Very cool! This is my 2nd Hercules temple to visit. The location was up on a hill, easy to find. Has a bathroom and restaurant too. Cost was 3 dinar for non - Jordanian , Jordanian citizens was 0.25 dinar. Visited on a weekend , no line! Definitely recommend , amazing view !

Great place to check out with some real interesting history. Amazing 360 views of the city. There could be more information but the scenes are interesting and Roman columns are pretty cool to climb around. Kids loved it but it could be very dangerous if they slip.

This is once in a lifetime experience. Very easy to reach and the view from the place is breathtaking. It is like going back a millennium or more through the history of human civilization. The place is clean and well maintained. I recommend the place to be visited taking all the time to explore every aspect of it. The guides are helpful to an extent but don’t let them rip your money. I didn’t need one, I just tipped to keep the smile on and explored on my own. The best part is the all around view from the highest point here. I would visit again during winter. Yes, do not forget to take your camera 📷

Went here with a tour group, but could have easily spent more time wandering the historic ruins and going through their small museum. Jerash seemed to be a nice city as well.

Amazing place to visit when coming to Amman. You can really feel the history of the site. I would say the best time to come is about an hour and a half before sunset, the colours are fantastic and you get a great view of the city. Well worth visiting.

It's amazing! The Temple of Hercules was built in the II century AD during the Roman rule and was dedicated to the ancient Roman god-hero, demigod and patron of courage. This temple was one of the most significant religious buildings in ancient Amman. The temple was built with large stone blocks and had a rectangular layout. Its dimensions are impressive: the height of the preserved pillars reaches nearly 9 metres. Each pillar was decorated with images of the faces of mythical creatures on the capitols. While these photos were taken, tourists were passing by, clearly Europeans. They were charmed and started clapping, and then exclaimed in chorus: “Kiss! Kiss!”. It was very funny :) In a few days we met them again in Petra and, keeping the tradition, they exclaimed it again.

The Roman Temple of Hercules is a remnant of the time when Amman was one of the most important cities of the Roman Empire. It's impressive to see that the remains are still standing, even if only part of them.

This temple of Hercules is a significant ancient structure located within the Amman Citadel in Jordan. Believed to have been built during the Roman period, it is an impressive example of Roman architecture in the region. The temple once housed a colossal statue of Hercules, the remains of which can still be seen today. Its strategic position on the Citadel hill offers visitors stunning views of Amman and the surrounding areas.

I really enjoy the visit to the citadel. I was amazed by the details in the Stones and the remaining structures. I also enjoyed the small museum and the view of Amman from the top of the hill. Before here I also went to the Roman theater. Both are amazing especially considering that they both were builded over 2000 years ago. To arrived there I walked from my hotel which was also a nice experience.

There's not much remaining of this temple on Amman Citadel but whatever is there is pretty decent. A few tall columns, some intricate pieces, lots of stones and ... the Hand of Hercules, which supposedly belonged to a huge statue of Hercules. It feels very nice to stroll around this area in the bright morning sun and the views of the city are amazing.

🔘Temple of Hercules🔘 ⚫Temple of Hercules is larger than any temple in Rome itself. ⚫Located in the Amman Citadel in Amman, Jordan. ⚫The temple was built in AD 162-166 and is about 30 by 24 m (98 by 79 ft) wide and additional with an outer sanctum of 121 by 72 m (397 by 236 ft). ⚫The portico has six columns ca. 10 m (33 ft) tall. ⚫The remains of a colossal stone statue is believed to have once been a part of a colossal marble statue of the demi-god Hercules, and estimated to have been over 12 m (39 ft) tall. All that remains are three fingers and an elbow. ⚫Hercules was the son of Zeus and a mortal woman (Alremene) and was known for his super natural physical strength. ⚫Also, Hercules is depicted on Roman coins minted in the city, which was called Philadelphia at the time. ⚫The fact that the rest of the temple remained unadorned by columns suggests to scholars that the structure was never completed, for reasons history has yet to reveal. ⚫The temple was probably destroyed in an earthquake.

Great ancient temple inside the amman citadel. This is the fist and best in citadel. Huge ruins of a big building. Few remain. Better go around the building and get awesome photos. I like the 3 fingers and the elbow of the stratue of hercules. Morning and evening gives the more natural looks to get pics.

