If you are familiar with the lore of the Monte Carlo steakhouse, you probably don't need my review. It's a hole in the wall locale, where you walk through the liquor store to get to the restaurant. Originally made popular for their burger, they have become very well known for their steaks. The atmosphere is what one should expect for such a hole in the wall location. They do not split checks and you should expect to wait 40 minutes during an average night. They do not take reservations. If you're expecting a black tie steakhouse, you're in the wrong place. Make no mistake, you're here for the food. All said, the food was delicious, the atmosphere was as expected and the owner spent some time chatting with us, which is always nice.

12/2021: Neighborhood gem, older established restaurant, yet clean. Great attentive service & food. Restaurant was packed but got seating immediately; clean bathrooms. Rated 4 stars because the restaurant is dark for me. Appetizer was hot mozzarella sticks. Ordered grilled chicken that comes with either baked potato or fries, salad; & Monte Carlo Burger with green chile and cheese. All were delicious and filling. Happy eating!

Not one to complain about a restaurant, however this experience was quite awful. Sat next to the open cooking area and non-stop heard the cooks talking trash about customers as well as purposely messing up orders. The cooks also talked about not being able to cook a medium steak- but would only be able to do rare or well done. The food came out cold despite waiting 45 minutes and some change for it to come out. They would only discount one appetizer and not the meal they gave us. Overall a bad experience- really came here wanting to try it and enjoy it but was left super disappointed and hungry due to the bad food. Maybe another day would be better. Not sure.

My grandson and I are on a mission to find the best steakhouse in Albuquerque. The Monte Carlo has a lot of strong word of mouth recommendations, along with Guy Fiery's endorsement. My grandson ordered his steak med well and they prepared it well done. His words were "grandpa this is chewy and has no pink in the middle." He also shared that "the fries are burned and cold and no seasoning." My meal was no better. My steak was grisly and chewy with little seasoning. The toast was cold and somewhat stale. Overall, he and I give it an average score of 2.5. Ambiance was what had been described and was as expected. The service was great and attentive. It was the first time for the both of us and we are willing to give it another try. Stay tuned. -Gaga & Adam's List Reviews

Wow! Didn’t expect much driving through the neighborhood we did to get there but then hit civilization and there it was. My wife found this because I asked for steak for dinner. Got there and realized it was a liquor store, still not excited. Got inside to find a45 minute wait so stopped for a beer at the bar where we met two locals. One excitedly told us the prime rib just got done and wished he held out but he said his New York strip was still great, no other steaks taste as good as they did here. It was set, I’m getting Prime Rib!! We got the baked potatoes, salads and rice pilaf and Order of shrimp cocktail. Cocktail sauce was delicious with Little kick! The prime rib came out a perfect rare and was spot on for taste. Great horseradish to go with it or au jus if you like. For dessert, we recommend the hot apple pie à la mode. You can’t go wrong with this little hidden gem!

Fun very busy little eclectic place it was cool that we got set under the Guy Fieri posters Food was good. We tried the Monte Carlo Burger the chicken strips and the steak fingers ( the steak fingers would have been out of this world with some country gravy) and for the appetizer we had fried mushrooms (kinda a small portion)

I have not had a bad burger yet from this spot. The food is always fresh and it always hit right. I think this place has one of the top three burgers in Albuquerque. They are definitely one of my favorite. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. It does get busy fast and tables are somewhat limited. Great burger joint! 🍔🍔🍔🍔🍔

Always a solid choice. Old school restaurant with a liquor store in front. Prime Rib Thur-Sat, but no bad choices. Lunch the the grilled ham and cheese w/ green chile, delicious. Bartenders, Adam and Mike, are great along with all the servers.

My husband and I have been going here for years for date nights. Love the old school feel and the food is the epitome of comfort. Best steak in ABQ

Fantastic green chile cheeseburger. Great, late 60s decor (Think dive bar but in a good way), as it hasn't been remodeled since it opened. Lots of pictures of Elvis on the wall, and the furniture added to the retro vibe.

The owner, George, was so personable. Spoke to him in the liquor store and he made it a point to find his at dinner and say goodbye. Food was sooooo good so be ready for a little wait. Prime rib sells out fast on Thursday, Friday, Saturday early but my ribeye was awesome. Creamiest baked potatoes.

Great old classic restaurant/bar that has the best steaks and burgers. The atmosphere is nostalgic and has so much history that it will bring you back to the good old days. Steaks are very inexpensive and are among some of the best throughout the country. Staff is always very friendly and courteous. Highly recommend if you are either here from out of town or locally to try this great restaurant.

An Albuquerque staple! Really, a top-notch place to grab a burger, onion rings, and a beer! The steaks are great. Quite environment, package liquor, and not nearly as expensive as other steak houses. A best bet

This is a great steakhouse. The food is outstanding and the atmosphere of the restaurant is really a lot of fun, with decorations of Elvis and Marylin Monroe it makes you feel like you are in a Tarantino movie. There was a bit of a wait, but it's really worth it. The service was friendly and attentive! Probably the best steakhouse in Albuquerque.

Best Steak I have had in years. The 4estaurant is in an old gas station. But don't let that put you off. The food is fantastic. You may have to wait in line for a table. We had a 20 minute wait. But it was worth it. Not too expensive either. Highly recommend

Stopped in for lunch. Grab any available table. Ordered Fried Mozzarella and Fried Mushrooms as an appetizer. Disappointed with these since they came out luke warm to cold. Salad was average, left a lot to be desired. I ordered the Porter house and the wife had the Rib Eye. Both cooked to perfection as ordered. Baked potato was also perfect. Plan on going back, just maybe skipping appetizers next time.

Such a great feel to this place. It's one of the last of its kind. Good, home cooking! Great prices. Friendly service. Clean establishment. Busy but not crowded. This restaurant is very welcoming. We were so into the quality time we spent here that I didn't even remember to snap any pics. We shared an order of the onion rings, my husband had the steak (perfection), baked potato, and a salad. I had the chicken sandwich with green chile (moist & delicious) & fries. Our little girl had their grilled cheese and fries. 10/10 we highly recommend.

We absolutely love this place! Been regular customers since 1995! The steaks are top notch and the service is excellent!! They treat us regulars like family! The old school atmosphere makes dining out relaxing 😌 Take out makes it convenient 👌 I pray they remain here for our family to enjoy in the future 🙏 😀

Great after work lunch spot for a burger, onion rings, and beer. And you can score a nice bottle of bourbon afterward at the liquor store! Thank you Monte Carlo

This restaurant is good! The casual atmosphere brings you back quite a few decades, which is fun. A loud, peaceful crowd having a good time is nice to see! My steak was good but cooked medium instead of MR. The iceberg salad was good, especially the creamy zesty Greek dressing. The apple pie is cobbler like and good! My primary complaint was the lighting. Previous reviews said it was too dark. I found the lighting to be like bright spotlights that were too glaring and gave me a bit of a headache. I'm glad we tried it, but I won't rush back.

We went on one of their busiest night and waited an hour for our food. 44 minutes into our wait, we were told that they only had 3 orders of prime rib left (we had ordered 4). We ordered a steak med rare in place of 1 of the prime ribs. The prime we did get looked and tasted like it had been boiled. It was so rubbery and gross. The steak came out well done. It used to be one of my favorite places, we won't return.

Stopped in here for dinner. It was pretty busy. Our waitress was lovely and friendly. My steak was great. I ordered it Medium-Rare and it was perfect. Their drinks were also really good. Had a nice time and was good value for the price. We will definitely visit again.
