We were there very early in the morning when it was less busy and were able to go inside the other smaller pyramids. Impressive artwork and. You can combine with a visit to Giza but this one is the oldest Pyramid.

Love love loved this, better than the Giza Pyramids. Such an interesting area and going into the tomb here you don’t have to pay extra and it is just extraordinary. Felt very surreal being surrounded by these ancient hieroglyphics.

This is less touristy but same vibe. This was the first location where I realized all the pictures on the wall used to be in color. It must have been quite a sight to see everything in color. Also observe how light enters these structures and hits the door.

This was an amazing site to visit and it is a worthwhile tour. The columns inside were beautiful and you could get up close to the pyramid. Of course like all the sites in Egypt the street merchants are very aggressive. But that come with the experience.

This site is less crowded than the great pyramids and the tomb of Idut is really interesting. It's definitely worth the trip out from Cairo. You can see the Red Pyramid and Bent Pyramid from the site.

An amazing experience to visit the first temple ever built in the world more than 5000 years ago. The surrounding area is still being excavated and new finds are uncovered daily. You will enjoy the place as it is less crowded than the giza area. But not to be missed.

The Pyramid of Djoser is the first Egyptian pyramid and it is the oldest pyramid in the world. We are lucky to have visited here because this is rare architecture pyramid that look like steps and it is also known as Step Pyramid. It was build in 2780 BCE by King Djoser's famous architect, Imhotep, built the first pyramid by placing six mastabas, each smaller than the one beneath, in a stack to form a pyramid rising in steps. This Step Pyramid stands on the west bank of the Nile River at Sakkara near Memphis.

For some reason this pyramid left a bigger impression on me than the one at Giza - I think because it's less touristic and surrounded by a more authentic setting. Also the hieroglyphics are beautiful and it's definitely worth to go inside (which wasn't the case with the ones at Giza necropolis).

Fabulous. Get an all inclusive ticket and also pay 100LE to go inside the pyramid. We negotiated half price foreign student tickets in exchange for a 40LE 'tip'. The tomb of Ty had the most incredible hieroglyphics. I'm not normally interested in stuff like this, but these were superb. The Serapium takes you through dark underground chambers with huge black granite sarcophagi, and one you can walk around. How on Earth did these get cut so smooth and geometrically accurate? Mind blowing. There was more to explore, but those were the highlights. Inside the pyramid was quite good and worth doing to tick off the list.

The guides will attach themselves to you hoping you pay them for their services. Being polite to tell them to back off doesn't work, or even raising your hand in a stop sign, so best just to show your dissatisfaction that they're being pushy by sternfully telling them to back off or else. The site itself doesnt have much in way of info boards

Traveled Egypt this past March 2021 and this is one of the most highlighted part of my trip. To be honest, I haven't made a research about this part of the country until I came to visit as part of my itinerary. I went to this place first before sightseeing the pyramids of Giza. I haven't paid attention with the detailed explanation of my guide, however, all I can say is, this place is amazing!! Talking about the tomb, the temple that was destructed and the pyramid itself, architectural from way back years ago is stunning! Well, I believe that once you visited Egypt, you'll visit this place for sure. Please do as this part of your trip is the least crowded place that I went into. PS. I am still amazed with this place as I am looking back to the photos taken the day I visited.

(Translated by Google) The pyramids extend from Abu Rawash in Giza to Hawara on the outskirts of Fayoum. They are royal buildings built by the ancient Egyptians in the period 2630 BC. Until the year 1530 BC. Its construction went from a gradual pyramid like the pyramid of Djoser (3630 BC - 2611 BC) in Saqqara to a tilted pyramid and then to the well-known complete pyramid shape represented by the pyramids of Giza. The pyramids were built to preserve the mummy of Pharaoh and to assist him in his journey to the afterlife and his ascension to heaven. King Khufu built the Great Pyramid to bury him in it, and the ancient Egyptians believed that the king’s spirit would continue to take care of them even after their death, then it ascended to heaven and joined the rest of the gods. Then he can take care of the living on earth by sending the flood of the Nile, grow and prosper, and prevent evil from them. Wow... I am in awe of the first pyramid! What was accomplished in ancient Egypt defies the logic of what we understand of that time. Such an incredible experience! The tomb chamber is beautiful and in spectacular condition. Even the metropolis designed around the tomb are a sight to behold! Very nice to see some of the wall sculpting in and around the buildings. Egypt is doing a great job of maintaining these sites! Highly recommended

Unlike the great pyramid of Giza, this place is well managed, very clean and with no many merchants to bother you. Don't forget to take a historical photo in the entrance of the complex, imagine, a 4600 years old wall and still is reflective.. check the photos. Over 4600 years old construction, the oldest pyramid on planet Earth and the first building to be built with scaled bricks in thw whole.history of humanity. First was intended to be one level "Mastaba", but the responsible engineer Imhoteb then said "Why not build several mastabas over each other...". The place is HUGE, must have a car, visit during winter and with lots of water with you. Don't forget to visit the small museum next to the tickets booth, and taste the dates of the short palm tree there, it is free, delicious and very healthy.

