The history of the Adalaj step-well is established by an inscription in Sanskrit found on a marble slab positioned in a recess on the first floor, from the eastern entry to the well. Its construction was started by Rana Veer Singh of the Vaghela dynasty of Dandai Desh. But he was killed in a war, wherefater the Muslim kingĀ Mahmud BegadaĀ of a neighbouring state built it in Indo-Islamic architectural style, in 1499

    Soothing place for mind as well as body... Very open and green place... Must see the strpwell from inside... Garden and lake is quite magnificent... Great spot for family / picnic

    stepwell located in the village ofĀ Adalaj, close toĀ AhmedabadĀ city and inĀ Gandhinagar districtĀ in theĀ IndianĀ stateĀ ofĀ Gujarat, and considered a fine example of Indian architecture work. It was built in 1498 in the memory of Rana Veer Singh (the Vaghela dynasty of Dandai Des), by his wife Queen Rudadevi.
