(Translated by Google) The Sphinx The Great Sphinx is one of the largest statues in the world, with a length of 20 meters, and a width of 73 meters, and it is distinguished by the body of a lion and the head of a human being, and its head is decorated with the royal headdress, which is a statue carved from one piece of limestone, according to some estimates It took about three years to build by 100 workers using stone hammers and brass chisels, and most history scholars believe that the Sphinx belongs to the fourth dynasty that Khafre added, yet some believe that it was built by Khafre's elder brother, Djedefre, to commemorate Their father is Khufu, and these scholars point out that the face of the Great Sphinx bears more resemblance to Khafri, which is rumored that Khufu himself was the one who built the statue. That he would need in the other world from thieves, and it was also believed that its building was pointed at the top of the pyramid, to be a starting point for the king's soul to ascend to the sky and join the sun god, but in the nineteenth century a hole burst from the north side of the Great Pyramid, and it was The entrance to the pyramid was recently cleared. Today, visitors enter the temple corridor that leads to the Great Gallery, which is a wide corridor of 8.53 meters high, to reach the king’s room, which is lined with hard red granite walls, to see the king’s coffin that was broken by thieves. , Which is the only thing that was left in the room, because they did not know how to get it out of the corridor. [2] The three pyramids The pyramids are located on the Giza Plateau in the Egyptian cemetery, where they are the most famous compared to the pyramids of the Old Kingdom, and contain three huge pyramids, which are: 3] The Great Pyramid of Khufu, who ruled from about 2589 to 2566 BC. Ibn Khufu's pyramid, Khafra, is believed to have ruled from about 2558 BC to about 2532 BC. The pyramid of Khufu's grandson, Menkaure. A must see when you are visiting the Pyramids. It is a short drive away from the Great Pyramid, and a separate entry ticket is needed to walk in to see it up close. It gets busy and crowded at times, so you may have to be patient to get good photos. There is a light show of the area sometimes that can be viewed from here. Check online for times and tickets.

The Sphnix, a head of a human, body of a lion and wings of an eagle. Another great landmark to see in the Giza Complex. We parked on the side of the road next to the Sphnix, it was illegal but we just took care of it the Egyptian way and got to stay. Nice to see and crazy to see this in person.

Standing so close to the Great Sphinx of Giza is breathtaking. Amazing to finally see the Sphinx after reading about Egyptian history in our school books. The area for viewing the Pyramids and the Great Sphinx is quite large so you never really feel too crowded.

I want to warn all citizens who come to see the pyramids. 1️⃣ When coming here, make a reservation for 1 night only. Do not believe the distance of hotels to the pyramids. Do not believe the shared landscape pictures. You can easily decide your next nights with a 1-hour taxi trip and map review. (taxi is very cheap) 2️⃣ Be sure to download the uber app and make all your trips with uber. It is both affordable and reliable. 3️⃣ ❗️Never answer people on the street who are constantly trying to sell you individuals. 4️⃣ ❗️ After entering the pyramids, they first direct you to the sphinx, never comply, they force you to ride camels. Don't pay more than $5. 5️⃣ Everyone comes to take photos with you. Be careful, they take 2 photos with your own phone and ask you for $4-5. 6️⃣ Before going inside, take 2-3 bottles of cold water. 7️⃣ The hotel with the best view around "The great pyramid in". It also has excellent views and cleanliness. 8️⃣ If you are a student, the ticket is discounted, but students over the age of 25 cannot benefit from this discount.

The monument is amazing, and I got to share the experience with my colleagues, thereby making it all the more special! I was relieved that the vendors largely left those who were not interested in buying anything alone. The only thing that would have made it even better would be if we could have seen the Sphinx from other angles.

I was on an organized tour, so we were guided through a temple that ended at the Sphinx. We had free time to explore on our own. All I can say is MAGNIFICENT. I had never been that close to it or seen the back of it I saw people going into it. On my next visit, I will get a ticket to go inside. While I was standing in awe of the Sphinx, a man wearing a necklace ID offered to take a picture and asked for my phone. I said, "No, thank you." I was aiming my phone to take a picture when he tried to take the phone out of my hands. It was more like a tug and not a forceful grab. Security was already moving in because he was standing too close to me. I held onto my phone. I want to stress that I did not feel unsafe, I do believe he only wanted to use my phone to take a picture of me. I did not want a photo, and I didn't want to pay a tip. Nothing is free. Please be aware of your surroundings, but know this, I felt safe everywhere I went.

The great Sphinx of Giza is is a very unique monument, with the body of a lion and head of a human. Part of the face is broken, but it still looks marvelous with the Pyramid in the background.

