An
incredible
piece
of
medieval
Byzantine
architecture,
situated
in
the
woods
of
mount
Ymittos.
Very
easily
reachable
by
car
and
you
can
also
include
it
in
your
hiking
schedule
when
starting
from
Kaisariani
side
of
Ymittos.
The
monastery
itself
is
in
great
condition,
founded
in
the
11th
century
and
bringing
some
fantastic
medieval
buildings:
the
cathedral
and
a
chapel,
the
monks’
rooms,
the
tower
of
a
noble
family,
the
olive
mills
/
baths,
as
well
as
the
beautuful
dining
room
and
kitchen,
all
surrounded
by
the
monastery
walls.
Admission
is
free
on
Sundays!
Make
sure
to
come
early,
as
the
monastery
closes
after
16:00
EET.
Highly
recommended
for
a
hike
in
beautiful
nature,
just
a
few
minutes
from
the
heart
of
Athens.
An
alternative
attraction
for
when
in
Athens,
especially
if
you
‘re
a
nature
and
history
enthusiast!
