Valle de Oro National Wildlife Refuge, has much to offer other than hiking and exploring the Bosque. They have picture contest, TAAS star parties are invited here. The beauty of the land is breath taking, many different species of birds, they have bird houses spread out within the bosque and on the ranch land. Hawks, to the geese, ants to the dragonfly even the camel cricket have a home here. Today the balloons adorn the Albuquerque skies over this beautiful valley. The sun rise is amazing here, One road leads you to I-25, and the other to Rio Bravo, you can also go into the bosque, but stay on trails, rattle snakes, porky pine, coyotes and I hear the badger also is welcomed here. It truly is a beautiful place. This place opens one hour before sun rise and closes one hour after sunset. If the gate is closed drive up and if the sensor says it's time the gate will open for you. check with their office about bringing in your motorized wheelchairs. and you may drive through here as well until you reach the bosque opening, that is closed to all vehicles. telescopes are welcomed. as you walk though the bosque, one side is the lush land and all its beauty and the other side is the awesome bosque, there is nothing better than taking a walk and viewing both at the same time.

Stopped by to check it out and wander around with our dog. The visitor center and bathrooms are great. In the winter it is not so scenic but we are looking forward to visiting in the migration season for birdsβ€”just a few cranes and a bunch of Canadian Geese. Nice to have a refuge close to Albuquerque.

Such a beautiful place. Love how intentional they are from the murals throughout including this beautiful one by Haley Greenfeather English to even having a library with books by indigenous authors. Can’t wait to continue to visit as the native habits and ecosystems continue to thrive.

Wonderful spot, free entry, to walk or jog or hike, or even bird watch. I saw a beautiful western meadowlark! Returned to the new facility/ visitor center on 8/27/22- spectacular!! Open and a beautifully done welcome center. Friendly employees, moderate walk(2.6 miles to Bosque and back), paved or well marked. Open for walks or especially nice paved bike trails 365 days a year!!

What a wonderful space! I didn't even check out the visitor center inside since I didn't think to bring a lock for my bike. I did ride the Bosque Loop trail and it was gorgeous! Easy enough to bring the kiddos, but definitely interesting enough for adults! Beautiful land dotted with lovely art, right on the south edge of town, totally accessible by bicycle! I rode up from the Bosque multi use path on a whim last Saturday and just couldn't stop snapping pics! Do yourself a favor and stop by, you won't regret it! I'll be back and next time I'll bring a lock 😊

Valle de Oro is a diamond in the rough. The visitor's center is beautiful and convenient. The newly opened Bosque Trail is a beautiful trail that leads west to the bosque and clear ditch. This is the perfect place to take the dog for a walk. Looking forward to this open space improving and fulfilling its mission.

It's nice to see a preservation project happening. Construction is still in progress but it is a nice place to walk. The visitors center, although not open, looks amazing from outside. I look forward to continuing visits here.

This place is a work in progress as the develop the infrastructure and rebuild the wild areas. It will be a gem in a few years, but it's not bad now as it has revealed many species rare to the area. Closest population of porcupines to my house.

Just went to here today, and I am so impressed! We didn't make it past the visitor's center, it was so fun my kids wanted to stay the whole hour we had to look around. They have interactive educational exhibits, and I took many pictures of information to save for when I pick plants for my yard. The staff were friendly and helpful as well. We will definitely be back to walk the refuge!

Visitor center is beautiful with clean bathrooms. Nice gift shop and event space. Seems like a good spot for bird watching. We saw several smaller birds and lots of grasshoppers/ other critters in the pond near the visitor center.

This place is stunning if you are willing to look. At first my husband and I saw nothing, were super disappointed and ready to leave. Then a jack rabbit (like HUGE bunny) rustle around and took off. 5 minutes later we come within 100 feet of a coyote who is staring at a butterfly in the brush. Just truly beautiful

Used to be a great property with green fields, birds, water, and surrounding bosque covering 400+ acres. Not sure what is going on with it now, or since it was purchased by the USFS. Since becoming a national wildlife refuge the irrigation has stopped and the place looks like a barren desert with a big concrete visitor center. Is this what was intended? When will we see this amazing piece of land green again? Disappointed.

What a disgrace it used to be fields of green that held huge flocks of snow geese, sandhill cranes lots of pheasant and many other varieties of biirds. Now it just a dried out husk of land. Since the Feds took over you can count the birds there on one hand. What a governmentental mess up.

Beautiful facilities with friendly staff. Trails all around the building and a great deck for bird watching. They have an awesome kids zone and a cute gift shop. Plenty of shade to come and enjoy a picnic and informative postings all around to help educate us. Short walk to bosque.

TRAVELERS: I am really thankful to have stopped here and learn about one of the newest additions to the urban space people call home. I highly suggest this gem to anyone who has not had the chance to visit this beautiful space next to the Rio Grande. Nature Store hours in the Refuge are from 10-4 Tuesday-Saturday. There are wonderful events open for all, including Sip and paint(remember to register via email) and also a chance to meet some of the most caring humans yhat have worked endless hours to provide a little part of mother Earth. Thank you for amazing and clean facilities that also provide DRINKING water next to the restrooms. Take the time to go around the little path before you take the trails as there are very cool signs with information about the conservancy program and how we can take part in our communities to also help the environment. The art is by local female artists and tell the stories of love and dedication for our Environment.

Beautiful facility and really great staff. We have been loving Nature Tots and look forward to future events! Also great rainy day activities. Custom bosque building blocks that our little one loves!

Went for an event about making your yard into a wildlife and pollinator habitat, then walked down to the Bosque while Sandhill cranes flew in V formation overhead.

😠 This was the worst experience I've went through at a park. It's dirty, and disgusting and there's trash everywhere. I've found used needles, broken glass, and people using drugs. It's definitely an unsafe environment, for both children n adults. My grandson was playing for just a minute and his han...