Fantastic place and mesmerizing to even think of this structure being over 4000 years old. Completely agree it to be wonders if the world. But the experience is totally run down by the locals pestering you to buy goods, or take camel rides or simply ask for tips. They refuse to take a NO as an answer and too many of them running after you one by one. They wouldn't even listen to the Arabic speaking guide who was with us !!!

A statue at the top of the huge and colossal size, and by looking at it you can tell how something beautiful like this was carved, and with this perfection and beauty, something really fabulous. The ancient Egyptian antiquities always have a great and beautiful presence. You will definitely like this place. To the side of where to sit and some green grass to enjoy watching this beauty

After visiting the pyramids we had a short drive, to get to the sphinx. The to let to visit the Giza pyramids complex included the visit to the sphinx. We crossed through an open temple, to get closer to the monument. We didn’t go inside. We were in a group, and that was not an option. We stayed there for maybe an hour. It is something that you have to see with your own eyes. It’s unbelievable even when you are there. I imagined getting closer to it, but we didn’t get that close. It seems that touching is not allowed. It’s a majestic limestone sculpture, even from far away it’s hard to imagine how they were able to make it out of a solid block of stone.

The Sphinx is an amazing historical monument in Giza and it's amazing that it's still standing to this day. My only disappointment about coming here is the harassment by locals on trying to scam me as well as the fact that the complex is not isolated in the middle of the desert as you'd imagine it to be. The fact that there is a KFC and Pizza Hut almost directly behind you says a lot about how the city has stretched out all the way to the pyramids. Such a shame, but still definitely a must visit!

It's strange to finally see the Sphinx, it's tucked away from the Pyramids, and rather on a cluttered heap of stones but it's still wonderful to see. You run the gauntlet through the shops but it's an impressive sight.

Visit on 07.07.2023: Have to say this was my fourth and best visit in the last two years. This time I visited early morning a little after gates open and before the "tourist" buses and crowds descend. I also note a vast difference in this visit as opposed to my previous visits in 2021, of no hagglers, no nonsense of being followed and harassed by fake tour guides, or cheap merchandisers looking for tips/bakshi's. The only annoyance was the fresh hot camel horse and dog excrements all over the walking paths I had to constantly obstacle course navigate early in the morning. I would expect as much as the admission fee is now to have a clean, decent walkway, Seriously. Outside of that deplorable observation, without a doubt, this was the most sacred pilgrimage to the Sphinx I ever felt in this lifetime.

A little smaller in real life, but still a beauty. You can't get close to it though, only photo in the distance for front, and on the top of the valley temple for the sides. There a LOT of people here both sellers, and both tourists, which makes the place very crowded and painful to move so slow in the unbearable heat.

This is one of the coolest structures I could have imagined seeing. Learning about Egypt in school and finally getting to see it in person was amazing. Beware there are going to be so so many people there, and especially do NOT give any people with camels your money. These animals are treated poorly. We recommend staying in a hotel near the entrance for stunning views of the pyramids at night and quick access to the park. You will be harassed, but we found it best to politely yet firmly decline hagglers inside the park.

(Translated by Google) The head of a lion lying on the sand, according to scientists, was sculpted from the pharaoh Khafre - and although science still does not know the time of the construction of this sculpture, there is logic that it was either during Khafre's life or after his death - in any case, we arrive at an approximate date of about 2400 BC. It is also unknown how the Egyptians themselves called this monument - the word "sphinx" is Greek, and appeared much later than the buildings in Egypt.

Located just outside of the outskirts of Cairo on the esplanade known as the Giza Plateau, the Great Pyramids of Giza is Egypt’s most famous archaeological site. All three of Giza’s famed pyramids and their elaborate burial complexes were built during a frenetic period of construction, from roughly 2550 to 2490 BC by pharaohs Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure. Egypt’s pharaohs expected to become gods in the afterlife. To prepare for the next world they built temples to the gods and gargantuan pyramid tombs for themselves – filled with all the things each ruler would need to guide and sustain himself in the next world. Each pyramid is part of a much larger complex, including a palace, temples, solar boat pits, and other features. The site also includes the remains of many smaller temples and settlements, which are invaluable for understanding ancient Egyptian life in this area.

This limestone statue also has many names including the Sphinx of Giza or just the Sphinx but no matter what you call it is certainly an iconic landmark, especially because when you look at it straight on you can see three of the pyramids. While the typical angle shows you the broken nose, when looking at it from the side you get a true sense of the size – it extends 240 feet from pay to tail and is still in remarkable shape considering it dates back to the Old Kingdom making it more than 4,500 years old.

