There are two exhibitions here. One is Indigo museum which exhibhits modern abstract "art". It is free to explore without any registration. The other one in the bungalow is main museum. It can only be visited through prior registration. You can see some miniature paintings of Maratha-Mughal period/Kangra paintings as well as various rooms of beautiful mansion. Collection is not rich but it's tremendously well kept. Everything is systematic and clean. The mansion is toured only with company of a guide who explains in English. The guide possesses extraordinary knowledge about things kept here. No entry fee is levied on any exhibition. There's locker for your belongings the key of which is given to you. Extremely impressive management.

Kasturbhai Lalbhai Museum is basically am indigo museum. So far google doesn't provide proper information so we basically landed up here around 11am and were informed that the museum can only be viewed with prior tour bookings. But we saw some pieces around the place and in another building. Our guides for the day were some students who were great, they were trying so hard and it was commendable. The property is great. Some of artwork is wonderful as well.

A lovely private museum housed in a beautiful colonial style bungalow. Some beautiful paintings and furniture on display. The Gaganendranath Tagore collection is particularly lovely. Only drawback is that there is no car parking available. But not that difficult to find parking on the streets in the morning. Photography not allowed inside :) Would recommend that you also visit the LD Museum of Indology. Many exquisite artefacts & paintings from the collection of the Lalbhai family.

The museum is in the heart of the city Ahmedabad. The place is well maintained and have a sprawling garden. The white building against the green looks refreshing. The place holds many showcases of rare experience of events. The exhibitions are generally well curated and is open to only niche customers. But would look forward for more interactive people in the museum when the exhibitions goes on.

You just need an hour for the Indigo Alchemy Museum and it'll be worth your hour indeed, if you're even an amateur lover of art. It's easy to appreciate the effort behind putting it together at such a serene pretty place in such a wonderful tasteful manner. Some of the art pieces have such deep meaning and thought behind them, that you could spend quite some time appreciating them. Loved the dyed paper art in particular and the sea-level change string dye art.

A must-visit for art lovers, with a vast collection of Indian art. For kasturba museum you need to book your slot before 2 days. But for indigo museum you can visit anytime.

    1. Entry is free...for museum you have to book the appointment on call for any of the 4 slots (10, 12, 2 & 4). Indigo art gallery can be visited any time in a day. 2. The museum has a collection of paintings from different art practises (photography prohibited) and Indigo art gallery has collection of morden indigo art (photography allowed). 3. Place itself is just serene and very well maintained. Drinking Water & washroom facility available. 4. The staff is very polite and well behaved.

Just beside the Calico Museum, this museum is located in the Shahibaug, Ahmedabad. The museum, which is segregated into 2 portions. One is a beautiful bungalow considered as heritage house of Shri Kasturbhai Lalbhai restored and turned into a museum which consists of family's collections of antiques. The antiques integrated into the everyday decor. The museum also consists of Indian sculptures, bronzes, manuscripts, paintings, drawings, miniature paintings, woodwork, bead work, and ancient and contemporary coins, which have used in ahmedabad. The main building, a colonial house built in 1905, showcases over a thousand years of Indian art. The selection on display reflects the eclectic nature of the collection. It seeks to balance art historical merit with personal favourites while retaining the essence of the family home. The paintings on view are from a range of traditions and styles, with paintings from the Persian, Mughal, Deccan, Pahari and Rajasthani schools, Tibetan Thangkas, Company School portraits, modernist paintings from the Bengal School, and painted postcards from pre-independent India. Art in stone, metal, wood, and Bidri covers a span of more than a thousand years. In the adjacent building, the Claude Batley house, built in the 1930s, space has been created to house temporary exhibitions, retrospectives of artists, and display of works by young artists. Leaving the beauty of the older building untouched and unmarred, a glass gallery, unique and distinctive, has been added to create extra display space. The complex also has a small amphitheatre with a seating capacity of 250 that can host small performances, musical soirees, talks, and discourses. Thus, with different and changing events being planned throughout the year, we hope to create a dynamic and vibrant atmosphere to draw people for a cultural treat. The white building against the green looks refreshing. The other one is the Arvind Indigo Museum. The museum will serve as both a repository of indigo dye-based objects and a space for artists and makers to explore the applications and uses of indigo across various mediums. Its ultimate aim is to make indigo relevant to contemporary art and craft practices and to thereby revitalise indigo cultivation practices. Overall, the visit to this museum was very much knowledgeable indeed to get a better view of artistically contrasting exploration. For this showcasing this beauty, you will get a proper guide with vast knowledge of the building museum. It is better to book via mail or telephone prior to visiting this place, which doesn't levy any costs for a visit.

