It's such a peaceful place, and I was lost in it's architecture. Ahmedabad is UNESCO’s First World Heritage City in India. And Jama Masjid is one of the main attractions. Doesn't matter from which religion are you, you should definitely visit this place when you're in Ahmedabad.

Jama Masjid (literally Friday Mosque), also known as Jumah Mosque or Jami' Masjid, is a mosque in Ahmedabad, and was built in 1424 during the reign of Ahmad Shah I. The inscription on the central mihrab commemorates the inauguration of the mosque on the 1st Safar A.H. 827 or January 4, 1424 A.D. by Sultan Ahmad Shah I. The mosque lies in the old walled city, and it is situated outside Bhadra Fort area. The old walled city is divided into separate quarters or pols, and the Jami' Masjid is found on the Gandhi Road. Along the south side of the road, the mosque is a short distance beyond the Teen Darwaza or Tripolia Gate. The Jama Masjid was the fifth mosque structure built during Ahmed Shah I's reign. The prior mosques had either been modest in size or were for private use. The Jama Masjid was the complete opposite of its predecessors in that it was a large, grandiose structure. The mosque complex has a large paved courtyard that can be entered from three different directions. The courtyard has an ablution tank in the middle. The west side of the building is home to the prayer hall. The entire mosque is emblematic of what came to be known as Gujarat style architecture.

There are around 11 Jama Masjids, located in different cites of India like Delhi, Bhopal, Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Agra, Mathura, etc. However the Jama Masjid of Ahmedabad is unique in its Architecture, having mix of Islamic and traditional Hindu architectural elements. Built in 1424 by Ahmed Shah 1, it is one of the structures that helped Ahmedabad gain the status of India's first UNESCO World Heritage City. It is open for all and doesn't charge any entry ticket. The entry gates are not so pronounced. So, if you're planning to visit you should ask someone or you may miss it among the crowd & the busy shops.

This large and very beautiful old mosque was one of the most important buildings constructed by Ahmed Shah I after the establishment of Ahmedabad as his capital. Constructed in 1424 CE, the Jami Masjid (congregational mosque) is in the shape of a large square, its central area occupied by an immense courtyard, with an old wazu tank (for ablutions) in the centre. The corridor that rings the courtyard has giant letters in Arabic painted along the walls, and beautiful arches all along. The main prayer hall of the mosque has exquisite stone carving, both outside and inside. Women are not allowed inside the prayer hall, and photography is not allowed either, but my husband, who was able to enter, reported that the mosque has rows of carved pillars - three hundred of them, as mentioned on the sign outside - which are spectacular. No entry fee is charged, but a dress code is in place.

Today's visit to Jama Masjid in Ahmedabad was truly captivating. The majestic domes and minarets showcased the grandeur of Islamic architecture, and stepping inside, the intricate carvings transported me to a different era. Despite the city's hustle, the mosque's spacious courtyard provided a peaceful retreat. Experiencing the rich cultural heritage and the tranquility within Jama Masjid made today's visit a memorable and spiritually enriching journey.

Jama Masjid, a majestic structure in the heart of the old city, is an architectural marvel that resonates with centuries of history and spiritual significance. Its towering minarets and intricately designed domes command attention, drawing in both worshippers and admirers of Islamic art. The grand courtyard echoes with the prayers and footsteps of devotees, creating a serene atmosphere that invites contemplation and reflection. Stepping into the Jama Masjid is like stepping into a sanctuary of tranquility, where the past and present merge, leaving visitors in awe of its timeless beauty and the enduring legacy it represents.

As historical place, the construction, stone used, designs on pillars etc. and other historical stuffs will fascinate you. But worst part is,it is surrounded by immense crowd so it takes away its beauty. As inside it is peaceful. Surrounding area also consists of small historical structures which are not maintain & due to over crowd and constructing new things with old walls, ruins it.

The Jami Masjid is said to be one of the most beautiful mosques of the Islamic Architecture. The stone art is simply mesmerising. Modern day CNC machines may not be able to carve what the artists have crafted 600 years back. It was built in the year 1424 and now maintained by the Sunni Waqf Board. Talking about space, it can accommodate thousands of people. One must visit to explore the beautiful architecture.

