The Sharjah Art Museum is the centerpiece of the Arts Area in Sharjah. Located in a large building, this museum is extremely spacious and has a good collection of art, both in its permanent gallery as well as from the temporary exhibitions. The museum is so large that, it can hold many exhibitions simultaneously. Entrance to the museum is free and one needs to deposit their belongings in lockers near the reception. Galleries are well-spread out. The museum has many wings, each hosting a different exhibition. From local artists to international collections of note, this has something of all. From paintings to sculptures and artworks, there is a lot to see and admire here. One can easily spend 2-3 hours just taking in all the collections this museum has to offer. To get here, one must closely follow directions as per Google Maps, as the building is in a rather busy area and not that easy to find. While here, one can also check out the art collections at the Bait Al Serkal next door.

I recently visited the Sharjah Art Museum and while the experience was okay, it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Unfortunately, when I visited, only one section of the museum was open and I was only able to spend about 15 minutes there. Perhaps for that reason, there was no charge to enter. If you're not particularly interested in art, I wouldn't recommend making a special trip to visit this museum. However, if you're fascinated by different forms of art, this could be a worthwhile stop for you.

Very nice exhibitions during the Sharjah Biennial. The different installations are all over Sharjah but many of them in the old district around the Sharjah Art Museum. The staff really care about the collections. I walked around for about 6 hours and it was worth it

Situated in the midst of lots of tiny alleys, the Sharjah Art Museum was a Really great place. Lots of galleries with looads of great contemporaty and old artworks, with a central focus on Arab artists and pieces in the upper gallery, whilst the lower gallery (ground floor) is about temporary exhibitions. Not many people (went on a Sat morning), but staff were nice and friendly. Paid parking outside (5dhs for 2 hours), and nice area to walk around with traditional architecture and creek as well. Lots of clothing shops nearby and some food places if you walk a little further away. Overall great for art lovers.

This is the best islamic art museum that I've seen so far. Most of the items are quite relevant to our experiences, each has its own association, so it brings meaning to our visit. Hope you enjoy this to the same extent as I did.

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! It is very lucky to visit this museum with my family last weekend The museum remodeled a traditional Arab based palace. It's another interesting thing to see its architecture and design. When I visited, there was an exhibition of SAMIA HALABY, a famous artist from Jerusalem I was able to enjoy such wonderful works calmly. It's free, too! She was very impressed by her work, and she understood the Palestinian conflict It is a good opportunity to see other Middle Eastern artists' paintings. There were many works that I liked. This place is much better than the other fancy art museums. Absolutely recommend!!

We spent about 1.5 hrs visiting the museum. Strict code is required for long dresses & pants & head needs to be covered. 2 floors . Very quiet & clean. There is even a coffee shop & clean restrooms inside. Educational & interesting . Nice parking for everyone. definite place to you will want to see if you wish to understand a bit more about Islam. The museum takes you through a timeline which was quite fascinating. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was really blown away by this museum when i first went six months ago. The collection was stunning. Though my recent visit wasn't quite as impressive as some of the pieces changed, I'd still give it five stars given it's status as a true gem of Sharjah (plus free entry!).

I won't say it's awesome. It's just okay. The main minus I felt was, the number of artworks displayed is very less compared to the space available. Very big building but they have not utilized the space properly. Since the entry is free, you won't feel disappointed after your visit. It would have been better if they had included more sculptures and exhibits. However, it's a good place to visit for art lovers.

Very interesting museum that displays not only works from Middle East, and some Western views as well. I like the material displayed and there are transitory expositions as well. When I went the museum was empty and it was very atmospheric to walk along the long corridors by myself. The cafe of the museum doesn’t offer anything, just water and coffee basically. The museum is free and I think it’s totally worth it if you’re around and like arts in general.

After crossing the ugly old part of Sharjah from the terminal bus station, we got to this wonderful museum, and we got enchanted! Wow, maybe it was also thanks to a temporary exhibition during an art festival, but both the level of the contemporary pieces of arts, and the way to expose them and combine them with light and music was just great and absolutely unexpected. Go there to recharge in beauty and creativity!

Superb art gallery and collections. Oil paint section was awesome. Nice lighting arrangements. They was offering very nice customer services. Recommending to increase the collections. The main attraction is its free of cost. The entry absolutely free. We can have a different experience by visiting the museum. Sharjah Museums Authority - SMA (Sharjah Museums Department – SMD previously) was established in 2006 by His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, as an independent government department. With the opening of this stunning museum, you can now visit one of the largest art exhibitions in the Gulf region, which contains permanent collections and paintings by renowned artists. You can explore the history of the region through the fascinating masterpieces of local painters and Arab artists who have left an important mark in the local and Arab art world. Explore a three-storey museum dedicated to showcasing artistic creations and collections of more than 500 artworks of various mediums and techniques, featuring a range of expressive techniques that will spur your imagination. Throughout the year, the museum holds a variety of temporary exhibitions and art events. The Art Library consists of over 4000 titles in Arabic, English and other languages, along with visual and audio materials.

For the amount of zero dirhams, you get to enjoy different kinds of art. It is especially lovely to go there early in the morning during winter. It is peaceful. Sometimes you will find someone painting beautiful art on the walls of the heritage area outside. It is great place to expand the mind and soul. Great destination for homeschoolers

Great museum with several exhibitions. Currently showing a fantastic photography exhibitions a great permanent collection of Sharjah's ruler. And a decoration show for Anderson fairytales. The museum provides lots of room for the artwork to be shown, friendly staff and it's even free of charge. Could use a nicer cafe or any decent place to have a bite nearby.

Cool Museum with a nice aesthetic. It's suitable for quick and fast artistic inspirations. However, the interactive section was the best part as well as the red euthiopian section. I wouldn't recommend this for a family visit as it contains art that is not fully appropriate.

Suggestion have a better selection of books and memorabilia T shirts, scarfs, reference books etc of the exhibitions on display. Also a paper guide / explanation of the exhibition. Amazing place...hidden gem, more people need to know about it, even in the UAE. It is also free. Thank you.

Beautifully curated museum. It currently has an exhibition about Hans Christian Anderson and his fairytales. We learn that he wasn't only away with the fairies outside his writing but we are left considering the possibility that he believed he was one himself. That aside, there are some interesting pieces of art. It would be lovely to see a little more info about the lesser known Middle Eastern artists. All in all, I'm going to put this on my top favourite list of museums visited. One more thing, the front desk staff are absolutely delightful.

A really interesting permanent collection with a diverse range of art works, but also unusual exhibitions. None of your Picasso's, Modigliani's, etc., but great art nonetheless. The current - until Dec 2021 - Hans Christian Andersen exhibition is well worth a visit, with plenty of hands-on exhibits. Great if you are familiar with his work. Other exhibitions we have seen are also very high quality. Lovely and peaceful - a wonderful resource.
