Two new gates added by British after the opening of railways connecting Mumbai in 1864 to facilitate the movement of public. One was Prembhai Darwaza or Prem Darwaza. It's is 16 Feet Broad. The monument or Gate was part of history of City Ahmedabad formerly known as Karnawati City. It's one of the heritage site and part of world Heritage city Ahmedabad. The maintainance of the Prem Darwaza as heritage is not taken care for long and can be seen presently in its structure. Traffic near area is heavy and pollution is also secondary factor which is diminishing its structure and blackening stone. Overall it's welcoming gate to Ahmedabad and appreciated for its built.

Commonly used gate... Very ancient but not given much importance... It just exists but not even noticed by the people passing by... Mentioning the importance on a board somewhere near would be noteworthy... It's sad that such an ancient gate is just uncared...

Prem Darwaja is an iconic place associated with Ahmedabad city established in 1411(710 years). However this gate was built during 1864.Generally it is believed there were 12 gates. It is also believed that there were 16 or 21 gates. In either case, this is one of the gates of a wall (16 feet broad) of ashlar masonry surrounded the iconic city.it is also known as Premabhai Gate too, though not so popular. The Ahmedabad Junction railway station, popularly known as Kalupur Station is within 1 km on linear level. The wall was destroyed by the authority, though a patch of about 500 meter is maintained on the east bank of Sabarmati river and 12 gates are still visible iin the city.
