaming days' about once every few months.

We were shown round and everything explained. It was quiet so other staff members told us about their jobs too.

Dropped in on the off-chance when passing today. Very interesting with knowledgeable and really enthusiastic volunteers. Wish you every success with fundraising for the chimney and other projects. Hope to visit another time when you are in full steam.

Visited today on a non-steam day. Andy, assisted by other volunteers showed and explained everything to us in great detail, which we (2 persons) had not expected they would have time for, as they were obviously working on maintaining the machines. We were shown not only the main engine house (with "Mary Jane" and "James"), but also "Prosperity" (another compound steam engine in a shed) and also the 2 boilers (Lancashire and Cornish) and given full explanations. And then finally 3 kinds of looms. I would just say that the enthusiam and willingness of the volunteers to maintain engines on this scale is amazing. Hats off to all involved! It states on the website that on non-steam days it is free to visit, but I would urge everyone who does visit to donate some money, however small, as this is funded only by donations. A big thanks for an exceptional tour!

What a fantastic place to visit! The engine is an amazing sight, still running smoothly and quietly after almost a hundred years. Nothing is too much trouble for the volunteers who all seem to be very knowledgeable about the cotton weaving industry. There is a second steam engine that is in the process of being restored to working order and this is a very rare sight indeed. Altogether a fascinating experience and a great learning opportunity for anybody interested in local history.

Interesting exhibits. If you go on the right day they are working. Only small but a lovely village and great walks in the area. Check opening times before going. Covid closures operating at present.

Excellent working museum, lots to see on a steam day. Very knowledgeable helpful and chatty staff. Informal but informative. Great atmosphere, very impressive engines and weaving looms. Nice, basic cafe. Very dog friendly, treats given. Well worth the mile walk from the canal to visit.
