I am regular customer at this place and i will definitely recommend it to everyone. The reason i’m giving four star and not five is due to introduction of new dish omellete in green house menu after renovation.I personally recommend you to remove it from the menu as this place can stand its own prestige and rich heritage even without such a dish.I know that this place is for authentic gujarati feel so it is better with only vegetarian option.Just because of few foreign visitors i don’t think that you have to change our authenticity. Otherwise the place is really peaceful and the dishes were perfectly of authentic test.

Got a chance to visit here. a bit expensive but was worthwhile. Centrally located in Ahmedabad, The House of MG is a premier boutique heritage hotel in Ahmedabad, the UNESCO declared World Heritage City. One of the oldest buildings in the city, it wonderfully represents the architectural colonial heritage architecture of the early 20th century. The hotel has 38 beautifully appointed rooms, offering all modern amenities in a grand but homely ambiance. The 20th Century family mansion that offers spacious rooms with free WiFi and a private balcony. There is antique wooden furniture, beautiful tiled flooring, and old photographs (including one of Mahatma Gandhi) on the walls.

I visited this place for dinner and chose "The Green House". The staff were well-mannered and happy to provide suggestions. Since it was a warm evening, we enjoyed the outdoor seating. The place was neat and had a charm to it. We tried the Dabeli, Kesar Lassi and a winter combo. All of them tasted yummy and I would definitely recommend this place for anyone who wants to try Kutch delicacies in a refined environment. Car Parking: Available Restroom Facility: Available

Magnificent place to stay at. Absolutely phenomenal staff - they are so welcoming, kind and attentive. The kitchen staff in particular make you feel so at home and taken care of. They go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable and have your needs met. I came with my family with small kids, and our stay in Ahmedabad was made so comfortable because of the kitchen staff of MG. Food is good too, of course. The experience of having a Gujarati Thali is not to be missed!

What is the point of serving great food when staffs can't be kind enough to serve your guests. My husband went here and appraised me about this place and we revisted together. However the kind of behaviour some staffs have that nobody would ever visit the place again. Thank you for disappointing us to not visit again. Kindly learn some hospitality and manners to deal with your guests.

I would really like to give House of MG a full five stars because it's doing so many things right. It's a destination in itself, gorgeous, relaxing, friendly, overflowing with character. But the Google page it set up and administers doesn't display factual information. It needs to be corrected, leaving me with a sour taste in my mouth. It's probably an oversight, but misinformation can feel dishonest. On the other hand, I loved everything else about the hotel. The front desk was SO helpful and friendly, the food excellent, all the nooks and walkways to discover were a pleasure.

We are visited with families for Morning breakfast. Staff is good but main cook is very arrogant and at all not co operate. Food is average. Total mess on the day when we visited there. Other staff are supported but the cook is at all not supporting. All major bowl are emptied and even reminders, she is at all not bothered about the same. We have complained to Manager but everything is drain as Manager and other senior staff are not responding. They listened everything but even not bothered about customer difficulties. This is absolutely ridiculous hence I suggest avoid such hotel as there are many hotels are much better than this and services are much better than this.

Rooms are spacious , with some acoustic privacy issues as there are curtains and louvers instead of walls on one or two sides . Veg food is good , overall a very good heritage hotel if you have to stay in lal darwaza area . Slightly overpriced considering the location. The jhoolas and all in lobby area and outside every room is a delightful experience.

Wow! Words are less to narrate. I must say that if you have been to Ahmedabad and haven't been to HMG, you have really missed something. Narrates the glorious past. Agashiye is too good.and people around are more than very good. Loved it!

A 5 star experience in a heart of a city ... We grabbed a chance to stay there for a day, otherwise staycation in same city was just not a trend 3 years before COVID. It is indeed a must must must go place actually for whosoever find antique structure soothing. Antique beds, room design, a zula in room, in corridor instead of sofas, there were zula... Manmade little waterfalls... indeed Beautiful!

Visited this place for a family lunch on a Saturday. Classic example of how poor service can overshadow exceptional quality food. Long delays, unprofessional suggestions and novicely unthoughtful service turned down the entire experience. Classy ambience and smiling staff are the plus points.

Grand and luxurious enough. The ambience is unique. The thali though is overpriced. The location is in the heart of the old city hence fraught with parking woes

Visited Agashiye in the House of MG. The entire place is an ancient haveli turned into a hotel with incredible aesthetics. Every part is picture-worthy and the food in Agashiye won't disappoint you. Its a grand dining experience and the best way to enjoy Authentic Gujarati food. It's an unlimited thali with 30 plus delicious items in the thali. The mukhwas platter and unlimited hand churned ice cream are the highlights of this meal. This will cost about ₹2000 with taxes and if you are looking for a special dining experience, then go for it

I really liked how wonderfully they have retained the haveli. The experience was in the details they have incorporated in the entire hotel. Having said that, the service is very average and a little unprofessional. I called in at the reception to ask for the Wifi password and the guy blatantly replied, "Mujhe nahi pata. Call the restaurant." The restaurant asked to call the reception and the wifi didn't connect the entire stay. The staff didn't seem very hospitable and friendly.

