I am tempted to give it fewer stars because OUCH was it expensive!! They warn you about the prices for the trout before you go fishing, but we ended up paying $44 to get in (that's for 2 adults and 2 kids) and $80 (yes $80!!) for the trout! We couldn't even catch any bass because the ponds were so overloaded with lily pads that we couldn't cast without getting stuck on something. We lost a few jigs and broke a few lines (adding to the cost of a few hours of fishing!). I get that people from the city need to escape, and it is REALLY pretty there, but $124 for 4 hours of fishing?! PASS!!!

I took my kids to opening day, April 6, 2019, at Shady Lakes. I had no idea; good thing we didn't try to get there sooner. First time fishing since I was a teen, my kids first time EVER! We had a great time! In an hour, my son caught three trout and my daughter caught one. It was about $20 for the two of them to fish and $35 to keep the fish they caught. Not bad considering it took to hours out of our day. I learned how to filet fish and everything. More importantly, I learned I don't like to catch, filet and eat trout! HAHA! Next time, we'll sign up for the catch & release area. LOL! Shady Lakes was very nice when we went. I'm sorry I don't have more pics to post of the site, but my kids are the center of the attention. Love them! Thanks for reading! Hope you enjoy Shady Lakes as we did!

Really disappointed!! we have always loved the fishing here when we went today their was a a lot of weeds everywhere did not get one bite in the bass ponds. Seems like the new owners don't care about keeping it up.... so sad this use to be one of the best for bass fishing and for great atmosphere has declined tremendously.

Very rude old lady who works there. Screaming at me for no reason. Was trying to leave. I will never come here again. Parking sucks. Prices suck. Employees suck. Too much people in one pond and too much Lilly pads.

Such an amazing place. This is my favorite place to go, just to be with nature. I don't go here to fish, personally but that is the idea behind this lovely Lily pond. There's usually a lot of fishers.

Not bad for 5 hours fishing JL Howard. Count 15. I even caught 4 myself. Won't go hungry this winter. For the record 15 Trout ate heavy. Everyone is so nice. The smallest was 10 inches. Jamie and Jan say thank you.

Shady Lakes is still owned by the same family as the past 50+years but is for sale. The past few weeks Shady Lakes has done a lot of much needed maintenance on the property including clearing the paths around the ponds, the water levels are up again and the algae is under control. The lilies in the catch and release ponds will soon be thinned out as well. Parking can be a little tight but that is because everyone seems to think they need 3 to 4 feet space between the car they park next to. Shady Lakes is a great place to spend the day or even a couple hours. It is privately owned so there is a fee but it is worth it just remember to check in at the stand before you wonder off to do your thing.
