Gerard and his team at Barefoot Birmingham provide a top quality service to their clients. I have witnessed in clinic how warm and welcoming the physiotherapists are. All members of the team are incredibly knowledgeable, experts in their field. I would certainly recommend my friends & family to Gerard and his team.

Lovely, welcoming environment at Barefoot Studio. Always welcomed and seen almost immediately. I have suffered with re-occurring back pain over many years due to an injury. Gerard manipulates my back to loosed stiffened muscles and gives advice on treatment, stretches and offers great encouragement. I have resumed swimming and stationary cycling due to the improvement in my back and once more enjoy physical activity - before I was in too much pain and too stiffened too enjoy! Gerard is polite, professional but adds his own touch of personality to the visits, he's very approachable and always very supportive!

I had been experiencing terrible discomfort around the pelvic and lower back area for around 3 years and had been to numerous specialists in all kinds of fields. I was so relieved when I had my first session with Gerard at the Harborne clinic. Very understanding and started me on my road to recovery last April. He had me doing breathing techniques, some meditation and using some more specific things to get me back to wellness again. When he told me that simple things like this would have such a positive impact I was a little sceptical, but I had become quite desperate and went ahead with it. Nearly a year on I have just been discharged by the clinic and, while the symptoms can reappear if I miss some exercises occasionally, I feel a lot better. I have done what Gerard told me and feel so much better for doing so. To say he knows his stuff is an understatement. Lovely atmosphere in both clinics too, very casual and full of nice people.

I went to the Harborne Barefoot Studio to be seen by Gerard and couldn't recommend him enough. The most knowledgeable physio I met, very experienced, very clear and explaining things with detail, very delicate testing my injured knee, and respectful of pain. The clinic has a welcoming and warming environment and everyone was very friendly. Thank you, Gerard!

Thank you so much for all your help. I have been having regular physiotherapy with Gerard and Alina at the Harborne barefoot physio, they are both very helpful and experienced specialist physiotherapists and have helped me a lot. I have been having ongoing thorough assessments and regular clear exercise plan with details that are easy to follow. I already feel a lot better, my pain is getting less and I can sleep more comfortably. I am very impressed. Couldn’t recommend them enough. I wish I came here earlier during my pregnancy and earlier postpartum.

Gerard and his team are absolutely superb. They treats all sorts of pelvic pain and pelvic floor dysfunctions. Gerard is particularly helpful at treating men with pelvic pain dysfunction as well as pelvic floor dysfunction such as erectile dysfunction, urinary frequency testicular or penis pain. If you or anyone you know has these problems give these Physio’s as soon as possible

Many many thanks to Gerard for sorting out my running leg(s)! I had a post-tib injury on and off for the best part of three years and he completely sorted me out. Gerard is very personable and really listened to my injury woes - when I first visited I was feeling very low about my situation, but Gerard very quickly allowed me to see the injury as manageable. He gave me, for example, a few exercises to work on each week and this made it straightforward and achievable to work on at home and within a fortnight I was seeing progress. Gerard was also great at giving advice as to how to get slowly back into running, as too many times I had tried too much, too soon. Also had some fantastic sports massages which helped my recovery along. Can't recommend the practice enough.

I just want to say a massive thank you to the guys at the Harborne Clinic for helping me with my recurring injury. I love playing netball and have been to various other clinic's for help and support but unfortunately it didn't work for me. You guys have helped me continue playing, thank you so much!

Twice the team have put me back together and given me hope, when I thought there was none. Thank you, just doesn't cover what you've done for me. Forever grateful.

I've been surprised (and hugely delighted) to discover how much my body has recovered since doing post-partum physio with Gerard! I had diastasis recti (separation of the stomach muscles) and an aching back and hips since having my twins. I came for an evaluation and hoped that we could lessen my aches. I didn't expect the DR to go but it has and my stomach is beginning to tone up, the aches are all but gone and I feel great. Gerard is very attentive, down-to-earth and knowledgeable. I highly recommend his services!