Jama ( Jumma ) Masjid is Built by Ahmed Shah in 1423, in 15th century. It was built for mainly Friday prayer . It was once the biggest mosque in Indian Subcontinent. The Prayer hall has 260 columns which support 15 Principal Domes at different elevations. The great shaking minarets lost half their height in the great earthquake of 1819. Review by Inspiring Dreams

Peaceful Place , Jama Masjid, the principle place of prayers for Muslims was built during Ahmed Shah’s reign in the 15thΒ century. It was supposedly the largest mosque in the Indian subcontinent. The mosque was constructed as part of a larger design of the city. It lies south of the processional axis that runs from the Maidan-i Shah with three arches called Teen Darwaza in the old city. Ahmed Shah, his son, and grandson have mausoleums west of the mosque. A short walk away lies Rani no Hajiro, the tombstones of queens and wives of the dynasty. Nice architecture , best to visit in evening!

It is one of the largest mosques in India, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. -> The mosque was built in 1424 by Sultan Ahmed Shah I, and it is considered to be one of the finest examples of Gujarati architecture. The mosque is made of yellow sandstone, and it is decorated with intricate carvings. The main prayer hall is a large, open space with a high ceiling. There are 265 pillars in the prayer hall, and each pillar is carved with a different design -> The mosque is absolutely stunning. -> The mosque is open to visitors of all faiths, and it is a great place to learn about Islamic architecture and culture.

Thank fully not in bad shape like delhi jama masjid this mosque too should have been in much better conditions with muslim contribution but dont know why such mosques are not restored properly. Any ways in enjoyed my visit and would recommend any one visiting ahmedabad to visit this place. Prayed my isha namaz in this mosque and it was a good feeling wondering who all must have been here while this was constructed , how many people must have prayed in this mosque , this place like any other old monuments has so many stories within itself. It was nice feeling hope and pray that muslims learn to protect and maintain such monuments.

Built in 1424 by Bhamani ruler Ahmad Shah I (1411-1442), the Jami Masjid of Ahmedabad was probably the largest mosque constructed on the Indian subcontinent at the time. Conceived as a part of the emperor's grandiose urban vision, the mosque lies to the south of a royal processional way that travels eastward from the Maidan-i Shah and the triple gateway known as Teen Darwaza. To the east of the mosque are the tombs of Ahmed Shah, his son and grandson. A further adjacent enclosure, Rani Ka Hazira, houses the tomb of the Shah's queen and other royal ladies. Built over many years, the mosque complex is centered on a vast paved courtyard that is about seventy-five meters long and sixty-six meters wide. The Mirat-i-Sikandari (1414-15) gives detailed measurements of the mosque. The courtyard is entered from three gateways, one at the center of each side. There is a long rectangular ablution tank in the center. It is wrapped by a colonnade on three sides, with the prayer hall occupying the western side.

This place is not accessible by car! The historic mosque with its large and impressive court is really nice. There are always friendly people to show you around (though their English might be very limited). Unfortunately this place it is not very photogenic.

Jama masjid is surrounded by crowded noisy market. As soon as you enter the mosque you can feel the fresh air refreshing your mind and purifying your soul. The peaceful environment with pigeons eating grains and sipping water at pool is adorable. The grand monument is an example of great architectures and artist shaping the stones in beautiful curves and tiny well finished traditional designs are awsome

One of the most impressive mosques in the Old City of Ahmedabad. The intricate carvings and the lay out make for a monument who's grandeur and majesty are truly impressive. The scale and proportions of the building and the huge courtyard are grandiose. A superb example of how a stupendous monument has been neglected. This mosque deserves to be declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Jama Masjid was a fifth mosque structure built during the reign of Ahmed Shah. The first mosques were either minor in size or were for personal use. The Jama Masjid was the full contrast to its predecessors. Because it was a large, grand structure. There is a big convention in the mosque complex, in which three different directions can be entered. The whole mosque architecture is known as the Gujarat style. πŸ‘ŒπŸ‘Œ

Its like finding a gold in very crowded market, you enter from the small gate and experience the vast ground and rich architecture of this grand mosque. I would say that they should add some security for footwear since outside market is very crowded and mostly filled with so many beggars.