This is the first Pyramid ever built, it had a different architectural design, 150 years later they improved the design and became what the other pyramids look like with 3 straight walls. On the way there you will see "Date Farms", last year Egypt was awarded #1 in date export in the world passing Saudi Arabia.

I visited the pyramid of Djoser in October 2021 with my tour group. We had the pleasure and permission to enter inside the newly renovated and recently opened in 2019. When entering the pyramid please be aware of the ceiling, it is about 5‘11“ high maybe 6 foot high in certain places. If capable visit the bottom of the pyramid to see the tomb at the bottom. which has been renovated.

Out of all the places visited in a recent trip to Egypt, the Pyramid of Djoser was by far the most pleasant site! What makes it pleasant? 1. First thing I noticed is the energy of the site itself... calming and more relaxing (then most other sites). Not sure if we were lucky, but there weren't a TON of people here. It was so calming and relaxing place, people sat close or on the base of Pyramid meditating. Myself, personally, I felt those who built this Pyramid did it out of love and for a purpose (not being enslaved), knowing this will be for the purpose of the afterlife, knowing they personally were doing something so very profound for such a king they truly loved and admired. 2. You don't have (a ton of) the vendors following you trying to sell you something. 3. It's much more quite! Such amazing beautiful history in Egypt...

If you’re in Egypt and going to Cairo you must visit Saqqara. It’s about 30min drive from the pyramids in Giza. This is home to the nation's oldest pyramid call the Step Pyramid of Djoser. You can visit both pyramids inside which was an incredible experience! I can still feel my legs two days after the walk! This place is not as busy with tourists as Giza and the tickets are cheaper too. Definitely recommended.

(Translated by Google) Dahshur contains an ancient Egyptian royal tomb, as well as a number of pyramids built between the years 2613-2589 BC [3] The pyramid of Senefru was the first pyramid of Dahshur, which was built during the reign of King Senefru, in which Senefru tried to build a smooth-sided pyramid, but as a result of some errors in cutting stones and the softness of the soil on which the pyramid was built, the pyramid bowed. [4] Therefore, Senefru ordered the construction of the second pyramid of Dahshur, the red pyramid with a height of 104 meters and an angle of inclination of 43 degrees. [5] This pyramid was known as "the red pyramid" for the use of red limestone in its construction, and it is believed that King Senefru is buried in this pyramid. [6] During the Twelfth Dynasty, King Amenemhat II built a pyramid in Dahshur, now called the White Pyramid. However, its sandy façade was eroded by weather factors, so limestone was used in other pyramids, and the stone collapsed, thus defiling the tomb of King Amenemhat II. King Senusret III also built another pyramid in Dahshur, as well as tombs for princesses Setathur and Mert. Also in Dahshur were found a number of royal tombs of royal princesses, which contained a large amount of jewels and elaborate jewelry. In addition to several small pyramids for royal princesses, south of Dahshur. Also in Dahshur were several large tombs of some officials of the ancient Egyptian and Middle Egyptian kingdoms around the pyramids of Dahshur.

The first stone structure ever built, EVER!. And what a first attempt it is!!! 5,000 years later and vizier's Imhotep's creation still stands and awes. Unbelievable experience and for only 100 EGP. Recently restored sections do look a bit different than the ancient stonework, but the scaffoldings are gone and there are virtually no tourists around.

Step pyramids- my guide told me if the economy under a certain pharaoh was better, so was the quality of the pyramid for this pharaoh. Of course the pharaohs built their tombs long before their demise. And one dynasty “recycling” building materials from pyramids from previous dynasty often happened too. There was one bas-relief depicting a hippo giving birth to a baby hippo and a croc was at hippo’s rear, opening his mouth and waiting to eat the new born. It was vivid and cartoonish funny.

Why come to Egypt and not come to the oldest pyramids? This site was incredible and loved the contrast to Giza. We got an uber and then paid that driver to take us around - best plan we had! The site is quiet with not many people or vendors, leaving you to explore and take in the history. Would recommend coming here about 10-11am, probably earlier in the heat. The pyramid is located in Saqqara, about 25 kilometers south of Cairo. It is a six-stepped pyramid, rising to a height of 62 meters. The pyramid is surrounded by a large complex of buildings, including temples, courtyards, and tombs. The Step Pyramid of Djoser is a significant archaeological site, as it provides insights into the early development of Egyptian architecture and engineering. It is also a testament to the power and wealth of the ancient Egyptian pharaohs. The pyramid is open to visitors, and it is a popular tourist destination. Visitors can walk around the complex and explore the pyramid from the outside. They can also enter the pyramid through a narrow passageway, which leads to a burial chamber.

