Is not worth visiting, most of the things contained here were took out years ago, when the Villa was sold. So there is not much to see inside, if you compare with any other place in Rome. The gardens are nothing special. There are almost no pieces of fine art inside. Mostly replicas or modern art (made this same year). The guide was super nice and explained things. And you have amazing views of Rome.

This is one of the nicest Villa’s I’ve ever visited, they offer tours of the place so I recommend booking in advance. It can be busy and you’re not always guaranteed to get in. So plan accordingly, the grounds are very well kept and prepared, there’s lots to see and do in and around this area. I really enjoyed my time here and I would definitely recommend checking it out.

Well worth the visit to see a fabulous old villa. With an amazing view of Rome. The rooms are interesting in that they are decorated by members of the French Academy( the owner of the estate) so this is not your typical tour of an old residence. There are lots of architectural features to see, the spiral stair is a photographers dream. If anything I would want to see more of the interior. We bought our tickets at the door and only had to wait 10 minutes for the tour to begin.

Amazing full of history villa with a gorgeous Italian style garden and maze. The English speaking guide (with a very strong Italian/Romano accent 😁) was very informative and attentive of the group, providing details that were connected even to the country of origin of some of the visitors in the group. From the Garden you can enjoy an exceptional view of Rome (Vittoriano, Basilica di San Pietro and so forth). I highly recommend the visit, just be careful of the stairs 🙃)

We had a lovely tour of the gardens and a few rooms inside. Beautiful, and not loaded down with tourists like other popular spots in Rome. Our guided tour was about 90 minutes long.

The Villa Medici is one of the most interesting places to visit in Rome. The façade of this great palazzo includes many Roman works of sculpture that were discovered in the Renaissance. The gardens are extensive and include both ornamental and medicinal plants. Though only three rooms are available for public viewing it is still worth a visit. You will also find in the villa special exhibits. When I was there there was an exhibit on the art of sketching which you could view at an additional price. Plan on two hours. You will need to reserve a time to visit the gardens and villa which can be done online. In addition to the gardens and main house, there are outbuildings that are included in the tour. As the home of the Academy, you have the opportunity to visit the sculpture studio that was a hub of activity since it was acquired by Napoleon. Great views of Rome.

I was impressed by the interiors and the inner facade of Villa Medici and of course the panoramic view of Rome from that point. The guide (EN) was very charismatic, sensitive and with artistic vibe! :) Our visit was 07.13 at 16.30. I highly recommend to visit the museum with (this particular :) guide because otherwise you won't get the full picture of this amazing place.

If you go here without booking a tour guide (i Guess that what will give you some additional access) it is a waste of money and time. Part of garden i saw was not impressive at all - there was also a special exhibition of 6 “cabins” that was not very good and there is only 2 rooms within the building with exposition of modern art. you dont get to see anything of the architecture of this building. All signs are either in french or italian

(Translated by Google) In antiquity, the gardens of Lucius Lucullus stretched on this place. There was also a villa where the Empress Messalina, the wife of Emperor Claudius, died. In the Middle Ages, the whole area was given over to vineyards. In 1576, the slope of Pinizio was acquired by Cardinal Ferdinando Medici (the future ruler of Florence), who commissioned Bartolomeo Ammanati to build for himself a villa in the then fashionable style of Mannerism. This was the first estate of the Medici family in the Eternal City. With the death of the last Medici in 1737, the villa passed into the possession of the Lorraine dynasty. Napoleon Bonaparte handed it over to the French Academy in Rome, and the recipients of the Roman Prize have lived there ever since. This is their dormitory and workshops, as well as the office of the French Academy. During the construction works, a significant number of ancient antiquities were discovered, which are exhibited in the garden. Another one hundred and seventy ancient statues and fragments were purchased from Roman aristocrats by the cardinal to decorate the villa. The most significant exhibits - the so-called. "Medici vase" (I century) is made in the tradition of Praxiteles, the statue of Venus Medici (I century BC) - were transported in the XVIII century in the Uffizi (Florence), giving rise to the local collection of antiquities.

The Villa Medici is located next to the Borghese gardens and houses the French Academy in Rome. Its gardens are not accessible to the public except with guided groups. Anyway, we visited its toilets, as you will have understood from my other posts I have a small bladder. :)

Guided tour required to visit the gardens and interiors, but it's not really impressive, not worth the time or money. Villa Medici is a Mannerist palace and garden, founded by Ferdinando I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany. Over the centuries it passed into the ownership of Napoleon and now the French State. It has housed the French Academy in Rome since 1803. Winners of a competition organized by the French Academy receive a stipend and are given a cabin in the gardens for a year to practice their art.

Doesn't worth it. We took exhibition tickets without a guide for 8€ and you can see the whole place in 20 minutes. Very random place, the strangest I've been in. Probably 80% of the Villa was closed, it looked larger and very small part of it was accessible, including the garden.

