We visited Murcia Cathedral at the weekend, our first visit to the city. There is plenty of parking and the underground car park is about 5 minutes walk from the cathedral. The building is magnificent and is covered in wonderful medieval stonework. It is a mix of styles with the tower being a far newer eighteenth century baroque construction and the main building is fourteenth century gothic. The interior is vast and has the usual mix of wonderful carvings with very gaudy decoration in red and gold. We didn't spend as long as we'd have liked inside as it was a Sunday and we didn't want to intrude but it is certainly somewhere we'll return to.

Amazing cathedral in Murcia. It has been built in 1394. While the facade is in a baroque and gothic style, inside it is more of a renaissance style. We had a peek inside the cathedral, and it was equally beautiful as outside. On the square where the cathedral is located, for some reason you could find these enormous fake flowers which was a great scene!

Pleasant stroll and very detailed architecture. However food in Murcia I think may be catered to certain demographic that has no taste buds because the food in 80% of places I've tried is way below par. Not impressed. I've had great Spanish food in the past but so far not in Murcia or Alicante. It may be because I've been taken around by non Spanish people and perhaps I'll need a Spanish guide next time.

Tolles Bauwerk aus dem 14. Jhrd. Wir konnten leider nicht ins Innere. Die Plaza direkt an der Kathedrale ist allemal ein Besuch wert.

Very nice cathedral, probably the most interesting building to see. The entrance is free. However, there are certain things that cost, such as the museum entrance.

Beautiful place to visit, right in the heart of Murcia! See the old buildings, have a look around the centre, plenty of shops, cafes and sights to see. Suggest parking in the underground safe and manned 24 hrs.

Absolutely amazing cathedral. If you want to visit the tower you need to pay. The entrance to the cathedral is free. Admire the architecture and many altars.

Auld Church that makes ye wonder how they built them and what it would cost to replicate. There was a bloke in flying a drone aboot which was interesting.

  • 5/5 Colin G. 2 years ago on Google
Beautiful baroque architecture but was very dark inside and not all the altars were accessible. The tower is worth going up for the view but it is a really tough climb.

This beautiful 14th century Catholic cathedral has a interesting history (as it used to be the great mosque of Mursiya). It's worth taking a (guided-)tour through this breathtaking spectacle. Besides, with a guided tour one can enter the tower and enjoy phenomenal views over the inner city!

Very beautiful indeed! The statues have intricate carving with immense detail. The side has several restaurants and the front has a large courtyard with more restaurants.

It's well worth a visit. The cathedral is breathtakingly beautiful, stunning, and an experience you will never forget. I am going back to visit the cathedral again because one visit isn't enough. There is so much to see. You can't go to Murcia and not visit the Cathedral.

Built between 1394-1465. The heart and the entrails of the king Alfonso X the Wise are buried under the main altar. The bell tower stands 300+ feet tall - the tallest in Spain. Look for the Chapel of the Apes (the Velez Chapel) - a great example of Flaming Gothic style. On the outside there is a huge stone chain that runs along the chapel: I had only seen another example of this (although a belt rather than chain) in one of Portuguese convents.

Beautiful cathedral. Well worth visiting this huge building which is the centre piece of Murcia city. Stunning architecture. Inside there are several small chapels all the way round the walls. And a grand alter at the front. We had the pleasure of seeing a service the week before Easter. The building is awe inspiring.

One of the most attractive cathedras in Spain and a real gem of Murcia. Take time as you need around one hour to make an audio tour and it is well worth it. At certain times it is possible to make a tour of the church bell tower which offers spectacular views of th old part of the city.

Cathedral was incredible, you can see many styles but seems to us it was mainly gothic and full of sculptures. The bell tower is 90 mts high.

Highly disappointed this time. I have visited often in the past to light a candle, pray and have left a donation. I wanted to pray for my father that has just passed and was refused entry as they now charge to enter. The lady told me I had to return in the evening. I was unable to this. You should never be charged to enter a religious place in order to pray. This is my first experience of being asked to pay to enter a religious building in Spain. Canterbury cathedral will even let you in to pray! The building itself is amazing!

(Translated by Google) It is the most beautiful baroque portal of the European cathedrals. It is fantastic, great and great. It has three facades, Baroque, Gothic and Renaissance, in the heart of its city and overlooks three squares and several streets. It is the only cathedral in which everyone is allowed to enter for free, as are almost all the museums and visits of interest in the generous city of Murcia. Inside it is equally wonderful and magnificent, its majestic columns, the organ, the choir, the side chapels, especially the Velez chapel is spectacular, the altar, and endless other things. The imagery in this land, very good with a great tradition, not only from Salzillo, but also from the schools that existed before and after him, Nicolás de Busi, Roque López, and there continue to be great sculptors, which I will not name because they are a few and I don't want to leave anyone. Murcia Cathedral is the great unknown wonder.