Current hours as of June 2021- opens at 8am. Go right in the beginning when it’s the cooler time of the day, you will have the pyramids to yourself. The whole complex is walkable, make sure to bring water and a hat. Hiking gives you an opportunity to take the time to soak it in. We took our time, and spent 2 hours there. Occasional breeze was a delight. Don’t let the weather report scare you away from visiting in June/July.

If you're ever in the area, make sure to check out the Great Sphinx of Giza – it's definitely a must-see in life! This iconic statue is located on the west bank of the Nile River, and it's one of the oldest and largest statues in the world. With its impressive size and mysterious history, it's no wonder that the Sphinx is such a popular tourist destination.

I would spend some time looking at it at different angles and different degrees of closeness. Compelling and beautiful in a different way . Worth doing some reading before to appreciate it in context of the times and the pyramids and to learn about its discovery. Try to have some quiet time with it. Truly stunning. You must pinch yourself to make sure you are really seeing the Sphinx in real life! Beautiful and awe inspiring! Just sit nearby and take in the view of the pyramids and the Sphinx. It is huge . It is so big that is is pretty amazing, I specially liked seen the backside of it with the lion's tail, and the stone bricks at the base.

Picturesque but not as imposing as you’d expect. it was disrespected as a by-attraction after seeing the pyramids when it should be given it’s own glorious attention . You can’t get too close so have a good camera handy for photographs. The locals were helpful with taking photographs with iconic poses but most just wanted to be compensated in return. Don’t ask for the favours, let them offer instead and you need not part with a penny. Worth ticking off the list of must sees.

Must visit. The Pyramids of Egypt stand as timeless marvels, enduring symbols of ancient ingenuity and architectural prowess. Built over 4,500 years ago, these colossal structures, including the iconic Great Pyramid of Giza, were constructed as elaborate tombs for pharaohs. Composed of massive limestone and granite blocks, the precision in their alignment remains a testament to the advanced engineering skills of the ancient Egyptians. The Great Pyramid, in particular, was built for Pharaoh Khufu and held the title of the tallest man-made structure for millennia. Its mathematical precision in alignment with cardinal points and the awe-inspiring symmetry continue to mystify historians and archaeologists. Theories surrounding their construction range from intricate systems of ramps to extraterrestrial involvement, adding an air of mystery to these ancient wonders. These monuments not only served as burial sites but also reflected the Egyptians' deep spiritual beliefs, with intricate hieroglyphs adorning the walls, depicting the pharaoh's journey to the afterlife. Despite centuries of exploration and study, the Pyramids retain an aura of enigma, captivating the imagination and inviting us to marvel at the brilliance of a civilization that left an indelible mark on human history.

he most famous Sphinx is the Great Sphinx of Giza. It is one of the largest and oldest statues in the world. Archeologists believe that it was carved around 2500 BC and that the head is meant to be the likeness of the Pharaoh Khafra. The Great Sphinx faces the sunrise and guards the pyramid tombs of Giza. How big is it? The Great Sphinx is huge! It is 241 feet long, 20 feet wide, and 66 feet high. The eyes on the face are 6 feet tall, the ears over three feet tall, and the nose would have been nearly 5 feet long before it was knocked off. It is carved out of the bedrock in a trench at the Giza site

(Translated by Google) Colossal statues are one of the hallmarks of ancient Egyptian civilization, and the Great Sphinx of Giza is the most famous of them. The statue was carved in the rocks of the same region during the Fourth Dynasty (2613-2494 BC), making it the oldest. Ancient Egyptian sphinxes represented the king with the body of a lion as a clear indication of his power. Evidence indicates that the Great Sphinx was carved during the reign of King Khafre (circa 2525-2532 BC), the owner of the second pyramid of Giza. The statue of the Sphinx and its temple in front of it are located directly next to the temple of Wadi Khafre and the lower part of the ascending road leading to its mortuary temple and pyramid. A careful archaeological analysis revealed that the Valley Temple was finished before work began on the Great Sphinx and its temple, while an analysis of the facial features of the Great Sphinx revealed striking similarities to statues of King Khafre. The Great Sphinx captured the imagination of travelers and explorers for thousands of years, even in ancient Egyptian times, during the Eighteenth Dynasty (1550-1295 BC), it became seen as a manifestation of the sun god, and it was called Horus im sister "Horus." In the horizon, “King Amenhotep II (about 1427-1400 BC) built a temple next to the statue of the Great Sphinx he dedicated to this god, and his son Thutmose IV (1400-1390 BC) built a huge plate between his front feet, which It is called the dream board, in which he recorded a wonderful event.