Bellissima villa situata in uno dei punti strategici di Roma,e tra i più alti per godersi il panorama. Forse un pò sopravvalutata rispetto ad altre ville, forse complice il fatto che sia francese. Villa Medici is a very nice Palace, full of history, in a beautiful location, Scalinata di Trinità dei Monti, of one of the beautiest city all over the world: Roma. The owner is the Academy of France which send there the best new artist the winner of arts’ scholarships. Is possible to visit with a guide the building, the rooms, the apartments and the large park, with all the statues, pictures, and the very special “Padiglione degli Uccelli”, a little building, a Casino, completely frescoed in naturalistic way with a lot of birds and trees. All over the beauties preserved in this casket of arts, is the location itself that deserves a visit. It’s possible to sleep in one of theirs room for some days, but only previously booked.

They are very strict with the time slot of the reservation. You cannot go in early and you cannot go in without the reservation. Your reservation comes with the guided tour, just make sure to book in the language of your choice; offered in French, Italian and English. The tour guide was out of sight, she was wonderful and very knowledgeable. I would recommend the tour guide, if you can, she was fantastic and very knowledgeable. Villa Medici is now an art institute, but the history and art collection was amazing. It was very nice to be rich. It was worth the price of admission.

Although the views are great you get the same ones at many places around Rome.Disappointed that there was no audio guide as it was difficult to hear the guide. Also surprised that 25 of us, some coughing up a lung, were taken into a small room to admire some frescoes. We didn’t go in. We are still in COVID mode. Spent to much time outside where there was not much to see. Limited time inside and looked like the focus of the tour was more post Medici French rather than Medici in their prime.

This a beautiful palace, hosting the French Academy. The guide tour is strongly recommended for fully appreciating the beauty of the place and of the works of art it contains. There is a beautiful garden with statues from other Roman buildings and the interiors have been restored to their ancient appearance. It is also out of the most common touristic tours even if it's at walking distance from places like piazza di spagna, etc.

We took the English speaking tour and were a bit disappointed. The guide had a heavy Italian accent and did not know many many words when trying to describe the family and building. That, and the content of the presentation left us with unanswered questions about how the family amassed it's wealth, what their income steam was, how many staff they had, etc. The building and grounds are very impressive, but much of it is off limits. I got the impression we are just another part of today's income stream to keep the place afloat. I don't recommend this tour.

(Translated by Google) Current seat of the French Academy, Bonaparte transferred it there after the purchase, it belonged to the Lorraine and even earlier to Ferdinando de Medici, in Roman times there were the Lucullian gardens, the excavated material was placed in the villa by Ferdinando dei Medici who made an outdoor exhibition of the statues he had found, now fortunately recovered and Roman partly in the Lanzi Loggia, partly in the Uffizi. from the villa you can enjoy a view of divine Rome, it is located next to or next to Piazza di Spagna, you can reach it by metro stopping in Spagna, a reservation is required for the visit. completion with historical information In Rome there was Villa Medici, commissioned by Cardinal Ferdinando dei Medici and built by the Florentine architect Buontalenti. The villa insisted on the ruins of the Horti Luculliani and was adorned with gardens in the simple and elegant Florentine manner. And in the villa were found statues, tombstones, they adorned the garden, but when the Medici assumed power in Florence he also brought the Venus with him now in the gallery of the Uffizi, the Venus had perhaps been purchased by the cardinal on the antiques market in Rome and came from , perhaps, from Villa Adriana to Tivoli. It was inherited by the Lorraine, who brought all the antiquities to Florence, except the tombstones that are walled into the building. The building now belongs to the French republic which has installed an art academy there. Absolutely lovely! The guide was great, presenting an unbiased view over the rich history of this building. I’ve always wanted to visit it, to see this space so loved (and built) by prominent art collectors and influential figures. The guide (in English) gave us so many details regarding the art collection, the gardens, and the rooms. Absolutely beautiful and interesting! The presence of contemporary art exhibitions brought a charming fusion of Italian Renaissance, modernism, and contemporary (even 2023) art. Thank you, dear guide! (Sorry for the photos, they don’t really represent Villa Medici, but it seems I can’t share others)

You must book a tour to see this site! After climbing the Spanish steps, we popped over to visit the Villa Medici. Normally, the Medici are associated with Florence, but we learned all about this villa's storied past on our 90 minute walking tour. A major highlight was actually the section of the tour where we enjoyed the amazing view of Rome. The tour guide walked us through the evolution of the city since the 1500s. Finding our way around was a lot easier after that! The only thing disappointing was that much or the Villa is owned by the accademie française and much of it is not accessible to the public.

