Here is a museum which is less known. Entry is free. Indias only kite museum is also placed here. Good presentation of various things including textile and artifacts etc. You will need 1 to 2 hours. Piblic utilities are available... One time must visit.

Sanskar Kendra is a museum of art and culture in Ahmedabad. It has a collection of exhibits showcasing the city's lifestyle, history, and architecture. Established in 1956, Sanskar Kendra is a mirror to the rich art and cultural aspects of the city and its glorious past. It captures Ahmedabad's journey in all its different facets, from art and craft to industry and culture and everything else. The photographs show the development of Ahmedabad to what it is today. And various manuscripts and pictures narrate the story of the struggle for freedom. The museum also has old relics and sculptures from many parts of Gujarat. They've been put on display, together with illustrated and textual panels. Ahmedabad’s Kite Museum is also a part of Sanskar Kendra. It has a fascinating collection of kites, showing the dedication of Ahmedabad’s population to the local tradition of flying kites. The exhibits in Sanskar Kendra Museum showcase the artistic skills of the people of Gujarat. The building itself is an exquisite example of modern architecture. Built amidst vast green patches and plants, Sanskar Kendra was designed by the renowned architect Le Corbusier. And he incorporated several features in the building keeping in mind the weather of Ahmedabad. It has water basins on the roof and sun-shading systems to keep it cool in the unforgiving heat of the city.

Sadly the La Corbusier building is being allowed to slowly decay. The museum is ok. There are a couple of interesting exhibitions.

Sanskar Kendra is a museum that was created to showcase the city’s cultural heritage, art and lifestyle. The structure itself is a marvel and a delight to those who are interested in architecture. The Museum was built by renowned architect Le Corbusier.

Extremely disappointed. Great collection but Badly kept. Barely any ventilation inside. And just one toilet which is also dirty. How can one call this a city Museum. Does it represent Ahmedabad.

Taking your mobile inside Sanskar Kendra is allowed but you can't take snapshots there. You are being watched by a CCTV CAMERA & after some time they will request you to delete the snaps you have taken. Monday closed. However there is a lot of information about Gujarat , Bollywood history & kite culture etc.

Real Beautiful building which is deteriorating with time and officials are doing nothing about it...It comes under Heritage sites of India but the maintenance is very poor...The artefacts are not cleaned for a long time.. It is a must visit place for Architectural Lovers as it is the work of Le Corbusier. This Building resembles 90% of the building of Chandigarh which are shopping complexes.

When you visit this museum, you will get mixed feelings in mind. The museum is very good as far as the content is concerned. It is well rich with items representing great culture of Gujarat. However the museum itself is not maintained at all. Broken ceiling, spider webs, bird nests and roaming dogs can be your companions during visit. There is no visiting fee. It is all free. I recommend to authorities to pay attention on such a great cultural asset of state.