An exhibition space generously provided by the Lalbhai family. Presently is housing a Indigo exhibition since 2019 and a separate gallery at the far.end of the estate that has other exhibitions. Most recently it housed the White on White series. There are open spaces in front, to the side and at the back where one may hold a performance or other activities. A lovely exhibition space.

This is a beautiful home converted into a museum. The works presented here are incredible. The indigo collection has works of both Indian and international artists like Tanya Goel, Manisha Parekh, Alwar Balasubramaniam and Idris Khan, Annie Morris, etc. I highly recommend you to go here. Do see the indigo exhibition but please book a slot to see the house tour. It’s just 30 mins. I only wished that the tour operator/guide was more knowledgeable about the artefacts and the family itself. She lacked some knowledge!

Set amongst tall trees and lush gardens, the Kasturbhai Lalbhai Museum complex consists of two buildings that have been painstakingly restored by renowned architect Rahul Mehrotra. The main building, a colonial house built in 1905, showcases over a thousand years of Indian art. The selection on display reflects the eclectic nature of the collection. It seeks to balance art historical merit with personal favorites, while retaining the essence of the family home. The paintings on view are from a range of traditions and styles, with paintings from the Persian, Mughal, Deccan, Pahari and Rajasthani schools, Tibetan Thangkas, Company School portraits, modernist paintings from the Bengal School, and painted postcards from pre-independent India. Beautifully breathtaking museum based out of Shahibaug Road Ahmedabad. This is one of the most well maintained property. Situated amongst lush green environment is this beautiful bunglow like museum which is segregated into 2 portions. First one is the vintage stuff and paintings of Kasturbhai and Nheru times along with some beautiful ancient and antique artifacts and paintings. Photography ain't allowed here owing to the idea of keeping these artifacts and treasures preserved. The second portion is of Alchemy a textile exhibition. It explains everything about indigo color from how it came to India, to Indigo tree to thread to how it is used to make a cloth. There are also some superb indigo works here open for display and guess what, photography ain't prohibited in this zone. Everything here is breathtakingly blue and beautiful to the extent that you fall in love with indigo color. The staff is very polite and courteous here. However pre telephone booking is mandatory before visiting this place. P.S This place is so calm composed and close to nature that you will find peacocks roaming around in the gardens of this property All and all a must visit place which will proove why Ahmedabad truly deserves the title of Heritage City.

Tastefully curated art collection ranging from ancient sculptures in copper and bronze, to Persian carpets; and art works from the Mughal, Deccan, Bengal, and Rajputana schools. Another, later building connected to the main house displays all modern masters - Raza, Sher-Gil, Anjolie Ela Menon etc. The complex houses two beautifully restored buildings and enough trees to make the visitor wonder if they are still in Ahmedabad.

Reminded me of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum of Boston. It's a tastefully decorated home converted into museum. Tour started right on time and was excellently guided. If possible arrive 20 min early, and visit the indigo art gallery in same compound. It has beautiful abstract artforms along with Arvind Mills Denim collection as backdrop... No photography allowed in main museum, all photos shared are from the indigo collection.

A blend of art, history & nature in the midst of a hustling city. There are two sections 1. Indigo- Which is open from 10 to 5 and doesn't require any prior booking. Open to all. And free of cost 2. Kasturbhai Lalbhai Museum- Prior booking is a must. And you will be provided time to visit. It will be a guided tour and no charge for the same. Both are must visit if you are an art enthusiast.

A truly immersive experience was the guided tour of the Kasturbhai Lalbhai Museum today. felt like I was taken back to the era when the Lalbhai family led a fulfilling life thanks to the creative expression of various works of ancient art. The history and the artworks helped me realise that art goes beyond what an artist might initially think it to be. Probably a realm of unfathomable proportions.

Indigo Museum is housed in the same complex but in a small area next to the main house. Indigo museum is open all through the day.

It was not a very pleasant feeling when you are told on reaching the place that we can see the Indigo exhibition only... We were denied permission to visit the museum since we did not have prior booking... What does that even mean... Ridiculous since we are visiting Ahmedabad for two days .. Also the details showed in Google did not indicate such a requirement ... It needs to be rectified so that visitors are not misinformed...This is quite in contrast with the Calico museum where this information is displayed so clearly... Surely a let down... Avoidable ...

As per history of this museum, this place was visited by Indira Gandhi, Vallabh Bhai Patel and other dignitaries at the time of Kasturbhai Lalbhai.. This place is surrounded by greenery.. Recommended place if u have interest in history, paintings and art..
