No body else does Channapatna like Varnam does. Unique, elevated and thoughtfully designed pieces that can be easily incorporated into many styles of home decor. Also love that this is a social enterprise, helping talented craftspeople make a decent wage and also keeping alive a 200+ year old tradition.

Varnam is one of the best store to go for when it comes to handicrafts and toys. Very fine and creative work. Keeping years old craft alive. Store located in the centre of city. Very welcoming staff.

This place is brilliant. I walked in just to check out what the new space was about since they just established themselves as a 'craft collective' and I was pleasantly suprised at the variety and quality of their stuff. Everything is handmade - their wooden pieces and their handloom stuff. They have everything from Indian wooden craft doorknobs to lampstand/shades to kids toys. Check them out if you want to support Indian crafts and if you are decking your home with ethnic decor.

Tradition preserved!!! I came across this shop through Instagram and wanted to buy a gift for my wife on her Valentine's Day and so stepped in and found a lot of collectibles which we would have come across in our childhood. Especially wooden toys that triggered my childhood memories. Collections are good and the shop has a good ambience. Mr. Sivaraj was there to guide me throughout my shopping experience to brief about things and was so friendly. Also had a chance to speak to Mr. Karthik (Proprietor) and he was so polite and patient to hear the voice of a customer. Thank you Varnam Team 🙂

The shop is a little oasis of brilliant craftsmanship in Chennai. The toys are all beautifully made and painted with a wide array of creative options. The staff was helpful and friendly. Very reasonably priced as well.

Varnam! As colorful as the name suggests, Varnam is a store filled with surprises. Fabulous ones. Founder and designer Karthik Vaidynathan is very personable and I ended up with many more purchases than I intended. So many interesting innovative products from the artisans of Chennapatna appeals to the broader senses. I picked up a few toys for neighborhood kids and darling Christmas ornaments for friends, enchanting flowers created from dry weeds and a gorgeous dhuri. Do visit this unique store and support the artisans of Chennapatna and the budding entrepreneur.

A much-loved Bangalore brand comes to Chennai. A great place to shop for gifts. You won't walk out empty handed from here. Varnam's founder's passion for reviving the Channapatna craft and designing new products to suit modern lifestyles is visible in every original design. From the jewellery to the home section - (my favourite are the pasta / noodle jars), the store has a happy vibe, inside and out. Don't miss the store front with the signature bathtub that's been upcycled into a lily pond.

It’s one of a kind gift shop for purchasing genuine Handcrafted items from Channapatna . It also showcases a few other crafts of India that includes sarees, shirts, Jewellary , etc. A must visit when in Chennai.

I’ve been an ardent follower of ‘Varnam craft collective’ for years and was absolutely thrilled when I heard that they are opening a store here in Chennai! What a charming store! Loved all the products and especially liked the way it was all displayed! We had a nice chat with Karthik the owner and got to understand the story behind the making of the pieces on display at the store. It’s so wonderful that they work so closely with the Channapatna artisan community and help preserve this beautiful craft.
