This is honestly a hard review to write! The pub itself gets 5 stars - amazing varied + constantly rotating taps, lovely staff, nice food that’s fairly affordable and generally a good vibe. LOVE the garden terrace which is like a huge covered smoking area! However, the hostel rooms are not so great. Very tight + compact beds with musty rooms. I did appreciate the fan very much and had a decent night’s sleep, but one toilet between about 30 people on a floor is not enough. Really well connected - stones throw from London Bridge with plenty to do - really recommend the coffee shop next door! However, don’t think I’d visit again unless I was caught short or just to visit the pub.

This was an affordable, decent option for a backpacker's stay in London. Showers had hot water, beds were comfy and clean. Location was excellent, right near London Bridge and other main attractions. On a different note, the place got a bit grimy with overflowing trash cans, and the room could use better ventilation. Also, the bed space is small for a larger person. However, it seemed to be cleaned daily in the mornings. I’d recommend the place for someone traveling to London on a tight budget. Otherwise, I’m sure there are much better options out there.

Experience great, trying a burger, sure it will be fine. Very busy with lots of happy people. A great place. I am a bit confused as the boss says it's a backpacker hostel. Ok but £164 a night, guess I am out of touch. No criticism (in any bad way) but did not realize it was that costly for people to get a room for the night. All done, this is an excellent place, great fun and friendly. Take a bow!!!

Pub is very nice, with a lively atmosphere when it gets busy. The hostel upstairs was clean, but staff would not check you in before 2pm, regardless of bed availability. Also there are triple bunk beds, the lower being almost on the floor, so be aware that beds are a tight space. Showers were good, but toilet and washroom very tight. Location is good, not far from the underground. The Shard, Borough Market, Globe and Tate Modern are nearby.

A lovely little "yard" out the back with shelter and heaters. Great service and beer. A little gem slightly away from the busy Borough Market, but worth the walk

We stayed 2 nights. The staff was nice. Our room had 9 beds, one person was in the bed they gave us so we had to sleep in another bed. There was 9 lockers, but one had a lock on (like it’s been like that for a while) so when we went to leave we had to stuff 2 bags in one locker because all the other lockers were been used. So not enough lockers for everyone. The tiny bathroom (toilet area) was always dirty. The trash was always full. There is another bathroom at the end of the hallway, but we did not know this until the day we were leaving. Difficult to shower because you have to leave your stuff outside on the sink which is always wet. Not sure how they clean the place, maybe with a hose? Because the whole room was wet when we went to shower in the morning, the walls, the sink, the mirror… imposible to brush you teeth without getting your clothes all wet. I mean what the h? If you wanted to put your close anywhere you could not, because everything was wet. And apparently whoever cleaned did not cared to dry it. The place needs a good clean. The hallway, the access stairs needs to be deeply cleaned. You have to go trough the bar to get to the rooms every time. No big deal, but keep that in mind. Let’s say this: out of 23 nights we stayed around Europe, this was the hostel we rated the lowest.

Worst hostel experience I've had these last 2 months. Hardly any ventilation. Very stuffy, smelled like mold as soon as I walked in. Very low beds, I constantly hit my head on the bed as I was getting in and out of bed. The only saving grace was the friendly staff and bar area being open to hostel guests 24 hrs.

Laid-back atmosphere at Rose and Crown near London Bridge. Found it a bit odd being labeled as both a hostel and a pub, but enjoyed a good Guinness without any worries. Noticed they had burgers on the menu, though I didn't try one.

Went during the week towards the afternoon. Quiet but still a lot of fun. The out back seating was really nice, and got to pet some dogs. Lots of great beer selections.

I go here fairly frequently for a drink and food after work. Staff are generally very friendly and smiley, the burgers are great and pretty good value. Beer selection is good and their three house red wines are all delicious

Very great place to stay a few nights. Very clean rooms and confortable beds. However located quite far from the centre of the city. Only close from the London Bridge and Borough Market. The area is very nice but too far. I book a double room (not dortoir)

Cosy atmosphere! We had the burger lunch special, it was delicious and very filling. The house's cider is quite good. We choose the garden, nice paintings and warmers outside. Recommended!

