The Hyde Park Picture House is a Leeds institution, and it's great to see it open again after a Β£4.8 million refurbishment which took eight years. First opened in 1914, the HPPH is the last surviving gaslit cinema in the world. The refurbishment includes a brand new extension to the original building to house a cafΓ©/bar on two levels and a disabled lift, fully restored interior (the new seats are much better), and a 50-seat second screen. The main auditorium is a wonderful space to enjoy the new varied film programme; there's even a balcony, for the complete nostalgic cinema experience. It's well worth a visit!

Beautifully restored Edwardian cinema. Well worth a visit for the architecture and interior alone. Very reasonably priced films too.

Beautifully refurbished old style picture house. Comfortable seating and welcoming staff. The lift doesn't go to the balcony, so would recommend ground floor if you have accessibility needs.

Fantastically renovated. The impression is to be in another era, as in Midnight in Paris. I really enjoyed watching The Old Oak by Ken Loach. I also had a glass of good red wine before the film. That's absolutely perfect.

Historic cinema operating since 1914 being the only working gaslight picture house in the world! Friendly welcome with a small coffee shop and comfy seating. Refurbishment this autumn so check opening times!

A fantastic cinema that has a great respect for film, and a brilliant programme of movies. The perfect setting for a good film.

So pleased to be back at the HPH. Cinema perfection. Bit more space downstairs now following the refurbishment, and better seats, but still the same lovely experience. Staff are delightful too and alcohol free beer served (and the alcoholic type).

The best independent cinema! Didn't think I'd like it after the renovations as I was worried it'd loose its charm. It hasn't. It's still great. The service. The staff. The choice of films. The atmosphere. The refreshments. It's all just great. If you haven't been, go! You won't regret it.

Absolutely stunning following its refurbishment, the picture house is well worth a visit if you're in or around Leeds.

Went last night to see Priscilla- 1730 showing - it was busy in screen 2 - and warm with so many people in. However the theatre is beautiful- refurbished to a high standard and the staff very welcoming. There is a small bar with snacks but quite a bit of seating dotted about . This is our 3rd visit and can say it’s a firm favourite.

We went to watch May December and the Picture House itself was brilliant, it had been renovated to a high standard and the experience in that sense was really positive. Our only downside was the customer service experienced before and after the film, the staff were not as friendly as you would have hoped and seemed reluctant to offer guidance when requested. Overall the experience was a very good one but we believe there is room for improvement in regard to the service provided.

I miss this place so much,my favourite neighbourhood cinema and one of the constants of my18 years spent in Leeds. Watching any film here was a privilege. I cannot wait to see the renovations .

Excellent cinema, which I have been going to for over 35 years. Wonderful friendly atmosphere. Shows independent films that are often not on anywhere else locally. I like to buy a coffee there before the performance. The place has a sense of its own history, which I like. It is a traditional one screen cinema, of which there are do few left, and worth going to for that reason alone. Occasionally has special cinema events there that are worth going to, but these often quickly sell out, so you need to book tickets quickly; otherwise tickets are usually available on the day without too much problem away from peak times. They have an excellent website to check performance times.

Absolutely delightful. I've been coming here for more than 45 years. Although I'd recommend maybe going to a multiplex for the latest action blockbuster, I'd come here for everything else. It feels like you're watching a film with friends. The screen is compact compared to an IMAX, but it is super sharp, and the sound quality is breathtaking - set up for clarity of music and speech clarity, not bass heavy for rumbling explosions. Also it's nice to buy a bottle of wine from the concessions kiosk and sip away at it whilst watching the film. A real treasure of a place.

Wonderfully beautiful art deco cinema. Wonderfully friendly workers, many of whom are volunteers, doing it for love.

Absolutely incredible 100+ year old cinema, an amazing experience to visit, the architecture and how well the building is kept is worth the visit alone. They run many very cool, different and interesting films from around the world, and the food/drink is very reasonably priced compared to big commercial cinemas. Well worth a visit, I'll be returning, soon.