Orient Express exhibition at the Villa Médicis Académie de France is an exhibition that I was counting the days for. I went there on the opening day, March 17, 2023. Villa Médicis is situated at the top of the Spanish steps. When one walks up the steps at Piazza di Spagna, it is down the street, on the left. The exhibition is curated by Eva Gravayat and Arthur Mettetal, and co-produced by the Fonds de notation Orient Express and the Recontres d’Arles festival. The train Orient Express was a railway company: the Compagnie internationale des wagons-lits (CIWL). The CIWL railway company linked the East to the West and the destination was Constantinople (modern day Istanbul), which was the capital of the Ottoman Empire. The orient Express train was a global “cultural icon.” This exhibition shows the importance of the Orient Express, that it was the first luxury train. The exhibition also has important details about the production of the train. There are blueprints, photos, the information on the warehouse where the train was built. There are maps, the train’s routes, marketing posters, advertisement photos, and photo of the tourism agency that booked the train tickets. There is a section on Agatha Christie’s book, Murder on the Orient Express, and the movie adaptation of the book, “Murder on the Orient Express,” had posters of the film. There are also additional photos of the actors on the Orient Express train. What an incredible journey it must have been for the railway company! They started with an idea of a luxurious train; they created its plans and made an idea reality, not knowing its journeys from West to East and East to West would inspire stories for literature and movies. All parts of the exhibition was very interesting. As example, there is a photo of the “Agence de voyages Wagon- Lits, 3 place de l’Opera a Paris,” from 1886. It is a photo of the curve of a building, at the street corner, with a long and narrow white poster. It writes, “THE INTERNATIONAL SLEEPING CAR” and “EUROPEAN EXPRESS TRAIN COMPANY.” The street lamp in the photo reminds one of Haussmann, remodeling Paris in the 19th century, and adding street lights. There is a crowd in front of this building probably waiting for the agency to open it’s door for ticket sales. There is a horse carriage strolling by the agency, between two street lights on the street. Another favorite was the1930 poster of Simplon- Orient Express (chemins de for Paris - Lyon- Mediterranée), by Roger Borders. The poster has a large orange mosque. There is a body of blue water of Bosphorus, and many small and big ships. There is a large patch of green behind the waterside palaces and homes. The writing on the blue sky of the poster says “CHEMINS DE FER PARIS-LYON - MEDITERRANÉE.” Underneath that, it says “SIMPLION -ORIENT-EXPRESS.” The orange color dominates the overall tone of the poster, which makes it appear as if there is sunset. At the bottom of the poster one can see the the routes of the Orient Express. There is one route from London and another from Paris. They meet or connect at Milan. From here they continue in one line to Belgrade and divide to three different routes: Bucharest, Athens, and Constantinople (Istanbul), which is the final destination. There are two figures on the route map. The man on the left is in his official red British guard uniform, and a black furry hat. His left index finger points at London, the start of the route. The man on the right is in his all casual Ottoman garments: white long sleeved shirt, a black sleeveless vest, and another yellow orange shirt under his white shirt; he has a red wide belt on his belly, with a red fez on his head. He points at the route with his right hand, palm outwards, appears as a welcome gesture. I took the tour of the Villa. The garden was phenominal. The Villa was also amazing. I must say the view of Rome at sunset was incredible.

I discovered Villa Medici in Rome, Italy, and it's a historical haven that left me enchanted. Nestled atop the Pincian Hill, this villa radiates timeless elegance and cultural significance. The staff's warm welcome made me feel like a cherished guest in a Renaissance masterpiece. The meticulously landscaped gardens offer a serene retreat, while the panoramic views of Rome are breathtaking. Steeped in history, this villa was once the residence of the illustrious Medici family. The rooms seamlessly blend classic charm with modern comfort. My stay at Villa Medici was a journey through time, revealing the allure of art, culture, and a rich historical legacy. An unforgettable experience!

(Translated by Google) Villa Medici - Pincio - Rome - is located above the Spanish Steps - Piazza Spagna; Today it is also the French Academy in Rome, which is why it has the status of extraterritoriality. Villa Medici was born in the place where in the Romanian era were Horti Luculialliani, the area always desired by the elite of society for view and position. In 1576 Cardinal Ferdinando Medici purchased the land to build a residence in Rome. The architectural project was made by great artists of that time: Nanni di Baccio Bigio, Annibale Lipit and Bartolomeo Ammannati. Today, the French Academy in Rome has an extensive scholarship program in various creative fields accessed by artists from around the world every year. The visit to Villa Medici is provided by the internal staff, here you can admire the garden with two statues of Dacians, ancient and rare plants. (Translated by Google) The Italian guide is very good but the low rating depends on the scarcity of contents: inside you can visit only three bedrooms of modest interest while most of the visit takes place outdoors, in a garden that has nothing particular. The exhibition only sets up plaster casts of copies reproduced by the students of the academy.