The family-like pub and above hostel is a fun and winning combination with friendly service, smiles, warmth & good people. The convenience/ease makes for a social delight among the jovial British. The only small disappointment was in the chamber with a few noisy young girls as disrespectful roommates (said with understanding that a hostel business cannot control such and most mature folks are considerate and respectful). Cozy beds, quality down blankets overall so warm and comfortable, with nice layout design!

This Pub sits nicely along Southwark & London Bridge just away from the Rail Bridge. It is clean friendly and reasonable priced with list of IPA's that you can enjoy in the Secret Garden. And if you get to personal with the drinks you can sleep it off in one of the rooms available for Backpackers again priced so your not in debt with your Bank.. Pub grub Yummy not messy.. And staff always helpful.. This is a great place to catch up with your friends and family.. Enough said..!!

Great place to stay. Hosts were excellent. Great environment pub. Nice cozy place. Dorms were a Lil bit crampy and toilets were not fully clean specially shower points. Needs a Lil bit separation perhaps with a curtain or something. And food was good but not great. Was hoping for much better burger. Breakfast was actually great. Would have given 5 starts if wasn't for toilets.

Lovely little traditional pub located on quiet street (for london).there are a few picnic benches with umbrellas outside and lots of tables inside. £5.10 for a pint of Estrella but you are essentially next door to the shard.

Great hostel and not far from London Bridge and Borough Market. The rooms were clean and functional. The beds were exceptionally comfortable for a hostel. The associated pub is cozy and offers a wide range of beers and ciders. there is also a selection of food and snacks. the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Highly Recommended !!!

Amazing hostel above this pub for budget stays. Super friendly staff and pretty decent rooms in terms of security and cleanness. Although, sometimes the 9 bed room might get smelly.

Good beers, great burgers. I love the hash browns as a side to my burger here, they're always top tier pints of potato. Edit: recently revisited for drinks after work after a few months and I still love this place. Definitely still a favourite for work lunch and drinks.

Very happy with my stay here. Didn't eat/drink in pub bit so can't comment there. Hostel had good WiFi, reasonable security, hot water & comfy bed. Private room had plenty of space and cool vibe. Definitely weren't as many rooms as I expected, not a big place overall which I liked. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Despite being above a pub it was very quiet in the private room, only noise ever was people coming up to the top floor, or the sound of air hand dryers in bathrooms downstairs. Impressed.

1pm-3pm cheap beers and delicious burgers. Couldn’t ask for anything more. I would have given 5 stars for the pub but the only reason I have rated is 4 is mainly because there was a bald man doing card tricks in the corner of the pub. He pulled me to once side and asked me to think of a card. Out of nowhere, he guessed my card. To this day I still don’t understand how this magician of the public knows what my card is. Bet he lives alone. Good beers on tap

I love the bathroom, clean and great shower, however the room is not that clean , dusty and yellow spot pillow case cover, door is old, need to push hard to close well,so it'd be a bang to close it , staffs are kind and nice, while I stay, a guy stay there being selfish, closed all windows and fan , made the room like an oven because he doesn't like noise ,and aggressively turn it off again when we found it's hot at 02:30am .for what he did and said to me, i didn't feel safe at all, The staff did help talk to him, anyway a nightmare night for me, the other day I knew the same person did this again several times al,he stayed quite long there , IT would have been great if they had warned this guy not being selfish when staying in a small room with many people when he did it couple times before, just buy earplugs, then yesterday night drama might not have happened . but still , thank you for the staff being kind .

I stayed at this place 2.5 years ago in February 2020 and still think about this place. Location is excellent, pub - <3, garden is perfect for a morning hangover coffee. I think there was a discount on food, all I remember is that I had the best English breakfast in my life. Staff is chill and helpful. Sleep was sweet! It was my first time in London and I decided to stay in different areas and types of accommodation. Rose&Crown was a last minute decision, but it takes a special place in my heart. Will visit this place again during my next visit! Gonna bring some more chocolate next time for the staff and the visitors:) 👌🏼🫶🏼

Nice pub with decent selection of beers. We ordered burgers which were OK - tasty but small patties. Could have done with a plate but no biggie. The woman serving was miserable - we arrived to a virtually empty bar - she didn’t even look up from her phone until I ordered drinks. My missus has a broken leg and arrived in a wheelchair. No way she could have entered the bar on her own - I had to lift the chair over the doorstep. She asked the barman who brought our food if she could order a drink at the table. No, only from the bar. The empty bar, 6 feet away. Could try harder.