(Translated by Google) The Roman Theater dates back to the 2nd century AD, and is considered one of the most important tourist attractions in Jordan in the Jabal Al Qala area in Amman The theater of the Roman era, when the city of Amman was called Philadelphia, accommodates nearly 6000 people, and is located in the eastern part of the famous Hashemite Square, and the theater was built facing north to prevent the influence of the sun on spectators during the reign of Antonius, the ruler of Philadelphia at that time. The amphitheater is divided into three horizontal sections, with side entrances one leading to the choir, the other to the theater, and some rooms behind those entrances. The theater is currently used to hold national concerts and the country’s annual festivals, and the interior rooms include the Museum of Jordanian Folk Tradition and the Jordanian Folklore Museum. This place is included in the Jordan pass. They didn't verify anything when I said I have it. I liked and disliked those ruins at the same time. I liked the part where I could walk pretty much anywhere, including ancient rocks and stones. I didn't like the part where I could walk pretty much anywhere, including ancient rocks and stones, destroying them in process. There is a small archeology museum inside the complex. It's also a sunset spot and a viewpoint of the big chunk of the city. I highly recommend going there around 5 pm so you can hear the prayers from mosques all over Amman.

The only this advice you Don't not fall to these ppl waiting at the gate and try to sell you everything and walk with you and later they will ask you for money . Boy was it hot when we were there. And we had seen all the sites at Jerash before hand so we were a bit worn out. Nevertheless glad to have been there. This is known both as the Temple of Hercules Victor and Temple of Hercules Olivarius. Handy hint for trivia games. The temple dates back to the 2nd century BC and is considered one of the earliest surviving Roman temples.

A colorful street in Amman, but.... It doesn't really feature the true Amman. Great for those Instagram shots and meeting other travelers in a cafe to exchange experiences. Good for a couple hours. Than head out to the downtown area and real local shops. Amman is sooo much more than any single street. Don't be afraid to walk away from the touristy places, it is always safe. That's when adventure begins.

The cobblestone street itself is a good candidate place to be an attractive place, but unfortunately those shops and their owners behave in a rude way, they keep calling for anyone walking in the street to come in , this method is so ugly and useless, besides lots of unhealthy smoking areas . No need to spread bad habits to show that it is a modern place , smoke respectfully and responsibly. In general, the atmosphere is suboptimal and uncomfortable. Low quality restaurants with low nutritional value .

The Roman Theatre is phenomenal. It’s a site of history that as Jordanians, we must be extremely proud of having in our country. At this time of the year, when you go visit, you’ll feel the winter breeze through you as you walk through the site. I would recommend going at this time of year, wear a jacket, gather your family and go!

Built in the 2nd century AD, one of the well preserved Roman theaters in the world. Capacity is almost 6000+ seats and usually activities and ceremonies take place there. Entrance fee is JD 2 per person. If you are making a city tour in the old part of Amman then this is a must see monument.

Really interesting archaeological site to visit. The roman theatre of Amman it's one of the best preserved in the world. If you like history (but even if you don't like it 😅) it's one of the places worth visiting in Amman. Of course you have to pay the ticket, but then you can make the stairs and go up to see the theatre from above. Really great structure. At night the area in front of the theater is full of life with a lot of jordanians who meet there and pass some time with friends and family.

It's a historical place n worth visiting. If weather is moderate, it's advisable to visit it afternoon. For a thorough visit, three hours are enough. We can carry our own refreshments there. We study books there as well. We can enjoy more if we study in advance its background. The staff is very professional and cooperative. The inside museum provides an excellent time line. There is no security issue as tourist police remains present there.

The Amman Citadel (Arabic: جبل القلعة, romanized: Jabal Al-Qal'a) is an archeological site at the center of downtown Amman, the capital of Jordan. The L-shaped hill is one of the seven hills (jabals) that originally made up Amman. The Citadel has a long history of occupation by many great civilizations.[1] Evidence of inhabitance since the Neolithic period has been found and the hill was fortified during the Bronze Age (1800 BCE). The hill became the capital of the Kingdom of Ammon sometime after 1200 BCE. It later came under the sway of empires such as the Neo-Assyrian Empire (8th century BCE), Neo-Babylonian Empire (6th century BC), the Ptolemies, the Seleucids (3rd century BCE), Romans (1st century BCE), Byzantines (3rd century CE) and the Umayyads (7th century CE).[2] After the Umayyads, came a period of decline and for much of the time until 1878 as the former city became an abandoned pile of ruins only sporadically used by Bedouins and seasonal farmers.[3][4][5] Despite this gap, the Citadel of Amman is considered to be among the world's oldest continuously inhabited places.[6] Most of the structures still visible at the site are from the Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad periods.[7] The major remains at the site are the Temple of Hercules, a Byzantine church, and the Umayyad Palace. The Jordan Archaeological Museum was built on the hill in 1951. Though the fortification walls enclose the heart of the site, the ancient periods of occupation covered large areas. Historic structures, tombs, arches, walls and stairs have no modern borders, and therefore there is considerable archaeological potential at this site, as well as in surrounding lands, and throughout Amman. Archaeologists have been working at the site since the 1920s, including Italian, British, French, Spanish, and Jordanian projects,[8] but a great part of the Citadel remains unexcavated.