Visit once in your lifetime it worthwhile being there watching the Great Sphinx with face of man , head of woman and body of lion. It's a very unique experience overall which you won't find anywhere on this planet. Taking a horse ride or your own vehicle will add a cherry on your Giza itinerary. Make sure you don't fall prey to vendors inside because they demand ransom high prices for their local products. If you are interested in taking pictures of those ancient structures then take some pictures just at the entrance posing with different styles. And when you are done come out and search for some stores with real papyrus paintings they're good to buy as a souvenir for family at home. Overall 10 on 10.

Visiting Giza is every but as magical as you would expect. It was definitely a bucket list place for me and did not disappoint. There is a lot of walking to see the pyramids and the Sphinx but is worth it. I was not going to ride the camels because it seemed like a very touristy thing to do. I changed my mind and had a blast. I'd recommend a little time spent on a camel.

Interesting historical site and is one of the most significant sculptures in the world. Watch out for the local sellers who can easily take your hard earned cash, and be a bit careful as it can get very busy. Make sure you go through the Mummification Temple on your way to the Great Sphinx as this was where all the grim stuff happened which preserved the bodies for 1000’s years.

Utterly amazing! You can see where the reconstruction was done, and where the water lines are in it that clearly show signs of flooding and retreating if water. I can’t imagine how beautiful it was when it was first built!

This is such a great monument, we can’t imagine how ancient Egyptian could build it. But unfortunately when we were there in 2015, we weren’t able to visit it closely and take a photo near it. There were reconstruction works and it was closed and we were able to take photo only from far. I enjoyed my time there and I wish you to see that with your eyes, fortunately I think there are no reconstruction works now😇 thanks for reading my review.

(Translated by Google) A breathtaking gigantic statue (length - 73 meters, height - 20 meters) of the ancient Egyptian deity of the Sphinx - a lying lion with the face of a pharaoh facing the Nile and the rising sun. There are disputes about the dating of the monolith's establishment: whether it was installed under Khafren (Khafre) in the middle of the 26th century BC, or much earlier (up to the 5th millennium BC). Be that as it may, the Sphinx is the oldest surviving monumental sculpture.

We went inside the Great Pyramid in the morning and stepped outside just as the sun was coming up. Going down between the front paws of the Sphinx, walking around it with Dr Hawass and touching it was so cool! The Sphinx is not hollow and there's nothing underneath. Like most Sphinx it's carved out of solid rock. Incredible!

The Great Sphinx of Giza, commonly referred to as the Sphinx of Giza or just the Sphinx, is a limestone statue of a reclining sphinx, a mythical creature. Facing directly from west to east, it stands on the Giza Plateau on the west bank of the Nile in Giza, Egypt.

The view is insane-it's must be on the to do list once in a life. A place full of history indeed. There are also tourists and groups of tourists that ghater all in the same places, local guides giving all the same info about the temples-that's a little bit annoying to hear three different men talking about the same thing each one in his own style of yelling. Another minus is the "exit path" that is full of local merchandisers trying to make you buy smth for 1$. All in all,the place is a must once in your life.

Always loved the ancient culture of Egypt. It was something out of the extraordinary to being able to see it in real. Would be a completely marvellous and unblemished experience if it wasn’t for the hassle and harassment especially at the entrance. Otherwise, get yourself a camel 🐪 (cuz you can ride a horse elsewhere) and go for a ride to feel the energy of this spectacular place. It’s something you’ll remember for life. 😊👍

Beautiful structure which makes you wonder the amazing craftsmanship of ancient Egyptians. Also a marvel from the excavation experts who unearthed this amazing structure. Down side are the locals who will irritate you and test your patience. Asking for maney, favours, Bakshish. Stay away from them and avoid them. Do not talk to them or even ask for simple favours like clicking picture and stuff. Carry you water bottle and take care of your belongings. Try to visit early morning or late afternoon.

I'm not looking at what's inside or at this amazing structure and whats its true purpose is thought to be.... It's whare the sphinx is looking in the sky or what it's looking at ...and I got a good hunch that what it is looking at. It can only be seen for for a little glimpse of time!!, at a very Precise time, when that happens is when the sphinx is eyeing it down. Only when planetary alignment happens just right! Then that sight will be gone till the next time it comes back around. It could be only once in a thousand years this location In outer space reveals itself!!. What is the sphinx looking at? And is it on earth or out in the sky/ outer space?