Fiona was recommended to me from a family class I was attending at the time, due to the fact I was experiencing back pain during and post pregnancy, and also thought I had diastastis recti. What I visioned and what I actually got were two entirely different things. I expected some exercises and some manipulation to ease my back. Yet, I received holistic support way beyond expectation. Fiona looked at my diet and lifestyle, where I carry tension, (which also encouraged me to look at WHY I carry so much tension). I had no idea that my diet was contributing so much to my lack of repair. I thought I was eating relatively well, but actually what I was lacking was way more important. Fiona addressed my hydration, my connective tissue repair, my overall diet, my back in a physical sense and also managed to address my anxiety and the effect this had on my body head on all within an hour. She recommended a mindfulness class nearby to where I live, in order to release tension mentally, and therefore benefit physically. Before seeing Fiona, I didn't think very highly of myself at all. In fact, I disliked so much of how I looked and how I felt. I was governed by my back pain and riddled with tension and anxiety. Now, I have made many permanent changes, thanks to Fiona's support. I am kinder to my body and have a more relaxed mind, which in turn has given me more self worth. I very rarely go at break-neck speed which was a normal pace for me before, due to Fiona's encouragement to stop, breathe, and let go of tension through my core. I have now learnt how to 'let go' and, this combined with the massage, manipulation, stretching, pelvic floor assessment and supplements has actually helped me more than I could have imagined. I feel I've been pulled out of a literal hole. Thankyou Fiona, for not only being a fantastic physiotherapist, but also for being an amazing holistic one.

I am a physio colleague from Turkey and l had a chance to do a clinical placement in Harborne Physiotherapy& Acupuncture clinic. I am very thankful for this opportunity because they are experts in female and male pelvic health, pre and post natal physiotherapy in addition to musculoskeletal and sport medicine. Gerard is one of the most clinically astute and caring clinicians l have come across. His ability to diagnose and treat Mens’ health conditions is one the highest order. Also l had attended his manual therapy course which was very informative and extremely useful. I am looking forward to attending the next one! Moreover, l have had the pleasure of meeting his amazing team! A big thanks to Gemma, Fiona, Lisa and Sundeep! Their approach is pragmatic and clear, and they are very professional from making the initial appointment to providing various treatments and advice on further care required. It is absolute pleasure and honour to recommend his clinic and team. Msc. Physio Nehir Akmil.

From the first session Miriam instantly made me feel at ease. She is extremely thorough, not just diagnosing my initial concerns but also checking for any other birth related injuries. She took the time to explain the body mechanics and my injury so I could understand how to care for myself during the rehabilitation process. Miriam was fantastic at explaining the prescribed exercises, keeping them realistic to do with a newborn and always writing it down, which is essential when you’re sleep deprived! During the sessions she also covered all aspects of my lifestyle, from diet, breathing correctly to practical advice on how to lift my baby safely. Over the weeks my symptoms continued to improve and even though I’m still on that journey now, I’m confident that I will be able to safely return to high impact exercise. Miriam clearly has a passion for women’s health, always keeping up to date with recent research ensuring her knowledge is at the forefront in this area. Even if you don’t have any concerns, I think it is well worth investing in a mummy MOT with Miriam after having a baby!

Charlotte has been seeing Fiona for about 9 months now and thoroughly enjoys her sessions. Fiona gets her working hard while Charlotte thinks she is playing and adapts the session depending on how Charlotte is feeling. We look forward to our monthly session and can see a massive improvement in Charlottes physical abilities.

Ladies – if you’re struggling with all things pelvic floor related/ menopausal misery and generally feeling lousy about your ‘under carriage’ do go and see Lisa! She was recommended by a friend and I’m so glad I plucked up courage to make that initial appointment as it’s made such a difference to me. It felt like a weight off my shoulders just to talk through everything that’s been going on (and realise that lots of women feel like this too) and get somebody who really knows what they’re looking for to give you the ‘once over’ and explain why your body is having a hard time of it. As well as practical physical exercises (Good to know how to actually do your pelvic floor exercise properly !) I’ve been supported in making some changes with my exercise regime and general lifestyle over the last few months. Am feeling so much better physically and mentally. This is a very safe space – from the moment you walk in (with the lovely Hannah at the desk.) You will find Lisa understanding, knowledgeable and so supportive.

I have had several appointments at Harborne Physiotherapy due to having sciatica and related problems. I have found the physiotherapists to be very professional and effective in listening to me, discussing and treating my physical condition. All the staff I have encountered are friendly and welcoming. I’m so glad that this facility is available for me.

I have been treated for 6 months at this Physiotherapy by Shannel, she is very good at her job. Careful for the patient and clearly knows what she is doing. I would recommend anyone to visit this centre if in need.

