Dalpatram Dahyabhai Travadi (21 January 1820 – 25 March 1898) was a Gujarati language poet during 19th century in India. He was the father of Nanalal Dalpatram Kavi, a poet. He led social reforms in Ahmedabad, and wrote articles against superstitions, caste restrictions and child marriage. He dealt with the problem of widow remarriage at length in his poem, Vencharitra. In tribute to Dalpatram's work, AMC and citizens of Ahmedabad proposed a memorial at the site of his house, which was destroyed in 1985. With very few references or photographs available, it was very difficult to recreate the house. References were taken from the memories of residents and the architectural design of surrounding houses to create a memorial in the form of facade of the house and statue of Kavi Dalpatram in 2001. In 2001, the memorial became a part of Heritage walk of Ahmedabad. The design of statue was debated before they came up with the idea of Kavi in sitting posture with a book in his lap. The statue is made of bronze and weighs 120 kg.

It would be better if you visit this place in early morning with less eyes to stare you. Overall it's good place. Dalpatram (1820-1898), a native of Wadhvan, was the first Gujarati poet of Sudharak Age.

In tribute to Dalpatram’s work, AMC and citizens of Ahmedabad proposed a memorial at the site of his house, which was destroyed in 1985. With the help of References available from the memories of residents and the architectural design of surrounding houses, a memorial in the form of facade of the house and statue of Kavi Dalpatram was developed in the year 2001. Since then, the Memorial with the Statue and house facade became part of Heritage Walk of Ahmedabad, and the house location in Lambeshwar pol was named as ¨Kavi Dalpatram Chowk¨. The statue has the empty shoe of kavi, which is very dear to the children. The memorial also serves as a platform for community gatherings. His plays and recitations are also enthusiastically performed on various occasions, including his birthday.

It's live memorial with the statue of Shree Dalpatram. Good place to sit and enjoy the vibe of old city. Children's play games and senior citizens chit chat on Otlo. That's why it's called live memorial.

The design of the statue is amazing with Kavi Dalpatram sitting ,having the book in his lap and one leg folded. The statue is made from bronze and weighs 120kg. Another exciting feature of the statue is one empty shoe on the floor. It is used for community gatherings.

Kavi Dalpatram Chowk is famous for the house of the famous 19th century Gujarati poet Dalpatram who resided there. The chowk houses a statue of the great poet with complete details like – the kathiwari embroidery on his kurta, the worn-out right foot and the meditative look in his eyes.

It is one of the best place of Heritage ahemdabad. And as it is situated in pol area which is generally very crowded, less space to move around. Here you find open place and sitting are either side of it, where you can do any kind of function related to heritage or whatever. Here, you will feel the sense of Dalpatram and heritage of ahmedabad. Here are some of the glimpse of our function, which we did on the day of World heritage day and we performed a Street play on Save Heritage.