I recently dined at The House of MG and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. Despite the charming ambiance and nostalgic vibes of the old city, the food fell short of expectations. We ordered three Gujarati thalis, which ended up costing around 6k Rupees, but the taste did not justify the price. The khichdi, alloo sabji, bhindi, mix sabji , Chana sabji dal, dhokla was poorly prepared, lacking in flavor and texture. Overall, the food was disappointing and lacked the authenticity and quality one would expect. While the aesthetic and ambiance are appealing, the tasteless food left me feeling unsatisfied and unlikely to return.

Went for a family lunch with a friend, amazing place , very well maintained! the lunch was typically a gujrati thali but every item was very exquisite and tasty and freshly made. The portions are unlimited as one can’t keep eating but the taste of the shrikhand and the hand made cream was really great ! The service is excellent but he waiters should also allow some privacy while having food as they keep asking whether you want more helpings! Definitely a place to recommend for a great authentic dinning experience with a touch of history!

I didn't find the worth price for food at " The green house". They charge like five Star hotels as it is a part of 'Haveli' but the taste, looks of dishes were very usual and common. The art gallery items were also at too high prices. I can buy 10 pieces of the same item outside.

5 stars for rooms & food quality, but for the food quantity and service speed is totally exhausting. Too slow!! It's not a value for money experience if you're going for dinner or lunch. You can go to other such places where they give prompt service when they charge heavily.

Good Heritage staying experience . Service not up to the mark. Average . In breakfast they was not able to manage the orders . Took more then 30 mints for simple South Indian order n lastly we cancelled the order after long wait .. Not value for money .

Yesterday i.e on 8th October, 2023 Sunday evening, we seven friends had a dinner at 'Agashiye" Restaurant at House of MG. The dinner was very delicious and all the food menu was very nice. The ambience was very cosy and comfortable. Service right from the reception counter Ms Maria to the dinner staff all were very courteous and polite. This is a must visit restaurant. We are one of the loyal and regular guests at Agashiye. Regards CA Vishal Dave

Great food. Good place. Good service. A very strange thing I noticed. They were asking for 100% advance payment for the thali restaurant. Like really!! Is it a cheap massage parlour or you don’t trust the customers coming in that particular restaurant? I really waited for GM but he never turned up. May be he had no answer or that’s the level of customer service the property has.

Well came back to India after 7 years choose Agashiye to celebrate my birthday today. Walked in and reception Male and female working were in arguments and didn’t care about anyone around them. Not the House of Mg standards. Very unprofessional and rude, can’t use swear words when customers around. While we were asked to wait the ambience was great but felt rushed to eat while we were served. Live music was great but hope they get better.

The food was pathetic, below par and very spicy. The standards have dropped massively, no wonder they cater to only foreign tourists now. No value for money at all. The service is top notch, but sadly the food doesn't justify the price.

  • 3/5 Maura L. 1 year ago on Google
Whilst the property itself was absolutely breathtaking and the rooms just as charming as the rest of the property, I was disappointed by some of the staff’s attitude towards its guests. I am a foreign tourist and therefore am used to being charged more, but when the hotel offered to call me a cab to the railway station and charged me 1200 rupees for it (I paid 150 rupees from the station to the hotel when I arrived, which I also let reception know), I was rather appalled considering this is a 4 star hotel. Whilst of course this example cannot be applied to the entirety of the staff - some were particularly lovely and helpful - I felt that management needs to tackle the insincerity of its staff.

Perfect heritage stay that gives you a homely feeling. All staff were helpful and polite throughout the stay. Ageshiya the gujrati theme restaurant offers thali so take that challenge if you are really hungry. Green house breakfast buffet was good and had good variety options. Everything was vegetarian so it was perfect for my family stays as well.

Went for dinner. Good service from staff however if you are searching for authentic(Desi) Gujarati food then you should prefer to go. I only refer for non-gujarati audiences as an Gujarati audience you should have eaten some of the items within your daily lunch/dinner with wife's comment "Lo Thunso"

Loved the Ambience, hospitality & the food. If you are a foodie do try out the lunch /dinner thaki. It will be in the range of 1500/2000 +, but the exp is worth a visit. You will taste authentic Gujarati dishes with authentic Gujarati hospitality.

The house of MG is beautifully made heritage hotel with antique objects placed at every nook and corner.. The interiors are made to match the rich gujarati taste. Green house cafe served good food but lacked hospitality during our meal.. Otherwise it's a good place for a quick supper or dinner.