My sister and I stayed at the hostel for four nights. We didn't have any trouble sleeping there (even if it's above the pub). The staff was so nice to us. They were understanding as we sometimes struggled with English. Food and drinks were awesome, the prices even more so. From breakfast to dinner, we were never disappointed. We were in a 'all female - 9 beds' room and we felt safer than ever. The location is ideal, the underground is approx. 10 minutes away and you can get to the nearest bus stop in 1 minute. The only thing we could mention for improvement is maybe the cleanliness of the bathrooms. A special mention for the good music in the pub ! 😚

Very friendly staff, clean rooms/bathrooms and great location - all in all, it's great for its value, esp, for travellers to/from London Bridge station. My quick stop of choice, really. Due to central location and affordability, this place may unavoidably attact all sorts of people, so had to cross with couple of weird personalities who stayed in the same room, who, maybe, shouldn't have been checked in - but female room is always safe. Despite having a pub downstairs, they manage to keep the noise isolated so sleep never been an issue. Thank you for doing a good job xx

Beds and showers were clean, but as hostels go, this 9 bed dorm was more smelly and hotter than most (which is saying something given that I stayed in March). It would really benefit from better ventilation or air con. The beds are metal-framed three-level bunks which wobble when someone turns over. They don’t feel unsafe, just not rigid. During my stay, snores were vibrating through the bedframe - which says a lot about the snorer, but also the beds. The wet room showers were great; clean and spacious enough to use comfortably. Linen is included, but beware that towels are not (available to rent), 1.5L waterbottles are available to buy, and the lockers are wire mesh cages.

Oh. My. God. I've just checked in and I utterly love this place. My flight was cancelled so I came back from the airport and booked an ensuite double room last minute. Oh. My. God. The place is so convenient, SUPERB LOCATION, great price, room looks SO GOOD. Bathroom is gigantic. I went to the wrong pub down the road, phone in to ask info and the guy that checked me in later has been SO friendly and nice!! I love hostels but this is so good! I want to see a shared room next! The pub downstairs is lovely (reception open 24hrs for the hosteeeeeel), the garden is great, food is fantastic (tasty burgers). Bravo! Love Southwark and you guys

There's a strong argument to say this is one of the most efficient pubs in all of London, with the most frequently varied selection of beers. I've come here a decent amount in the last few weeks - it's always busy but you barely wait 30 seconds at the bar, and I don't think I've ever had to have the same beer twice. Tres bien.

Great Affordable Lunch, for work meetings and with friends and family. Friendly Helpful Staff with great knowledge on the Beer Selection. Front Seating and Covered Rear Seating. Quick Food Service, so great for a quick lunch or a long stay. Within 20min Walk from Waterloo Station and Borough Underground a shorter journey away. Highly Recommend.

I spent a three nights there and can’t say I’ll be returning. The rooms were not good to be honest, you have very little space to yourself and the bunk beds are are too cramped making it impossible room sit properly in your bed or bumping your head you you get up. There is not bathroom in the rooms( no toilet or shower) it’s like a common room in the hallway. There are no other common space like a kitchen or a lobby to socialize. The location is nice though because you are close to the Borough market ( which I highly recommend btw), the London bridge and many others landmarks.

Consider ok compared to all the hostels I have stayed while I travel 3 weeks in England, I love the separate toilet especially its clean and spacious toilet. For medium luggage I don’t think can fit in the luggage locker in the room and the cons is the stairs to carry the luggage up are compact 🤣 pros friendly staff over the counter Strategic location near to city train station 👍👌

Extremely busy place and can see why. The rum shelf is epic and I strongly recommend the pineapple plantation rum. Staff very friendly and good range of beers and spirits on offer. Would like to see a better food selection for vegetarians/vegans but wouldn't take away for it as the mozza "burger" was good especially with the Mexican-style guac loaded fries.

