Been coming to Geckos for years now. I live about 1/2 mile away and need to get here more. Definitely underrated when it comes to their menu. Love the hummus plate as well. Great staff and service as well.

In my opinion it’s a Dive bar for the local apartments dark and gloomy almost depressing . Couple tvs playing random stuff bar tender talked too much he thought he was funny throwing trash at people maybe regulars but not cool He gave it a even more dull experience.. cheap beer 5.95 a pint was the minor plus .academy location

Staff was nice and it is very much a local neighborhood bar. Decor is outdated. Older crowd and mellow atmosphere on our visit. We didn't see anyone eating, just having drinks.

Gecko’s is an Americana sports bar with two locations in Albuquerque, located in Nob Hill and the NE Heights (called “Gecko’s Academy”). The Academy location has booth seating, as well as high tops, tables, and at the bar. There’s also a patio at the front of the restaurant facing Academy. There are lots of TVs above the bar with varied sports playing. The menu wasn’t very extensive and focused on fried foods and sandwiches, as most bars do. The soups du jour were a pozole and then a green chile stew. We ordered the green chile cheese fries as an appetizer. They weren’t hot spice-level wise, but had a nice flavor with the cream sauce and green chile without being a salt bomb. We both ordered a BLT sandwich. The BLT comes with an additional slice of toast in the middle of the sandwich, which made it hard to eat because it made the sandwich so thick, so I removed it. We both agreed the BLT was quite dry between the toasted bread and the extra-crispy bacon. If I were to get it again, I’d ask for the extra bread to be removed, extra mayo, and the bacon not as crispy. Unfortunately I didn’t try the fries that came with the meal because I had filled up on the appetizer. The service was friendly. If you’re looking for a chill Americana sports bar, this might fit the bill if you aren’t looking for a varied menu or exceptional cuisine.

Food was good with reasonable prices. Drinks were good and not too expensive. The service was quick and the wait person was super friendly and knowledgeable . It was too dark inside for me though and dull. I prefer more modern and well lit places. Ok place.

Server was very inexperienced but very very kind and apologetic. That’s the only nice thing that happened. The bartender was very loudly rude to our server and insisted on asking us all for our IDs before we even sat down-party of 3. He then came back and asked for my friends ID again but while she was in the bathroom so we sat there awkwardly waiting for her to get back. The music ranged from old country to loud EDM in 5 min-very obviously controlled by the arrogant bartender per him singing loudly. The food was absolutely the worst food I’ve ever had and took 45min even though there were only 2 other parties here. The fries were burnt to the point that my entire table thought they were sweet potato fries. The Au Jus for the French Dip Sammy was as salty as soy sauce. Rueben had no cheese. Was shivering cold the entire time we were here. JESUS even the condiments were and watery as piss. And to top it all off the toilet also didn’t flush. Over all, below subpar. No wonder there was only 2 other people in here. In other words, don’t come for the food. Drinks were at least drinkable. You can tell they cut corners in cost at every chance they had. Total bill was $92. Thats just crazy.

We stopped in driving through to CO with our dogs and they allow them on the patio. We were greeted warmly. Tapas were very good and the service was great.

Gecko's is a local restaurant that feels like a comfortable Mom and Pop bar. There's an extensive menu, lots of drink options, and the atmosphere is fun with lots of great 80s and 90s music playing in the background. Try their Gecko option, which is a phenomenal BLT with smoked turkey and green chile added.

Always a good time. Staff is great. Some times under staffed during busy times but if you expect a wait it is worth it. Super friendly all around.

Honestly I’d given up on this place, until Tina served my wife and myself. We will definitely be coming back. Only on Tina’s working days. Tina was an amazing server and hostess. She was on top of our orders and she got us everything we asked for in a timely manner and she talked to us and socialized. Tina was amazing.

Don't think the staff could have been less enthused to have customers. Several games were on TV, but none were heard on the speakers. Beer wasn't very cold, room temperature almost and the food was overpriced for what you get.

A great neighborhood bar. Haven't been here in 10 years. I've had the cheeseburger and fries. Very delicious fast and friendly service. On another occasion I've had the BLT and fries. Also very good.

I like Geckos. I used to come here about ten years ago and just started to come back occasionally. The place is still as I remember, for the most part quiet, the waitresses are friendly, and the drinks are always good.

Great place! Nice variety in beers and drinks, and the staff are all very helpful and friendly. Very comfortable place to relax and share a drink.

The service at this place is incredible. We were sitting on the patio bc we brought our dog. It started raining and the waitresses quickly helped get our food, selves, and dog inside. We had their wings and Buffalo Chicken sandwich. Food was pretty good and their happy hour deal is well worth a visit.

Geckos on Academy is still one of my favorite casual neighborhood places for a stiff drink after work. with a nice size patio on the south side, I can sit there in the early evening and get a little bit of sun and fresh air with my vodka and soda. I don’t smoke, but I certainly sympathize with people who like to have a cigarette with their alcoholic beverage and it’s unfortunate that they’ve eliminated any smoking patio. The patio doesn’t really have any distinct separate areas so I can understand why (in one sense) but they could have easily add a wall out from the front door and create two different patios. At a cost of probably only a few thousand dollars. Rumor has it from the clientele that the owner is just too cheap to do that. (Sometimes a small business owner is SO cost conscious that he shoots himself in the foot and it ends up costing him the business… in the end.) Inside, you can see that they aren’t too keen on updating - which is probably a plus for some patrons; but inevitably mayblead to the downfall of the bar. As they say “if you’re not busy being born you’re busy dying” inevitably, with small businesses, people expect things to be fresh and clean, and updated occasionally. so aside from my criticisms which are really meant to be suggestions for the longevity of the institution. I still enjoy a late afternoon drink at Geckos, and I do hope that he brings it into the 21st-century so I can continue to enjoy it for years to come… ;-)