Amazing ancient structure in a pretty (desert with palms on the way in) place. Amazing to see and touch. Tempting not to give a high rating, because the lack of people was a highlight. Inside and out, I got to experience solo exploration at times. There were other people, some getting intense salespeople, but far from being overwhelming. The museum on the way in was enjoyable too. Well-presented artifacts and info.

The step pyramid of king Djoser was the first monumental building in stone in the history of mankind , Originally the tomb was intended to be a huge mastaba in stone , but it then underwent several extensions , Only later was the building changed into structure in four steps , these were extended again until the pyramidal form was finally reached in sixth stage, at a height of nearly 200 feet ( 60 M ) .

This is said to be the oldest pyramid in Egypt built by Imhotep. After you get in to the main open area if you walk left then left you will see a low, new wall. Look over the wall about 25 meters down to a burial pit for a sarcophagus that was abandoned. It shows you how deep the real one probably is. 1 star off for the most aggressive vendors and tomb minders we encountered in the 2 weeks. They still aren't as bad as the Great Wall of China.

The Pyramid of Djoser (kbhw-ntrw) is the oldest pyramid in the world. It was built more than 4.700 years ago; and it is older than any civilizations except China. The Pyramid of Djoser was to facilitate a successful afterlife for the king so that he could be eternally reborn. We stayed in the area for less than 48 hours at Holiday Inn Cairo Maadi hotel, which overlooks the majestic Nile River and has panoramic views of the great Giza Pyramids.

The pyramid is built as six mastabas or steps, each being an additional layer which was unplanned at the inception of the construction. There is also a giant court in the periphery of the pyramid which is supposed to help the king to eternally perform the rituals associated with kingship in his afterlife.

The idea of constructing the step pyramid of Djoser goes back to the engineer and doctor "Amhotep", known in ancient Egypt as the engineer of the funerary group in the pyramids of Giza. Amhotep was working as a minister for King Djoser and built the pyramid for him. The pyramid of Djoser is distinguished by its distinctive architecture in the form of terraces and terraces, and it is the oldest huge stone building in history. Inside the Twain Papyrus, the name of Djoser, the second king in the Third Pharaonic Dynasty, was recorded in red, as an indication of the distinction of this king, who ruled for nearly 29 years, and the Egyptian state at that time was known for its stability and building prosperity during his reign (2640-2611 BC). (Translated by Google) The step pyramid of King Djoser is one of the most famous monuments in Egypt, and it constitutes an important historical turning point in ancient Egyptian funerary monuments, and is considered a revolution in stone architecture and the royal burial. In addition to its huge size, it was the first pyramid built by the ancient Egyptians and the oldest known stone building. The age of building the pyramid goes back to the beginning of the Third Dynasty, during the reign of King Nitrecht (2627-2648 BC), now known as Djoser, which is the most common. Before his reign, Egyptian kings and elites were buried in mastabas. The term "mastaba" refers to a type of funeral structure that was generally rectangular in shape and built over the burial pit, which was underground. The step pyramid consists of six mastabas that give the shape of the terraces, and the engineer Imhotep was probably the owner of this great innovation. At one end of the hierarchical group is located a building known as the southern cemetery, which is considered a symbolic tomb for King Djoser, perhaps reflecting his role as the king of Upper and Lower Egypt, and the hierarchical group contains some distinctive elements. And the renewal of his strength, and the stone chapels on the eastern side of the courtyard were used in this celebration, which ensured that the king would continue to renew his youth forever.

