This gym is by far one of my favorites in all the gyms I have visited around the world. Routes here are very well set regardless of route setter. Everything flows smoothly and can be incredibly challenging. This gym features something for everyone, lead walls, large bouldering areas, auto belays and plenty of top ropes as well. Difficulty is very well spread out so there is something for every level of climber in every part of the gym. With COVID, the gym has great safety precautions. Staff is incredible, very knowledgeable, professional, personable and helpful in all aspects. Highly recommended for everyone and a must visit for people passing through!

They honor our Second Amendment rights! (five stars already) I brought my Girl Scout troop here today. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The girls had a blast. The manager was super accommodating for our large group for which we are grateful. The equipment isn't brand new, but it's in excellent condition. There is a wide variety of courses to challenge you in whatever you need challenging. The cushions, floors, bathrooms, etc are clean. The parking is easy. I totally recommend this place for all your climbing needs. They also have a specialty store in the front if you need stuff.

Large climbing gym with a variety of classes and workout areas. I've always had a positive experience with employees and other climbers.

A little pricey for a day pass, pretty crowded as would be expected on a weekday evening. Plenty of bouldering and top rope options, not as much lead climbing options. Definitely the best gym in Albuquerque. Mats were soft and there were plenty of storage cubbies and lockers to store belongings while climbing.

Checked into my hotel early so I figured I’d do a little climbing. Different grading system than the circuit one my home gym uses. Some routes are confusing to figure out where they go if you’re not used to the gym. Overall, a great gym with huge walls & a solid bouldering area where I stayed my whole visit. Allison checked me in & was warm & friendly! Routes had lots of overhangs & a good variety for all skill levels. Everyone was safe & supportive. Only gripe I have is the lack of slab routes in the bouldering area, which are my niche.

We love visiting rock gyms in other states, and this one is definitely our favorite. Friendly staff, awesome route setting. We will definitely stop here again next time we’re passing through Albuquerque!

What a great climbing gym. I was passing through on my way to Red Rocks, and stopped in for a workout. Great setting, lots of bouldering and auto belays (for those of us climbing solo), but also lots of great lead routes. I really liked that they separate the warm-up area/beginner area from the lead climbing area. And the workout space is great too!

Had a great time here! Experienced climber visiting from out of town - everyone was so nice and friendly. Great top rope, auto belay, leading and bouldering. One of the best climbing gyms I’ve ever been to!

One of my favorite places to be. The climbs are often changing, so there is great variety, and don't get me started on the staff! They are knowledgeable and just awesome people. Seriously, this is the place to be.

I’ve been a member of Stone Age for about 5 years. Stone Age is a family establishment where children run around unattended (for better or worse), there are children’s parties on weekend, children’s rock climbing classes during the week, etc. Our family has relied on Stone Age as a place to relax, have fun, and enjoy the same activities. Up until a few days ago there was a full time white male employee (in charge of safety and maintenance) that has a violent criminal record. When an Asian female employee brought up this violent history to the attention of the owner (Brian) she was ignored, silenced, and shamed. Days later it came to my attention that not only did this man have a violent criminal background but also a current restraining order against him INCLUDING sexual abuse of a minor. I have a small child that climbs at Stone Age. She has spent time with that male employee! Let me be clear. This is not ok and I am exercising a tremendous amount of restraint as I write this. I have no words. Except these. Brian, I don’t know you but your actions/inactions went against every basic consideration of safety and concern for employees, members, and the climbing community overall. Either commit to growing and learning how to be a more responsible business owner (and better example to younger climbers), or pass the torch to someone that understands the job.

What I love about this gym the most is the route setting, and the number and variety of auto belay options for when you just can't find a partner. Some renowned setters put up quite thoughtful and challenging lines. The monthly membership fees are extremely reasonable, and include yoga as well as other group fitness classes geared towards climbers for cross training. The kid area is separate from the main walls, which is also nice. I'm not super into bouldering, so I can't speak to that much, except to say there are lots of routes. There are also 3 nice treadmills, free weights, and another cardio/ gym equipment. A second location is coming soon, which will hopefully help with my one complaint... super crowded in the evenings and on weekends. Great staff, nice retail shop work great, guidebooks, snacks. Well worth the cost.

Owner should seriously consider paying adults a priority over infants and non wage earning children. It's an extremely depressing gym to workout in as it feels like McDonalds play area with all of the children running around.

Do not come here. The manager can not help. They will not let you climb even with a medical condition. The front desk staff is rude.

