It
had
been
a
long
time
since
I
visited
an
actual
physical
bricks
and
mortar
book
shop,
but
with
specific
books
in
mind
for
Christmas
gifts,
i
made
the
short
train
journey
to
Waterstones
in
Wolverhampton.
I
am
so
glad
I
made
the
effort.
The
shop
is
huge,
with
two
floors
stacked
with
books,
from
floor
to
ceiling.
Once
through
the
doors,
the
traditional
shop
gave
me
a
warm
welcoming
feeling,
with
soft
carpet
underfoot,
and
the
smell
of
traditional
wood
stained
bookcases,
a
bit
like
putting
on
some
comfortable
old
slippers.
I
couldn't
actually
find
the
book
I
was
after,
so
had
to
ask
the
staff.
They
were
polite,
informative
helpful,
and
took
me
upstairs
to
the
appropriate
section,
where
the
book
I
wanted
was
situated.
The
book
was
for
my
Wife,
but
then
I
saw
a
book
that
I
was
interested
in,
so
bought
that
as
well.
The
range
of
books
on
offer
is
astonishing,
fact,
fiction,
travel,
puzzles,
you
name
it,
Waterstones
have
got
it.
An
added
bonus
was
the
fact
that
on
the
way
out,
I
came
across
a
wall
full
of
jigsaw
puzzles,
which
instantly
gave
me
an
idea
for
another
gift.
As
I
slipped
through
the
door,
leaving
the
warm
comfort
of
the
shop,
and
stepping
into
the
cold
light
of
day,
I
felt
satisfied
and
pleased
that
I
had
made
the
effort,
I
ended
up
with
3
Christmas
gifts
to
give.
Buying
books
online
is
convenient,
but
it
can
never
replace
the
evocative
emotions
of
a
traditional
book
shop.