I stayed here for one night in the double ensuite room because I was attending a course nearby. Pro's: - Comfortable bed and cushions - Plenty of outlets for your power plugs and usb plugs - Free and fast WiFi - big desk with comfortable chair - really big shower with strong water jet and steaming hot water - Friendly staff - delicious English breakfast served quickly - Underground is a short walk - Borough market and other restaurants are a short walk away Con's: - Lots of typical hostel noises: party people in the lively bar downstairs and in the streets, slamming doors in the middle of the night from other guests, fray trains run over a bridge across the street from the hostel during the night. You'll need quality earplugs. - The room was a bit hot on a fresh September night, I guess it will be really hot in summer. There is no Aircon in the room. - Lots of very small stairs to climb to get to the room. You'll struggle if you bring a big suitcase. - For some reason, there is a bright yellow green light right above the bed that stays on all night. I couldn't figure out what it was nor how to put it out. Tip: The brunch is 9 pounds but guests get 25% off. You might be cheaper off to book a room without breakfast and buy your breakfast with your discount.

Only second review I’ve ever written. Wandered in after a predictably rubbish experience in Flat Iron Sq. Michael welcomed us as we came in, and he and the team properly looked after us all evening. Staff in here are absolutely fantastic, great sense of humour, lovely people. Quite simply the rudest publican I have encountered in 30 years visiting licences premises. The first time I visited this lady refused to believe that the larger was flat and made us who queried it feel completely uncomfortable. She the refused to replace them, she didn’t taste the beer, just looked at it with her magic eyes. She was rude throughout. However we gave her the benefit of a doubt and revisited as the place is local to our office and this time she was so rude I was shocked. She came to serve us and because two out of 9 of us said we were exempt from wearing a mask, she muttered to herself and walked back into the pub. We waited outside for ten minutes until I went in and asked if she can serve us and she refused. She had left us all just sat outside without telling us she wasn’t serving us and why. It turns out last time my group went one said they were exempt and she took offence and said we were trouble. After a year with no business I am sure the owner of that pub would be made up that this curt, rude and insolent woman had turned a group of 9 sober people away, professional working people who don’t cause trouble, who all wanted to eat when we were the only customers there. GOOD LUCK whoever owns this place, perhaps look at the type of person you employ because that woman’s customer service skills are the worst I’ve ever encountered, appalling, will never be going back and will be speaking of my experience to others.

Visited twice in the last month. Great to find a pub with a good and regularly changing line up of craft beer. Tried the burgers this time as well and they were also good.

Great pub, great hostel. Regarding the pub, they have a good selection of burgers and a great lunchtime set deal. They have a wide variety of London based craft beers, and the venue is comfy. The hostel has been recently renovated, and for the price, it's fantastic. Remember to bring your own towel, toothbrush, and padlock. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Makes a big difference to staying there. A solid improvement would be to include towels for guests, skipping these seems a bit of a Ryanair approach to making up for the cheap accommodation price. Bump it up a pound or two and include towels!

Lovely welcoming pub and clean, affordable bunk accommodation plus great staff. A bit pricey on drinks but broadly not too bad for a prime London location. Outstanding gourmet burgers and food, breakfast a bit so so but the overall experience, ambience and location are simply first class. If you are resident then state it at the bar to get your 19% discount. Recommended and will return! The whole Publove franchise is cool!!!

Haven’t checked out yet but these guys are awesome. Pub open 24 hours for guests. They’re there for you whatever you need. There was a mix up w my reservation and they immediately fixed it. Prices not bad and the whole place has a classy vibe to it. Seriously the staff is awesome. Love Jack and Thomas

Great boozer since it's refresh a couple of years ago. Nicely kept booze, great staff - very friendly and knowledgeable. Not eaten here but food looks tops, kitchen super clean (you can see if from the bar). Dog friendly too

The rating I have given is for the hostel/dorm. Some basic amenities like kettle, microwave oven were not there. Beds were cozy and well kept. Wash rooms are average as well. If you are looking for just a hostel, there are better places around The bar and restaurant are average.

nice local pub to the office, always try to grab some people out for a drink on a thursday. They have a good selection of beers with attractive specials always on offer. Last week they had 2 for 1 G&T's which was greatly appreciated!

We stayed five days at Rose&Crown. Hostel was really cozy, clean and comfortable. We enjoyed the location, it was easy to go everywhere. Staff was friendly and we felt ourselves secure the whole time there! Thanks :)

The hostel is fine, you get the allusion of privacy by how the beds are positioned. However the staff doesn't even say hello when you come in and the cleaning is ABYSMAL. I'm saying puke stains for days and sanitary pads everywhere as the bins are full.

