Thee most OVERPRICED record store I’ve been in. The store was fairly empty when I walked in, the employees all looked up and then back down and couldn’t be bothered to even say hello. There was two new items priced at 29.99 & 30.99 same albums, went to the used section and the same exact album there was $34.99. How does that even make sense. Nothing was under $20. I walked right out and went down a block and a half to Reckless Records, much better experience and MUCH BETTER prices. Don’t waste your time or dollars here! There’s a better Gem right down the way! (Update): Looks like the owner replied in a condescending response of “shock” that not many patrons were in the store. Wish I’d taken a photo since that’s so unbelievable for them, however no accountability for the uninviting employees nor anything else mentioned. Goes to say that it furthermore says why I won’t be back with so many BETTER options and gems to shop at!

I’d love to give Shuga Records 5 stars, I actually really want to. They have some of the best variety of vinyl in the entire city of Chicago and they also have a very helpful and friendly staff. I really enjoy shopping through their collection…until I look at some of their prices. I completely understand supporting a local business over big box retailers…I prefer to do this but when the same record is sometimes 2x to 3x higher than on other online retailers or other record stores have them listed at, it’s a turn off. I often purchase unofficial (imports) online from the Rock Shop outside of Philadelphia, PA or The Vinyl Underground out of Kansas City because all of them are $45 to $55 max. I bought an AFI album for $200 from Shuga only to see the same record on another local website 3 weeks later for $50. I bought a Clario album for $70 only to see it at Target a month later for $27.99. After awhile, all of that adds up and I feel that if other places are selling these same records at a lower price, why can’t Shuga? I feel like they take the highest listed price on Discogs and just match that. I could list my house for $1.2 million dollars but it doesn’t mean it’s worth that. Again, love the staff and selections…I just feel I’ve been burned so many times by buying what I thought to be very rare finds, only to see them pop up elsewhere for a fraction of the price.

I have to echo others; shuga has unbelievable variety of genres! They have an awesome vibe at their two shops. But it is incredibly pretentious and disingenuous to consumers to charge 2-3x retail for releases that are literally still available from the record label for retail. . . It's also a bummer because other local shops have the same stock for reasonable prices. I wish they would be more fair in their prices because they are losing my business for that reason only! For a first time buyer it's a great experience. But as a discerning collector, I won't give them my money.

TONS of vinyl here to choose from! New, old, used, everything. Very organized and clean, easy to dig around through and good quality throughout. If records are your thing you can easily spend a decent chunk of time digging around here.

Buy at your own risk or get burnt like me, full price for a beat up used , scratched up, torn and damaged cover. But priced like new re release. Although I didn’t know what VG meant at the time As they listed it now I understand the rating system , I took the record to another record store and they said it should have been listed as fair to poor status no way VG.. Then while trying to return it I had to pay full return shipping on my dime while waiting for a refund. Lesson learned… I threw it out instead of damaging my stylist and wasting more money on return shipping.

Incredibly large selection of records with the ability to listen to the records of choice up front. Friendly staff and a very clean store. They have everything from the new classics to old school records and international tunes. Record prices range from $20 to $40 to $60 all the way up to $200 for certain records. They do have some used records in the back where you can find some older records for $5 or $10. 4 stars because I do think they’re a little over priced but still a very nice record store.

Take your used records HERE and ONLY here! This is hands down the best record store in the city. Top dollar prices paid on trade-ins and a kickass staff. True record store vibes. This is now the only place I take my old tunes. Here, I know I'll get a good price and I know they're going to a good home. Peace and Love KEEP ROCKIN'

I've now ordered 2 records from here. They've both arrived in great packaging and pristine condition. I highly recommend doing your business here!

Ordering from Shuga Records was an amazing experience. My package came fast and was packaged very nicely. In terms of ordering online, Shuga Records is one of my top three options.

The worst record store of all time - everything, from bootlegs (not disclosed as such!) to easy to find represses is at least 1.5x the price you’d find it for at a better shop. Signal records has the same copy of Yeezus Shuga has for $75… at Shuga? It’s $800. Less a record store than a great con. Should be closed down yesterday.

😠 They have somebody rescan my items that are already scanned at the register going through my groceries that I already paid for. It’s kind of invasive. 👍👍 Took a weekend trip to Chicago with my son and we did some shopping at Nordstrom. My son was able to find something in the men's department and I was able to have a cocktail at the conveniently located Cocktail bar in the department store where I enjoyed a reasonably priced Old Fashioned. We even re...