(Translated by Google) The Sphinx located in the valley of Giza, is attributed to the pharaoh Kefren and is part of the funerary monument in front of his pyramid. Khafren, son of Cheops, continued the tradition of his dynasty in funerary monuments. Famous among Egyptologists is the Stele of the Dream, erected by Tuthmosis IV after falling asleep in the shadow of the Sphinx in a dream in which the statue offered him the throne of Egypt in exchange for the future Pharaoh ordering to remove the sand that then covered much of it. Tuthmosis kept his word (which shows that restoring the Sphinx has come from afar) and, either through the intervention of the Sphinx, by his own merits, or by mere chance, the then prince would become pharaoh over two brothers older than him.

The Great Sphinx of Giza one the wonders that had the minds of many scientists and Egyptologists. You have to visit the Great Sphinx of giza if you want to visit Egypt. Also go inside the great giza pyramids to check how huge and unique are them. And always remember Egypt is safe and will always be. Have a safe day and a happy life 😊 From Egypt with live ❤

You can't explain what it feels like to stand in front of ancient masterpieces until you're there. I've seen pictures and documentaries of The Great Sphinx throughout my life, alongside the Pyramids and Egyptian wonders in general- but nothing- not a single things compares to being there in person. It was worth the 42 years of wait!

  • 5/5 Rayhan U. 1 year ago on Google
Iconic. Try get around to get unique angles if you are a photo or video lover. It looks little smaller when the background is the great pyramids. However, compared to other spinx around the Egypt, this is the biggest.

A breathtaking monument! Feels so surreal standing in the view of the Sphinx and the pyramids. We were fortunate as it was not too busy and the weather was perfect! Not too hot in April, I’m sure following months will be unbearable!

Absolutely amazing structure. The Valley Temple of Khafre is located to the front left and is definitely worth seeing especially the large blocks used in its construction. Visit early when it opens to avoid the deluge of bus loads of visitors. Included in the Cairo Pass ticket.

Iconic sphinx that can’t be missed on your trip to see the pyramids. There is an entry next to the sphinx where you can enter and see the sphinx right away otherwise it’s gonna be quite a walk to get here. I also recommend coming bright and early when it opens at 8 so you can take photos without the crowds of people.

Amazing work of art. One giant statue from a single rock. Management should inform the public about the reasonable costs of the services (camel ride, horse cart, etc) inside the site.

A truely iconic statue, beautiful situated with views of the pyramids all around and almost front and center for the sound and light shows at Giza. The immediate proximity of the Sphinx is quite busy but you can tlstikk get fantastic views of it either way!

There's no place on the planet like this. I was passing through Cairo on a layover from Aswan. I had a guide who picked me up from the airport and we made it to Giza in 45 minutes. We did not book in advance. There are a lot of people who want to sell you everything from a camel ride to a alabaster pyramid but everyone was very good natured. It's well worth the trip.

  • 4/5 Zeno L. 8 months ago on Google
Definitely amazing to see from a historical point of view. Much smaller in real life versus most photos you are online. We came in July and let's say it is HOT. Our tour guide recommended coming from October to March, and if we had a more flexible schedule, I would recommend it. 100+ walking around was a little rough. We did hire a tour guide and luckily we had an air conditioned can taking us to each site. Overall you will run into quite a number of people trying to sell you stuff. We were concerned with the rumors that you will get scammed trying to take photos, but overall we avoided most of them. One woman did také my phone from me to take pictures of my wife for me and implied I should tip her after, so be careful if you don't want that.

  • 5/5 Kit L. 4 months ago on Google
I know the tour guides used to bring their clients to the side of the Sphinx. I get it because that’s the closest spot you can reach. however IMO, you can get an even better shot if NOT entering the temple, but going to its front. If you do so, you’ll capture both Sphinx and the pyramid! Hope my photos help justify

  • 5/5 Makki A. 5 months ago on Google
What a great place to visit. Lovely scenery and was bang on weather. Perfect timing as we went just before they shut (4.30pm). We had a horse and carriage which saved us from walking, but the hustlers were violating within their prices and overcharged. They love to hustle you for anything so just ignore their request. Other than that it was Amazing to see the great pyramids of Giza.

  • 5/5 Shome S. 4 months ago on Google
seeing from close quarters, we realised it is made of a single stone. majestic. the best frontal view is from an enclosed area that hosts the Sound and Light Show.

  • 5/5 Charity G. 4 months ago on Google
A must see if you visit the pyramids! Note, it is a separate ticket to enter here. We rode horses/camels from the pyramids to here. Very beautiful!! Visited the Great Sphinx of Giza with local friends. Visited in October, very busy! Definitely worth visiting though!! It was an amazing sight to see and my son was so excited!!
