Dandi
bridge,
where
the
historic
salt
march
began,
has
been
a
crumbling
edifice
ever
since
our
freedom.
Today,
after
almost
eight
decades
of
the
Mahatma
having
left
the
Ashram,
there
is
a
renewed
effort
to
revive
the
bridge.
The
bridge
will
now
be
an
access
to
the
river
front.
The
silent-zone
project
at
the
Ashram
has
mostly
relied
on
creating
public
spaces
that
are
quiet,
peaceful
and
are
accessible
by
all.
Creation
of
an
Ashram
plaza
with
dense
trees
and
cobbled
paths,
canopies
with
seating
arrangements
and
a
possible
cafeteria
is
also
being
incorporated
in
the
plans.
"A
special
promenade
will
link
Dandi
bridge
to
the
river
front.
Keeping
in
mind
the
aim
of
the
Ashram,
every
piece
of
architecture
will
symbolise
peace,
tranquillity
and
encourage
introspection,"
CEPT
university
professor
Utpal
Sharma.
In
a
recent
survey,
authorities
found
that
visitors
had
been
complaining
that
the
Ashram
doesnot
display
adequate
information
about
the
Mahatma.
Lack
of
infrastructure
to
cater
to
specific
needs
of
visitors
and
tourists
was
another
common
complain.
