Bring your sunglasses. Afro Veg Flavour is bright and vibrant. On my walk up Howard Street to Hockley Social Club I did a double take. What is this? A cafe, a restaurant? What are the origins of the colourful symbols painted on either side of the entrance? I took a look at the doorway, noticing a characteristic large gap between the bottom of the door and the street. As I walked inside I was greeted by a chatty, smily member of staff. She offered more details about the restaurant. Itโ€™s only 1 month old, offering traditional Ethiopian dishes, but only with Vegan ingredients. She even offered a sample of a traditional dish, which I kindly accepted. What a beautiful food. What a lovely experience. I would like to say a humble โ€œThank you for your kindness.โ€

A comfortable, intimate little place. The small menu suggests fresh, good quality food and that's exactly what you get. Excellent prices too! The warm welcome from the owner/staff on arrival and throughout did not disappoint. Eat here, kick back and chill for a couple of hours. If you are unfamiliar with the traditions and foods of Ethiopia, this place is a fabulous introduction - atmospheric and well worth a visit - don't hesitate to step inside. Thank you to the staff and owner at afro veg. We had a great afternoon x

A lovely restaurant serving great food with a smile. We shared a large varied platter with a tasty beef stew and plenty of extra pancake along with some tasty honey wine and followed with amazing coffee.

A real hidden gem very close to hockley social club. 100% recommend if youโ€™re in the JQ! Great for veggie vegan dishes. Great portion sizes with excellent flavours and diversity of dishes. My friends and I shared a 3 person platter and were absolutely stuffed. Really enjoyed being a able to try a bit if everything, and the home made wine was exceptional. The staff were super friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was great. Make sure you check this place out !

A bit out of the way, but excellent food and lovely staff. I had Ethiopian fermented bread with a variety of side dishes-very tasty and wholesome.

Came for lunch and we had a delicious platter freshly made for us. All veggie and lots of different parts to try. Big on flavours and good portion! The woman who runs this place was so friendly. Would recommend the tea - clove, cinnamon and cardamom. Will be coming again! Wish I could eat here every day

My first time visiting and I will be back again! It's a cosy place, hidden off the main streets. The owner and her "right-hand woman" (that's what she referred to her as ๐Ÿ˜Š) were brilliant. So friendly and patiently explained what all the sides were. She kept supplying us with more Injera bread without us asking or any additional charge. I would recommend everyone to get over there and visit.

My first time of trying Ethiopian food, overall fine. I was shocked to know that there was no menu provided in this restaurant! There were only 2 main dishes, Beef Enjera and Veggie Enjera. I ordered the beef one, the flatbread tasted weird at first but gradually I was getting used to it. The Honey Wine had a good taste, but strong enough to make me a little bit drunk.

Stunning food- I was genuinely upset that I was too full to finish it! The restaurant has a great community feel to it, I'm certain that it's a popular spot to sit and absorb the atmosphere. There was one option for food (vegan and ยฃ10) and the portions were great. Coming from outside of Birmingham, I feel lucky to have found this gem.

Really good food, made right in front of us. Great service too! Caters really well to vegans and is really reasonably priced. This was our second time going, and we'll definitely keep coming back

Ate here for lunch and loved it! ยฃ15 for very delicious and filling food for two people. The woman who owns it is very sweet and talented. Super clean and comfortable restaurant. And the food is healthy and not all oily. Highly recommend this place.

This place is a real find, itโ€™s quickly become my favourite spot in the city (even more so now Savannah seems to have closed down..?). The owner is so nice and really clearly cares about your experience there, the atmosphere is super laid back and casual, and the food is extremely wholesome and delicious (as well as being really affordable!). Real cultural gem for Birmingham.

Wow, is the most appropriate expression to describe this delightful venue. This is my first time trying Ethiopian food and I can only say that the explosion of flavours I felt trying the lamb with a selection of vegetable was unprecedented. I would definitely recommend the experience to everyone, I know Iโ€™ll definitely be back!

Amazing resteraunt. Staying round the corner for work and so glad I walked past. The owner was really friendly and described what vegetarian options there were. I got a mix of everything to takeaway. Never tried Ethiopian food before and this was possibly some of the tastiest food I have ever had. The sour bread was not something I have had before either, and was really good. I was also given free coffee while I waited, which was made with in house roasted beans. Will definitely be back again, great atmosphere and value for money. Thanks!

Arrived just as they were closing but stayed open a bit longer for us. Lovely vegan food. Friendly staff and great atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Delicious, vegan-friendly traditional Ethiopian food in a nice setting, and at a reasonable price- my feast of various veg dishes on an injera was splendid; Iโ€™ll be back soon!

Absolute brilliant food, in a brilliant restaurant, prepared by two lovely ladies. Iโ€˜ll definitely come again and the place is really worth visiting. The food is prepared in front of you, itโ€˜s fresh and delicious, the decor is nice and the hospitality is outstanding, I had a lovely conversation with both of them. I got a tea on the house while waiting for my food, plus the dishes are really reasonable priced. Weโ€˜ll definitely come again!