I used to climb here pretty obsessively but I moved away from the area. I haven’t been back in 3 years (or climbed much during that time). Risa went above and beyond to help my buddy and I get back in the saddle (we were safely lead climbing again within the 2 hours we were there). I can’t say enough good things about her or this place. Plus the routes were just as awesome as I remember. Keep up the good work!

What an awesome climbing gym.I decided to drop in on my road trip to California since the gym was only blocks away from the Airbnb we decided to stay at. I went in at around 5 p.m. and it was pretty crowded with a good amount of adults and kids. staff members are very nice gave me a little orientation before I was let loose to go Boulder. the gym recently just had a competition so they were a lot of competition style boulders which was so much fun. Facility is very nice and very clean, I really enjoyed visiting. Day pass was around $19 will definitely come back here if I'm ever in the area.

I have gone twice now. Once with a friend and once alone and the staff has always been amazingly friendly and helpful. I'm a first time climber and especially going alone was extremely daunting, but I never felt talked down to or belittled for being new. It is like a community of people all trying to solve the wall problems together with no pressure on how you get there or when. I even expressed my fear with one of the employees when getting some chalk to help me and he said, "Remember to breathe and take your time. You are completely capable and I know you will crush this." That was just what I needed to hear. What incredible staff!!

Huge, with lots of bouldering, auto belays, top-roping, and lead climbing. Clean place, great staff, and great hours. Just watch out for the boatloads of noisy kids in the summer months.

So expensive! Yes it's a nice place, but not for the average person. Traveling for work and was looking to climb for an hour. They have no options, 20$ per day no matter what is the cheapest. Catering to the elite and wealthy only here.

First time here today after visiting at the old location 6 years ago. Great and helpful staff, awesome routes for bouldering and auto belay. Very reasonably priced and great selection of equipment at the store. I would recommend this gym to anyone looking for a new place to call home or just to give it a try.

I’ve been here 2x now, my boyfriend and I came here and with entrance plus gear and shoes we ended up paying around $50. I would sign up for their emails because they send out deals once in a while. I honestly had a lot of fun here, it’s a great arm and grip workout. We aren’t really pros so we just stayed in the smaller room, nice for a date 👍🏼 the only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that it a bit over priced just to climb some walls, my college just charges 1$ granted they only have 3 walls.

Cool place, but since they have a monopoly on the rock-climbing scene in the area they dictate the prices and $27 can impact a lot, so I recommend if you go frequently, invest in the subscription plans they have.

My family and I had a enjoyable experience during our visit here! It was a recommendation by my daughter whom lives in the area to come here in the first place. Stone Age Climbing Gym is certainly a family fun place for all skilled levels of climbers. My teenage daughter and tween son had a tremendous time climbing up, down, side to side, diagonal and all around this spacious place! I'm happy that they both enjoyed their experiences while here!

Every visit is great! The staff are super nice (and knowledgeable). There are plenty of options for climbers of all different levels. The gym, rock climbing area, and everything else is very well maintained and clean. Enjoy!

Great climbing gym, top rope and auto-belay are really nice, bouldering is pretty good (better at North location), and the facility is always a cool temperature and appears really clean. The only caveat for me are the weekend hours - why does the gym close at 6 on Sunday? A lot of people use Sunday as their day to get a workout in, and a few extra hours on that day would be great.

Love this place. It has plenty of auto belay routes and two great bouldering areas. Everyone who works there is friendly and super helpful. I just got into climbing earlier this year and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Highly recommended.

I only did the bouldering, not the roped climbing. Good range of climbs, lots of overhangs though. Staff were all very friendly

Stone Age is an excellent, world-class climbing gym. Whether you are into bouldering, top-rope, lead climbing, or autobelays, they've got you covered. Their sports shop is great too, has seriously competitive prices, and they carry equipment for SRT as well as climbing. Our entire family has a membership here and we climb once or twice a week when we're not climbing outdoors. We actually go to their north location more often because it's closer to us, but the mid-town location is quite a bit bigger and the variety is a lot fun.

Great gym and very friendly staff but some very rude members. Be careful taking beginner climbers here, they will get the wrong impression about the climbing community.

  • 5/5 Joshua D. 3 years ago on Google
The place is a lot of fun. Its a great way to get to know you're own limitations physically and mentally, then build yourself up to those limits and surpass them. The community is very friendly and open minded, and willing to help out.

Great routes, facility is clean and modern. Down side is that there are too many little kids there for my taste . They really should have some days or times exclusive for adults. For 70 dollars a month they should cater to adults a bit more and get away from the chuckee cheese vibe. Climbing is great though when you can focus on a route without the kids taking over your space.