I have had very slight stress incontinence for several years and just accepted it was part of getting older. However last Autumn I had a really severe chest infection and the incontinence became a real problem every time I coughed- I could not continue as I was. At the time my husband was seeing Gerard and he suggested that I come into the clinic to have a chat with Lisa and thank goodness I did!! From the outset Lisa was so supportive, caring and professional. At each stage she has explained what she is going to do and why - so very important when discussing this 'at times' embarrassing subject. After every treatment I have been given some exercises which have improved the muscle tone and function significantly. As Lisa always says- no quick fix- but the great news that It is working and I can see the improvement in muscle function on the screen. So- Ladies if you are suffering like I was- ditch the embarrassment and book an appointment.

Shannel H service has been brill! We have been working on my muscular pain for the last 2 months and already see results. Shannels sets real life goals that can be met. She is the only therapist I go to with confidence because I know I will walk out of that session with improvements

I was referred here to see Gemma Tomkinson after a RTC on my motorcycle resulting in back and shoulder injuries. Having previously seen other physios Gemma was exceptional and identified the exact cause of my pain, undertook a combination of manual therapy and prescribed exercises. My progress was rapid and resulted in painless full range of motion on the second visit (this had never happened before). I’m very great full to Gemma and cannot recommend her professionalism enough.

Had a brilliant 2 day course with Gerard for pregnancy and post natal mums. I learnt loads and although it was a virtual course due to the pandemic it was still loads of fun and informative. I would highly recommend.

I probably waited a little too long to organise my post natal physiotherapy appointment with Gerard but there always seemed to be something that got in the way of it. I then panicked when I found out his clinic was closed because of the lockdown. Thankfully I spotted on Instagram that Gerard was doing online appointments and got in touch. Several of my friends around Moseley & Harborne had previously seen him or some of his team so I was confident he would do his best to help me. I was impressed as an online " Zoom" appointment was arranged within days. I really liked it as we talked about my mai problems 😯 which were 1. My tummy gap of approx 3 fingers 2. My weak pelvic floor and 3. My back and hip pain on exercise . What did I get from the appointment , a very good understanding of what was going on with my body as a new mum of a 6 month old , what I needed to start doing , what I had to change or alter and a plan of how to get sorted. I am excited to finally focus on me and look forward to the 2nd " zoom " appointment in about 2 weeks where he will progress me on. It also settled my mind as I was quite anxious about not being able to see someone for months. Gerard was fab and seemed quite at ease about doing appointments like this. Thank you so much

I spoke with Gerard at Barefoot Physio in Harborne for a pregnancy physio session after suffering severe back pain. He offered me a cancellation appointment the next day with Kat, and on a Saturday! Kat was fab and gave me plenty of advice and exercises to do as well as a massage. Within a week my back pain has disappeared! And being a Barefoot yoga class member I even got a discounted rate. Fantastic service. Would highly recommend.

We saw Fiona Miles for the treatment of our daughter's positional talipes, which was quite pronounced on both feet at birth. We only needed three appointments, between 8 and 20 weeks. Fiona was lovely, and so good with our daughter, who was a very grumpy, refluxy baby at the time! Can't thank her enough for her time and advice.

I took my quite nervous mother to this clinic for her first physio treatment ever. Her therapist Lisa Hastie has been wonderful in everyway. Warm, patient, professional and always ready to work with the client rather than just 'tell' them. It's been a couple sessions now and my mother is feeling incredibly optimistic about the treatment. If you're nervous or not sure physio is for you, I recommend you come check out the services offered at Harbone Clinic. The staff are incredibly helpful and informative. You won't feel overwhelmed at all! Couldn't have asked for a better service. Thank you!

I would urge any man who has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and has elected to have a prostatectomy, to have a consultation with Gerard at the earliest opportunity. He will candidly, but sympathetically talk you through all the implications of the surgery and the subsequent recovery. Most importantly, he can non-invasively, with the use of ultrasound, establish that you are able to 'fire' the pelvic floor muscles for maximum effect. This is essential in the fight to overcome incontinence, and should be started before the prostatectomy. I thoroughly recommend this consultation with Gerard, as his advice and expertise has signifcantly helped me tackle Post Prostatectomy Incontinence. Stuart Murray

Am on the way to a pain-free neck and shoulder after a whip-lash accident more than a year ago thanks to Lee. Came in with chronic stiffness due to a delay in getting treatment and finally starting to have hope of feeling better long-term. Gives you exercises to do at home which is crucial to recovery and switches them if they're not doing the job.
