This is over 500 years old fort. It's now open to see it , just that we need to keep our id card at the entrance and need to pick it up once you are done. Octagonal Palace is a nice architectural monument. Leaders block is a place where many of the freedom fighters were prisoned from 1942- 1945. Our first prime minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru wrote his famous book Discovery of India in this prison. They have many self explanatory boards. One can walk on the walls of the fort. It's nice panoramic view. Very quite place.

It is a place of huge historical significance like many important leaders loke patel, nehru etc were imprisoned here after 1942 Quit India Movement. But its not at all maintained properly. Presently under Army administration. When i went (june, 2022) it was closed (officially not opened after corona), but still they agreed to see as we were coming from far.

Best with a view of ancient Architecture. This fort is under Army for rest of the whole year and only opens for public on 26th January and 15th August. So there is lot of rush on this 2 days. But one of the sad truth is while it's under the control of Army there is no steps taken to preserve this monument. There were lots of wild bush everywhere. They need to cut this down so the monument will be safer for our next generation. This fort is known for its Fortification it's a marvelous structure made by Nijam shah. Whenever you vist this place, Please don't spred your garbage here keep it in your bags or throw it in dust bin. Save the monument for our future.

The Ahmednagar fort is a small fort occupied by military. Military allows visit of fort free. The structures inside fort are in dilapidated condition in absence of maintenance. The wall of fort is strong and one can walk on the wall of fort. It takes maximum one hour to complete tour of fort

Ahmednagar fort is in the premises of army cantt. Had the opportunity to visit fort and witness the historic architecture of it. Visit leaders block where pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and other freedom fighters were kept in prison. I was awestruck by the vibe of the place. In this prison itself pandit ji wrote Discovery of India and other great works with the help of other intellectual minds. Must visit place.

Ahmednagar Fort : Pride of Ahmednagar. Once known as the as the second-most impregnable fort (the first one being the Gwalior Fort), Ahmednagar Fort was the main headquarters of Ahmednagar Sultanate. Malik Ahmad Nizam Shah I, the first sultan of the Nizam Shahi dynasty, ordered to built this fort so to protect his city against the invaders. Unique features of the fort like 18m high walls supported by 22 bastions; one large gate; three small sally ports; glacis; no covered way and a ditch revetted with stone set it to look apart from other forts of India. History has it that Chand Bibi, a regent of the Shahi dynasty, successfully defended the fort from the Mughals many times. But Mughals were somehow able to conquer it. Adding to its historical significance is the fact that Aurangzeb died here in 1707. After Aurangzeb's death, the fort passed to the Nizams in 1724, Marathas in 1759 and later the Scindias in 1790. In 1803, Ahmednagar fort was taken over by British during the Second Anglo-Maratha War. During the days of Quit India movement, Britons made a prison in the fort. Various diplomats of Indian National Congress like Jawaharlal Nehru, Abul Kalam Azad, Sardar Patel, etc have been detained in this fort. Currently, the fort is the administration of the Armoured Corps of the Indian Army.

Place is good, as Its related to historical place. When Nizamshahi was exist here, Architecture also good, having good amout of knowledge at that time who made this. But now this space is captured by Indian Army, dont know the actual reason but now everything handled by them. When I entered at Fort, Army man asked me to see only gates by going up through that old ladder, which in only located at entrace. Inside seeing not allowed to Public.

This is historical place in ahmednagar, front side of fort is very good but inside there is no more to see, only the rooms are available to see where our political leaders was arrested and spend time from 1942 to 1945 like pandit neharu, sardar wallabh bhai patel. Mashid also available to see for public other all area is under army. It is opening for public on independence day and republic Day only. It's 2~3 km away from mali wada bus stand. Other many things can be checked on google also.

The fort was built during A.D. 1553 to A.D. 1565. The fort has 24 bastions, one large gate and some other gates. The fort has seen many handovers of powers from Nizams to Mughals to Peshwa and to British emperors finally coming under regulation of India post independence. This is very strong fort on ground and was difficult to conquer in the history. It is quite large and some area can be seen by general public as rest of the area is army camp. During Aug 1942 to April 1945, Indian political leaders were kept as interns of this fort which was converted to British jail that time.. View from fort wall is very nice. Feel very proud to see big tricolor flag on the wall ! You can go to tank museum which is nearby (approx 3 km from fort)

  • 3/5 Kapish J. 10 months ago on Google
It is nothing but an area surrounded by stone wall. There isn't a lot of fort looking structure inside, its just old huts. The only place to see is the rooms where Morarji Bapu, Neheru and other polititians were kept in house arrest by British government. Those are just empty rooms, you wouldn't like it unless you are historian or student.