Reception is 24hrs. The hostel pub is open 24hrs for guests. The location is good. The staff is friendly. The price is good. The bad news is the rooms are small and not much light, the room was very warm just with one fan. It could be more toilets and be clean more often as it wasn't very clean at all (bad engineering). The towels cost 5 pounds.

Decent but Not worth the money. Great position for visiting the city center and move with the trains from London bridge. Staff people are nice and helpful. Everything it's quite clean and the showers are big. BUT: In a room for 9 people, there is barely the space to stand, only 6 hooks for hanging clothes, no shelfs, no mirror, not ever a trash bin! And obviously no air-conditioning and a tiny window. Paid 35£ for sleeping in a sauna in almost 40 degree it's ridiculous, I almost left at 11pm until they found me another bed which was slightly better.

Reasonable prices, especially food. Had the chicken wings and they're absolutely outstanding for the cost. Reasonable priced beer for the area and good beer variety. Well poured pints - thoroughly recommend!

THE WORST customer service I have ever experienced. Come in almost every week as the office is near by and there's two guys on the bar who are very rude. Very expensive. Only thing good is the burger when you finally get them. Someone needs to speak to the staff cause its awful

We stayed in The Rose & Crown for four days and we really enjoyed it. The accommodation was clean and even though it was a 9-bed-room we really liked our room. Unfortunately some of the bathrooms weren’t that nice but it was still in an okay state. The food in the pub downstairs was delicious and the atmosphere there was great! The staff was amazing, especially Mark helped us out multiple times, so thanks again for that! To sum up we would definitely come back as the price-performance ratio is excellent, especially for that central area.

Came for lunch and it was great. I ordered the Hen Solo and it was delicious. Not too amused about the names of some of the burgers as it’s disrespectful to the respective religions but freedom of speech aye? The Burger was seasoned well but wish it was bigger! I had some regular fries with it and it was equally as tasty.

Came by this pub by chance which from the outside looks like a proper old school pub. I side very different with a great choice of ales and tasty burgers it was ideal. Staff we good and food tasty but also good value. If you want a good choice of ales and tasty burger this is certainly worth a visit. Also just for a drink.

Me and my friend just went to this place as they're offering a lunch cheeseburger and it was so disappointing! The service was terrible and the food was awful. We arrived around 13:15 and ordered the burgers for takeaway. The girl told us that it would be 5-10 min...only at 13:45 is that we got our order...it took them more than 20 minutes to make this! And it wasn't even busy. If it was I would understand as I have worked in hospitality before but this is ridiculous. The other guy gave us the takeaway bags and didn't even apologize for the delay, neither the girl that took our order. I have worked in a bar before and this is just had customer service, not apologising or even offering something complementary to compensate for the extra wait time. Also when I asked how long it was going to take, I noticed that the "chef" was not wearing any gloves while cooking...I was disgusted but unfortunately the burgers were already being made. We finally got to eat our burgers and the meat butty is completely burnt...I can even see black pieces mixed with the cheese and sauce... simply disgusting. I would not recommend going to this place for food at all!!

Good pub and good snack bar food choices. The service was a little slow as the person was new, but others behind the bar helped out - nice. Loaded fries were tasty.

Very pleasant, comfortable stay in a private double room above a friendly pub We were in the double private room which was comfortable and nicely designed. It was very quiet - as it's above a pub I was expecting it to be loud but the room is in the top of the building and we didn't hear much at all.

The retrofit to put these hostel rooms in was...not handled well. The shower/WCs do not have any airflow, so the ceiling is turning black with massive amounts of mold. So much so that I opened a door and turned out immediately. While the power outlets in the bed cubicles is nice, the height of the room and structure makes having three to a stack challenging. Doable. But let's put some extra effort in and just commit to the capsule hotel feel

Although the location is great and the price is very cheap. The rooms are not that great. Would't recommend it if you're travelling. The luggage compartment is in the basement and not nicely accessible. Only book if there's any emergency.

Yeah had a really lovely time at the Rose and Crown, the Australian bartender Nick was really hospitable and lovely. And he was so handsome and sexy as well and I heard he got rid of the clap last week so he is super clean also. 5 stars and a repeat customer, well done rose and crown and well done nick