The House of MG room was extremely comfortable, had a lovely jhula in the front area and the room was spacious, plenty of storage space, big bathroom with all conveniences. It was the food which was a big disappointment!! Had read raving reviews about the Green House as well as Agashiye but frankly did not find them deserving. Our room included breakfast ( at The Green House) which was the same on both the mornings we ate. Cut fruits ( were good), idli, dhokla both extremely dry, poha which was just yellow coloured poha with no taste at all, upma, which was a gooey porridge, sauteed veggies ( was decent), puri - chole one day, puri- aloo the other. Then there was dosa ( to order). They could definitely bring about some variety in the food and make it more tasty. The dosa was good, so were the chutneys. As for Agashiye, we had the light thali there. Found the food so spicy, could barely taste anything other than the chilli. One good point was that when we told the person there ( did not catch his name), he immediately arranged for a sweeter version of the undhiyo and another vegetable ( raw banana + karela) which I found extremely tasty!. Also served us a bowl of basundi per person. Nevertheless their rates at both restaurants are quite high as compared to the quantity served. A must mention... On Sunday evening, had a very satisfying dinner of South Gujarat thali , curated by a lovely couple - Vaishali n Rikin Shah. The couple were very friendly, attending to each table and offering suggestions. Loved it. One thali was sufficient for the two of us!

Excellent hotel in the middle of a crazy city. When they say it feels like home they don't lie. It really does. Enjoyed our little stay here. Mr shadab was very helpful and warm. That helped us a lot. Will surely come back here in the future.

Rooms are very neat and clean. It has a great heritage feel. The place has a hundred year old history. This hotel is in the midst of a crowded area. Too noisy, it doesnt have the calm and serenity thats required for a peaceful stay. The breakfast lacks variety.

Nice historical place Less crowded Grate hospitality Both restaurant and cafe at their best Rate was bit higher side and Gujarati people may also found food is same like home. Food authentic Gujarati even not added other falevor or spices like other restaurants does the same.

Visited this place for Lunch at their rooftop restaurant. IT WAS AWESOME 👌🏼👌🏼 The Hotel is / was actually the residence of two brothers who themselves are a Legend. The entire place is adorned with framed photos of them and their families. Very nostalgic. The food is mouth watering, and the service is beyond great.... All in all, a wonderful experience.👍🏼 Would surely revisit, next time in Ahmedabad.

Very interesting hotel in the historic house. Like you are staying in the museum! Nice, but cold pool. Very good spa and massages! Only breakfast is poor - it’s only veg omelettes. But staff is very helpful and polite, I’m very appreciate for their assistance.

The House of MG is simply breathtaking! As a family we stayed here for 15 days and we did not regret choosing this hotel. It’s unique old heritage style architecture on the outside mixed with it vintage india decor on the inside makes it a spectacular place to stay. The ambience transcends you back to what old india was like but at the same time provides you with all the modern amenities you need and more! The location is bang on central which allows you to travel to anywhere in Ahmedabad in no time. The restaurants are mind blowing. The infamous Agashiye rooftop restaurant serves outstanding vegetarian all you can eat Thalis. Don’t miss out! The open air Green House cafe serves you devine breakfast, lunch and dinner with traditional Gujarati and World dishes. The ambience is amazing! The best part of the hotel is its impeccable service ethic. The guest is their number one priority from room service to catering to security to front of house. Whatever you want or need, it’s delivered without fail and with genuine love and care. I can’t end this without some notable staff mentions who went out of their way to treat us like their extended family. Heartfelt thank you to Chirag and Parul from the Green House, Harsh S, Hasmukh and Pawan S from house keeping, Bradal, Prakash and Urvesh from Front of House and the wonderful Bharatbhai from security. The House of MG was truly home away from home and we can’t thank enough everyone who works there for their hospitality and endless care of me and my family.

Very fine boutique hotel. The building is absolutely gorgeous. Very big room with authentic furnitures. Location is close to the Bazar and the old city but the street is noisy so ask fir a back room. Stuff are kind and helpful.

Grand old place with old world charm serves a lavish Gujarati Thali in metal plates. Great place to have dinner in Agashiye restaurant i.e. on the terrace. The have openair as well as AC dining. Well worth it if you are visitor to Amdavad. One can get a bird's eye view of the Sidi Saiyyad Mosque opposite the road. Did not stay in House of MG so cannot rate the rooms but I am sure it will be worth the experience of a Maharaja.

Our second visit. Even better than before. Decor is improved. Lovely hotel, super rooms, the suite is large with a jhoola, large bathroom with a dressing area. Good TV, adequate channels. Liqour license can be arranged. Books are kept in the rooms and lounge. A great place. Two wings MG and CG. A thali restaruant on the roof top - Agashiya.

Pros: large rooms, clean, plenty of towels, lower staff are very sweet and smiley. Good internet, central location, offered walking tours which is really helpful Cons: food is not edible for westerners, some upper position staff are disinterested and gloomy, location is central but very shabby and dirty. Pool is ice cold. More suitable for locals, not for westerners.

What an excellent property. An ancestral property converted into a boutique hotel and a job well done. The decor is outstanding and super inviting. They have a cafe at the GF and a rooftop restaurant, both serving delish food. The rooms are done tastefully keeping in mind minute details. The best part, the rates are affordable and economic considering other hotels of the same stature.