(Translated by Google) The pyramid of Djoser, the pyramid of Saqqara, or the step pyramid [according to whom?] Is an archaeological landmark in the Saqqara necropolis northwest of the ancient city of Memphis in Egypt. Built during the 27th century BC for the burial of Pharaoh Djoser. Built for him by his minister Imhotep. The engineer and doctor Amhotep was the principal architect of the vast funerary group in the pyramid's courtyard and the ceremonial structures surrounding it. The first Egyptian pyramid consisted of six mastabas built on top of each other, something that represented a tremendous development in the design of tombs in that era when one mastaba was only satisfied. The step pyramid of Djoser was 62 meters (203 feet) high, with a base area of 109 meters x 125 meters (358 feet x 410 feet), and was covered with polished white limestone. [2] The step pyramid was considered the first stone structure of its time, [3] although the enclosures known as the Director's Bridge appear to have preceded the construction of the pyramid. The pyramid was affected by an earthquake in 1992 that affected the structure of the pyramid and led to the fall of parts of the funerary group and it was the oldest pyramid in history. The site of the funerary city in Saqqara has been a part of the funerary sites of the city of Memphis, a World Heritage site since 1979. ( use the ticket office as a destination in maps not the Pyramids location its self) After getting your tickets at the ticket office, you are able to drive up to very close to park. We paid our uber driver to stay and wait and take us back to central Cairo. You Do Not need to have a guide with you. There are gentlemen in each tomb to explain for a small tip. Much easier than a guide who is with you all of the time. Explore the area...absolutely huge and beautiful.

I like the Saqqara pyramids more than the Giza pyramids. There is a lot more to explore, and significantly fewer tourists and peddlers. The archeologists are always discovering something new here.

Djoser’s Step Pyramid in Saqqara is one of Egypt’s most iconic monuments—and rightfully so. It constitutes a significant historical turning point in ancient Egyptian funerary monuments, revolutionizing stone architecture and royal burials. In addition to its beauty and monumental scale, it is not only the very first pyramid that the ancient Egyptians ever built, but also the oldest known ancient Egyptian stone structure. The sheer age of the Step Pyramid is astounding. It was built in the early Third Dynasty, during the reign of King Netjerykhet (c.2667–2648 BC), who is now more well-known as Djoser.

Another type of pyramid form. It is a stepped pyramid, and the site is not far from the Giza complex. Definitely worth visiting if you get the chance. The crowds are not as huge as in Giza and there are plenty of areas that allow people to walk in and view the inside of tombs and such. Wear comfortable shows as walking in and out can be slippery. There are restaurants nearby that serve great food.

Really worth the visit, how ever the site has alot of garbage and the site is not well taken care off. It's a shame to see trash littered around such an important historical monument. It is just like the rest of Cairo. Be aware of the large tour groups, either get there early or after 11 am.

Mastaba, the tombs of kings or nobles of early Egypt, are stacked in several layers and gradually become smaller as they go upwards. The oldest is the pyramid of King Djoser, the second king of the 3rd dynasty (c. 2660 BC) at Saqqara, which is a six-story mastaba, with a base of 108 × 120 m and a height of 60 m. The Stepped Pyramid is located about 30 minutes away by car from the commonly known Giza Pyramids. There are fewer people than the Giza Pyramids, so you can look around slowly. There is Imhotep Museum, so you can get a good idea of the situation and history at the time. The museum is very well done and I highly recommend it as a must-visit place. In the temple around the pyramid, you can see that the workers raised each brick one by one according to the architect's design at the time. The 15th double door located at the southeast corner of the eastern façade served as the actual passage. Pairs of towering bastions stood on both sides of the double door, and entering through the door led to the colonnaded corridor. After passing through the thick wall through the double door, the colonnaded corridor came out. The colonnaded corridor, roughly facing southeast, consists of about 40 columns, each 6m high, facing each other in pairs. The columns are hewn in the shape of bundled reed stalks, and at one time supported a limestone ceiling carved in the shape of a palm tree. However, now all the limestone ceilings have collapsed, leaving only the pillars. Judging from the fact that there is a pedestal with statues between the pillars, it is presumed that the statues of Djoser and the gods were enshrined there, but none exist. What is unique is that a wall connected to the pillar was erected behind the pillar, but I am only guessing that more walls were built because he was concerned that the pillars would not properly support the ceiling due to the lack of construction technology at the time.

Worth seeing as this is an early pyramid. Spoilt by hagglers wanting to sell you their wares or services. Far more info available just Googling.

I actually enjoyed this site more than the other pyramids. There were less people hassling you to buy souvenirs. That said, see them all. Good areas for photos here. Camel rides here are not as nice as at the Great Pyramid. This is an excellent way of seeing the difference over history of pyramid construction.

Amazing place with amazing history. Let down by lack of shade and the ticket men not letting us take our time inside. He wanted us to leave despite there being nobody else. Probably could have tipped him to let us stay. Not a lot of shade so be careful

A stunning ancient pyramid, the well known landmark in Saqqara. If you want to enter, be aware the "All-inclusive" pass does not include entrance. You have to purchase additional tickets.

There will be many people there trying to guide you, but the guy in a long gray dress, a little overweight, short and with colorful eyes, is very sweet and explains everything very well. Of course, he will ask you to leave him a little tip after your tour is over, but he deserves it. You should definitely see this place, there are many excellent graves. You can spend a full day.✨
